The Yummy! Corned Beef, pastrami, cheese, mustard on fresh rye...
    Harel M.

We continue to absolutely love Burt's. The family is always warm and welcoming, everything is just perfect, great smooth and not too salty lox, fresh breads daily, they pile the meat up high and if you are lucky, you may get some free samples, while you wait :) Just a great, NYC deli in the North Suburbs and the one of my overall top places in the region. Absolute must have for us every few weeks. Wishing you many more years of success!

Went in hungry for a pastrami sandwich. The man who owns the establishment was the one taking orders. I was greeted as I walked in, standing in line he was making conversations with the customer's. The place is small also having a few tables. Overall the sandwich was wonderful!!! I went back and just as good as the 1st time! Full of fresh meat and very tasty, not dried at all! This place has history as it's been there for many years. Wish I knew about it sooner!! Highly recommend!

Such a fan of Burt's Deli! This local sandwich spot offers sandwiches by the pound, in addition to various sides and soups. We came here for lunch, and we ordered: +The Yummy - packed to the gills with corned beef, pastrami, cheese, mustard, and horseradish on rye - I requested extra horseradish, since I like it spicy and saucy +a side of cole slaw +a side of potato salad +a side of macaroni salad The sandwich was so delicious - meaty and spicy, this could actually feed two people, or provide an extra meal. I loved how each slice was thin and layered perfectly! All the sides were really yummy and well-made - everything was creamy, seasoned perfectly, and such great complements to the sandwich. Run by Mr. Ralph (he also has been working at Burt's since he was a kid!), he really makes everyone feel so welcome - he has a great sense of humor, and when he has a minute or two before the next set of patrons come in, he goes around and makes conservation with the diners and checks in to see if everything is okay. There's only a handful of seating inside, so it's first-come, first-serve; you go up at the counter and put in your order, then pay over at the register. Here, you can add other items, such as sides, chips, and/or drinks. Located in the GreenTree Plaza, there's ample parking. +ask for Mr. Ralph! +The Yummy! +delicious sides +limited seating +located in the GreenTree Plaza +ample parking

I love this authentic deli! There is a little seating area inside. At least 5 or 6 booths. He has delicious salads potato coleslaw etc. it closes at 2;30 . It's owned by Burt He is friendly and cracks jokes numerous . He gave a good portion of meat and pickles . My Corned beef was so perfect My daughter's turkey was delicious too . It has a parking lot so it's easy to park. Not sure if there used to be a public restroom. He has some bakery items and chips . So good

What a gem!! small Jewish deli in a strip mall, I'm jealous, libertyville lucky to have a deli like Burt's!! Hands down the best. They have been serving amazing corned beef and pastrami sandwiches since 1975 when Burt opened the deli, which is now run by his Son and Grandson amazing humans! They have a lot of passion for what they do. Their service is top tier and friendly they make you feel very welcomed. The Yummy sandwiche honestly one of the best sandwiches l've had. It was hot and stacked with meats on excellent rye bread with mustard and melt cheese phenomenal. Both corned beef and pastrami was so warm and tender melt in your mouth came with 2 speared pickle which was perfect, My mouth is watering just writing this review thinking about it. It's Definitely worth the $15 it's stacked with so much MEATS!! I watched him slice the pastrami and corned beef and assemble the sandwich along with plenty of conversation. Very personable guy and very Chicago, in my opinion Bert's deli is way more superior than Manny's deli in the city, mannys has dry meats and stale bread!! and it's also definitely 100x more superior than Kaufman's in Skokie!! I will definitely be making the drive out for the yummy anytime I'm craving a corned beef and pastrami sandwich! 100% Recommend!!

If you're looking for an amazing corn beef and pastrami sandwich look no further than Burt's Deli. A small family-owned deli with quality meats and about 5-6 booths for you to enjoy your sandwich fresh. Ralph and his son make you feel like family when you walk in, making sure you are constantly smiling and throwing out jokes to make you laugh. I love how the pictures show the history of that place. We ordered The Yummy and Reuben sandwich both on rye, and a brisket sandwich on an onion roll. The first bite awakens your tastebuds and leaves you wanting more. The corn beef and pastrami were tender and full of flavor. Ralph said the best way to eat these sandwiches is with some fat on them. The brisket sandwich is hands down my favorite. A well-seasoned beefy sandwich on a soft onion roll. It just tastes like pure beef. No au jus needed. Its heaven between a bun! Burt's Deli is definitely worth the drive! And I will DEFINITELY BE BACK!! Make sure to get there early because they are only open from 9-3pm. Thanks to Ralph and his son for putting a lot of love into these sandwiches! Worth every penny!

Ask the Community - Burt's Deli

Chicago is known for good corn beef, but mediocre pastrami. Manny's doesn't cut it. Is there anywhere in the area where I can get the equivalent of Katz's deli in New York, or Montreal type pastrami?

The ambiance is nice, calm and decorated for Valentine's Day which made me smile. It was light and airy, the decor and vibe I got was similar to a Corner Bakery (R.I.P) and Panera Bread. When we go the counter, the cashier was super nice and we explained to her that it was our first time here and she was kind enough to give us some time to look through the menu. My bf ended ordering a BLT sandwich with avocado and then the chicken dumpling soup on the side. I ended up ordering a New Yorker sandwich with the Kickin Crab Chowder soup on the side. Since we were dining in, we chose a booth and the cashier said that our food would be brought to the table when ready which we were fine with. In a matter of moments, they brought the food out. My bf's BLT looked like a typical BLT but we knew where the action laid is if the bacon was crunchy because (....iykyk...). As soon as he bit into it, (drum roll), the bacon was soggy which brought the whole taste of the sandwich down. As bright and fresh as the sandwich looked, the soggy bacon was a no go. My bf was disappointed as was I but he was hungry so he ate the entire sandwich. As far as the soup went, my bf said it was bland which neither more salt or more pepper could save. As for me, my soup was way too salty and just tasted...off. When I think of seafood and chowder, I think thick and flavorful, this was neither. As a fellow seafood lover, it was almost too salty and then too fishy (...never thought I'd ever say that). Same goes for my sandwich. Although piled high with pastrami and corned beef, I wasn't too much a fan of the taste of the bread or the meat. The pastrami was peppered with too much pepper and then the corn beef just didn't taste fresh. We ended our meal with the Godiva chocolate cheesecake and that was the hit of our meal. Rich, succulent and tasty...it was absolutely delicious! Overall, I wasn't too much impressed with the food. It is a bit steep in price but I mean hey! You never know what like and don't like if you don't try. Maybe one day we'll come back and try some other sandwiches but I don't think it will be anytime soon.

If you're interested in the axe throwing, enter on Milwaukee Avenue as the restaurant is in back and easier to get to from the rear. You can enter either way. I didn't get a chance to check out the axe throwing part during this visit so I won't discuss it. We met another couple and entered from the parking lot at the rear. When you walk in the vestibule, you can only enter or exit on the left as the right side corner of the restaurant is used for live music. On this occasion there was a singer/guitarist playing when we arrived. The other party was seated already so we made our way to the table. There are a bunch of tables and seats at the bar. And the place was packed. Clearly people knew the singer and were there in support. The speakers were turned up and it was hard to hear the conversation at the table. It's a nice menu and has a lot of options. This would be a good spot for our Burger Club, as there were a few options to choose between. In addition to the burgers, there were other handhelds, some nice looking entrees, salads, and nice starters. I opted for one of their burgers and asked for it medium rare. It was perfectly prepared and was quite delicious. My wife got a salad and added chicken. There was a ton of chicken in it. It looked nice and she said it was good. Our two companions ordered burgers and a chicken sandwich respectively and also commented on how good the food was. Our server was very attentive and was constantly refilling drinks before being asked, asked how we were doing, if the food was to our liking, and cleared up finished plates. By the way, their ranch is a dill ranch and is quite tasty. I'd give five stars, except it was extremely loud and hard to hear.

Why does Long Grove always feel like some magical far away place when it's really much closer to me…read morethan most places I go? It's probably because of spots like this. When my yelp friends check-in places I always take a peek and add the interesting stuff to my massive and unorganized list of anything and everything I could ever want to try... this place popped up a few times, and I do love good pastries, so I had to make a trip. I say pastries but what really sold me was the pizza slice a buddy got, a savory excuse always helps. I got there before the dinner rush. I know that because it was calm when I got in line, though the line was full. When I left the place was crowded. There are actually 2 lines. One for savory and one for sweet. So like I said, I was here for that pizza slice... and I got it. I'm not sure if they make more throughout the day but there were just a few slices left that I could see. Score! But I do want to say that the more filling pasta dishes and such look AMAZING. I saw gorgonzola garlic bread and had to try that as well... and an arancini. Everything really looked so good, I wanted it all. It's a good thing I love bread because I ate a lot of it here! Great flavor and texture on the garlic bread, I love the little funk from the cheese. Arancini was fried up nicely and didn't retain excess oil. The slice is really good. It's a fair warning that it's about 90% bread, but I understand they make their own dough here and it shows. The crust is so crispy and airy, it's a nice experience. Next up, dessert. I grabbed a Nutella croissant and some gelato, both delicious! The gelato was rich and creamy. The croissant, which they fill to order with your choice of flavors, is another flex on how good their dough and bread baking skills are. Perfect texture, no notes. Would and will eat again. Amazing atmosphere that feels like a quick vacation, and outdoor tables perfect for the warm season. Friendly and inviting staff as well, they tried to sell me on the pear flavor gelato. Maybe next time. This is a not so hidden gem of a spot and a must try for bread lovers! I'll be back soon for pasta and more!
