The portions are super small. I'm not sure that one dish could feed a small, thin 5 year old. The $15 salad my mom got didn't have any dressing and was literally one handful of greens. One glass of cheap wine is $15 when you can get a full bottle for &12 at any shop. Service was so slow we literally finished and left before the wine and last dish came out. Don't bother going. I've been waiting like forever for this place to open, and it does not disappoint. We received a warm welcome and were invited to sit in the wine bar (more on that later) or the restaurant. We opted for the restaurant because RL is not a big fan of bar height chairs. We skipped The charcuterie and went straight for the small plates (which were NOT small). The meatballs were unexpectedly spicy (but in a good way), and the cassoulet was unusual, but delicious. Much drier than I expect from a cassoulet but full of flavor and perfectly complemented by the broccolini. The ravioli was delicious, but the filling was slightly dry. I'm not a big fan of Brussels sprouts, but these were quite nice. The food star was dessert! The tiramisu was to die for. We tend to judge Italian restaurants by their tiramisu, and RL and I agreed that this is easily the best we've ever had! So food aside, the absolute star of the evening was the wine bar! I had the "staff pick" wine flight, and Taylor the sommelier asked me some questions about what I liked and didn't, and chose four 3 oz. pours for me. He was willing to spend a great deal of time at our table explaining about vineyards and vintages and countries of origin, and picked out three excellent (like really excellent) pours and one very good one. Great food and great service. Their food and coffee explode with flavor. You can sense the care of their food prep. I have eaten here or their take out several times over the last couple of years. My favorite dish is Porchetta Hash. Simply incredible and their service is top notch. read more

We left feeling unsatisfied and disappointed.. we came in at 7:25 and started off with the burrata crostini which was really delicious. We ordered the fish and it was fried well but the entire dish wasn't satisfactory. I ordered the anima cucina board and for 17 dollars most of the board was almonds. The grapes were the only really good thing on there. We wanted to try more of their menu and tried to order the spicy shrimp at 8 and was told the kitchen was closed already right after being asked if we needed anything else. Anima Cucina is wonderful! The atmosphere is clean, sunny, bright and modern. First, the mundane stuff. You get your own water, silverware and napkins just past the register. The staff was super friendly and helpful! I had a cappuccino which was good. Nothing special but very solid. My aunt and I split the mac and cheese which I could tell was made with very quality cheese. It has a bit of bite/spiciness to it which didn't bother me but my aunt is sensitive to those foods so she couldn't finish it. We both are vegetarian and got the vegan sandwich. We agreed that we couldn't even tell the cheese was vegan! And the fake meat was delicious. The entire sandwich was hands down the best I've ever had. Not just another boring veggie sandwich - fake meat and cheese, so much flavor, some peppers - it is life changing! And the focaccia it is served on was wonderful too. The food is amazing. The customer service is terrible. I've been here twice. Once with work and there was no greeting or anything. Just walk up to the front. Ask for your food and that's it. When you ask for water you're given a small carafe and small glasses. I like the house cheese and meat board. That is extremely good. The second time I met with a friend and again the person behind the counter didn't have a smile, a greeting or anything. I felt bad for walking in there. It was a Monday night but the place was empty. For being down town I was surprised. Experiencing the greeting I got I can understand. So a new restaurant comes to town, you are all excited! Then you try it! First of all they were out of 2 main entrees at 6pm and that's with a reservation! No one will greet or seat you, you need to figure out that your reserved table has a sticky note on it with your name on it! The charcuterie board was very good but the main dish of ravioli and the others had chicken were ok at best. The chicken was dry ( good thing we had wine to wash it down) along with the tiny amount of roasted veggies that went along with the dish. Oh and did I mention for this fine dining price you get to serve yourself!!!!!!! Go to the counter to place your order and then the machine will ask you to do a standard tip or no tip ..... well, why should you get a tip for doing nothing? No service! Yes, you prepared the meal but you also charge a huge price for that meal. Ok, then I decided it was an off night for the restaurant ..... I'll try it again, this time I ordered a chachuterie board to go. The price for a small which feeds 4-6 people was $48. I am expecting a nice board that will feed my guests great appetizers and they are going to be impressed! Nope!! I picked up the tiny tiny board which might feed 4 if they don't want much. I said to the clerk how disappointed I was in the tray and she just glared at me like I was speaking a foreign language! Fool me once shame on you .... fool me twice shame on me .... When we looked at the menu we weren't sure we going to stay but decided to give it a try. We are so glad we made that decision, the food is spectacular. We wanted spaghetti & meatballs but that is not on the menu so one of us ordered the meatballs and the other ordered the spaghetti with kale & lemon then mixed it together. Wow, really delicious. One of our friends ordered the Walleye, he wasn't as wowed about the fish, a bit too salty but he did eat it all. She ordered the meatballs and raved about the taste. The hot bread is wonderful.
