I love this vet very much. My cat has a ton of health issues, and finding care for her has been difficult because she does not cooperate. Every appointment I've had with Animal Care Clinic has been with a Vet who very clearly cares about what they do and demonstrate compassion and gentleness with my finicky fur baby. I have gone to PLENTY of vets and I assure you this is the best I've found so far in all of San Diego and very much worth the longer drive. Parking is always available and there are several appointment times making it easy to schedule a visit. The only caveat is that it is rather pricey. I will always do the best I can for my cat, so I know it's worth it. But it can be quite a high price so make sure it's in your budget. read more

I've been a customer for more than 25 years, and like many good things, sometimes they come to an end. Since the retirement of Dr. Roger Beckman and, I'm guessing, the sale of ACC, it feels like the focus has shifted from pet care to pet sales. We brought our puggle in because one of her nails was growing abnormally and needed attention. This was a follow-up visit after an initial appointment that cost $392 for an exam and antifungal medication. At today's visit, we were given two options: sedate her for about $200 and trim the nail, or trim it without sedation and give her something for discomfort beforehand. We chose the second option. The nail was trimmed back, along with the rest of her nails. When we received the bill, however, we discovered we had been charged nearly $100 for a Carprofen injection that had never been quoted. My wife questioned the charge, and the technician acknowledged the concern, but by then the injection had already been administered. The total bill for today's visit? $317. That included the injection plus $37 for two Carprofen caplets. So after spending more than $700 between the two visits, we ended up with a trimmed nail and a lot of sticker shock. To be clear, Dr. Sullivan was great. She was professional, caring, and took the time to explain the treatment plan. My issue isn't with her. It's with a process that seems increasingly focused on adding charges and selling services rather than providing transparent, affordable care. After 25+ years as a customer, that's disappointing. Pet owners should ask detailed questions and get all costs in writing before authorizing treatment. Sadly, it's probably time for us to find a new veterinarian. read more

Changing my previous 5-star review from two years ago to 1 star. After 20-plus years of loyalty to this practice, I am never coming back. It really feels like this place has changed ownership, because the standard of care has completely tanked. I took my elderly dog in earlier this week, and he was left suffering because the fill-in vet on duty apparently "wasn't allowed" to prescribe certain types of medication. How do you even leave a vet on duty as the *only* doctor available if they aren't fully permitted to prescribe what a patient needs? They told us to come back first thing the next morning when a regular vet could sign it. I took the day off work and showed up at 8:00 AM , waited an hour, and was told they'd call me when it was ready. I came back at 11:00 AM, and still, no written prescription. When I asked why it was taking so long, the staff literally told me the vet was so busy he hadn't even had time to go to the bathroom. Look, if your clinic is that poorly managed, don't schedule appointments and don't tell people to show up at 8:00 AM. It's now pretty obvious why they make getting a physical prescription such a nightmare: they've heavily shifted their practices to push their own in-house mail-order service to bring in more money. What they don't tell you is that their mail-order takes days to actually get to you, and they completely hide the fact that under California state law, you have the right to a paper prescription you can take to any outside pharmacy. Using chaotic scheduling and corporate sales tactics as an excuse to let a suffering animal go without medication is completely inexcusable. The total lack of urgency and terrible communication completely broke two decades of trust. read more

I am very sad to say my vet that I have been going to for 30+ years and often refer friends and family to has gone through some significant changes due to the pending retirement of the principal vet for the practice Dr. Roger Beckman. Dr. Beckman had high ethics and integrity and took excellent care of my pets over the years. Over the last year the service has declined and everytime I come in I am feeling as though I am being up charged and nickled and dimed. Services are being recommended for exorbitant costs that are not necessary and had not ever happened with Dr. Beckman. I have had 3 appointments over the last 2 months and everytime being upsold. I truly miss Dr. Beckman. In addition, the practice no longer allows you to shop for your pet's medication such has flea treatments to get the best pricing instead they require all prescriptions be filled on site also adding to their ability to get more money from long time clients. read more

They recommended a different pet clinic. ACC will take your money for exams and vaccinations But make NO ALLOWANCE to care for your sick pet . If I could give them aa 0 I would. I had this clinic for a while. They lied to me and when I got upset they refused to see my cats anymore. One of my cats has kidney disease. I am disabled and can't drive and they refused to order medication for my 18 yr. Old cat that has the kidney disease. They said I had to go somewhere else. I had to euthanize one of my cats (16 years old) at the Humane Society and I didn't get to be with him. They also cut one of my cats medication in half after I realized they lied to me. They were supposed to give me one month of medication free so they cut it in half and I didn't realize it until it ran out early. If this clinic has to choose between care and money they pick money. They won't order medication for my dying cat and I don't have the money to take him somewhere else. I don't know how they sleep at night. read more

Terrible service. Made an appointment for an injury to my puppy. When I arrived, they said my appointment was for next week. They were not correct. I even called to confirm when I left work "early" and they confirmed my appointment. They REFUSED to see my puppy regardless of the confirmed appointment and he was already their patient. The front desk made a scene in front of other customers painting a picture of me being incompetent. It was obvious they did not want another client who had a large dog. My other pet is a small dog and I never had a problem with them previously. I am reaching out to the community and letting families know they pick and choose their customers and if you have a large breed dog, this place is NOT a good choice for your fur family. Dr. Katie Rivard is the worst vet out there. Incompetence and negligence and unprofessionalism. My dog passed away nine days after seeing this so called vet, from intense bleeding in her spleen. Rivard didn't even take the time to do an ultrasound for her stomach after we specifically told her she has not eating well for the past week, as well as feeling lethargic. She simply did a blood panel test and said that she was normal. I spoke to couple of vets after that and they told me that it is because of my dog's Blood test was norma, It was more than necessary to have an ultrasound done because of her consistent lack of appetite and fatigue. Don't take your pet to be seen by Rivard. Otherwise, you may never see your pet again... An untrustworthy and disingenuous woman like Rivard should have her veterinarian license revoked immediately! read more

I come here every 3 weeks for a nail trim it use to be 16 when I started and jumped to 23 for a 2 minute trim That's insane. I discovered a vet office down the street that's a lot cheaper. This place, the people who work here... all amazing. Beyond words. I am forever grateful for Dr Gotz and Dr Beckman. They saved my baby's life. That bias aside, I came to this vet because I couldn't make it an hour north that we normally travel to see our former vet. Dr Gotz is who we saw and she got right on the floor with my girl and loved on her. She took the time to read over her medical history, and then she took the time to LOVE on her! She actually talked to her and made her a part of the appointment rather than just the reason for the appointment. Just from that visit alone I decided they were the new clinic for us. We moved further south over the years, so it's a bittersweet goodbye to a vet who's known our dogs for years. It's sweet because I know my dogs are in amazing hands here. I don't have to think twice. What matters to me is that they really care deeply, and they translate that well in the exceptional care and advice they provide. My girl had a mass on her face that her former veterinarian thought may be immune mediated. Dr Gotz suggested she would be more aggressive about it and get it biopsied, so we did just that. It came back that it was a pretty aggressive cancer. It was just a bad call by the other veterinarian, there was no way to know. So we needed to get it surgically removed. No one wanted to try their hand at surgically removing it, but Dr Beckman did. And he got it all. ALL of it. I would be writing this review regardless of the outcome of the surgery. This is a clinic you can trust. They exceeded my expectations. I am forever grateful for what they've done for my family. read more

We recently adopted our baby girl from the San Diego humane society and they give us an initial free health check certificate to use at a veterinarian of our choice that is it they were to accept it. You would think who wouldn't right? It's just an initial check we would pay for any shots and or services provided after. When I called them they said NO without any hesitation. I just find it weird, heartless almost especially since it's a veterinarian clinic that supposedly cares for the well-being of animals. Surely a 15 min checkup wouldn't make a dent on their finances especially since we would potentially be customers. My dog received excellent care here, and I have officially made this place my regular vet. My dog had a wart on his eye that was bothering him. I originally took him to a different vet, who informed me he would need to undergo surgery for removal and that it would cost around $900 at the end of it all. Though I suspected this was a proper diagnosis, I wasn't at all sure I could trust my dog with them. So I brought my dog here for a second opinion (something I've never done before) based on the awesome reviews. So glad I did. We saw Dr. Bader, who is only there on Thursdays, and she was awesome. I was able to get an appointment for the day after I called. She did a thorough examination, wanted to hear about the progression of the wart from the beginning, and agreed that he needed to have his wart removed. However, she suggested that they could try sedation and removal without him being anesthetized. Even with the full anesthesia, it was going to cost nearly $200 less than the other place, and I trusted her fully. So much so that I scheduled it on the day she would next be there even though it landed on my birthday. My dog was able to have his wart removed with just sedation. Dr. Bader personally called me with the good news about an hour before Toast was up. The front desk staff was really courteous both times I was there, and even called to check on him the next day. They also had a small lamp and signs up that said to please be quiet, as someone in one of the rooms was saying goodbye to their pet. I thought that was really lovely. Additionally, I had to bring my dog to an emergency vet recently because he ingested a lot of plastic while I was at work, and I went to the vet that was recommended on Animal Care Clinic's website. I mentioned to the emergency vet (PESC) that that is where I got their contact information. They must have notified them because Animal Care Clinic called me the next day to check on my dog! Overall, they are awesome, affordable (I think the exam fee was $60, which is high for me, but I'm willing to pay for wonderful service), and caring. read more

I believe in interviewing your doctors like you would an employee you want to hire. In order for a doctor to pass my interview they really have to go through hoops. This clinic has gone through all of my hoops and anything else that has come along. Initially I went to this clinic because I owned a Great Dane that hated, I mean HATED vets. She couldn't be looked at without great pomp and circumstance and a muzzle. I didn't want to believe this was going to be her lot in life. Someone suggested Dr. Beckman because he was a breed Vet and specifically a Great Dane Vet. So I took my Danae to Dr. Beckman and she ran to him tail waving (in a positive way) and did her famous Great Dane lean. She fell in love and so did I. Dr. Beckman and the other Vets have become family to us. Danae died at the age of 2 of lymphoma and I can tell you that her vets cried with us. When my French Bulldog was stolen during a trip through Albuquerque, NM, someone from this office called daily to see if I had any news and asked how they could help. These people are our family. Now my husband and I run the San Diego Mastiff Group and we have many rescues that come our way. The Amazing Staff at Animal Care Clinic smile and shake their heads and say, so who did you bring in today. They have never failed us. I promise you they will not fail you either.
