This was our first time having to use emergency care for our dog. We recently had to take our Boxer in at 1AM after she would not stop throwing up (we are talking every half hour or so from 5PM until we took her in). We called around midnight and they explained that they were about to go into emergency surgery and to come in in about an hour if our dog threw up again. Well.. she did and we took her in, she received great care from the staff and veterinarian. I loved how they laid out all of our options (x-rays, blood work, overnight stay, etc.) and let us choose what we wanted to do. We found nothing in her stomach from the x-rays so they gave her a great anti-nausea injection, gave her fluids because she was dehydrated from all the vomiting and sent us home with more anti-nausea meds. I appreciate all of you for what you do, emergency care cannot be easy and my husband and I thank you for taking great care of our boxer girl! read more

Absolute worst Vet I have ever met. Easily annoyed that my dog wouldnt just sit or stand without any movement so she could stick thermometer in his rear. Got an attitude with me out of the blue. Asked ME what the diagnosis was. She left room to go Google..Hello Im paying you hundreds to do this?!!!Complained the entire visit which left me nasty rude and angry in which I walked out in the middle of her useless instruction. Diagnosed my pet myself. Gave away free money. Turned around next day found a Superb vet in Ferndale Dr V. DONT BE A VET IF YOU HATE ANIMALS you moran! Vet Techs were incredibly lovely ladies. Very friendly and helpful. I called them twice over a 24 hour period and they gave me advice both times. The second time I decided to come in to the office to get my kitty checked out based on their advice. So, 2am, driving to this vet...alone...with a sick kitty. I arrive, a little nervous, and the nurse and vet are so friendly and kind! Gave my cat great care and admired his colorings, gave him love, etc. Very straight-forward about the bill and quoted me before any procedures. All said and done, about $200, including medications to take him. So, not terrible for emergency 2am service on a Sunday night! They gave me excellent care instruction notes and follow up information with my regular vet. The reviews below scared me, so I had to share! read more

My fiancé and I took our senior cat here on a Saturday morning after our regular vet refused to get us in for an appointment. Our cat was showing signs of kidney failure and it was crucial we get him seen right away. We got in right away and the vet confirmed that it was kidney failure. The veterinarian went over our options and we decided on euthanasia. Everyone was so nice and understanding. They gave us a paw print to take home. It was one of the worst days I have had in a long time, but the staff made it a little easier. read more

We brought our dog in with a fever and tremors. We were told on check in that the vet was with another pet and we would be seen soon. Well, we waited an hour with a very unhappy pup. I went to ask how much longer and was only then told 2 people were still ahead of us and there was no time estimate. At 1.5 hours I asked again how long. They said the vet was discharging another pet and should be in, "it should not be an hour". Well after 2 hours and no vet and no one checking in on us or giving us any information we left. Over the 2 hours we waited our dogs fever dropped, she stopped shaking and seemed much better. read more

We've taken our 2 year old rhodesian ridgeback female here twice now. Once when we came home to find her covered nose to tail in hives. We were in and out very quickly, about an hour or so. The second was just last week when she started vomiting blood, was lethargic, weak, and had no interest in eating anything. They admitted her right away, kept her overnight for 2 nights. She had a pretty extensive work-up and surgery. We were positive we were going to lose her, but she is home recovering and getting stronger every day. After the prompt and amazing care we have received at AEC, we are looking into changing our regular vet. By comparison he really is just average and not the person I want to call in an emergency. I wish I could go here for regular vet care. Every vet we've seen here has been fantastic, but a special shout out to Dr. Gill. She is not only incredibly knowledgeable and beyond competent, but took the time to explain the rationale behind the more invasive interventions which we were on the fence about. She inspired complete confidence that we were making the right decisions. Drs. Cook, Fjeld, and staff also took amazing care of our girl. I have zero complaints at this time and will definitely go see them in the future if the need should arise. read more

My experience is probably the same as anyone driving to an emergency vet- because I was terrified. The only other time I've been there- was when a close friend called me from the other side of the world- because her dog sitter brought him in; due to sudden loss of mobility and pain in his back legs. She was traveling very far away, when she got the call. Through tears she tried to tell me what was happening- and she didn't want him to be alone- with complete strangers. I dropped everything- and drove in - and the staff were expecting me. They let me go in- and lay beside sweet Ankir- and FaceTime his momma. She was able to fly home a week early- and be beside him when that most dreaded decision had to be made. Last night- I came home to my 9 year old Bernese - walking crooked, drooling, and totally out of sorts. My vet wasn't open, and I had no choice. I took Gweni straight in without even calling. I was sobbing the entire time. Pulled in and ran up to the doors----Covid--- I completely didn't think about it- and tried to pry the doors open. I saw the attendant - on the phone- telling me to wait. He came out 30 seconds later, and i was such a mess that I could barely think straight. He ran back in- and came out with a box of tissues. Another tech came out- and together, they got me calmed down with such empathy. They took my girl inside- but due to Covid, I had wait in my car and let them take her away. I was called quickly by the Vet; to be told his opinion, ask questions and verify and agree to the cost beforehand. I was able to take Gweni home last night- alive, and doing better. She rested pretty comfortably beside me all night. And now, i am able to reflect on the care she- and myself- were given by the staff there. I awoke with very swollen eyes this morning. With her age,breed and symptoms involved- I thought the nights outcome would be much different . I didn't think she would be coming home with me. Today she's here- not 100 percent- but close enough. A mild stroke of sorts- but she is home. I am soooo sorry I can't recollect the names of the staff at the ER vet last night. But I really hope you see this- and know how much your compassion meant to us last night. Thank you- thank you- thank you. You carried me through a very worrisome time- and you all did it with such loving care of my worry. All of you were masked up- but believe me- i can still see your eyes and feel and hear your encouraging and compassionate words and love of my beautiful (almost) 10 year old Bernese. Everyday after 8 years is a gift for this specific breed. So- thank you again - for not only loving and helping Gweni- but also for feeling my pain and worry- and so kindly, giving me the hope and strength to drive back home- WITH my girl- and a great appreciation for all of you working at "Amimal Emergency" in Bellingham, Washington. read more

My son brought his GSD in for pain, lethargy and a visible swelling on his side causing a large bulge. The dog was taken from him while he waited outside, the receptionist collected $750 cash and he was told they would run some blood work, get a stool sample and some xrays. 10 minutes later they returned and asked for $100 more in cash saying they only had $650. (FIRST Problem) In an hour they returned with the dog, said they were UNABLE to get his temperature, and could NOT collect a stool sample even though the report noted they "saw evidence of diarrhea"! The blood work showed signs of infection, according to Dr. Carl Johnson who (thought) it might be a stomach infection according to his report. The dog was then given shots of the WRONG medicine for vomiting (the dog NEVER vomited) and was released to my son and prescribed a second WRONG antibiotic (for stomach infection which WAS NOT PRESENT) that my son was to administer 2x daily and told to wait for a few days to see if there was improvement. The next day the dog was in such poor condition and when we called we were told that for $800 they wold run the same tests. Upon bringing him to a new Vet we found the dog to have a visible abscess at the site of the external swelling, a drain was placed and he was given proper meds. Ultrasound showed that there was zero swelling internally and no organs were affected, the stomach nor intestines had swelling, there was just a very large abscess which has now been properly treated by a competent vet . There has been NO apology and No refund and it has been 2 weeks. I call the vet hospital everyday and they give me nice excuses as to why a manager can not take my calls. read more

Before this Monday morning, I would've given AEC a 5, no problem. I've brought my giant doofus Labrador in for a toenail split up past the quick to be fixed up by Dr. Johnson. Dr. Johnson is really fantastic and was able to get our 86 pound, terrified, in-pain dog calm enough to help fix him up. Dr. Johnson is very friendly and I have nothing but nice things to say! This weekend, my tiny puggle-chiweenie got into some bad garbage or something and was in pretty serious shape. We brought him in on Sunday night to Dr. Williams. Dr. Williams, like Dr. Johnson, was absolutely fantastic. I was in bad shape myself, as I was certain my dog was going to die. He was having strong muscle contractions and what felt like seizures. Dr. Williams was very accommodating to my financial situation and was more than willing to make absolutely sure we could get the essentials for the pup regardless. This included blood testing and a test for antifreeze, which was greatly appreciated. She and her techs were also very friendly and kept us well-updated. Which brings us to Dr. Reese (I assume it was Robin Reese, the blonde with many freckles who looks very, very young). She is NOT alright. She is NOT friendly. She is NOT accommodating or understanding. She quite reminds me of the notorious vet over at Mt Veterinary in Deming (the dude, and if you've dealt with him you know what I mean). I spoke with her Monday morning to see if my dog that I'd been told should be fine to go home was indeed, ready to go. I was informed that my dog ABSOLUTELY had to go our regular vet (what's that?!) to be on an IV all day (after 11 hours on one, for minimal vomiting, and he was eating and drinking fine according to the tech? REALLY?!) and not home as he was still "a bit shaky". After the $550 we'd had to ask my parents and in-laws for help on, I doubted this would happen but agreed to talk. I came in and told her after discussing with my husband, we just couldn't afford that, and needed home care instructions. So started the flouncing, the pouting, the eye-rolling and the sighs of condescension. Our little dog is still young, and due to having a pretty seriously tight budget we've done his shots ourselves (and forgot rabies, ok, that's being remedied NOW). I live in the county, this is a pretty common thing, as is waiting a while to neuter. He just turned one, okay? Dr. Williams was aware of all of this, and didn't really judge or make an ass about disagreeing with how we were trying to trudge along. Dr. Reese, on the other hand, let me know that I was irresponsible and not taking sufficient care of my dog. She also let me know, repeatedly, and in front of my two young children, that if my dog were to start seizures again he would die. Just, BAM, he'll die. Apparently. IN FRONT OF MY KIDS. Four times! And yeah, my son totally cried in the car about that one. What a way to start the week. I informed Dr. Reese that I'd taken care of dogs who'd been sick like this before (two very naughty dogs that'd found rancid baby diapers), that I stayed home anyhow and planned on just that, and would definitely take him to another vet if his condition reverted. I also RE-explained my financial conundrum and was met, yet again, with sighs, glares, eye rolling and a flouncing sulk. I understand I'm not doing perfectly, and yes, my dog got out and ate gross crap. I accept my blame here, but as a paying customer and an OBVIOUSLY concerned pet owner I absolutely did not deserve to be treated like that, nor did my kids need to hear her BS scare tactics or rudeness. This particular person is the most unprofessional "professional" I've ever had the poor luck to run against, and that's no small feat. So, all in all, I would give Drs Johnson and Williams 5 stars, no problem. I also found all of the vet techs I've dealt with (including the deplorable Dr Reese's lovely and kind tech) to be professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. Avoid like the plague if Dr. Reese is working, or at least steel yourself for sh***iness if you have to differ with her. I would really like to find the hiring body responsible and report her properly, but alas, Yelp will have to do. I also recommend you read the filtered review here that calls Dr. Reese out specifically. She has no place in the public sector. (and puppy is fine, I literally carried him in a baby sling and fed him whey and kept him at my side for twelve hours. He was back to normal by 4pm. This place is all about the money. The money is more important to them than the patient. Our cat broke his rear leg at upper part by the hip and they wanted $575.00 before they would even give him a shot for the pain. It was absolutely paid on the spot or nothing. Our cat was 18 years and they said it can not be fixed and he is to old. So they gave our cat a shot and we paid the $575.00 and left with low hopes on our kitty. We took out cat Monday to the vet on mt baker highway in Deming this vet wired our cats leg back up and did a great job. "God bless him" thanks to him we got to spend 2 more years with him until his kidneys failed. The same vet seen us through on that as well they made it a peaceful experience our kitty purred the whole time till he went to sleep. Back to this AEC you have to change the way you do business. This group of doctors and techs fill a need I didn't even know existed until I needed a vet on a holiday weekend. They were there. They are only open nights, weekends and major holidays. They do it all for your sick/injured animal. They are awesome about letting worried people calling in or arranging to visit their pet. My cat had an altercation with a car and needed to be observed for a full holiday weekend, we went by several times to check on him and called multiple times just to know he was doing ok. They understand pets and their people here. read more

I lost my little Winston tonight, and while I don't think the care was substandard I was taken aback by a few things. 1st when the day time dr called me to let me know that Winston was improving but needed to stay the night I was happy. A few hours later I received a call from the clinic but as I answered the person calling me who happened to be the overnight veterinarian was laughing about something that must have been said by a coworker as she was dialing the phone. I didn't take offense to the laughter, I even assumed that it was a good sign. instead the veterinarian cleared her through and said "I have some bad news, he is going down hill" at this point I wasn't sure they had called the right person. "My dog is a girl" i said. The veterinarian replied "yes, he I mean she, is going downhill" I was confused at the time and didn't understand why they would all be standing around laughing when one of them would be calling to tell someone that their baby was probably not gonna make it through the night or why the one person in the whole world who should have known that the animal in question was a female and didn't seem to know.... Whatever I got in the car and sped over in the hopes of making it before she was gone. I might have just made it. When I mentioned that I had been raising money to pay for Winston's bill, the same veterinarian who had been laughing on the phone said oh that's good you can still use that to bay the bill. I said yeah the bill for someone else's dog attacking Winston. She then said to me "well you did take her in the big dog section". As if her opinion had any right to be injected into the short moment I had to say goodbye before they were to start a blood transfusion. As she walked me back to the lobby she said "I give her 50/50 odds at this point but she's a puppy and they often bounce back." I "yeah but she's three, she isn't a puppy". "Oh oh yes that right." She replied well we will let you know as soon as we know something. I didn't dare leave the parking lot, I even went in again and expressed concern that maybe I hadn't given them all of her information earlier and that maybe that's why the Veterinarian didn't know that she was a female and that she was 3 years old. ... nope it was all there, in the computer, on the chart etc.... I went back to my car. They called again after like 5 minuets to let me know that they had coffee and tea and anything else I might need. That was nice. Then I went to the bathroom during which time she passed, as they got me into the back she was gasping for air and rather than the vet saying (even if it was a lie) "this is it, she can just hear you" she said "she is brain dead and already gone" all of this while the other people who were working were making small talk. The more minuets that pass the more I feel robbed. The circumstances were bad enough, but to have the veterinarian who should have been so focused on Winston and I, lay the blame for her untimely death on me while here little heart was still pushing blood to her dead brain and treat it like it was no big deal because after all she has seen hundreds of dogs and cats die, to not even know the basic info about the dog. I am new to the area and was thankful for help, however our experience there, added trauma to our already very difficult situation! My dog had blood coming from her nose and mouth and the receptionist chit chatted on the phone for several minutes completely ignoring me standing right in front of her. A "smile" would have felt reassuring. Several minutes later a staff member came out and walk through the office not saying a word. Finally someone came our and handed me paperwork and walked off simply saying, fill this out. No one was concerned or caring. I'm put in a very hot room, the tech, at lease I suppose that's who she was she didn't say, came in picked up the paperwork briefly looked at my baby and left. The Vet came in, and gave a good look over, ordered labs and left, she was nice. The girl tech came in and I asked her some questions, as my dogs medical issues were life threatening and I was trying to wrap my head out of what was happening. The girl said she didn't have time to answers, I was to ask the Vet when she came back. I have PTSD and all the stress and anxiety caused me to have a panic attack. The Vet came in and scolded me for crying because it is making things worse. Geee thank-you for your kindness :/! Often times after having a panic attack it's hard to concentrate and process information let alone thinking my precious little girl could die! Because I couldn't get my thoughts together and had a hard time understanding, I asked the girl tech if she would help by calling my husband at work and explain the situation so he could help me. She said no! Really?? What the heck!! There were several people coming in and out of the clinic going in the back laughing and carrying on, this was far more important to her than her job. So, the Vet came in and answered questions and said she would have someone call. Treatment was going to be thousands of dollars and my baby girl needed to go to a special hospital in another city near Seattle. The Vet sent me home with papers explaining my little girls diagnosis. That was helpful so I could read through it in a calmer setting. It was a horrible experience made worse by the by the lack of care and concern from the clinic staff! Now that I have a Vet. I will pay more for an ER visit. Their is another AMC up Meridian I would try there before I would return to the one on Telegraph. I wish I could say this clinic was fast, friendly with a loving, caring atmosphere but I can't. read more

If we could give a zero review we would. We brought our dog in with a fever of 104+ and shakes and after waiting 2 hours without any updates and not even seeing the vet we walked out. We asked receptionist 4 times and she kept telling us there was one pet ahead of us and it wouldn't be to much longer. Got my German Shepherd spayed a couple days ago. Woke up at 5am to her shaking her cone off and bleeding a bit. Naturally this doggie mama was freaking out a bit. I called and the wonderful lady I spoke with calmed us both down and gave us completely unbiased, professional advise. I wish I'd gotten her name. She was amazing! ! Didn't even push for us to go in and spend the crazy rates. In fact she recommended waiting if we could!! Refreshing and not money hungry. I'm so impressed! Our 4 pound dog Sadie got stung by a bee and her foot was twice the size. Called Animal Emergency Care they said she might be having a reaction and to bring her in. They were absolutely amazing got in right away the staff was really caring for our dog and did a wonderful job. That person then shared our personal info on FB. The information posted on FB wasn't even correct. This is both unethical and a huge breach of confidentiality. The reception was EXTREMELY rude and unsympathetic. I have a crying, dying cat and the person I talked to wouldn't listen to what I have to say but talked over me the whole time and kept asking "Are you done?" She made guesses on what she thought might be wrong and said the best thing to do would probably be to euthanize my cat. Didn't her employers train her?? She didn't offer to take my name or number - nothing. I haven't had to speak with someone so cold about something so scary in a VERY long time! Boooo! read more

Absolute FIVE star care for our kitty!! Our kitty STELLA showed symptoms of a UTI, about two weeks ago. The minute we noticed it, we started calling Bellingham vets in the afternoon. Our regular vet is Brookfield in Redmond, WA (excellent care). We were quite rudely treated by about three of them with NO compassion whatsoever. We will NOT be transferring to any of those, that is for sure. We googled the Animal Emergency Care and walked in the door about 6:30 PM. Dr. Kristin had an emergency with a dog, however, she saw us so quickly. She was compassionate and caring and SO likeable. Our kitty was very comfortable with her. She kept Stella for a couple of hours and did a urine analysis. She got to the bottom of the issue, immediately. She gave Stella a shot and sent us home with two pain pills We were SO relieved and cannot say enough about this place. All the staff was so accommodating and just plain NICE. I wish this place was a regular vet hospital, because this would be our new hospital. The treatment that I received from front office personnel at three other regular vets was hideous and the soonest that they could see us was one week. So much for saving slots for emergency appointments. Rest assured YOU three will NOT be getting our business. We have used emergency vets down south a couple of times. It was a very clinical atmosphere and VERY cold. Wanted a portion of the charge upfront. I asked Animal Emergency Care, if they wanted us to pay upfront and she said "absolutely NOT" . Our kitty is doing so well and we will see out regular vet in Redmond, next week. We also purchased a fountain at Dr. Kristin's suggestion - STELLA loves it!! Thank you SO much! read more

Our dog ate rat poison and we got in promptly. The doc was great, the space was clean and appeared to be brand new. All staff were kind and thoughtful. Their cost was MUCH less than our regular vet. read more

We took our sick dog here in the middle of the night and they figured out what was wrong with her right away. They took great care of her so we felt good about that. They are a little expensive but worth it when it's for a beloved member of your family and they are there at all hours to help your pet when you need them. read more

I went to the clinic for the first time this weekend. My cat was lethargic, vomiting, and wouldn't eat or drink! I was so worried about how dehydrated he was and had no idea what was wrong! I'm glad that Bellingham has this service, and the techs there were very friendly and fantastic. Unfortunately Dr. Reese, the veterinarian present, was brusque, dismissive, didn't introduce herself, and was unwilling to discuss treatment options. I left feeling like my dog had been given an unnecessarily aggressive level of care against my wishes, but Dr. Reese made it clear immediately after I voiced my first concern that she wouldn't discuss other options and wouldn't treat my dog if I didn't agree to do it her way. They definitely got the job done, but I hope Dr. Reese can work on her bedside manner and adopt a more flexible attitude in the future. read more

Wish zero stars were an option! This place is horrible! If you love your pets take them somewhere else. This place only cares about getting paid for their marginal care! I made the mistake of forgetting my wallet when transferring my dog from his vet to this god forsaken place and was treated like I was going to run out on a $125 bill after a surgery that cost 20x that! I have never paid a deposit at a vet and it didn't even cross my mind that this would be an issue but apparently it was! My dog was still woozy from surgery and couldn't walk very well but the "tech" handled it by dragging him out of the exam room into the back instead of getting help to move him! I was nauseous thinking about my dog having to spend the night there! After bringing my concerns about the rude and uncompassionate treatment to the vet on staff, she argued with me for 10 minutes and suggested I come get my dog! Which reaffirms that the care of the animals is not their top priority! How this place is still in business is beyond me!!! read more

My yorkie needed a few stitches after being injured and I called several vets to find someone open on a Saturday afternoon. The only place that didn't put me on hold forever and who agreed to help us was AEC. We got there around 5:20 pm, and they were wonderful! Dr. Williams saw Reilly, was fantastic with him, and Reilly was totally at ease with her. She had him stitched up, cone in hand and meds within about 30 minutes, and we actually got home before 6:30 pm!! There were two other animals that came in after us, and they were seen and cared for quickly too -- and their animals looked very happy as well. The bill was comparable to other places - it was just shy of $200, but that was to be expected. The discharge papers were written as a personal note from Dr. Williams - she even stated that Reilly was VERY good and she didn't need to sedate him! I would definitely recommend AEC to anyone! On Christmas eve our precious Dog POD, had a seizure and we went to AEC in Bellingham and the doctor who helped with our dogs care was Dr Krista or something that started with a K and she was the most caring and knowledgeable person, and such sympathy for our baby, we picked up our dog Christmas Day, Dr Williams was on duty she was great too. Then on New Years day our precious baby girl pepperann 16 was declining so bad we had to go there again to have her put to sleep. The young tech was good and i could see she cared and I am not trying to give her bad reviews but she just didnt know what to say as i was bawling away, she couldnt find the vein on pepperann for she was down to almost 2 pounds so she brought in another gal, boy she was stone cold, not a word did she say to me other than turn the dog over , she also checked us out and not one word of I am sorry or anything, maybe you train them to not get involved, i hope not, at this difficult time i would have just loved to have had a few words of sympathy.
