No one visits a vet ER for fun but while my purpose in being at Pet Emergency Center was stressful, my experience there was outstanding. Every staff member I encountered was kind, friendly, patient, and helpful. One thoughtful woman went out of her way to bring a bowl of water for my dog (who was not the animal needing care but could not be left at home alone). The doctor who saw my injured cat was generous with his time, answered my questions thoroughly, and had a good sense of humor. Staff members did their best to make sure I did not miss my return ferry and even gave helpful advice on where to find a decent latte at the crack of dawn. When it came time to pay I was expecting a bill in the mid four digits- after all, this is ER care at 3am on a weekend- but the total was shockingly low! I even asked if they had forgotten to add in his bag of meds! The fact that affordable, quality emergency care like this exists is deeply heartening. We had a scary emergency with our boy Teddy and didn't even know where to begin or who to call when our vet wasn't open. We called in the late evening on a Saturday night and drove almost an hour to find such caring compassionate people at Pet Emergency Center. We had a good wait of course bc it was after a holiday but we waited comfortably in our car where they offered to come and get us when it was time. They let us know ahead of costs so we wouldn't be shocked. The compassion and care by the incredible intake nurse was so needed after our last experience with a vet was so heartbreaking, we left without our dog. She left the room and l heard loudly per the female vet, You didn't give her extra medicine?? She said , Yes, you told me too! She's yelling outside the door...that was supposed to go home with the owner!! I confronted the Vet..."you overdosed my dog!!" She replied, She probably will be ok!? I brought in my puppy in and didnt have insurance but had the money for the services and even if she needed surgery which she did and she was denied any life saving treatment and they let her pass. if i could i would rate this place a 0 stars the doctor my puppy had did not try to save her by any way shape or form. her condition was savable and with surgery would've made a recovery but she was denied it. all she did was was put her down at only 4 months old. don't go here at all read more

when people come here, they are obviously in distress. The receptionist working at 10pm on 9-1-25 was rude, cold and dismissive when we called about our pet. "Take a number" is basically what she said. No kindness, no empathy. We've been here with other pets previously and it's always the same thing. It seems to be just a cash cow. Any sense of care or empathy is non existent. Since we got such terrible treatment over the phone tonight, we drove 45 minutes to the emergency vet in Bellingham. We made this choice because the phone experience was 180 degrees different--kind, empathic. They got us in immediately, as opposed to the 8-9 hour wait we were told we would have in Burlington. In summary, avoid the Burlington emergency vet if you possibly can. read more

Back in the Spring my dog needed to be seen for an emergency and I must have forgotten to review them. Well, after saving my cat last week I had to make sure I did. I took my cat in after showing symptoms of ingesting something he shouldn't have. I called every vet in the area with no luck for an appointment. Shortly after 1am, my husband and I made a 45 minute drive to get help for our cat. His heart rate was slow, he was cold, and was clearly dehydrated. My husband walked in and got him checked in. It wasn't very busy so it wasn't long before our vet technician came to check him out. She was super nice and straight forward, I loved that! We discussed treatment options with the vet after describing symptoms and her professional observation. Also, disclosing our recent emergency holiday travel expenses really threw off our budget. We would treat the symptoms. We watched for any warnings it was something worse. We are so happy we did, our cat was resting for the next 48-72 hours but was way more alert. As of today, he is standing on his couch swatting at his dog brother as he walks by. He is eating, drinking, and using his litter box. Thank you guys so much for helping my cat! You all honestly helped calm me down before receiving more devastating news just hours after getting home. I have no words. read more

I had an Emergency with my cat Olly, she was attacked by a raccoon and was badly injured. It was Saturday, all Vet places were booked or closed. One of the closed Vet office recording said if i have an Emergency to take it to the Pet Emergency Center in Mount Vernon or Lynwood VEG. I chose Mount Vernon. Everyone was friendly, compassionate ,and kind. I'm new to WA. I didn't realize that the round trip is over 70 miles. I took Olly back for a second time , but after I thought maybe I should go to Lynwood, it's a little bit closer. It was OK but nothing like the Pet Emergency Center at Mt. Vernon. So i went back, driving over 70 miles because PET EMERGENCY CENTER is the ABSOLUTE BEST.. The warm reception the minute one enters the facility is above what I experienced at the other place. Everyone is friendly and understanding. I would like to thank Dr Becky Callihan especially for her compassion and kindness . Dr. Callihan went above and beyond to help Olly . I would also like to thank all the Staff for the warm , friendly, kind , attitude that I experienced. THANK YOU There is no question that I will happily drive over 70 miles if ever an emergency occurs again. Good treatment for our dog, like most vets around Skagit/Snohomish county. However, the wait times. We called ahead, filled out forms online during the 35 minute drive. Arrived at 5:30am on Thursday, dog first seen at 9am, treatment room at 11am, paid at 2pm. That's right, 8 1/2 hours and just a guess on what's wrong with our dog. read more

I was traveling and one of my dogs was bitten by a spider or stung by a bee and had an allergic reaction. He was given two shots (one was a steroid and the other was a strong antihistamine. I honestly think he would have been fine with just the antihistamine. I wasn't happy with the bill (two shots cost $250.00). 24-hours later my dog lost his appetite due to a reaction to the steroids. He BM was dark red as his body processed the meds out of his system. I think this vet practice would be better with starting with one shot seeing how the reaction is. Is it enough and the dog out of danger? Next time, if this ever happens I will ask more questions. It's a challenge when you're fearful to question and make decisions. I recommend - ask questions. Don't accept everything they throw at you as treatment. Question everything. read more

Our beloved dog Billy was dying as we arrived at this hospital. We knew at 18 years old he was leaving us. The staff here was more than kind and compassionate. They examined Billy and gave us the bad news we expected and we opted to let him go over the rainbow bridge. To say we are heart broken is an understatement! But the hospital was so kind in sending us a nice sympathy card and when we got Billy's ashes back we were pleasantly surprised to see they had not only included an envelope with his fur but also a casting of his paw print. I brought my cat here exactly a week ago. I had taken him into a different facility the day prior to which they diagnosed my cat with asthma. I left with the radiology report in hand from his X-rays and feeling and telling that vet I did not feel like my cat had improved. Over the night my cat got worse and a week ago I took him to this emergency center. I called on my way explaining my cat was having trouble breathing, they calmly took my information and told me if he was worse by the time I arrived, to call them as I pulled him. I arrived and walked him in. Though there were multiple other animals in the office, they asked me if I had called and the vet tech/nurse who was in the lobby listening to the lungs of another animal, turned around and saw my cat and quickly took him back. It wasn't long before I was brought into a room and told my cat was in an oxygen chamber. The vet came in and we talked about what was going on. She said if she had read the same report from the other offices radiology report she would have also said it was asthma. But the fact that he was not improved and worsening meant it probably wasn't. They repeated X-rays and she came back and showed me and his lungs were significantly worse. He was actually in heart failure. My 13 year old cat wasn't going to make it to the 20+ years I dreamt of. As a human nurse - I was impressed with the urgency, the triage given to the animals, the response when I asked "should I be considering putting him down right now?" And the decency they provided throughout my visit when the decision was made to put my sweet boy down. The way the vet spoke to my cat, pet him and changed his body position to make myself and his body comfortable after passing was appreciated. I asked if he could be cremated and there was no hesitation. I was very impressed with the care my Studley received that day. I didn't expect for his passing walking in but I am comforted knowing how they addressed things and took care of my boy. read more

We had an emergency pet issue and we had to bring our injured Border Terrier in because he tangled with our Great Dane. He was messed up pretty good. Poor guy had his hind quarters ripped open. It was a very traumatic event. We have been there before. I knew going in the wait would be long. I also knew they care more about money than the animals themselves. I was reminded of that when the Doctor came out and tried to upsell me on extra tests and procedures. I was there to get the little guy stitched up, not have extensive blood tests for his bodily functions. Of course I declined those tests. They use people's emotions against them to sell unnecessary tests and procedures. People are more inclined to pay extra when they are worried about their sick or injured pets. Anyway they fixed up our little guy in about 5 hours and charged us a cool $1000 dollars. Yup $1000 scheckels or clams or whatever you call it. The wound was significant and I figured it would be north of $500 but not as high as it was. Reading other reviews I see they do this to everyone. They made sure to get my money before they did anything for my little buddy. I'm fortunate enough to be able to drop a grand on something without it hurting too much but I feel like this clinic puts the dollar ahead of caring for the pets. I will say the treatment of our boy and us was decent and they fixed him up pretty good. The only time things got gritty is when I was asking questions about the services estimate. I got the impression they don't like to be questioned. They mostly deal with tired and traumatized people and animals. That can't be easy. If they could have pretended they care more for the pets over money then there would be another star on this review. read more

My dog had a severe yeast infection. The itching was driving him crazy, it was spreading to his face and other body parts rapidly, he was vomiting and just plain miserable. Our regular vet was closed to we opted to ignore all the bad we'd heard about this place. BIG MISTAKE! Called them at 3pm, they said come on in and fill out the online form for registration on your way ( my wife filled it out while I drove). Got there and they said it would be about 3-4 hr wait, but, if we wanted to go back home they would call us. OK, fine, that's what we did. Finally after not hearing from them I called at around 8:30pm. They said oh yeah, come on in. Checked in and waited, and waited and waited some more. Around 10 pm the receptionist came over and said we were the next to be "roomed". 10:30 rolled around, still not roomed, but a guy came out of the back with his dog that we noticed from when we were there at 3pm, he said he could not wait any longer and had been there who knows how long, he'd been there before we got there, but he was there at least 7.5 hours and still had not seen a vet. We finally left at 11:15pm since we both had to get up at 4am to go to work. I do not recommend going here unless it's life or death for your pet and even then..... I understand a reasonable wait time but we essentially waited over 8 hrs. and still did not see a vet. It's not fair to the animal let alone the humans... Maybe, just maybe, they should hire a couple more vets.... I will never recommend this place or go back unless there is a severed artery involved. read more

I have several pets, and I have had to use Pet Emergency Center multiple times. There has been times when there's been hours before getting admitted, but the care has always been top notch. The staff all care greatly about the animals. In addition, the veterinarians are extremely knowledgeable, and can explain even complex issues in understandable language. They also have a certain no-nonsense approach. Are they expensive? It does add up, and it can get expensive. But it is an emergency hospital, and I assume that costs. I hope never to have to take another animal there, but if I do I know we will be well served. read more

This is my second review for PEC. They are absolutely amazing and i cannot put it into enough words. Yes, if you bring your animal in for something that is not life or death you will be waiting a while. But if your animal has something serious going on, they are 100% prioritized. I have now had to sadly put 2 dogs down this year. They were wonderful both times, which lead me to my first review, and now this one. They are caring, kind, and will treat your animal as their own. & THEYRE NOT GOING TO DRAIN YOUR BANK!!! The Vet Tech Becca came out right away to assess my kitty and make sure she was stable. Becca came back a bit later and got Willow when her breathing changed so they could monitor her inside while she waited her turn. Becca was so kind and thoughtful she came back out again to give me another update for peace of mind. I know my cat is just as important as all the other pets here in line for care, so I don't mind the wait. I cant say enough good things about this place. After work we came home and our dog's back legs were not functioning. We thought the worst and didn't know where to go. In a panic I called my vet who had this company on their voicemail when you call. The only 2 places we now knew we could go was here and pilchuck in snohomish. Well, if you have tried pilchuck for emergencies you know how much of a joke its become. IF ANYONE is even there and they will not go by severity. In my opinion they go by price. So we loaded up and headed here instead. On our way we called gave the office info and they told us to go online as well, if we were able, and fill out the questionnaire so they could look over her info for treatment. I thought this was great because instead of having to wait for the history they have it and can just go. I jumped outta the truck went to the front and was just ugly sobbing. I finally was able to squeeze out my doggo's name and within seconds I had 2 workers with an animal gurney cart and we were all headed out to the truck. We got her in the building and this I totally appreciated more than they could ever know, instead of just taking her right back and us watching space grow between us, they stopped and said they were gonna take her back make sure she was comfortable before anything else. They let me love my doggo and then they went back. Thankfully we were out into a room where I broke down and started ugly crying more. It wasn't long before we were updated that they gave our doggo some medicine in case she was in any pain and they were gonna do some x rays if that was ok. Thankfully the news was good, and they told us what they thought had happened and assured us if that was, she should start waking again in about 3-4 days. I mentioned I'd have to go try and find a sling for her back legs but that the pet stores were closed and they said they had one they could give us. This sling is such awesome quality too. Overall I am just so impressed, hoping we never have another emergency but if we do, knock on wood, this clinic is where I'll take my doggo and encourage anyone else too who has an emergency. Yes, it may be a bit of a longer drive but it is worth it . Thank you to the workers there who helped us bring our baby home. read more

We had the unfortunate situation of having to need a small animal vet on a Saturday night. The clinic seemed a bit unclean and very understaffed. Our guinea pig kept crashing and we had to hit the call button and wait and wait for staff to come back in the room. Since our guinea pig's heart kept stopping we had to make the hard decision to put her to sleep. The staff was heartless on how they did the procedure and was all about get the money and get us to wait outside in our car for them to bring us our dead guinea pig in a box. While the wait was long all the staff was so compassionate, kind and the doctors were very knowledgeable. We left him overnight and I felt confident in their care with my dog. These guys let us bring him in, and saw him within 30 minutes of getting there. They were all so caring and loving towards him and explained everything very clearly to us. We had only had our pup for 5 days, it was scary to have to leave him behind with them, but we felt comfort in doing so because how amazing the staff were. We knew they were good people and would do the best for him. We were quoted a low and high end of what his stay would cost, it ended up being over $100 UNDER the low end estimate. They let me call multiple times a day for updates, and sent us home with meds to give him and instructions for the next few days. I couldn't have asked for anymore. They were great. I can't explain how thankful I am they took him in, I was on the phone in tears of frustration watching this little puppy deteriorate and being told no over and over again. I came here because my dog had an infected uterus and needed emergency surgery (which we absolutely know because we were sent from our vet to this place after an ultrasound) 2. I needed to know how much cash to bring and Whoever answered the phone quoted me $1800-$2500 for surgery TODAY ... after seeing my dog they wanted $4200 and told me that nobody quoted that price and told me I'm lying cuz nobody would give an estimate on the phone! 3. I had to take my cat here over Memorial Day weekend and I was super impressed by the compassion of their staff! I could call anytime to check on my girl I know I got lucky and only had to wait for 15 minutes before being seen which I was told is very rare. My cat had to stay 2 nights, yes it was expensive because I didn't have pet insurance but according to googles average they were spot on, and they are upfront about cost and provide and estimate and mine was only $102 off the estimated price. If I could give them a negative score I would! We took our 12 year old cat in for trouble breathing, not eating or drinking and lethargic. They took chest X-rays and did a renal panel. They said it all was normal. They gave him an antibiotic for a possible cold and what I was told was an appetite stimulant and nose drops to help him breathe. After two days he got worse, except now he was confused. He would walk into walks, constantly pace, very weak limbs, not eating, drinking. I tried calling them two times. Was told to just call back when they were less busy, like he was not an emergency. We decided to go to central Whidbey veterinary to see Dr. Moody. Upon looking at his medication he was give double appetite stimulants which causes anxiety and mental confusion so he was over dosed while also having a reaction to the medication causing mental confusion also. The antibiotic was not one that was normally given to cats. When dr. Moody looked at the chest X-ray he showed me the beginning of pneumonia. So he went from Wednesday to Saturday basically without treatment. He also had a bladder infection that was missed by the emergency clinic too. Today, Sunday, just a week after being sick and 5 days after seeing the emergency clinic, we had to let our boy go to the rainbow bridge. I am livid! Medical malpractice at its finest. You all aren't fit treat animals. Just shoving medication and animals out the door to make more money. I will make sure no one goes to you again! read more

Find another Emergency Vet! This place is terrible. I arrived at 7:15am with nobody else in the parking lot or inside so I thought great, this won't be too long of a wait. A little before 9am I was told it would be an hour or two. I said I would wait since I live 30min away so it didn't make sense to drive home and then right back. I napped in the car for a bit since I only had 4 hours of sleep. Finally at 3 I went in to ask for an update. I was told they were finishing up and it wouldn't be much longer. At 5:24pm I finally got my cat back...in someone else's cat carrier. They didn't find any real issue claiming their machine wasn't working properly. So I waited 10 hours for no real diagnosis but a whopping $450 bill. They offered to do some more testing for another $200. Yeah no thanks, already wasted enough of my time and money. Today I realized they didn't give me back my vet paperwork that I had given them to show the cat's history. I gave them a call, they managed to lose or shred the paperwork so now I have to contact the previous vets and pay to get replacement documents. I understand they probably get busy and have pets in need of more urgent care but even a quick phone call for an update would be great. Overall I didn't get the feeling that these people have any respect for your time or bank account. If I could give less than one star I would! read more
