    Barely responsive cat

Back in the Spring my dog needed to be seen for an emergency and I must have forgotten to review them. Well, after saving my cat last week I had to make sure I did. I took my cat in after showing symptoms of ingesting something he shouldn't have. I called every vet in the area with no luck for an appointment. Shortly after 1am, my husband and I made a 45 minute drive to get help for our cat. His heart rate was slow, he was cold, and was clearly dehydrated. My husband walked in and got him checked in. It wasn't very busy so it wasn't long before our vet technician came to check him out. She was super nice and straight forward, I loved that! We discussed treatment options with the vet after describing symptoms and her professional observation. Also, disclosing our recent emergency holiday travel expenses really threw off our budget. We would treat the symptoms. We watched for any warnings it was something worse. We are so happy we did, our cat was resting for the next 48-72 hours but was way more alert. As of today, he is standing on his couch swatting at his dog brother as he walks by. He is eating, drinking, and using his litter box. Thank you guys so much for helping my cat! You all honestly helped calm me down before receiving more devastating news just hours after getting home. I have no words.

We had an emergency pet issue and we had to bring our injured Border Terrier in because he tangled with our Great Dane. He was messed up pretty good. Poor guy had his hind quarters ripped open. It was a very traumatic event. We have been there before. I knew going in the wait would be long. I also knew they care more about money than the animals themselves. I was reminded of that when the Doctor came out and tried to upsell me on extra tests and procedures. I was there to get the little guy stitched up, not have extensive blood tests for his bodily functions. Of course I declined those tests. They use people's emotions against them to sell unnecessary tests and procedures. People are more inclined to pay extra when they are worried about their sick or injured pets. Anyway they fixed up our little guy in about 5 hours and charged us a cool $1000 dollars. Yup $1000 scheckels or clams or whatever you call it. The wound was significant and I figured it would be north of $500 but not as high as it was. Reading other reviews I see they do this to everyone. They made sure to get my money before they did anything for my little buddy. I'm fortunate enough to be able to drop a grand on something without it hurting too much but I feel like this clinic puts the dollar ahead of caring for the pets. I will say the treatment of our boy and us was decent and they fixed him up pretty good. The only time things got gritty is when I was asking questions about the services estimate. I got the impression they don't like to be questioned. They mostly deal with tired and traumatized people and animals. That can't be easy. If they could have pretended they care more for the pets over money then there would be another star on this review.

Coastal rivers were the attending clinic under vet de jong. 2 days ago we did a checkup as the operation was unsuccessful for the cherry eye under vet de jong's care. Once at the appt we started to ask questions like Any ordinary furry puppy owner would ask: 1. Why did the operation fail? 2. What in your experience as a vet could be done? 3. Have you done many surgeries of this type ? 4. What is your vet experience? 5. If operated again would you seek out a senior vet's help for the procedure? .... Guess what? This is what she answered: "None of your business!!!!!" The vet actually said it's not our concern!!!! She knew we were fostering and were to adopt and Yes to the contrary it is our business to learn more about future procedures and her knowledge of this type of serious operation. After doing more research we found advice from actual animal eye surgeons called othmatology vets...... yes there are actually 2-3 clinics in the lower mainland that does this specialty and this vet was not a specialist so we wanted to know her skills. She lost it got triggered form us asking her serious questions and actually kidnapped the dog right from our hands and ran into the back. My wife and I didn't know what to do we were stunned! We found out after 10 mins and from this horrible vet De Jong that she called the spca and they must have told her to return the dog to us! Please avoid this Vet she treated us awfully and could not Handle us asking detailed questions about the surgery in the future. Why did she do this? Why was she so triggered? Being a young vet concludes that she Definitely needs more training and for sure more counselling and we will never ever go back to this clinic. Horrible! Hopefully Dr Taylor you read this And choose to Respond to us and reach out to tell your vet De jong to apologize?

It was so helpful to be around such a caring individual at the worst moment of my life. We had taken Penny in once before, and my husband and I both appreciated the set up of the clinic - you can see your animal being cared for and be with them every second. We didn't ever stay overnight with Penny during a hospitalization, but what an amazing thing to be able to be with them the whole time. Other emergency vets aren't like that. Thank you, VEG!

She had been scratching around her eyes, and had developed some scratches that were inflamed. Ultimately, she was prescribed antibiotics, with a proposed eye dye. The medical director was my treating vet, and she explained why the eye dye was suggested, but not required. In an expensive time, I'm very appreciative that they didn't push for an unnecessary test. She and the team all had great bedside manner. Yes, the wait was a bit long, but it wasn't through any fault of the staff; multiple stat cases had come in and understandably, skin irritation wasn't at the top of the to-do list. Also, they did let me know up front that it would be a bit of a wait, so again, good communication. While I hope I never have to take my baby into an emergency vet, I would definitely come back to VEG.

When they took Boo in the back to remove the bent & infected claw they did say an x-ray might be necessary depending on what they found on removal. We were pleasantly surprised it wasn't.
