The staff was amazing, they cared for him (and me!) and he was patched up and ready to go home. My fur baby was panting in pain and couldn't walk and we were unable to figure out why. Naturally, it was a Saturday night and his regular vet was closed. Took him into Animal Emergency Clinic in O'Fallon and they were quick to help me get my 70lb boy on a stretcher and off to be examined by the vet. They were busy and had several very acute cases. They professionally juggled sick and injured pets while comforting emotional parents. I was there several hours, but that is to be expected. The wait was actually very comfortable, there were vending machines for drinks and food as well as clean restroom facilities. The vet kept me regularly updated. My boy needed blood work and imaging, all available there. He was sent home with the medication he needed and a solid plan of care until he could be seen by his regular vet. The services were reasonably priced considering it's emergency care. I feel like they were fiscally cautious when choosing the diagnostics for my pet. If you feel you could wait until business hours you'll obviously spend less at your regular vet, but unfortunately accidents and unexpected illnesses happen and I'm grateful we have great emergency care close to home. The vet we saw was outstanding in his recommendations and I have confidence in the care received. Turns out my old man has a bad back, thankfully he's doing well. We will definitely use this Emergency Clinic again if needed. read more

Went there on an emergency situation as my cat starting to collapse in the morning due to weakness while awaiting our appointment which won't be until the following week. They are very supportive. They took my cat in right away and when they found out they couldn't do much about it they were very honest about the situation and did not run unnecessary tests to waste my money but referred us right away to another place that could possibly help. Even offered a towel for my cat to stay warm and comfortable in his kennel as I totally did think about it because I was freaking out and beyond worried. Definitely recommend them read more

I took my cat there because I thought he had a UTI. After examining him, the vet met with me to discuss her findings and my options. Exam showed no obvious signs, so I was advised I could just take him home with some medication that would soothe his tummy, or have bloodwork or other tests done to rule out other issues. I elected to have the bloodwork done, just in case, which also came up negative. I did not feel pressure to have anything done, appreciate the straightforward way it was presented, and was happy that I went ahead with the bloodwork, knowing that it ruled other things out. All the staff were very pleasant, and the icing on the cake was when I received a text message this morning from the clinic asking how he was doing. Animal Emergency Clinic 334 Fort Zumwalt Square, O'Fallon, MO 63366 This past Saturday we had to rush out 3-year-old English Bulldog to an Emergency Vet because she was turning purple and was unable to breath. The vet immediately came out and took her back and told us we had to wait, and she would be back to see us shortly. The first time the vet came out she had asked me if we would want her revived if she coded and I told her absolutely. My daughter and I were distraught because this had never happened before. They put her into an oxygen "tank", ice packed her down and gave her a sedative hoping to slow her breathing. They allowed us to come back and see her, and she was still struggling to breathe. We discussed options and the vet worked up an estimate for us. I immediately agreed that whatever was needed over the next 24 hours we were onboard with. We were then able to go back and see her again and she was starting to look much better. Her face and gums were looking pinker. We could tell that every time we came back and that we were keeping her from resting because when she saw or heard us, she would have her little tail wag and then try to get up. I paid the requested amount of 75% of the estimate before leaving and they assured me they would call me if anything changed during the evening. When the vets shift had ended, she called and gave me a run down on what was going on with our Gretta and that she was resting comfortably and was able to get off the oxygen she had been on. I called during the night to check on her and then at 6am I got a call saying that all the other tests they did came back negative of any concerns. When we got there to pick her up, they had filled a prescription for her to take when she gets anxious. They went over the care they had provided and answered any questions we had and then before leaving they had refunded us a third of what we had paid because the extra services that were in the estimate did not all have to take place. I certainly hope I never have to use an emergency vet ever again but if we do, I will not hesitate to go back to this facility. Thank you for the wonderful care you provided. read more

I called to get some advice on what to do for my elderly dog as she had a bone and was throwing up everywhere. They said I should come in just to be safe so it is exactly what I did. They examined my pet and she was given a few injections as well as some fluids and medication to take home. The medication was a slurry which was an added bonus as she hates pills. I am so thankful they were open and could help me with my animal emergency. It was also a fast process-- could've taken forever. Again I appreciate them so much! read more

Animal Emergency Clinic 334 Fort Zumwalt Square, O'Fallon, MO 63366 We wanted to share our experience with our fur-baby Tank Schwartz-Tieman. This was the WORST, MOST traumatic, brutal and upsetting way we had to say goodbye to our VERY loved fur-family member. We understand the main goal is to always save an animals life. We brought our Tank in with what we were told was bloat, which if that was an accurate diagnosis he had been suffering with it for 24 hours. Tank was an 11 year old lab-great dane mix, he had OBVIOUS muscle wasting (as even the staff noticed before we got him out of the truck), he had lumps all over (which our vet had already ran tests on and they were not cancer) and obviously was not in the best of health. We met with the Vet - who told us it was probably bloat and she proceeded right into a surgery pitch. We felt immediate pressure to do the surgery. We were quiet and so she said we should do X-Rays and bloodwork to see if there is anything else going on. We did agree to that without hesitation. She then started talking about surgery plans telling us there "MIGHT" be complications - Um ... Yes he is an 11 year old giant breed unhealthy pup! We did not agree in the end to the surgery and as she got up to walk out the door she turned around and said "No guilt if you dont do the surgery" it was VERY much an afterthought. They then brought him back to us and we made the hardest decision. The vet brought in the supplies, my husband and I were on the floor with Tank. I noticed that about 1/2 way thru his leg started to swell and balloon up from the injections. When the Dr noticed that I was seeing it, she stopped and said they would need to put another line in. Tank was laying there, high on morphine and 1/2 of the euthanasia drugs. He began freaking out not knowing what was happening. In our minds we were having to hold him down while they tried unsuccessfully to place another line in another leg, on the other leg they finally got it in. Now Tank is still freaking out, but getting sleepy and confused, there is blood all over the floor, along with shaved hair, and then he was gone. It was NOT peaceful, it was AWFUL, the WORST experience that noone should EVER have to go thru. We left there without our best friend and with our final memory being disturbing. We felt guilt, shame and despair. On TOP of the cost of the X-Rays & bloodwork we were NEVER even told the results, so now we are questioning if they were even done, OR was it even bloat? We WERE impressed with 1 of the techs, she offered us care, compassion and helped us manage our guilt. She also offered to help transfer his ashes if we found a Hippo Urn. We have had 2 past experiences here that were positive and peaceful, HOWEVER after this we will NEVER be back. There are just NO EXCUSES for the series of events that occured. read more

Took my cat to this place and waited over 3 hours bc there is only one vet at this er clinic. She was in surgery. I get that. When the vet was out of surgery, the vet didn't even come in to exam my cat, Sammy. She sent in a nurse with an estimate on the cost to sign and without even examining her and only seeing a report that I brought in from my cats vet from 2 months ago, said "it sounds like a bladder infection." Duh. What would have happened if I didn't have that report? I told the nurse I wasn't signing anything and wanted the vet to actually examine my cat in front of me. The nurse returned and said the vet wanted to stay with the animal she had surgery on (I've seen 4 other staff members in the office that could have stood by that animal for 5 minutes)and the vet said she wanted to do an ultrasound - she never even saw my cat! My cat had a freaking fever, having problems peeing and when she does it has blood in it and the vet couldn't tear herself away for 5 minutes to examine my cat. The nurse then asked if she could take my cat back for an ultrasound. I insisted on seeing the vet to actually examine my cat in front of me, which she never did. The nurse returned again said the vet wanted to stay with the other animal. I missed 5+ hours of work to not even see OR speak to the vet, or her examine my cat. I was pretty pissed. I asked the nurse for a number/email to file a complaint bc this is ridiculous. Then shocker, the vet shows up. I don't understand why this is an emergency clinic and only one vet. I'll never take my pet there again. I was sent home with my cat, pain meds and kitty Valium for my cat and a script for prescription food. Oh, yeah...my cat did NOT have a bladder infection. She has crystals in her urine. I will say that it is mainly my fault for taking my cat there bc I have to use CareCredit credit card to pay and this is one of 2 er clinics here that take it. I was told the other place has a longer wait. read more

Horrible experience at this place, I took my dog at this clinic because he couldn't walk on his right leg but he could limp off his left leg, they told us he would get better soon and gave him an injection to relax his muscles but made him completely paralyzed and couldn't walk, his feet were flipped over and he couldn't move them back and couldn't feel them. They told us he was paralyzed and needed to get surgery. The surgery was extremely expensive for a dog and me and my family tried to see what other options we had, The staff and doctors were completely unprofessional they clearly didn't know what they were doing they didn't even offer getting a X-ray and didnt even explain what was going on with him. These doctors and staff clearly don't know how there actions can affect us. I don't know how people would even trust the staff with their pets. There is no coincidence that there are other cases exactly like my dogs. This clinic was terrible we don't recommend you trusting them with your pets. read more

I hope everyone reads this story before EVER going here. I had the worst experience with Dr. Lorde at AEC. I have been a Vet Tech throughout my life and have never been talked down to, had the run around or been so mad at another veterinary professional in my career. Let me explain. I brought my 4 year old cat BB here after he was urinary blocked for an overnight stay with monitoring and fluids after already having a IV catheter and a urinary catheter in place surgically at a different hospital. After getting a quote for $300 for a 24 hour stay with monitoring and fluids overnight I said my goodbyes and dropped him off. He had been there for 20 minutes, I hadn't even made it home yet, before they called me saying his urinary catheter wasn't flowing and was probably blocked and needed surgery to replace it with a LARGER rubber catheter. I informed them that his bladder was FULLY expressed less than an hour ago so there wouldn't be any flow as his bladder was 100% empty. She then informed me that it was the wrong size and needed a longer more comfortable catheter and she was just looking out for the best interest and comfort of the patient. I called my primary vet and informed them off the new and the suggested that my cat be placed on fluids and see if the catheter flowed because he was empty and hadn't had any fluids to flow aka empty bladder. Dr. Lorde then backpeddled AGAIN and said that it might not be blocked but that he'd be more comfortable with a larger rubber catheter. I asked her how it would be more comfortable for my cat to have him put under anesthesia a second time that day just to replace something that was already working. After a back and forth with Dr. Lorde and having to FIRMLY state that I don't want my cat having a second surgery and to just have him get fluids for a few hours to see if the catheter is really blocked or he's just empty she finally conceded and said she'd call me back with a estimate for that. After getting a call and a quote for $600 (double what I was originally quoted), I informed her I was not comfortable leaving my cat in their care and wished to take him home and monitor him myself overnight and take him back to my primary vet in the morning for Fluid therapy, medication and continued care. She told me I couldn't get my cat back, and refused to release him to me. Excuse me? I've taken care of cats like this my whole career and am perfectly capable of watching my own cat for a few hours until the vet I trusted was open again and can continue care. Dr. Lorde's reasoning for not releasing my own cat to me was that she couldn't release him with a IV catheter in and a urinary catheter in. I informed her AGAIN that I was a veterinary professional myself and know the risks of taking him home and would be more comfortable caring for him myself. She again REFUSED to give me my own animal back. At this point I am in tears and furious. I call my primary vet again and inform her of the situation and said that I can sign a AMA (Against Medical Advice Form) and can take him home after that so the clinic is liable. Called Dr. Lorde back and informed her I would like to do so and she then again refused to give me my animal because of his catheters in place, I told her it made no sense to have both removed (painfully) just to have them reinserted first thing the next morning, it was unnecessary pain and stress to my cat to have to put him through that. Dr. Lorde again refused. I had to call my vet at 9:00pm to get them to call AEC and Dr. Lorde and basically tell them that I'm competent enough to care for my own animal and that he will be in my primary vets care in the morning. She finally had to concede. Drove 30 minutes to pick him up just wait in the parking lot for another 30 minutes for them to bring him out. When I finally get him, they put him in the front seat, set a "bladder flush bag" on top of his carrier, shut the door and walk away. They never had me sign an AMA, never gave me any discharge. He came home totally unwrapped and his cath line detached. Never again. read more

Had to bring my cat in because she could not stand up and move her legs. From the receptionist to the doctor I experienced so much compassion. We ended up euthanizing my cat and the compassion caused continued. We wanted to bury her and because it was the middle of the night they kept her there. Agree with other reviews: avoid this place if possible. Seems as if someone could open another Vet across the street they would do really well. On a Sunday, I had to wait over two hours to just SEE a doctor. Can I simply pay, and get other things done, as there is nothing worse than waiting that long to see what needs to be done. My dog had a laceration on her head. So, they stitched it and put a drain in. After I signed consent I left her there and didn't pick her up till around 2-3 p.m. (for stitches and a drain) FF to Wednesday and drain removal. My dog had scratched the drain out, and I just wanted to make sure nothing of the drain was left, I talked to the tech (granted on the phone) and she talked about putting her under sedation again if I wanted and doing "exploratory" surgery which is obviously nonsense. I pulled her from their care and made an appointment immediately with her normal vet at Elm point as she deserves better care. AVOID if possible, I'm told Webster ER has a better system and this would have been a better option, as we live in St Charles. You can pay them and leave if there is wait time. (Again, it was a laceration that needed to be stitched so my dog was not critical but it needed to be fixed.) in addition, they nicked her scalp and ear area with the shaver, and I'm not happy about that. read more

My kid's one year old puppy had a fall down the stairs. Very traumatic experience for everyone. Her hip was dislocated. One of the only places open on a late Sunday night we brought her ASAP. They took amazing care of her over night. They adjusted her hip. Warned me about surgery if it happens again and most importantly the surprise bill was affordable. I've heard horror stories of $2000 bills for such emergencies. This was less than half that at $850. I am very please with this facility. They even called to check up on her. read more

We brought our dog in on a Sunday afternoon for an allergic reaction. The tech and vet were incredibly friendly and informative, and we were seen quickly. Our dog was given three injections, and they kept us for about an hour to monitor her swelling. The clinic had vending machines, a coffee bar, and restrooms available while we waited, which was such a nice touch! With an emergency vet, I expected a high price tag, but our bill was just over $200. Went there on 12/16 at 7 pm. Was told to check in on phone. I called, someone said they'd be right with me to check me in, and was placed on hold for 25+ minutes and. I called on my other (work) phone to find out the issue, the person took down my name and number and said they'd call me right back to get me checked in. In the meantime, I called another vet practice after hours and got in right away. Now it's 2 days later and they never called me back to check me in. Do yourself a favor, don't go to this place. My golden mix was having seizures after vet hours. My vet did answer the phone and said to take Harry to this animal hospital. They are awesome. They promptly came out and carried Harry in on a stretcher. Dr was in contact with me right away with Harry's condition and plan of action. They got going on him right away. He was released the next day in perfect health with a bottle of meds. What was even more heart warming was when I couldn't get a refill for Harry right away, they gave me another 60 pills to hold him over until we could get his prescription filled. After having to go in late we were floored at the compassion of Dr. Nagel. She was professional, understanding, loving, and we genuinely feel that she wanted what was best for my partners cat. I am a rescuer, and know a lot of people in the animal community and will be recommending her to anyone with an emergency. My kitten managed to get a hold of a sleeping pill that was likely stuck under our stove for who knows how long. She threw up and thought I saw something white in there...20 minutes later she couldn't even stand up. I drove as fast as I could to get her there. I walked in and they took her limp little body out of arms as soon as I walked in and took her back. They gave me a high/low estimate and the cost was within those limits. Dr. Brown came out and talked to me, and then brought her back out to me because she needed to stay the night for treatment...he was very kind explained everything. Dr. Erbe update us twice the following day and also, very compassionate. I would highly recommend. For the negative reviews..maybe it depends on the vet...and the time of day. People have to realize that this is emergency clinic...so when I walk in with my kitten that is practically unresponsive...they will be seen before a dog or cat that needs stitches or threw up once or twice. It is just like an ER for people...the most life threatening cases get seen first...Also..yep, emergency clinics are expensive...they all are. So you really can't give one or two stars because you had to wait, or pay the fee that is on the very first piece of paper you signed...it's just not fair. I am an ICU nurse and bedside manner is great (all doctors don't have it) but in the end all that matters is if they help your fur baby. I have no doubt that my kitten very likely could have died last night with out their swift treatment. Sadly, I only remember Courtney by name but all of the ladies there that took care of her and watched over her were just amazing.
