I wouldn't recommend anyone to take their beloved pet to see Dr. Meredith. He has been my GrandDog eye doctor for three years and totally missed an issue with her that caused her to go blind. Oh he's great for telling you what breed is prone to what....but if you said she had something, and not check both of her eyes and not catch something that could have been treated and she not be blind today would have been great. Dr. Meredith did a half ass exam on my GrandDog and asked a stupid ass question, when was the last time we saw her? January 5th, 2026. He full of shit and another practice need to come in and close his shit down. He don't give a fuck unless he can fuck you out of money. read more

Our senior Shih Tzu began having recurring corneal ulcers & our regular vet referred us to Dr. Meredith. We drove the nearly 2 hrs for the first appointment, he diagnosed the problem & got started on treatment. The ulcers healed and didn't return, but she had some underlying age-related problems he also diagnosed that led to her mostly losing her eyesight (and we knew that would likely happen.) We were still able to keep her comfortable far longer than we would have otherwise. Dr Meredith and his team were fantastic for the 18 months or so that we treated there, with multiple follow up visits and my calls with questions. My vet was pleased with their office notes after the visits as well. I would recommend them for anyone needing a "doggie opthalmologist," and we appreciated the care and concern we were shown every time we were there. read more

We have a Shih Tzu that has had some significant eye issues and have been seeing Dr. Meredith at Animal Eye Associates for a few years. Dr. Merideth is wonderful! He has been seeing our dog from the beginning of his eye issues. He diagnosed the problem quickly and made recommendations for the next steps. We continue to take our dog here for regular check ups to make sure all is well with his eyes. Our Shih Tzu's eyes are not perfect, but he can still see because of Dr. Merideth and Animal Eye Associates. They are kind, caring and knowledgeable! Waste of time and money I am not impressed with your clinic at all. I basically wasted 287 $, just to come out with less knowledge "given" than I already had before getting there. Mostly spent my time sitting around in the lobby and the treatment room than having a professional to talk to, which is why I came. My dog Haile has a soft fibrous growth behind his right eye. I know he does, because 1) I have seen it close up many times, and 2) the veterinarian at my regular vet clinic took it out in surgery some time ago, and there is a report of that. She sutured the spot, behind the eyelid, during surgery. Now it seems to be growing in the tissue pocket and not coming out from under the eyelid anymore. What that tells me is, that since the other vet was able to suture the spot under the eyelid, it means there is access to it without damaging the eye ball. Your doctor said it could not be taken away without loss of the eye! The next best thing was to suggest Haile should have cranial surgery at Specialty Veteriarians Clinic, with cutting open the side of the skull! Nothing less! Wow! My doggie is 17 years old! And to top things off, your doctor came out with the possibility of it being a cancer! Is that always the first assumption, without having investigated the situation? The doctor in my regular office already ruled that out, it was in the file. Scare tactics, anyone?? And that was it, no better advice or good ideas. If things were right, I should get my money back. I also felt like I was the guinea pig for the technician to learn how to fill out his form, and for the student doctor in the room, who repeated for her training every gesture the doctor did to examine my dog. That was by far the major part of my entire time there! That was about all I got. I would not recommend them to anyone! read more

When my pup developed a "cherry eye" and surgery was needed, I wanted someone with lots of experience. What better than a vet that specializes in eyes? I had a great experience from the very beginning when I called for an estimate. I didn't get the normal "You'll have to come in before we can do that". Since it was a clear diagnosis from my normal Banfield vet, they were able to talk numbers allowing me to call around and compare. I didn't, though, because I wanted a specialist and cost was secondary. Everyone was so friendly and made sure I had all the info I wanted. They were even patient with me having to reschedule due to meetings at work. The only negative for me, and this is nothing but a slight unpleasantness, is that you can tell the receptionist smokes and you can smell it when you're at her window. She's super nice, though, just needs a little Febreeze on the way back from her smoke break. read more

Dr. Merideth and his team are amazing. He is incredibly knowledgeable and does a great job explaining things in an easy to understand manner. My dog suffered from glaucoma, and when we had an eye emergency, he stayed late to squeeze us in and be seen. He provided me medication and education that I needed, and when it came to making difficult decisions, he never passed judgement and was incredibly empathetic. I was referred by my vet because my dog's corneas looked visibly different than they had at his last visit. I read several reviews before putting my doggie's well being in someone else's hand. I chose to make the appointment & considered myself informed. I found this place to be everything the reviews said it would be. The staff is not the friendliest including the doctor. While he is unquestionably knowledgable about his specialty, his bed side manner is as appealing as a root canal. I have had the misfortune of having to make a visit here twice & both experiences were the same. To boot, the office is difficult to locate as it is hidden in a strip mall & is easily lost amongst all of the other stores. read more

My dog had scratched her eye on something but didn't seem bothered until after it started to heal. Dr Johnson said that he didn't think she needed surgery. (He also said he couldn't do the surgery but would recommend another vet if I decided to go that route. It was evident he was afflicted with Parkinsons as his hands shook terribly. He had to use a microphone to record his thoughts bc he couldn't write or type on a keyboard.) While I am sympathetic of his condition, wasting my time and money going to a specialist who could only diagnose - wrongly - and not treat was frustrating bc my dog was no better off for it. After another assessment at the Blue Pearl Vet Hospital in Chesterfield, it was recommended that her eye be removed. I was relieved when she came out of surgery as happy and squirrelly as ever. Looking back, I wonder if Dr Johnson's diagnosis had anything to do with his inability to hold a scalpel. Just something to consider if you take your dog there. read more

We adopted a Bichon Frise in March knowing that he had cataracts. I brought him to Animal Eye Associates for an exam and after having Dr. Johnson examine him, we scheduled him for surgery. Through surgery, Dr. Johnson was able to correct the left eye with a lens but his right eye also involved a detached retina and therefore could not be corrected. To quote Dr. Johnson, "it would be cleaning a window for a blind man." I found Dr. Johnson and his staff to be very professional, knowledgeable and courteous. At the same time, Dr. Johnson was extremely friendly, patient and through when we asked him many questions. I would also like to say that his prices were extremely reasonable when we checked with other clinics in the area. I am totally confused about the bad reviews for this vet. He was so charming and sweet, and very knowledgeable about my cat's eye problem. When he was explaining something to me and I asked him to tone it down to my language, he just smiled and explained what he just said in simple terms so I could understand. My husband and I visited AEA yesterday with our dog, P, who was having some minor eye issues, and I was honestly blown away with the staff and service. I was warned both by friends and the internet that the doctor and reception staff were "not the nicest," but we had the complete opposite experience. Dr. Johnson was actually very friendly and informative, and spent about 35 minutes in the exam room with us explaining P's condition and answering the 20394892348 questions we had about his poor little bloody dog eye (he is totally fine, by the way). Dr. Johnson is extremely knowledgeable, and I felt much better about everything after leaving, because he was able to communicate the problem to us in a way that we (typical, run of the mill morons when it comes to dog ophthalmology) could understand. The receptionist was honestly probably one of the friendliest I have ever met (and I have worked in reception/managed reception staff for almost 10 years), and we were taken back to our exam room within probably 90 seconds of checking in. Plus, as others have said, we were pleasantly surprised at how affordable everything was. The only slight problem we had was that AEA is a bit hard to find, as it doesn't have an overhead sign that is visible from Woodlawn OR Manchester (or the parking lot). But for anyone curious, it's in the same plaza as 24 Hour Fitness and Great Clips, on the Oberweis side (if that's even still there-who knows, cow's milk is gross). I'm really glad that I didn't listen to other pet parents who told me to avoid this place-we had an excellent experience! Maybe I would be singing a different tune if P had had a more extensive problem, but I know where I'll be returning if that issue ever comes up. read more

I went to Dr. Johnson with my female Jack Russell She had poor site because of diabetes I thought he was one of the best His bedside manor is nothing to speak about but if he did a good job that is all that mattered At first he told us not to do surgery but when I took her back in he said he thought he could do the surgery The day of procedure they told us the cost only to find out when we came to pick her up it was quite a bit less They had only had success on one eye and supposedly could not get the lense in correctly I was not told this over the phone post op They acted like everything had gone as expected From there it was problem after problem with her eyes Not only could she not see better I think her eyes were worse I took her in many times and he would make comments like "this is why I don't operate on 14 year old dogs" I told him she was 12 when she had the surgery and was not even 14 as of yet I had to seek my regular vets advice and attention and he did better with her eyes than Dr Johnson I am now spending even more money at another eye specialist who is much better and says she has operated on 15 year old dogs I sent Dr Johnson a letter trying to work something out with no call or any type of communication from him or his office I feel very strongly that I should have never taken my dog to this vet and that he did a very poor job on my dogs eyes read more

My pet was referred here from his regular vet. I had no problem getting an appointment quickly, but had to take off work as there are not office hours outside standard work hours. I missed the office on the first trip as it is hidden in a shopping center. The doctor took us in on schedule. His personality was dry, but I did not find him to be nearly as rough as some other reviews have stated. He explained the issue thoroughly and presented a few different treatment options. He recommended trying a cheaper treatment first even though there was only a 50/50 chance of it working. Thankfully it did work and I did not have to pay for expensive surgery. read more

Our issue was a frenchie with a non healing corneal ulcer. My regular vet had tried antibiotic and serum treatment and saw the next step as debridement. I trust my vet but when it came to eyes, I was interested in someone who performed eye procedures regularly. Our vet recommended Dr. Johnson. Found the staff very friendly. Dr. Johnson was personable, professional and conservative in his approach to care. Turned out by the time we saw him, the ulcer had finally almost completely healed. But it was relief to have him confirm that. And that no procedure would be needed, just a bit more time. read more

I brought my chihuahua Poncho in because his general vet said his cataracts were getting worse and he was at risk for glaucoma. I braced myself for the possibility of surgery and made the appointment. The staff here is very friendly and I saw the doctor almost immediately. Dr. Johnson was great with Poncho. He checked his eyes and took high resolution photos to show me what he was seeing. He took the time to explain what everything meant in terms I understood. Unfortunately, Poncho's blindness was not caused by cataracts and surgery was not a beneficial option. However, Dr. Johnson explained all of this to me clearly and let me know that Poncho's risk for developing glaucoma was low at this point and that he's not uncomfortable. I think sometimes people expect miracles from vets and specialists, but if there's nothing that can be done, and you've been given all the information, what more can be expected of them? I appreciated that he told me what the reality of the situation was. No sugar coating. I walked out of there informed and Poncho is still a happy little guy. read more

My dog , Layla was completely blind from cataracts., it was so hard watching her struggle to get around We made an appointment with Dr. Johnson and within 10 days she had her surgery. We are so grateful for the expertise and compassion we received. Her eyes were so bad that only one could be done because of the length time she was asleep. After one week she began to see. I'm so happy my vet referred me here! Dr. Johnson is wonderful with my dog and very informative and patient with me and my questions. My dog had diabetic cataracts and now he can see again. We just had our second follow up visit and he's experienced no complications. Nothing makes an anxious dog person happier than to see the eye vet smile while examining her dog. I only gave one star because at least 1 was required to post a review. I am unable to even give one star, because we were never able to be seen for my dog's emergency. My dog was seen by Kirkwood Animal Hospital for a red and swollen eye and after several visits, we wanted to see an eye specialist. I called Animal Eye Associates on a Monday and they could not see us until the following Friday. I broke down crying, saying that my dog's eye was getting worse each day and fogging over and I feared for her sight. I literally begged the receptionist to talk to the doctor to see if there was any possible way to get my dog in as soon as possible. With no empathy whatsoever, she just told me flat out "No, we do not have anything available before then." If this were a company that truly cared for animals, they would have done what they could to fit in my dog and they wouldn't be okay with waiting 5 more days to look at a rapidly growing problem. The receptionist did not even try. We found another wonderful eye doctor at Midwest Veterinary Referral Center who allowed us to walk in that day, fit my dog in when she had some time, and has taken amazing care of my girl.
