We had adopted 2 small dogs from AFRP ... wonderful experience...and anyone who questions the cost of adoption...shouldn't.... The costs of caring for an animal in the rescue facility grows daily as they're in there, plus any medical costs they've incurred... They are the kindest people... our Ozzie loved going in to visit every time we walked by and they were open. Adopt a rescue !!

I love the bios they include for the animals!

After filling out the online form, I called AFRP to ask about a four month old puppy. After leaving a voicemail they got back to me within 24 hours. I'm very excited to adopt a dog and although the puppy I was inquiring about was already spoken for... I look forward to coming here to adopt! They have super friendly staff and are taking the proper precautions to allow you to meet the animals

Very happy with my experience here. As a long time pet owner and having worked at an animal hospital, I have been around a lot of these non profit adoption agency's. I am very impressed with this one. My Girlfriend and I have stopped by with interest of adopting a new kitten. Each time all of the volunteers have been very helpful and friendly. Today, my girlfriend and I came in with interest and left with a new pat pal. Again, the staff could not of been better. Took out each cat for us and knew them all very well. We are very happy with our experience and love our new furry buddy!! Update: 2 years later we adopted another kitten from AFRP and yet again, had a wonderful experience. I have to say I am very impressed with how the staff must socialize with their animals. We love our cat bob, and our new addition is just as cuddly and social. Great spot to rescue your new pet pal!

I adopted my first 2 (1 past away) cats here at AFRP Pacific Grove. It's a no kill rescue and all the animals that are here are lucky and loved by all the employees. My 2 (now 1) cats are seriously like dogs, they are so social and loving. Atari greets us with his belly up every day, actually multiple times a day. I highly suggest visiting this rescue if you are looking for a new non-human family member :). Btw - I hope that cute a$$ sweet dog was adopted by a good family :(. I eventually want a dog.

awesome fundraiser "Bark for a Cause"!! we had a BLAST!!! ok, we are "addicted to" dog rescues [Peace of Mind Dog Rescue, NorCal Boxer Rescue & the last several years, Animal Friends Rescue Project. We love the heart, organization, focus & success of these groups. Today's "BOW WOW RESCUE PROJECT" a total hit: the venue had to be changed SUDDENLY because of rain, but Rancho Cielo Ted Taylor Youth Vocational Ag Center was PERFECT venue; caterers "The Butcher's Pit" had most delicious pulled pork, brisquet & side dishes, the AFRP staff was ON & so welcoming, Roger Reedy excellent MC, of course we love MICHELLE STARR, our ALL-STARR dog sitter for a couple "generations" of dogs x 5 1/2 yrs, the wine guys [sorry, didn't get name, but excellent], the basketball team greeting/directing staff so ON, the guitarist/singer STEVEN SHOOK was mesmerizing [YOU WOULD BE WASTED IN RETIREMENT. NO RETIREMENT!!! THE WORLD NEEDS YOU!]....obviously, we were smitten with our experience [& we go to lots of pup fundraisers]. Looking forward to Monterey Co. Gives when we can $ support AFRP again. [yeah, we worked 6-7 days a wk, 12 + hrs a day for 50+ yrs to support these grps]

A remarkable organization with fantastic volunteers who foster animals until their forever home is found. I have the love of my doggie life thanks to them as do many of my friends. Their adoption process is careful. As it should be.

I was previously affiliated with this organization, so I'll just give you the mission statement and recommend that you visit the facility for yourself when you're in PG. Animal Friends Rescue Project (AFRP) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit animal rescue organization based in Pacific Grove, California. We were founded in June 1998 by four individuals who were passionate about making a difference to companion animal overpopulation. We are dedicated to finding good permanent homes for abandoned, stray, and abused companion animals and ending the pet overpopulation crisis through focused spay/neuter programs.

Buckaroo, adopted Dec 2016. Thank you AFRP!

I adopted my sweet little dog after looking at the website. I worked with Darla who was fostering the puppy. I completed the application and Darla responded the next day and set up a meet and greet. My dog was born without a leg, so Darla made a home visit to make sure our yard, house and family would be a good environment for a tri-pawd. My puppy and I bonded instantly. I complete the adoption process at the Pacific Grove adoption center. I appreciated how kind and excited they were for both me and my puppy. The obedience class they set up was wonderful and so was the vet recommendation. I have now had Buckaroo for 10 months and she is perfect. I have had many occasions to run into Mariah who works at the adoption center, and she always greets me and Buckaroo with warmth and enthusiasm. I found the entire experience to be wonderful, I appreciate their background and home checks, as it is important to make a good match. I did not think they asked for anything that should not have been asked for, and in my opinion the process was smooth and not stressful for me or Buckaroo. We are now one very happy family.

AFRP is a truly special and amazing organization. We were so blessed to find our Border Collie at their facility ( via a web search) and they made the entire adoption process easy to follow, yet they were extremely through in insuring that our dog's new home was safe, stable and deserving of one of their Rescue animals. I would have expected nothing less from this dedicated team of animal professionals and animal lovers whose goal is to find loving home for every animal they care for. We were also blessed to have our dog so very well trained by one of the fantastic Re-Housing volunteers (she's a professional dog trainer) who also provided us a folder of valuable information on successfully transitioning our dog to a new home. In addition, the email and phone communication after we got our new family member settled into her new life is another reason why AFRP is so special. It's clear that the collaborative work between AFRP and their volunteers who are the backbone of the entire process works so incredibly well.

Stewie - Just adopted this wonderful little guy! He's all tuckered out! AFRP has been fantastic, I highly recommend them for any adoptions!

Some volunteers need to brush up on people skills...maybe better training before the are allowed to represent the AFRP?

People balk at the $300 adoption fee, but I was happy to pay that.
