When we are out of town with the dog, I like to stop at local non-chain pet shops, so we checked out Stone's Pet Shop, which is located in a strip mall in Pacific Grove. It is a small, but busy store that has foot, toys, and leashes, etc. for dogs and cats. Our dog, Zoey, had a great time sniffing her way through the store. Placed several special orders and they didn't arrive on time and on the day they said they would. They didn't communicate at all regarding the delay. I am very much so disappointed and unsatisfied with the store and the customer service. It was a reoccurring issue and thought I'd give them another try by providing them with specific direction to communicate with me if they were unable to get the products when they said they would (and let them know the issue I had in the past with not receiving orders on time). There were even notes in the system outlining that -- and they still couldn't follow those simple directions. I recommend saving yourself the time and stress and taking your business elsewhere! I've been here for the self wash several times and it seems like they never vacuum down there. I understand there's going to be pet hair throughout the day, but there shouldn't be pet hair flying around getting in my mouth and face the minute they open those doors. We bought worms and crickets from them for our gecko. The crickets were well priced at 5 for 20, but the worms were almost $10 for 50! We didn't even get to feed our gecko as they were literally all dead when we got home! We paid $10 for dead worms but can spend less than $5 for worms at a chain that will last a month read more

I have been going to stones pet shop for a few years now and I have literally nothing but good things to say. 1. They will order things in for you if they dont have it. 2. They will adjust prices if other places are selling for a lot cheaper. 3. The workers are super nice and knowledgeable on different topics. They are also honest when they dont know something. They wont just make up stuff (experienced this a lot at other places) 4. The owner is super helpful and involved in his store. 5. One of the best places in monterey to get aquarium necessities ordered. They add up a bunch of peoples orders to meet requirements for whole sale orders, then order them all from whole sale. They also dont mark up the fish too much. Theyll give you a call so you can be there when the whole saler drops off the fish, so theres less stress on the fish. read more

I love this place! For some reason many people get the impression that local businesses are more expensive than the big box stores. This is not the case here. Stone's is cheaper for quality pet food and grooming services. The staff is very knowledgable when it comes to pet food. Fir this I wanted to rate them five stars, but I wanted to wait until I brought my cat in for grooming. Stella, their cat groomer, is amazing. I have a Maine Coon that developed mats in his fut because he would not let me brush him. I called many groomers and was quoted $80+ for a lion's cut. Stone's quoted me $40 and $5 to trim Oliver's nails. They don't do sedation so I was somewhat nervous (he's never let me groom him), but I couldn't beat the price so I decided to go for it. Stella reassured me when I brought Oliver in and said he would be done on half an hour. I got a call half an hour later. Oliver looks amazing! He's been so much happier sonce the mats are out of his fur. I will be using Stone's again for grooming. read more

Okay so this is a review for only their retail store. I notice their groomer service getsy mixed reviews. As for their store I can say without a doubt I am a huge fan and get my cat food and litter as well as many dog treats here. I have an orange tabby cat that loves the Merrick brand food they carry and I use to use Kitty Litter with Tide but it smelt like cat poop with air freshener mixed it did not stop the smell it just added a chemical sent to the poop smell, YUCK! Anyways just by chance on a vet trip I visited their Carmel location and was recommended this kitty litter "Premium Choice" it's all natural which is a cool bonus but the real reason I love it is because I currently live in a 250 square food granny unit and my cat litter box is 8 feet from the head of my bed and I can't even tell it is there anymore!!!!!!!!!! Sory I got exclamation happy but really it's the best change that has made my life so much more enjoyable. Also I have a Grate Dane puppy that is a year old now and she eats treats almost faster than I can buy them and I have to get her lamb as Danes have sensitive stomachs. I was very happy to find affordable bags of biscuit treats here with Lamb as the first ingredient. This store has made pet owning so much more enjoyable and easier for me. I have watched a beautiful, friendly cockatoo deteriorate over the last 6 months in this store. Her personality has changed and she is clearly in distress. Her cage doesn't get cleaned often, and she is given cardboard to peck on. She used to say hello when someone walked into the store, now she doesn't talk anymore and many times faces away from people, pecking cardboard. This is so cruel. Many attempts to offer looking after her / foster her were unsuccessful. Seems as though the staff who work there don't care about her at all. She is neglected & should not be put up in a pet store that supposedly cares about animals & birds. She desperately needs to be loved & cared for. read more

I took my very stubborn, scared husky to Stone's to be groomed yesterday and had a great experience. I had trouble even getting her in the door, but the staff was so sweet providing her treats and greeting her with love. I was given call updates during her grooming, which helped ease my mind. We've been bringing our pup here for the self serve wash for about two years. It's been pretty decent; okay service, clean supplies available and decent prices. Unfortunately the service has gone extremely downhill. The tubs don't drain so my dog was siting in dirty water. The customer service has gotten so terrible, no worker is at the desk to great or assist you. Today, no worker was insight so we got started since we were in a hurry. We washed and were waiting at the front desk to pay before the worker saw us. We could have easily left without paying. On top of everything, the price has gone up with less quality service. I have been looking for a new groomer for a while. I decided to try Stone's as I have shopped at the pet store before and was very pleased. I called the day after Christmas and was able to get an appointment for that Saturday. My poor Yorkie was in desperate need of a groom and felt almost ashamed it had been so long. I explained everything to the person who answered and was treated with courtesy, dignity and no "pet parent" shaming as I had been elsewhere. We arrived a bit early, sorry Stone's, but it didn't seem to be a problem. We didn't ask how long it would be so decided to go to the grocery store while we waited, well...my daughter went inside and I sat in the car with my other dog. Before my daughter came back out I got the call that Max was ready. I was floored and a little nervous that she was able to do it so fast. I readied myself for what I would see when I went in. Instantly I was greeted with a smile and hello again. As I was talking to Charlie, the groomer, Max came to the front of the kennel and was so happy and he didn't bark even once, and he is_a_BARKER...almost constantly. He looked at me and wagged his tail. He looked so good I was no longer nervous. Charlie did exactly what we asked for. I would recommend Charlie, and Stone's, to anyone who asked. read more

I encourage anyone&everyone to stop going to Stones pets in pacific grove. They cut my dogs skin when she was getting groomed& tried to hide it by putting a bow over the wound. When I complained to the owner,he did not apologize nor did he want to see the injury. Most of all he implied that I could have brought my dog in with the injury already there. I love this pet store! The owners really care about animals and know their products well. They carry a bunch of really healthy pet foods that can be hard to find. They stock most of the cat foods that Tracie Hotchner of Martha Stewart radio's Cat Chat recommends. They have birds for sale in the back of their store, which can roam free and add character to the shop. They also board birds so you never know what you'll get to see- one day they had a tame crow/raven hybrid staying with them and she was super cool to see! They are a small store, but are packed with everything you need from treats and toys to litter and fish and aquarium supplies. They are even open on Sunday! read more

A small shop hidden in this shopping center in Pacific Grove. Locally owned and operated they offer grooming on top of regular supplies. While they are a little shop they do cater to a lot of different types of animals not just cats and dogs. A tad bit pricier than Petco or other large chains but you feel good about supporting a small store. I had my dogs nails cut here and they not only cut them but filed them down as well with a dremel tool so they weren't left sharp. All for only $12! I had called around town and they seem to be the cheapest place for this service. I'll be back to get my dog fully groomed and nails cut again! read more

Stones has outstanding customer service. It is truly a "mom and pop" store that is ran by the proprietors. I believe they are husband and wife. I could be wrong. If I am, however, they both must have other spouses that will not enjoy my review. Regardless of marital affiliation (or not) the two owners work together and give you the necessary attention you will require to get the right thing and then be on your way. The majority of the items they have here are above average quality. They also have a good selection of quality dry dog food. The owners (married or.... otherwise) make it a point to spend their money locally as well, which really makes me feel good about shopping here. read more

Our relationship with Stones is, unfortunately, over with... After hooking us on a great groomer, now he is gone and we are back with the talented groomer who never talks to our dog (the other guy was great with our dog). As I said she is a good groomer, however she wants to instead talk to her helper, and so be it.... But our dog is NOT a sweater, and she is NOT a dry cleaner (if you don't want to talk and interact with animals, why work with them?!) Dogs are sentient beings who deserve some attention by the groomers and vet personnel handling them! And Stone is now back to carrying one company's lines of food after a huge recall by this company... Seems Stones is more concerned with carrying zillions of brands--even when said companies involved have shown their lack of health and safety for our pets--rather than the safety and health of our dog. Let me first say, I loved going to Stones. I thought it was a cute place and friendly employees. I thought about whether or not I should write a review because I never do these things, however, I cannot get over the type of treatment my dog and I received during our last visit. I had been taking my toy poodle to Stone's grooming for the last 2 years and they always seemed like they did a great job. On June 24th, 2016, I dropped my toy poodle off at Stones for his regular grooming. A girl I have never met before was going to groom my dog but she seemed nice. It normally takes 2 to 2 1/2 hours for my toy poodle to get done. When I arrived after 2 1/2 hours, they said they would be another hour. When I arrived again, she still wasn't finished. It took this girl took 4 hours to groom my dog! On top of that, she had cut his paw so badly that he had a limp. When I asked her why it took so long, she said it was because she air dried him in the kennel. I was really angry about that as well as how badly she had cut his foot. She said she put "quick stop" on it to stop the bleeding. After apologizing and telling me I didn't have to pay for the session, I felt that was nice but I was still upset my dog couldn't walk properly. When I got home, the "quick stop" stuff came off and my dog's paw starting bleeding profusely. There were puddles of blood. I had to take my dog to the vet. The vet said the groomer should have never put that quick stop stuff on his paw. My dog was bandaged up and was giving medication. The groomer actually came to the vet after I called her and she paid for the visit which was nice. The vet said my dog should be able to walk again in a week. After 2 weeks of my dog still limping, I called Stone's again and told them about my dog's status and how upset I was about this whole situation. The manager Tom told me he will NOT pay for any more vet bills and that he feels he has done all he can and how I need to take better care of my dog. On top of that, he banned me from ever using Stone's grooming service again! So basically, he banned my dog and me from coming back to Stone's because they cut my dog's paw and they didn't want to have to deal with the consequences. I am so disgusted that there are even people like Tom who work at what seems to be a nice pet store but is a horrible person. My dog couldn't walk properly for 18 days. Everyone save your time, money, and the safety of your pet. I ended up calling a mobile pet grooming in Pacific Grove and they were cheaper and had my toy poodle groomed in an hour! Woo! read more

I recently adopted a small dog from a local pet rescue he is the perfect little dog and we love him. He has captured our hearts. but, like many rescue dogs he has never been exposed to grooming. Our little angel turns to a demon the second he sees the groomer. We were denied service at two other local salons because they could not handle him. i took a chance and went to Stone's. Todd has been amazing. He has really cared about our little guy. Todd has been sensitive to the stress on us and our dog. His nail were so long that the dewclaw had broken. I am sure this was due to his aggression around grooming. Todd has been doing desensitization with him and meets him out in the store area with cookies and using positive reinforcement and top notch grooming skills has been able to bathe him and trim his nails. He has been very careful to never hurt him and is doing the nails a little at a time. I know Mickey (my little guy) will get accustom to grooming under Todd's professional skills and I am grateful. Upon a recommendation I brought My sweet Yorker Lucy to Stone per grooming. I should have waited for the specific groomer referred. My bad! The gal I was assigned was young and not sure now how much experience she has. I asked for a shorter haircut but not shaved. Shorter on her face, and let her know she had some tangles in her underside. I picked up Lucy she looked ok. When she got home she was exhausted almost in a drug induced state. Strange because my Yorker is very active. Top it off later that evening she was crying and scratching. They cut her in several places, her but was very raw and scratched, her legs scratches and underside red and shaved awkwardly. Her hair 3-days later seems barely cut at all and is quite choppy. I feel like I need to take scissors and finish the job myself. I am very disappointed with the groomer. read more
