Thank y'all's sooo much for taking such excellent care of my rabbits Steve and Stephanie!!! I am so happy and so relieved. I ain't gonna lie, the other reviews did have me scared. But fortunately, that has not been what I've experienced. The place is clean and neat with a cool pet supply shop. The staff here has been very kind and patient with me. I have two pet rabbits that are being boarded here right now. Like dogs, rabbits can pick up on any sketchiness. I have visited my rabbits and they are both very happy, at peace and are their adorable curious selves. My rabbits don't lie y'all's!! Yelp does leave A LOT to be desired, their "management" and support for businesses is dang near non existent. However, for the most part, they do put the ball in the consumers court. And I take advantage of this to the fullest, in a good way though!! As a consumer, I am very community minded and always try to put myself in the small business's shoes. I am not a small business owner myself, but wish I was. To anyone reading, please consider what I have to say and give this place a go!! This was a fantastic hotel for me beloved cat! Very mindful of her needs and good to her!

This facility is by far the worst I have ever set foot in. The staff is inexperienced and improperly trained. The owners have NO IDEA what they are doing. The owner, Michael, lies about services provided, they advertise group day care, but don't have it. If you bring your dog treats, they will be put in a bucket to be fed to the ducks by the river. Michael is unprofessional, rude and uninformed regarding pet care. He disrespects his employees, does not properly train them and then screams at them for not doing their job. The place is unsafe; the women's bathroom has black mold in it, there are broken gates throughout the facility, sharp edges that could harm your pet and kennels with floor to ceiling steel beams that are a death sentence to a hyper animal. This facility is inappropriate for habitation, much less running a business here. If you care about your pets, you can find at least two better facilities within a 10 minute drive. My dogs stayed 6 days and had One on one playtime everyday. The staff learned threir names immeadiatly. And took the time to learn about their individualities and habits. I have never written a complaint before online. I took my dog there for the first time in many years for boarding. I asked the owner to clarify some kenneling services they offer. He got 'road rage' angry. I was dumb founded. I took my dog to another kennel as I feared for my dogs safety. If you can't answer a customer's question, and have a hair trigger emotional response, I worried what he would do to my dog while kenneling. I would not go there again. read more

The building is absolutely falling apart, the ceiling is leaking, the air conditioning doesn't work, the kennels inside and outside are breaking more and more often, there's no 3rd shift so AM shift is cleaning up urine and feces that are possibly 7 hours old and stuck to concrete flooring, the work is more so janitorial and less of an animal related job you're almost never spending time with animals. They advertise daycare but that rarely happens and don't plan on being the one to handle it as a kennel technician. The most animal activity you'll be doing is walking dogs from one kennel to the next. They list jobs here but never actually hire anyone so you're constantly understaffed and overworked. It's exhausting. The workers are amazing people, but unfortunately I have to agree with the google/indeed/yelp/anywhere else reviews....the bosses just don't know how to "boss". The bosses actually LIVE upstairs (illegally) you'd think they would take care of your dogs overnight but they don't. We've taken in up to 120 dogs, there are (they'll tell you this if you call and ask) 104 kennels there. You do the math on that. You will NOT receive PTO, OT, holiday pay, or paid sick days here either regardless of HAVING to work holidays which is absurd. Check the reviews anywhere and everywhere. I'm rating this facility a 2 because my dog was not injured and alive; however, when I picked him up he was absolutely frantic. I would even say freaked out. He behaved in the same manner that he does when he is caged at home. Consequently, has not been caged since 13 weeks and he is now 8 months. Can't really say for sure, but it makes me question if he was in a much smaller space than 12 x 5 ft. He also smelled terribly like urine. Lastly, they would not allow me to view where he would be boarded. This should have been a red flag, but I foolishly left him anyway. 1st of all I don't do reviews and this experience is partly my fault for not taking heed to the other reviews. The young lady I dealt with was nice and polite. The problem for me came in with the contract. Probably around the 4th paragraph down it states that they are not responsible for anything that happens to your dog... nothing. Ok, maybe that's a lot of legalese and it's in every contract. But when I looked at her and asked, "So I drop my dog off and you have no responsibility?" She shrugs her shoulders and says, " nope." This was not a good experience.. My two dogs were there for 4 days. Got them home they smelled like urine . They both had to go badly to relieve them selfs. Our dogs are fully potty trained they don't go to the bathroom in their kennels. So that said I asked if they take them for walks they said every day.. I asked to see it on their security cameras. They said no ! I asked to see inside the kennels they said no ! I asked for a Manger he said he was. I asked for his name he said No! Very rude and a terrible place to take a pet you love. read more

I worked at this place a couple of summers ago- but had to quit. Bad managment, and worst of all the dogs are not kept in good conditions. This is the first time I've felt compelled to post a negative review for anyone. I have been taking my dogs to Animal Motel for almost 20 yrs and I've had enough!! Since Daryl has taken over service has plummeted. A couple of weeks ago I stopped in for a walk in nail trim for my dog, during the designated time. No one was there to do a nail trim. Ok, when will the person be back, no idea. I left annoyed, but things happen. New policies are now in place regarding boarding. Unfortunately, I had to late cancel due to client emergency, (I'm a therapist). I thought I hope I might get a boarding credit in spite of the new policy. Also, had to pay 1/2 as a deposit when I booked. Lost the deposit, no credit. I've been a very loyal customer, but that doesn't seem to matter to Animal Motel anymore. I hope Daryl realizes that the deposit he kept is less than I would have spent as an ongoing client. Used to love this place, not anymore. Very disappointing for a long term customer. LT read more

I can't even rate this. The customer service there sucks. He (the owner I believe) interrupted me more then once while I was trying to understand why my dogs get recorded keep getting lost. My dogs go to the vet once a year and every year they get them. Every time I go in for a grooming they ask for them. Well this was the last straw. I asked the man to stop interrupting me. He flat out said if I yell at him again he'll hang up. So I did it for him and he then canceled my appointment. Liz is a great groomer. I've been taking my dog(s) to Animal Motel for more than 15 years. Both have absolutely loved it. As soon as I hit the freeway exit ramp, my dog starts to happily whine with anticipation. He has nothing but wags and kisses for the staff. If I have toys or a special blanket, they are put in the kennel with him. I would question the reviewer who said the dogs sit in their own vomit/urine for hours. Since we are not allowed back into the kennels, how would s/he even know. read more

To start, I have never left my pets in a boarding facility before. So, for this to be my first and their first experience away from me, was traumatizing. On the morning of July 20th, 2021 I took my cats to Animal Motel. When my mother, I and the cats arrived at the boarding facility, the initial smell of the lobby caught me off guard. It smelt like a humane society. I ignored my initial instinct that this was wrong and continued to check them in. I asked to see the area that they would be staying and one of the (owners from what was told to my mother and I) refused, stating that due to covid restrictions they were not doing tours at the moment. This is obviously a red flag for us. Given the situation of having chemical treatments done in my apartment, I honestly had no where else to take them and so I finished checking them in. I was told I could check up on them throughout the day but that I would not be allowed to see where they were staying and if I wanted pictures that it would be an additional charge. This was also a red flag. When we were all checked in the owner told us it was ok to leave, he had not put them in their area yet and there was another person waiting in the lobby. I refused to leave until they were taken in back. After 5 hours we came back to pick them up. My cats are usually frantically meowing while in carriers. This time there wasn't even a peep out of them, which is highly unusual. None of them were trying to get out of the carriers or making a sound. My mother immediately became worried. The lady at the desk (whom had never met me or my mother) never asked our names when retrieving my pets nor an ID. This could have been anyone picking them up. We got the carriers in the car, which was in the first handicap spot due to my mother's and my disabilities. Once in the car my mother put her finger in the cage door to pet my one cat, Yoshi. He's a 17lb boy that loves everyone and everything. He barely gave her the time of day and looked terrified. She told me him and his carrot toy felt wet. Knowing that a stressful environment can cause him to hyperventilate and drool, I passed this off as drool, this was a mistake. We made our way home, 40 minutes away. The entire ride, none of them made a sound and stayed to the back of their carriers. When I picked up Yoshi's cage to take him from the car to the apartment I could smell urine. He has never before peed in his carrier so I was very concerned and tried to bring him upstairs as soon as possible. We got to the bottom door and he got excited, pushing at the cage door. The cage door came off. IT CAME OFF. They had not completely placed the cage door in the carrier and my cat escaped! I lunged instantly, cutting my hand and wrenching my finger on the cage door that came off to tackle this large boy to the ground, hurting my back in turn. This is when I realized he was covered in urine. I had to wrap both arms around his belly because he was flailing frantically. I was then, also, covered in urine. I ran him up two flights of steps like this, getting him in the apartment, into the bathroom and shutting him in the bathroom to retrieve the other pets. Once I did this my mother stayed with them in the living room while I bathed him head to toe. My Black and white kitty was black and yellow due to this. I called them distressed. They immediately gave me a run around. I was told that he was dry when they put him in the carrier and that he probably just sprayed from anxiety. They refused to take responsibility for the door being inappropriately put on the carrier. I was also told that this was the first time they ever had an issue like this. This is a lie, I have numerous accounts of the exact problems I experienced from other people on their google and facebook. When I told them I wanted a refund and their staff to get better training I was met with a reply of "well, in order to give you a refund I will need you to sign an NDA." There was no way that I would ever accept this! After a day of waiting I was told he saw nothing inappropriate on the cameras. I told them I wanted to see either footage of where my cats had been or stills from their cameras showing this, every mention was derailed by changing the subject. I will NEVER bring a pet here again and I will do my best to make sure that no one else ever goes through anything similar. read more

PLEASE do not take your animals here! My mom took her little dog here for training classes and the first session was great. Then he got a new instructor who screamed at him and dragged him by his lead. The poor little thing was terrified and shaking. He also had another little dog friend in his class quit when it was attacked by another dog. The dog that attacked stayed in the class and that only added to his terror. When you take your animal here for boarding, it is not given any of the toys or blankets from home, they sit in their own vomit, urine, etc for hours. There are employees who don't like animals and will drag the dogs around by their leads. The kennels, which you can see all by tour, are cold, sterile, and uncomfortable. The front desk girls were great, very sweet, but the rest of the place... Dogs in grooming have been mixed up with identical dogs of the same breed and incorrectly groomed, then returned to the wrong owners. I would rather leave my animals home alone than bring them to this place! They would get better care taking care of themselves. read more

Do not take your dogs here. Customer satisfaction is not important to them only billing unfairly.

I would advise against boarding your pets here or taking dog classes. Some of the people are great, but my mom has a little dog that was treated so roughly in his class that he shook-they said he was a "stubborn little dog". He was also almost attacked by another dog, who instead attacked his friend dog. The boarding conditions are the equivalent of caging your dog in the basement and having someone stop by a few times a day to feed them and clean the mess they make. BEWARE! read more

Our dogs have been staying here when we are out of town for almost 15 years. The dogs love their time there, to the point that my kids are convinced he must have a girlfriend there! I really hate to give bad reviews but my puppy is my child and to see her in the condition that she's in after picking her up really hurts me to the core. When we first brought her to stay one of the ladies that was working front desk decides that putting a lead on her and dragging her to the back is the best way to introduce a scared 11 pound dog to a room of growling and barking dogs. Even after being told she isn't use to being around other dogs especially ones that are 5 times bigger than her. I tried to pick her up to hand her to the lady but she didn't want to hold her. It took another person from the back to come pick up my dog and tell her she clearly doesn't like the lead. Common sense!! I dropped my baby off to stay overnight for 5 nights. I gave her 7 bags of food because she's super greedy just to pick her up with 5 full bags remaining. Her spine was showing. I never seen her so skinny in all of her 5 years. All of her treats were right where I left them. So she wasn't given anything that I sent with her. I called and chatted with someone the third day just to check up on her and was told she was doing great. Eating playing and happy. I pick her up. I had no review of how her stay was. She reeked of urine and we basically were pushed out the door. Everyone was just to busy to talk to us. I will never bring my puppy back here. She is still shaken from being terrified and even when we lift our feet to step over her she jumps and squints which make me want to find a way to investigate this place for mistreating animals. We took our dogs there for haircuts. What a mistake!! Although we showed the groomer photos of previous haircuts from the previous groomer Dawn (since retired) the new groomer ignored the pictures and completely butchered our dogs. We also told her to not cut any hair off the backs of our dogs and she proceeded to scalp our dogs back. We will never go back again. read more

I have only gotten Yelp for this review because I am so upset. My 5 lb poodle stayed for 3 1/2 days. When I picked her up I couldn't even stand the smell of her. She had must have slept in her urine the complete time she was there. My dog eats (2) times a day and I had 4 baggies left of food. Marked with the days that she was supposed to be given. I also sent enough wet food to give her throughout the days - no extra. Came home with a full can that wasn't even open yet. I just figured if I could help one person to take a different place. By the way - my dog has stayed multiple times. Usually gets a haircut before I pick her up....hence I never was able to smell the urine. Made an appt as I was driving home to drop her off to my groomer as I couldn't stand the smell. read more

Not to pleased with this accommodation for my Terrier mix. I should have seen the red flag when this was the only dog kennel available left with room over the holiday! First the prices are outrageous considering the property. I usually go to Country Aire which is $22 per night while the Animal Hotel is $50 per night plus charges another full day if you don't pick your pouch up by 10AM the following day! How they can charge this much for a dumpy kennel in a run down business district off Silver Spring is beyond me? I would gladly pay the $50 to Country Aire which has acres and acres of property in a country setting for your dogs to run around in. When I saw the outdoor play area at the Animal Motel it is basically a small fenced in area the size of a half parking lot with a few tarps over the area! The one plus was that the facility seemed to be rather clean so at least I assume my dog was not sitting in filth all weekend! However as other have mentioned I paid for 3 play times at $10! dollars a pop and I also suspect they let him out for 5 minutes or so and did little to no play as when he came home with me my terrier had more energy then I had ever experienced and I had to take him on a good mile long walk! I also left toys for my dog for the few days I was away and when they returned them to me the bag appeared to never have been opened so I imagine my dog just sat in his kennel 24x7 with no love or nothing for him to play with even though I specifically mentioned to give him his new nylabone bone and Kong that I had brought along for him. He also barely ate any of the the food that I packed for him but I imagine he was so depressed there he had zero interest in eating! I also paid extra for them to bathe by small terrier and he came back with some stupid bandana on but smelled about the same as when I dropped him off. At Country Aire when they bathe him they include free furminator and then use a very nice smelling doggy shampoo that leaves him smelling wonderful for at least a week. As I was traveling out of town for Thanksgiving I really had little options as all the good places were booked but I definitely recommended not leaving your dog here and perhaps opting for in home care with someone you can trust and you will probably still pay less! I dropped him off on a Thursday and picked him up Saturday arround noon to a total bill of $231 2 nites stay + an extra 50 because my flight did not get into till 10AM in MKE =$150 3 supposed 10 minute play seesions = $30 bath for small terrier that left him smelling worse than before $40 With tax $231! LOL I think that is more than I spent on the hotel for myself visiting my relatives in Kansas City. Next time I think I will just find a dog friendly airline and hotel in KC or opt to have someone watch him in my home. At least I know he will be getting proper care this way! Never Again! read more

If they were awful to the dogs they board my current dog and my dog before would have been scared to death every time I took them there. But they weren't/aren't. My current dog absolutely gets very (happy) excited every time we get there. When my first dog died, they sent a condolence card and made a donation to a pet charity. I board here a lot and in fact am about to use them again for a week long stay. I have no problem recommending them! read more

I've had three different dogs that I've had over the last 18 years there for boarding, when I've picked them up there were happy and health. I can't judge there obedience training but I know that has a lot to do with the dog and your expectations. I've never had any problems with the staff, always friendly. Very Satisfied read more

I been using Animal Motel for boarding, grooming and training for the last 10 years. I have found Animal Motel to be clean, the staff friendly and they accomodate to all of my dogs needs. When my dogs stay with them they never come out of there smelling like a kennel. I can bring the toys my dogs are familiar with for the daily playtime or in the summer they have a small swimming pool that my dogs simply love. I would recommend Animal Motel to anyone who is needs to have a safe place for their pets to stay while they are on vacation. read more
