So it is my first time bringing my little girl to get spayed and everything seemed great. The ladies at the desk seem to be very easily annoyed-like if you missed something they said and have to repeat it they're out to get you. I understand this place can be very busy and they need to get everyone in and out as fast as they can but I guest customer service doesn't matter here. I was told I would get a "phone call" once my dog was ready to be picked up which I felt a little uncomfortable with but agreed. It was literally past 4 pm and still haven't heard from the place.I even checked on their website and it said pick up times were between 2-4:30 pm. I was like the 2nd/3rd one in the morning to drop off my dog and I WOULD think i would be NOT the last one to be called. We tried calling to see if they may have forgotten to call but no answer FOR THE LAST 3 HOURS. By 4:15 pm i just went ahead and sent my boyfriend to pick her up. As he was getting down the street he finally receives a call to pick our dog up. Everyone at Animal Samaritan's are very professional. I have a friendly senior corgi that dislikes the Vet Office, but staff are so patient with him. Dr. Heskett is an awesome Vet. I adopted an eight month old heeler mix at Animal Samaritans in Thousand Palms. Her name is "gypsy" and she was listed as "shy". Before I adopted gypsy, I asked to speak to the animal behavior specialist. My requests were ignored. I emailed the animal behavior specialist and she never got back to me. Now I understand why. The woman presenting herself as an animal behavior specialist has no formal training in animal behavior. She took a few classes at Santa monica college in computer science. That's it! She is unavailable and incompetent! she does not return your calls, she is not available for consultation before you adopt, and she is not qualified to do the job. After 24 hours in my home with gypsy, it was obvious to me that gypsy was a traumatized, abused, and neglected "special needs dog". Animal Samaritans took no responsibility for misrepresenting Gypsy. They said she was "shy" and would warm up quickly. This was not the case. Gypsy has many problems due to past abuse and neglect that were not shared with me. She was more than I could handle as a 71 year old senior. I called the shelter three days after I adopted gypsy and they agreed to take her back. However, they would not refund my $200 adoption fee. I explained that it was their responsibility for misrepresenting the behavior of gypsy and it was not fair to both gypsy and myself to take her back, not refund my adoption fee, and list her again for a $200 adoption fee. I am a senior on a fixed income and cannot adopt another dog due to their GREED. It is obviously all about money to them. I will never step foot in AS adoption facility again. They do not have the animals best interest at heart. The entire adoption process was traumatizing and unnecessary. I hope they work with gypsy and train her before they list her again. Gypsy is not a "shy" dog. Gypsy is an abused and neglected animal with a past history that is going to take many months of specialized training to overcome. Beware. If you see this dog listed on Petfinder. Do not adopt her and less you have experience with "special needs" animals with psychological problems. my heart goes out to this little lady and I hope she gets the training that she deserves. read more

I was a nervous WRECK all day waiting for my baby to be fixed. They were very orderly & professional taking my pug in & the same when he was done. I did want to say this - there may be a Yelp review coming from some Karen who didn't want to put her mask on, don't believe a word she says. I love this place, I really do. I love what they stand for, I love their commitment to the well-being of animals, and have had nothing but positive experiences here. They have a totally professional and dedicated staff that go above and beyond. They are truly an outstanding and remarkable organization. ...THAT SAID, The one and only singular complaint I have, is their PHONE SYSTEM! I can see that other people here on yelp have also mentioned their bizarre and maddening way they approach phone calls. I took my dog Olive to be spayed there on May 16th. When I picked her up her light blue collar was purple from blood and she still was very sleepy with saliva on the side of her mouth. I asked oh my what's the blood from as I could smell the iron. The lady who brought her out told me nothing except use the cone and give her meds. When I got home I realized the hair on her back was crunchy (she is black on her back) when I wiped her down it took 2 towels to get the blood off. I the. Realized she had staples that no one told me about and a large incision. I called to find out when to get the staples out and they told me we had an appointment already scheduled. I have called twice to ask for someone to call me back and let me know what happened to her and why was she so bloody and no one has called me. The last time I was concerned because she is having blood in her urine. No call back! So I then asked for the operative report and it is shocking. She hemorrhaged in the OR and they had to open her up more to stop it. I cannot believe they don't think it is important to talk with the dogs owner and make them aware or act like they care. This was the worst experience ever since February 2020. It was good since 2017. My Dog had been going there since he was 6 weeks old. All they do is have their hand out for donations and give the most horrific service I have ever seen. No, I am not going back ever! I could not get appointments as you have to call on Fridays and I am unavailable on Friday. Bad Bad. The staff at animal Samaritans are compassionite and professional. They were there when I rescued 2 puppies 13 years ago when they helped find a wonderful home for 1 of the 2 the male "Mick" on a large ranch with 27 other free roaming dogs, and "Marie" who I kept and spent 13 years with. Marie on April 19th 2023 at 11:03 pm passed away after fighting what started out as kennel cough, and unfortunately turned into a terrible infection in her lungs. The staff, volunteers, and the doctor were there for both Marie and I through her illness and after her sad passing were there for us with there wonderful cremation services. Had a horrible experience with Dr. KO the Optomologist . The staff was nice . Dr. Ko was so awful and only gave me an option of removing my dogs eye for big bucks . Tried to shame me like I had let this go too long when I made an apt as soon as it happened . Traumatizing enough to have a dog you love have a problem without the doctor trying to make you feel worse . Got a second opinion at a different vet . My dog does not need her eye removed . Called twice in a Saturday and no one answered. Checked website for Saturday walk-ins and found nothing. I've always taken my dogs on my day for vaccines and no appointment was needed.Travelled all the way over there on my only day off and the lobby was empty. The girl at the front desk with the purple hair turned me away stating they no longer take walk ins. Informed her I called twice and confirmed they are supposed to answer the phones on Saturdays and yet she didn't answer even though it wasn't busy at all. The earliest appointment she told she had is now until December. This was a waste of time for me and I feel she could have made an exception in light of the circumstances and refuses to accommodate.Ridiculous!! read more

Short version: Amazing, wonderful staff. Excellent pricing. Long version: After a disappointing experience at VCA here in Yucca Valley, I decided to try Animal Samaritans in Thousand Palms when my 16 year old dog (The one in my profile pic) needed to cross the Rainbow Bridge. It was the best thing I could have done for both of us. I arrived on time to the appointment and before I could even call and tell them I had arrived, there was a wonderful vet tech at my car window. She greeted me (Remembering my dog's name) and brought me gloves and a gown for Covid safety. She even helped me put on the gown. I then carried my best friend into the building and held her while we waited for the vet tech and the vet. After a few minutes the vet and tech came in and administered the first sedative. While we waited for my best friend of 16 years to fall asleep, the vet and tech waited with me. We talked about how cute my bestie was and shared our dogmom stories. When it was time for that awful, final step, both the vet and tech continued to stay with me until it was over. They then left me to say goodbye to my sweet girl in private and gave me all the time I needed to do so. Do not get your animals fixed here, we adopted a kitty from next door who was not fixed, we had to wait four days before he could be fixed. The kitty was fixed on 1/28 and the area where his testicles became infected, enlarged, and as the ER vet who is treating him now for liver failure that is related to the infection, testicular necrosis. He is currently in the ICU having had emergency surgery and is on iv fluids, being forced fed. I have phoned the Animal Samaritans who on their voicemail greeting directs you to go to VCA which is just as bad and price gauges clients. I would also recommend NEVER taking your animal there. We lost two cats there and one of them was given a medication that pushed her into kidney failure. VCA acts like a mafia ring and not a facility that cares for the well-being of the animals. They do not give you an email contact in order to contact the vet or on their voicemail they do not let you leave a voicemail. The certificate of neuter is signed by Robert H. Mills, I would not trust this vet with any animal. How could spay or neuter become so botched up? If you are reading this and are adopting an animal from Riverside County Animal Services Coachella Valley Campus, please do not let the animal go next door to Animal Samaritans for neuter or spay. Animal Samaritans the cat ID is A1652177 I will be following up tomorrow when they are open. Also, DO NOT let them talk you into a cat collar, they sell only one size Xtra small, the cat we adopted is a big boy. I phoned Animal Samaritans after trying to put the collar on and noticing it was a size xtra-small. I explained that the cats neck is too large and the extra small collar would be uncomfortable, even if I stretched it out, it would constrict the neck of a larger cat. They do not issue refunds and I wanted to speak to the manager, left a message with the front desk with my number, and never heard from them. So, please do not expect good customer service or kindness from this facility. Banning Animal Vet. hospital is where we take our cats unfortunately the shelter is contracted with this facility and does not let you have the option to fix the cat at your primary vet or a spay/neuter clinic. read more

I have used Animal Samaritans for years. I have also supported their mission with contributions. Today I received a reminder email that my dog needs to have her rabies shot renewed. The email gave a link to make an appointment. The link did not work. I called. I have one weekly commitment that is difficult to change. Wednesday's from 9 am to noon. They are open 8 to 5 Monday through Saturday. After searching her database, I was told that they could only do a rabies shot during that time on Wednesdays and they had no other available times through the ensuing months. She said I should just go somewhere else. I did make a Wednesday appointment which included having to give a credit card (another new condition). Hopefully I will find another vet service and will move on from Animal Samaritans. My contributions can go elsewhere. . Such a shame. Something has changed. I had believed in their mission for years. I have been fostering for a few years now, and I want to share the HORRIBLE experience I had with Animal Samaritans yesterday. My perfectly healthy, almost 4 month old, kitten went in for surgery yesterday. She came home very weak and could hardly stand up. I didn't think much of if at the time and even made a joke of her going "timber" because she had just gotten out of surgery. As the day went on, she became worse and was very weak and lethargic. Then, the labored breathing started! Keep in mind, she was PERFECTLY FINE PRIOR TO THE SURGERY! Today we called to get her in and we were told that we had to wait until tomorrow for a doctor or go to VCA and spend thousands of dollars to fight for her life. We made the decision to stand up for the kitten stuck and went back to demand that she be seen today! We thought this was only fair and the right thing to do since THEY did this to her. They kept fighting us the entire time and tried telling us they didn't have the equipment to help. She's on oxygen, IV fluids, and antibiotics FIGHTING FOR HER LIFE!! ALL BECAUSE THEY ARE CARELESS AND RECKLESS. You best believe I WILL fight for her. I've had her since she was 3 weeks old and she has been such a bundle of joy until Animal Samaritans got ahold of her. I would also like to add that this isn't the first time this has happened. I have fostered many, many cats over the past few years and I can tell you that there has been many occasions where the foster kitten goes home to their adopted homes with fleas, ear mites, URI's and one of the ones I personally adopted came home with part of her uterus AFTER BEING spayed,. She goes into heat every so often and when I spoke with Animal Samaritans about it, they wanted to charge me $600 for a test! I still have a video for proof. I AM NOT OVER REACTING, I am in school for Veterinary Assistance and I have some insight on what goes on during procedures. Not to mention that I also have friends who work as Vet Techs and we all agreed this is COMPLETE NEGLIGENCE ON THEIR PART. Don't get me wrong, I completely understand that anything can happen during surgery and that every outcome will be different. But I also had another kitten that went in the same day and is completely fine and back to normal.
