I should have written this review a long time ago. I will say straight up - I don't believe in some treatments for animals. I worked in a veterinary hospital for years (2nd largest in the US, second only to the ASPCA - we actually had an MRI trailer!) and I didn't agree with some of the things that people put their animals through in the name of "extending their life." It was clear that the animal was suffering and didn't understand that it was living like this so it's owner would have more time. That being said, I do most of my own treatments - easy stuff, like worming, etc. When we first moved to the Coachella Valley, my beloved dog Bubba was getting pretty rickety. He needed a rabies vaccine so I brought him to another vet **** PLEASE NOTE NOT THIS ONE***** that my coworker recommended. After doing their "new patient exam", they gave me a quote for $1600.00 worth of procedures, like pulling some of his teeth, removing non-cancerous skin growths, etc. My poor baby was already older when we adopted him, ate just fine and was just OLD. The thing that bothered me most was the vet pressing on his teeth and saying they should be pulled because they were sensitive. I fed him home cooked rice and chicken, shredded to the point that he really didn't need to chew, with chicken fat mixed in to keep his weight up. His dry food was mixed with puréed chicken baby food to soften it. My teeth are sensitive too if someone pushes on them! There is no way I would have put that poor angel through having his teeth janked out and his skin cut open, when the reason we adopted an elderly dog was to give him a few last years of peaceful life. SO - we walked out. I paid their exam fee but refused anything else. A Google search showed Animal Samaritans on Petland Place in Thousand Palms, which has online scheduling. I talk on the phone for a living -- I hate doing it in regular life. I took Bubba to them, told them that he had been in a shelter for a long time so he had a real nervousness in clinical settings. The nurse walked us into the back, gave Bubba his shot in the hall and we walked right back out. And they fawned over this big, 100-pound, VERY mean-looking pit bull (who only barked once all the years we had him because he thought my turtle was a weird walking rock) like he was the King of Kings. Their prices are phenomenal. These are not people who are in it for the money. You can tell these employees all really care for animals and it makes me happy. (PS I didn't name the first vet office because I don't think that's fair. But if you're not comfortable with a vet, say no thanks and walk out. There's nothing wrong with that. And don't let anyone make you feel bad for stuff like not cleaning their teeth or other things like that. Animals survived for a very long time without dentists!!!!!) read more

They wanted him to see their vet (all about money) thank God I did not take him; my neighbors dog just came back with fleas and a rash from their filthy office. I do NOT recommend them. There's Animal Samaritans Clinic and Animal Samaritans Shelter. I was a volunteer with the shelter and the volunteer coordinator, Leslie, is really friendly; she keeps us all updated with events and where the help is needed. The shelter employees are really loving pet people and the shelter is packed with kittens, cats, puppies and dogs that need a home. This is a NO KILL SHELTER! Meaning they actually make the effort to go to the local animal shelters and pull-out adoptable pets. The only thing is that as a volunteer, I don't feel really wanted there and I feel like they don't really want to talk to me. I know they're busy, but it's just proper etiquette to introduce yourself, ask for my name, and update me on what needs to be done. The other volunteers though, are really warm. Other than that, they really do love and care for their animals being that they talk to them more than me. The clinic is another story. I went there with open arms to offer my volunteer service and was rejected immediately because it was my first time. Depending on which receptionist you get, they may or may not help you out. And my friend who adopted a puppy a few days earlier, she was shock to find that her pup needed to be euthanized and was not given enough information or grieving period to understand why. So to the employees, I know you love the animals and dealing with the people is the hardest part of the job, but remember that dealing with people is also the most important part because it really sets an impression. The staff is very professional, some more friendly than others but I understand they probably deal with a lot of bs. I was very happy with my visit today! The vet tech KC was extremely professional and friendly. She took extra care with my dog and really made her (and me) feel calm. I was also very impressed with Dr Kocian who spent extra time answering my questions and offering suggestions. I really felt like my dog was in good hands during her wellness exam. I thought the appointment would take a while because of covid restrictions and procedures, but I was in and out in about 30mins. My son's dog was fixed here and got her puppy shots and follow up shots. He was pleasantly surprised that the surgery had been covered by a grant for bull dogs. They are fast and affordable and next door to animal control which makes it very easy to get your dog license. No appointments needed for shots. Love this place if you can get someone by phone or get an appointment. A 48-72 hour turnaround on phone calls to the pharmacy is inadequate and the CEO should staff this area better...no one needing a prescription refill should have to wait this long to hear back. read more

I am so glad I was able to get an appointment for my dog Yogi. My dog has chronic ear infections and we needed him to be sedated as he puts up quite a fight and gets agitated quickly. Other animal hospitals were giving me quotes for this procedure way over what I could afford. So happy I chose to wait it out for an appointment at Animal Samaritans. All the employees were super kind on the phone during intake. Waited for about 15 minutes and two really kind nurses came out to muzzle Yogi for everyone's safety! He was very nervous but they were very kind and gentle with him. All in all his procedure took a little less than 2 hours. Not only did they clean out his ears and apply the two week treatment he needed but they also trimmed his nails, cleaned his teeth, and prescribed some sedative in case he needed it during his recovery. Dr Heskett was so so amazing and so nice!! She went over everything with us and understood our dog's personality. So appreciative of the amazing care they took with Yogi. (This review is for the veterinary clinic, not the shelter next door to it.) I brought my dog in for a simple rabies vaccination so he could get his county license. Arrived at 1:25 pm and waited almost an hour. Employees seem to wander up and down with no specific task in mind while people wait. There was no one ahead of me for vaccines and I heard the staff say all the appointments for the day were checked in by 2 pm. Yet I sat and waited for 50 minutes. Then, they tried to charge me $47 to verify that my male dog was neutered (I needed verification for a discounted county license.) I declined to pay the $47, went next door to the shelter to get my dog's license, and they verified that his testicles were gone...for free. Terrible service and obviously trying to rip people off. I forgot to mention, they gave me a blank rabies certificate. No tag number, date of vaccination, vaccine name or lot/serial number. You can't reach a live person on the phone so I had to fax them the blank vaccination certificate and they eventually sent me a corrected copy. Will not be coming back. read more

No stars if I could. I moved here from Sonoma County 2 months ago and my dog immediately developed pneumonia. Somehow these rodents appeared as the optimal choice for urgent care so I naively sought them out because my dog was almost choking to death on his own phlegm. He was treated the first time with antihistamines that didn't do anything, the 2nd time I came in, he was kept for nearly 3 hours while I waited in the waiting room - I checked on him every 20 minutes and I was told they couldn't reach the doctor etc - there was a more immediate concern for another pet - that made me patient and willing to wait. After nearly 3 hours I asked if I could take my dog and go home - they sent the doctor out and he literally said, "I am so sorry, we thought he was a drop off, he's been ready to go and we have his prescription waiting for you, we are sorry, we'll refund you the observation fee." GREAT - How about my 3 hours back? Fast forward to today - he needs a prescription kibble for his digestion - he had his annual checkup in June at his vet in Occidental for over a decade (I am the most attentive dog dad you'll ever meet, on schedule and time with everything) I had his records transferred in July - only 2 months ago - maybe less - with his active prescriptions. I called Animal Samaritans pharmacy and they said they would return my call in 72 hours. UNACCEPTABLE. So in my rational mind, I thought, I'll drive over there and just buy it, I know they keep it in their lobby in the "cat" section. I go in, tell the girl with pink hair (cute btw, but I'm trying to differentiate between the helpful people and the non-helpful people - Amanda with the shorter hair has always been a dream to work with and I really wish she had been there today.) Anyway, they had the audacity to traumatize my dog again (Because no animal loves the vet,) after he has an active prescription for his DOG FOOD. WTF do these people think we're going to do with his prescription dog food??? SNORT IT? They are ludicrous and I called my old vet in Occidental - (I miss and love those women that cared for my boy) - they even thought they were insane to have that power stance against feeding a dog his prescribed food. So now they are emailing me a prescription so I can order it directly from the website of the dog food provider. Animal Samaritans don't give a **** about the animal or the owner. 0/5* I'll miss Amanda but I'm never going there again. CRUEL. Like I had a fake doctor in Sonoma prescribing my dog heroin or some other dangerous stuff. F-in psychotic behavior over there - she literally looked and saw he was cleared for the food and said, "We have to assess that here, sorry." Get this - I called later to complain and they literally hung up the phone on me when I asked for a supervisor. They aren't going to help your dog. Cats have nine lives so maybe you'll have better luck with felines. But I recommend keeping all dogs away. A Samaritan is someone that stops and helps. False advertising to the fullest. They not only sent me away, but they hung up on me when I was begging for food I would pay for my sweet senior dog that doesn't deserve this. read more

I called them to make an appointment for my chihuahua dog who needed to be peacefully put to rest as she was experiencing significant seizures and unable to walk; however, they refused to help my dog and make an appointment with us and just referred us to another facility. I called them right when they opened in the morning. I was stunned they refused to help when it would have taken only 15 minutes to help my fur-baby in her time of need and they also advertise they will help animals during these moments of crisis. This is not true! I will never promote this business due to their lack of support for my family in this critical time. read more

Girl had major itchies. Many vets do not accommodate same day appointments. Was able to get her in same day for an allergy shot. When they called us into waiting room the shot was ready. Didn't have to drag her to the back. Shot done and out the door. Friendly vet tech. What more could you ask for?! read more

The receptionists that answer the phone are rude and act like they are doing buoy a favor just answering the phone. I've called several times to get appointments and each time they tell me that my pet can't be seen for six weeks or more, then act like they would rather I didn't make an appointment... all the while a snide attitude. Dr Albert is wonderful, I'm not sure if she still works there as I haven't been able to secure an appointment since before COVID. Made an appointment with them the same day my dog started showing signs of parvo. They asked us to leave the dog outside the clinic, so they could come out and swab him to test for parvo. It took them about 8-10 minutes to get the results. Our dog had parvo. We had to carry him in, so we wouldn't contaminate the whole clinic. From the test outside, to the check up inside, the vet explaining parvo and options of treatments, the medication bags, showing us how to administer his shots, his pill cocktail directions, payment, and getting into the car... it was about a 3 hour visit. We paid a little over $100 for the parvo test and checkup. $544 for 4 days of meds (this probably varies on the weight of your fur baby... mine is an 80 pound baby). We have to go back in 2 days to get two more IV fluid bags, for another $400+.... I would recommend them for vaccines, general checkups, and that lot. The whole process was a slow one. We were basically quarantined into the small exam room the whole time. Which I understand they don't want their other fur patients contracting it. read more

I recently had my puppy "treated " for parvo here. We initially went in on a Friday and were advised to try a canine parvovirus monoclonal antibody paired with supportive treatment.We noticed she needed extra care and medicine as she was not looking any better after two days of the treatment , we called to have the earliest possible appointment on Monday morning. We arrived and checked in but we're told to wait outside until the doctor was ready for us as she was " on her way and almost here ". We waited in their parking lot with a very very sick puppy until about 12 PM but of course the first thing they collected was the payment for the visit.We went in multiple times and someone came out to finally tell us that another dog had came in who was " sicker" than ours And required all the attention. How did they know how bad our puppy was if the doctor never came out to examine her ??!? We only had been asked questions by a tech who we stressed the importance of being seen ASAP. We were told we could wait until the vet was finished but they didn't know if it would be soon so it be best to leave and come back at one. At that point having our dehydrated puppy in the sun was not helping so we went home to try and keep her hydrated. Our puppy only got worse so it wasn't until I called very angry and told them her gums were white that they finally decided she was critical enough to be seen. We rushed over and even then had to chase them down to listen to us. They took her in and examined her only for the vet to call very rudely and tell us she was going to die and needed hospitalization ASAP as she was depressed, hypothermic and dehydrated. Given our situation you would expect a firm but most importantly compassionate delivery, but instead we got an inhumane vet.They said they could hook her up to fluids so she would stay hydrated until we found a hospital but then told us to wait and just take her. They instructed us to wait on the side of building and they would take her out, again they took YEARS. My brother opened the door only to find our extremely sick puppy in a crate ON THE FLOOR with no blanket. What kind of clinic is this ??? After being ignored all day by this clinic, we decided to head for the hospital. Thanks to the horrible treatment we received our puppy died on our way. I don't understand why they promise to care for our animals and then ignore us. I am so very upset and hurt by what was done to my family. read more

I had wrote a comment on google reviews two or three weeks ago; about an issue where me and my mom took our cat to her check out appointment. The doctor was out of work at the time and no one call to cancel our appointment. My mom protested and one of the staff, a lady with glasses, got defensive and spoke back to my mom in a cold tone. I don't why my comment was erase. That's okay cuz we found another place in which we were treated better. Rude customer service over the phone. I called due to finding a tick on my dog. After picking him up from being fixed with Animal Samaritans, after adopting him from Coachella Valley Animal Campus. I just wanted to know if I should be worried and get him checked and maybe blood work done. After a run around of them telling me the shelter shouldn't of done this and that and some craziness and that I can find a variety of information on the internet and can check there. This place is closed during the Pandemic. Forcing other hospitals to vaccinate THEIR client's pets, when we are supposed to be practicing distancing. This place is a glorified vaccine clinic and WILL NOT see your pet if they have an issue or problem. This clinic is a joke and should not be in business. The way they turn people away and recommend owners to walk in to other clinics is absurd. This place is a mess. Customer service is garbage with rude women working the front desk, over paid minimum wage skill less workers. We showed up early for our appointment, it's now 30 minutes past our time and we are still waiting. Check your bill before you pay they try to charge for services that were not in the contract we signed. And added services that were not discussed. This place is running a scam. If you can avoid coming here do it. Nothing worse than paying for shit service to people who don't care. Won't be seeing me again here. I would like to say that Lupe tried to help me. I showed up early 2hrs early for my appt..Lupe said wait and we will get u right in? I waited 2 hours, I was steaming, I swore and said the f word . Never at the staff but at waiting so fing long. Well this tough guy Tom the CEO came into the exam room, tried to intimidate me by standing right in my face, I had to tell him to back the f up. He literally was on top of me, All I wanted was a depo shot for my 12 year old lab hip displacement. He is more concerned about his feelings than animals well being. I said many times give him a shot and we will be gone. He was such a jerk off, he asked me to leave because I started video taping him in the exam room, so he got really nervous. So I went out front for a refund, he went outside to fight me in front of all his staff, children, pets and others. He said to me u want me to push or hit u dont u, who acts like that, especially a CEO. I will be filing a suit against him and the business. I don't appreciate being lied to. I scheduled an appointment to get my perfectly healthy 1.5-yr old Dachshund's anal glandes expressed ($42.00), which they could not do without first getting a full exam ($56.00). He's never been seen there, this is perfectly understandable. What I don't appreciate is not allowing me to observe in the exam room "due to Covid". I asked politely to get approval from the Vet as my pup is incredibly anxious, the answer was No due to Covid safety. Imagine my shock when I saw a customer go in the back to accompany his pup! I asked the Vet myself when she was finished doing the exam...full nose poking out of her mask - still a firm no! Because she wasn't even wearing her mask properly I didn't see why she would mind. She pointed out the CEO (Tom Snyder) and suggested I speak to him. She snapped at me twice and walked away. After asking and waiting until Mr. Snyder was finished with his conversation (maskless himself), he wouldn't even address me. I was approached by the Manager, Justine Ziembo. Again, due to their Covid safely protocols I cannot be in the exam room. I can only observe with a vaccine or anal gland expression - the exact reason why I was there! She gave me permission. Because I had already asked the Vet Nancy Carlson twice she denied my request. I was told then by Ms. Ziembo that Ms. Carlson will absolutely not give my dog the procedure with me present (even though he was crying in discomfort) and if I don't like it I can leave and go elsewhere. She then went on about the health and safety of their Vets and they cannot risk them getting sick. Listen, I am all about Covid safety! I am triple vaccinated and was the only person in the building wearing an N-95, but you know its not about health and safety when Ms. Carlson was showing her full nose the entire time and Mr. Snyder and Linda were maskless at one point in the building. I cannot bring myself to call Ms. Carlson Doctor as she doesn't understand how masks work while she is in the main lobby and sitting 2-feet away from my face. Because my dog is anxious I saw the tech leave the room to go collect something - she told me it was calm spray...they did not tell me they were going to use this and I did not give them permission. My dog was subdued for over an hour after his appointment! I also observed when she left the room, she left him in his open crate on the chair unattended! He is an anxious Dachshund, long back, short legs. If he jumped he would have broken his legs or back! How could they leave a dog up high unattended!? I suppose this is why (despite the whole Country being opened up) they don't allow us to be present. Leaving our dogs unattended and giving them supplements without permission. Lawsuit waiting to happen. I left in tears. And no, I do not know if I even got what I paid for. read more

I knew I should have recognized the red flags when I saw them. Staff was rude as hell Over the phone (Lupe) when I called more than 2x . She was no help and half ass answered my questions . when time for my appointment came around I did not receive a confirmation text like they said I would get , and they told me to drop off the dog at 7:30. When I got to the place, staff was rude and they were working stupidly slow, what's the point of an appointment if theyre gonna have you waiting there for over an hour ? Bottom line , I do NOT recommend this place and their customer service SUCKS. read more

I have to say that I used to love coming here and always took my dog here for vaccinations but since the pandemic things have taken a turn for the worse. I have called twice now to make appointments and the system they have leaves you on hold for at least an hour with some excruciating music to boot and and annoying announcer who tells you how far back you are in "the que" every minute. Makes you wanna pound your head against the wall just to make it stop! The first time I called I waited at least 45 minutes just to have the call disconnect right before it was my turn so I call back and of course I am last in line behind 15 other callers!!! They must have only one person manning the phones because it literally takes more than an hour of holding to talk with someone. Why they refuse to join the modern world and do call backs we will never know!??? Then when you FINALLY get to speak to someone they are rude AF... BOTH times when I finally got through to an actual person after an hour of mind numbing hold music they are curt, unpleasant and seem to have no problem holding back the contempt in their voice for having to deal with you and your issue/questions. This is the last time I will ever call them, Banning is a bit of a drive just for vaccines but well worth it from here on out! read more

Today, I visited for the first time. Cookie Dog, my constant companion of 12 years... I discovered a swollen lymph node on her throat. It was new....and had gotten bigger in just a few days. I have taken my old girls to VCA in Rancho Mirage since I moved here. Dr. Regnery quickly became my vet of choice. He vanished. Being dissatisfied with the service and prices at VCA, I went looking for him. There he was at AS The caring Doc....lover of dogs... Who explains everything, remembered us. He has done multiple surgeries on the dogs. He does the best stitches that I've ever seen. Meticulously, explaining every issue, with a syringe he took fluid from the node for analysis and blood tests... on the spot. He determined that it was, most likely, just an infection.... A round of antibiotics should be all she needs. What a relief! We're not cured and might need more follow up. I guess what I really like about him is that he does what's right. Making skilled deductions and decisions. He is conservative and never suggests any procedure that isn't necessary. Even tho I would have gladly paid,I respect that fact that he didn't think a 700. dollar biopsy was necessary.... The clinic is state of the art. Built by caring donations of people who love and loved their pets. Much of the equipment has small plaques in memorial of someone's loved pet. Shit... I'm gonna cry... After going through one heat cycle with our puppy, we made the choice to have her spayed. We had heard positive things about Animal Samaritans Clinic for this service. The morning we took our dog, it was very crowded. I think they spay/neuter a LOT of animals every day. We were given very clear pre-op instructions via email and I felt we had a pretty good idea of what to expect. We were called that afternoon to tell us what time to pick up our dog (earlier than expected.) Pick up was easy and they helped to get our dog into the car. Post-op instructions were also clear. The facility is beautiful, the costs were MUCH lower than our regular vet and everyone was professional and friendly. If you are looking to spay/neuter your pet, Animal Samaritans does a great job! read more

Took my Rockefeller here for a neuter. While I was there I decided to do the microchip. I received a free nail clip with the purchase of the microchip. I paid a total of $120 for the neuter, extra medication for the neuter, microchip and nail clip, NOT BAD! I drove from San Diego to Animal Samaritans in Thousand Palms, since it is much cheaper here than in San Diego to get my puppy neutered, plus I have family in the area, so I could kill two birds with one stone. I take my animals to Animal Samaritans on Petland Place for all their medical needs. The costs are significantly lower than the typical veterinary office (most of which are corporate-owned now and care more about profits), the staff is friendly, the wait time has never been too terrible. The entire place is CLEAN - bonus! You can do walk-in for vaccines - easy! Saving $ makes my wallet happy. The low wait time means my animals stress less. read more
