My dog recently tested positive for heartworm. From the first day Dr. Greco and her staff (Rebecca and Amanda) have been nothing but amazing. They took the time to explain what to expect during the very long treatment and were available for questions and support the entire process. Dr. Greco even let me see the worms under the microscope. She was so kind and informative. We are still going through it, and I am so impressed by the loving attention given to my little one by the main care givers -Rebecca and Amanda. Plan ahead and call long before your little one is ready. The spay and neuter process is straight forward, with parts being a bit worrisome. Drop off time is 7am. I arrived at 6:45 and was third in line. If paperwork is done before, it's quick. However, some options are offered without explanation. Since it's online and doesn't have explanation, I didn't select the $109 extra. I did add IV fluids, which I know helps the healing process. I also opted for sedatives, since the body heals faster when it's not in pain and rest is possible. The incision is outstanding. It's small and aligned perfectly. I'm impressed! I was told to expect a call between 1 and 3. If nobody called I was told to show up at 3. I was getting worried with no call. What if something happened? I did select DNR. I headed to pick her up, a bit anxious. I was early, but soon other people, who I saw drop their pet off in the morning, were there and hadn't received a call either. That was a relief. Whew. I waited and they slowly began to bring the pets out, after a vet came out and gave a helpful post-op care speech. At 3:45 my little one came out, looking great. It's been a couple days. She's reading well and healing great. I give high marks. I pulled one star for the worry. A call would have been so appreciated. An "out of surgery and doing well" call would have been such a relief. I was so worried that they were going to tell me something bad happened. Pricing is reasonable, staff is polite, and the place is clean. Parking is ample too. read more

The response from animal Samaritans is comical if it wasn't so devastating. The lab test that they offered would cost me $3,000 and the options for help of paying was financing through another company with high interest rates. Being on disability there was no option, or recommendation for discounted help. Leaving me distraught that I couldn't help my baby. The prescriptions that they offered was one was $80 the other was 45 for 4 days.(Which I found this one at Costco for $30) Their help that they said they offered for the weekend was at the shelter for euthanasia, which I was not permitted to be with him in his passing, which was not at all acceptable. I did see the physician on the following Tuesday, wish they could not do anything for him. And referred back to the original veterinary at Samaritan's. It's a shame that they didn't get back with me on the day that he was so distraught and I knew it was the time for his passing I called it at 10:00 in the morning called again at 12 :00 with no response he passed at 1 :00. In my arms. I hope my baby understands that I did try to do everything I could for him. This will haunt me for the rest of my life, not knowing weather he understood. He was my familiar, animal spirit guide my baby boy. Any further discussions that they want to have with me would not matter they couldn't say anything that would make it better. On the 10th they told me to call on Friday. They would set an appointment. I called on Friday instead I was told there would be no appointment that my established pets would not be served by them because of a misunderstanding with front office staff if you can get past it, the vets are good, but not really worth it for the stress to get in. Yeah, it's all their way or the highway. I'm taking the highway as they wanted and there is a very good vet that I've been referred to in the town that I live. I'm sure I won't get the hassle that Animal Samaritans has provided as a courtesy. And it was stupid. I had to call in three times for them to talk and say they would not make an appointment. They kept hanging up like they were not professional not even saying goodbye. No, they have a racket going that brand new building it's a racket I believe corrupt because they don't care about the pet parent. I'm a disabled person, but they don't see that I tell them, but they don't see that. I need help and understanding what's going on in their facility, but they can't help that they can't even address it. They won't even speak about it. It's disgusting to see people that say they're caring about animals and have them reject human beings that need a little assistance. no to stressful to get to a vet in that place. They like to only deal with small animals. They're prejudice against dogs that are big so don't go there totally not recommended. The nastiness has been talked about several times in the dog park in the town that I live in. read more

I have been going to this place since early 2000's but I'm done. Hard to get an appointment, takes forever to get customer service on the phone to even try and make an appointment. Half the time you have to take even more time and call back on a Friday to make an appointment based on what vet will be where... I just tried to make a wellness appointment and update on shots etc and I waited over 15 minutes on hold to even talk with someone.... Then got the story of calling back on Friday to see make an appointment. I have put up with this poor customer service for years and not any more... I called the PS Animal Hospital, talked with a person right away, got an appointment and they were professional and helpful. Looking forward to this new clinic. read more

Animal Samaritan's neutered our dog Tucker on March 3rd. After we got Tucker home, we noticed he was dripping blood. I called Animal Samaritan's to see if we should bring Tucker back. This was at 3:00 and I knew they closed at 4:30. I wanted to bring him back while they were still open. I was told this was normal and not to worry. At 8:00 pm Tucker was still dripping blood. I took him to VEG ER. He would have lost a lot of blood overnight His vet costs were $4200. Animal Samaritan's refused to take any responsibility. Their post-operative care was negligent. read more

The people are kind, but if you are wise look at the average of all reviews. All I needed was Antibiotics for my pup, and they were trying to have me pay $700 out the door. I then got 10 doses of an antibiotics for a pretty extreme infection. Then after a week when symptoms did not improve I asked for a refill and they had the audacity to say I needed to bring the dog back in. To require an additional triage on the dog for a refill of amoxicillin is deviant intent. It makes sense seeing over $15,000 dollars in gold on the Vet I talked too. They prioritize their profit over the treatment of animals. Abhorrent behavior, abysmal medical treatment, but at least I got smiles while it happened to us. Also, please spare me the "we are truly sorry..." You don't need to respond to this with excuses veiled by a superficial apology. read more

The veterinarian and staff are second to none, and my dogs & I appreciate them immensely. Two things that are significant negatives however: * it can take quite a long time to get an appointment; and * they changed the procedure to one where pet parents are not allowed to be with their pets during examination. In the past, I always found the ability to have a conversation during the exam to be very valuable. It allows me to expand on issues the vet brings up and get educated on things like, for example, how to properly clean out a canine ear that's infected. On balance, I'm still happy with AnSam and will continue taking my dogs there. read more

The Oncology Dept at Animal Samaritans is top notch and so is Dr. Baldanza and his staff Stacie, Samantha the front desk office everyone you interact with there. I lost my beloved Malitipoo who was 8yrs young to a lung mass and from the initial meeting in Jan 2025 with Dr. Baldanza he gives you 100% of his time, answers all your questions before you even ask and is relatable since he owns dogs and lost a dog to cancer. His educational background is outstanding so you're getting the best care and you leave feeling that you received his full attention, you were heard and understood. So important going thru such unfortunate circumstances and having to make choices. Even thou I chose to take the palliative route, I didn't want my baby to suffer and Dr. Baldanza along with Stacie were there all the way for the remaining months I had left prescribing meds to help with pain and his coughing yet he was able to enjoy life with daily walks and filling his belly with food. I thank his team and him for their support up until the time I needed to make a decision to end his suffering and Stacie was so supportive! She is awesome! Concerned about me driving since I was so upset knowing I was heartbroken and had to take Bentley in to be put down. I can't recommend A.S. enough and not only for what they did up to this point give me great days with Bentley, but they made sure I was able to hold him in his last moments they had his name with a heart in the room and a blanket I can wrap him in as I held him. Giving me time before with him and being so gentle and caring. The doc on staff that day and even the staff in front were great! The cremation pkg is really impressive with a paw print, lock of hair,certificate and other useful info for griefing. I choose a beautiful carved rosewood box.It came beautifully packaged - Just wow! I highly recommend them 100% and today I received a surprise sympathy card with each handwritten notes about Bentley and signatures from Dr. Baldanza, Stacie and Samantha. This is what you want when you have a love so strong no one else understands, but they get you, support you and are there for you. I miss my Bentley and no other pet will replace him, but I have so much love to give that I am searching now for another one as special as him and when I do, I will be heading back for A.S' docs to treat him at their location. read more

Excellent Veterinary Ophthalmic Specialty Care My dog's wonderful vet, Dr. Peter Henein at Palm Springs Animal Hospital, referred us to Dr. Pamela Ko (at Animal Samaritans) for specialty ophthalmology care. Dr. Ko was fantastic. She took the time to thoroughly explain what was going on with Gracie's eye and patiently answered all my questions. She performed a complete exam, which included advanced diagnostic tests to ensure we understood the underlying issue. The level of expertise was evident, and much appreciated. I highly recommend Dr. Ko if your pet has an eye issue. We are so fortunate to have such great veterinarians here in the Desert. read more

Our dog Cayce developed a malignant sarcoma in her hind leg. After consultation with Dr. Baldanza, the oncologist, she underwent an amputation of her leg as the only viable option. We were extremely pleased with the level of a care provided by the entire Animal Samaritans staff: Dr. Baldanza (oncologist), Dr. Rick (chief medical officer), Dr. Berenfeld (the surgeon), and all of the AS veterinary technicians. They were extremely well qualified, and were very caring and responsive to our and Cayce's needs. They were immediately available to help us when it appeared that Cayce was having some problems recovering from the surgery. We would recommend Animal Samaritans without hesitation. read more

I recently had my dog spayed at the Thousand Palms location. The entire process from beginning to the end was pleasant. The staff is very nice and reassuring. They charge what the procedure costs and nothing more which is so refreshing. They took such great care of my dog! She is a big breed too so I had some anxiety but she came out great. A couple of days after the surgery my dog was back to her old self. I would absolutely return to this location for future procedures. read more

I had to take a moment to thank Dr Ko, their ophthalmology specialist. I recently lost my Romeo suddenly last week, he had turned 16 in October. In the summer 2023 he saw Dr Ko after his eye wasn't getting better after two vet visits. Dr Ko was so angry at his previous care and hoped her treatment would save his eye as he was too old for surgery. Well she prescribed 4 meds plus eye drops even one to save his good eye from getting an ulcer. It was a rough 6 weeks as I had to get up in the middle of the night to give him the every 8 hr meds. I made a spreadsheet to keep track and showed her at his next visit. I must say she was impressed. By that next visit Romeo got much better she saved his eye and now I'm more appreciative than ever that he spent his remaining months with good eyes, well he was mostly blind but he wasn't in pain. I'm just so grateful to Dr Ko and her amazing knowledge and kindness. read more

*0 STARS* This is one time I honest to God wish I could leave a zero star review. If you need animal care, I would highly suggest you not use animal Samaritans on Jackson Street. I took my dog in just to have them help me remove a bandage off of his leg. They wouldn't touch him without me for paying over $100 just to help me remove a bandage because he wasn't letting me help him at home. It is a simple bandage removal. There's nothing hard about it. He just won't let me do it by myself so I asked for assistance.  I was completely expecting them to just come out. I would hold him and they would do it, but they wanted to bring him in. Do a complete check on him so they can charge me more money. The vet tech was just gonna to do it out in the parking lot in my truck.  He stopped and says wait a minute let me go. Ask somebody. I'm guessing ask if he can do free work. I don't know, but then then he came back out and said let me take him in.  The outcome is I left with the bandage still on my dog's foot because I'm not paying 100 and something dollars just to have them help me take a bandage off it takes two seconds. Again I would highly suggest you do not go to animal Samaritans on Jackson Street 42150 Jackson St., #106, Indio, CA 92203.  Animal samaritans.org. All I can say is wow just wow!!! We went in. That's when that person came back from the back and motioned for the receptionist to come back there and when she came back, she said I'm gonna put you in the system. Right then in there, I knew it was gonna be a big ordeal so I said let me just have my dog and I will go. Furthermore, "it was tight" as they put it because I had just tried to remove it and he resisted, never growled. Never nothing. He just resisted, like any animal would do. So you saying that it was really tight and about to cut off circulation is a completely false narrative. Furthermore, you weren't there so you have no idea what transpired. They WERE trying to convey that it was more than it really was and the people I took him to after I left your place conveyed the same thing about your company especially this facility. You are so so wrong about not wanting to up charge because that's EXACTLY what they were trying to do. Again, the other facility was saying the same thing about your company, so if you think it's just my opinion, I have a medical experts opinion also. As a matter of fact, that medical professional also said they were not supposed to turn me away for any reason, our profession just does not do that. I understand you're trying to keep the Publix perception of your business as a decent company, but I want all who reads this to know that you people just try to upsell and take as much money as you can from every client. Animal Samaritans has been very good for me and my puppies in the past. It is possible to get a same-day appointment at their Urgent Care, and the Veterinarians are always excellent. However, their pricing on medications is completely unethical. I was prescribed an anti-inflammatory and pain reliever for my Staffie. 10 pills at 100mg dosage. Online with Chewy.com this prescription would cost me $6.40. Animal Samaritans charged me $51.00!!! That is an 800% increase!! I understand they are also an SPCA and need funds, and they are expanding their facility with a multi-million dollar renovation, but to overcharge and gouge their clients by this kind of pricing is usury, and completely horrific. I would understand even 15-20% overcharge, but 800%?!!! REALLY?!!!! read more

I wanted to thank Aminal Samaritans, and in particular, Dr. Baldanza and his oncology team. Our 14 year old dachshund was feeling listless and not hungry. Doctors found a cancerous tumor on her spleen that was a fast growing type that is almost always fatal. We were referred to Dr. Baldanza, who has been great. He is very knowledgeable and devised a treatment plan for our Lucy, with an emphasis on slowing down the spread of cancer coupled with allowing her to still have a great life w/o pain or suffering . That was 4 months ago and today Lucy finished her 4th round of chemo. She is doing great and her last ultrasound showed no signs of new or growing cancer. We know her days are numbered but everyone we talked to said 3 months and we are now on our 4th month and she is going strong. Every extra day with her is a treat and we thank Dr. Baldanza and his crew for that. read more

We took our pup there for treatment of a mast cell tumor. He had already had his leg amputated and we needed to continue with chemotherapy. Dr. Baldanza was amazingly compassionate and also knowledgeable. He explained all treatment decisions to us and allowed us to make the decisions collaboratively. His vet tech assistant, Shelley, was so sweet and knowledgeable as well. It got to the point where it was time for Timmy to cross the Rainbow Bridge. Again, they were compassionate, knowledgeable and very capable. We can't recommend them highly enough. read more

I recently set up an appointment for deep canal ear cleaning with sedation for my dog. I have scheduled this procedure many times over the years at Animal Samaritans in thousand palms and had always received good service, empathy, and good care. However, that ended yesterday morning. When setting up this appointment, I was very clear that due to the necessity of the deep canal ear cleaning and the level of pain my dog was in, that sedation was necessary. Our dog arrived for his appointment at the clinic yesterday (10/18/24) at 8:30am and was taken to the back. My partner was asked to wait, which was odd since I had booked a procedure that required our dog to be sedated. After a few minutes, the doctor/ technician then proceeded to try to upsell several other treatments that our dog did not need. My partner declined the extra procedures and they then brought our dog back out to my partner stating our dog's ears had been deep cleaned. They then said our dog needed two types of medication. My partner purchased them. When I called to inquire why the correct procedure had not been done, Dr. Clumhouse told me to drive our dog back to the clinic (35 min) and they would sedate him and do the correct cleaning procedure I had originally booked. After speaking to the doctor, I drove back to the clinic at which time I was told it would be an additional $240 for the correct procedure. My dog was in pain and I signed the paperwork to get the procedure done.. I requested to be reimbursed for the incorrect medication given to my dog 2 hours previously for the incorrect procedure performed. After this request, Dr. Clumhouse took me into one of the private rooms and said, "We will not reimburse you. Your husband was happy with what we did and it sounds like a communication problem between you and him". Dr. Clumhouse then stated, "We don't need your business here" and told me to leave. Wow! At this point it was clear that the doctor did not care that he performed the incorrect procedure, wasted my time, my gas to drive there and my money for unnecessary medication and not performing the procedure I scheduled for my dog. When I stated that I will be leaving a bad review, he then threatened to sue me if I did. Due to Dr. Clubhouse's poor treatment of my dog, threatening me, and his general lack of empathy, we will never return to Animal Samaritans or donate to them again. Note: several hours later, and without notifying me themselves, one of the medications was refunded to my credit card. read more

Terrible experience! The Right hand does not know what the Left hand is doing at this place. I called on Friday & was ASSURED by Bruce, as per Shirley the Administratior that if I came in Saturday I could pick up a cute kitten named Kennedy who was being fixed....no I did not need to fill out an Application until I came in Saturday ......fast forward to Saturday A.M. & when I pulled up @ 10 a.m. with cat carrier in hand,, as per my instructions from Bruce/Shirley to pick up my kitten there was a sign on the door that said CLOSED? 'due to being short staffed' Whaaaaaaat? .....' While I am waiting for Shirley to come out to plead my case...TWO OTHER COUPLES pull in & then it gets worse... we all discover we are all there to adopt the SAME KITTY named KENNEDY. Paulette, a volunteer at the front desk was downright nasty to me because I had a 'slip of the tongue' & said I thought the policy was 'First come first serve' when I meant the opposite.. .Paulette launched into berating me full force..... way out of line. Then Shirley (who was very nice compared to nasty Paulette) explained not only was there a staff shortage but the computers were down, no medical records, NO adoptions could be done that day anyway....REALLY? AFTER I DROVE AN HOUR TO GET THERE? Realizing this place is a 3-ring clown circus....I WALKED...sadly without my kitten. THAT'S IT FOR ME....As they say on Shark Tank...'I AM OUT' As a retired physician,, I had planned not not only to donate but also volunteer. This is the 6th time I have tried to adopt a cat or kitten & someone gets there before me or some other miscommunication occurs. I will go to a Breeder next time..... Adopting a kitten who needs a good home should not be this difficult! Post Note: I went to another shelter later that day & as soon as I mentioned the bad experience I had just had @ Animal Samaritans they rolled their eyes & said it wasn't the first time they have heard negative comments about the place AND YES they have a staffing problem (due to disorganized management) which explains the 'CLOSED due to lack of volunteers' sign on front door. It's been my dogs vet since 2 years ago. I love the customer service, please do keep up like that because many other vets around here are not good. I always catch good vibes from there, just a couple days ago it was my first time going during COVID and I am very proud to say that, you guys are killing it ! At all times, they communicated with me, over the phone when I arrived, and the vet assistants & techs were coming in & out to call out the pet names. Very organized, you can tell they are putting effort to do their best during difficult and busy times. Not only that but prices are good compared to other Vets in The Valley.
