I am a first responder and former military. I had the mindset that skin care was a luxury and a feminine thing. After many years being out on the field and exposed to the elements, and stress from the job, my skin took a beating. One of my lady friends told me that men have skin too and therefore should take care of their skin. Well I can't argue with that. I decided to give Anita B Spa a try because 2 of my friends rave about them and have been going there for skin care for a long time. I did not know what to expect. When I arrived, I was greeted by Anita Chan, who owns the business. She was very friendly and supportive. There was a procedure that hurt so much but felt so good and left my pores cleared. I cried a little. When the session was done, my face felt refreshed. The ambience was relaxing and the prices were fair. I decided to keep going. Btw both Redwood City and San Francisco locations were great and finding parking wasn't too difficult. I can't wait to see what Anita has in store for her Redwood City location. After 6 months of visiting Anita B Spa and Anita B Well, my coworkers tell me I am as ugly as ever, but my skin looks great. They commented how it looks moisturized and glowing. My neighbor asked my younger sister if I was her younger brother. I am glad I set aside my misgivings and visited Anita B Spa. While they can't perform miracles, one thing is for sure, they can make one's skin healthy and glowing. I got "nanobrows" with Anita two years ago. The lines were huge (like a sharpie) and the brows were way too close together. When I went in for my touch up, even she seemed surprised at how dark and large the strokes still were. She said I shouldn't worry, they'd fade in two-ish years. I spent two years feeling so embarrassed and covering up the inner corners with foundation. I recently sought out saline removal and my technician was appalled at Anita's work: she couldn't believe how large the strokes were, how dark and unnecessarily DEEP the ink was placed, and how close together she made my brows for no reason. The saline removal also proved she used concentrated dark ink only on my inner brows, as the pigment pulled super heavy there (but no where else) which my removal tech said is bizarre. My removal tech even said "it seems like she was trying to make you look bad". I don't think that was Anita's intention, but I do think she should stop providing this service. It was unethical to tell me these would be temporary, that they would fade, and that the strokes would be whisper-thin. I currently have saline scars on my face and I look like a crazy person as I go through this humiliating removal process. Anita never once called out or acknowledged the poor work, just happily took my money even though I could tell she knew she did a bad job when I went in for touch up. I also had a spray tan at this salon a few years prior and the technician was super rude. I tried to give this spot so many chances, but the psychological distress of getting a botched permanent tattoo on my face that she claimed would fade in two years is a 0/5 star experience. read more

She is so knowledgeable, professional, extremely thorough with extractions and microdermabrasion sessions, gives the most amazing facial massages incorporated with pressure points (or her hands are just *magic* ha!) because my sinuses feel clear afterwards! AMAZING. I always leave my facial appointments feeling lighter, stress free, face feels squeaky clean & super hydrated, and relaxed. Facials are a treat to have, but they are definitely important to maintain healthy skin and overall well being. My facials are always CONSISTENTLY good. I am a loyal client and won't go anywhere else for a facial because once I find a good spot, I will always stick with them. I also will drive all the way from east bay just for my facial here. Randomly found Anita B Spa this weekend when I was searching the internet for facials and spas nearby. Booked a custom facial the night before and was able to get an appointment the next day! Came in the morning around 10am and was met by Elizabeth. I wanted a focus on extractions and definitely got every pore scrutinized and extracted. I probably lost 5 lbs of stuff from my face. I went for a clinical facial and this is my face 4 days after treatment. Redness and breakout everywhere - cheeks, forehead. I explicitly told the person doing my facial that I had breakouts after my first facial at this spa and to take care. Once facial was complete I pointed out that my face was abnormaly red and was brushed off by saying that the redness will go away in a day. To top it, when I wrote to the business that the redness and breakouts continue and my face is burning- they sent me really bad response that we did eveerything correct and it may be because of your post partum hormones despite the fact that I've had clear skin this entire time. I went in to Anita B Spa for a facial. I booked the day before so it was pretty last minute but they accommodated me! The spa is so cute and in a lovely neighborhood in Potrero hill in SF. I really appreciated the free 2 hour parking and easy to find on a weekday when I went! The storefront is so cute and adorable with very cute stylish boutique vibes. I was greeted by my esthetician Jeanete and was very welcoming and offered me tea or water. I was asked to change into this really cute tube top that pink that was super stylish for my facial: it was so cute! Now I want one! Jeanete listened to my concerns about my skin and did a nice customized facial on me based on my skin type because I could not decide between an acne or luxurious one. She communicated all the products she was using on me and why which I liked. The extractions were painful but hey they're extractions and I hadn't had a facial in a couple years so yeah lots of funk under the skin She also gave me a nice upper body massage around my neck and upper back which I really needed so that was nice too! She also gave me samples to take home which was nice because I had run out of makeup remover on my trip to SF Prices are affordable given its SF and I really enjoyed my experience! This review is solely for a lash lift. The staff were friendly when they greeted me, offered me a beverage, and the technician was pleasant throughout the service. It's the outcome of the lash lift that the review is focused on. I'm really sad to write this review, but I hope others can learn from my experience before going through a similar one themselves. I had a lash lift today and $70 later I left with my lashes uneven and barely curled. Certain lashes are slightly lifted and other sections are not at all. I've had many lash lifts over the last 2 years and I've always had fantastic results at the other spa. I've actually never felt so disappointed with a beauty service as I do currently, after this experience. I came home and had a better look at my eyes in the mirror and my lashes look uneven, making my eyes look uneven. On top of that I found extensive amounts of leftover glue on my eyelids that I had to remove at home. I decided to call the spa to speak to someone. I asked for a manager when I called. The woman who answered said she'd be happy to help. I explained how I was feeling and my concerns to her. She offered another lash lift or a discount on another service. I'm not interested in another service at Anita B as this one went so poorly. I explained that I'm feeling super sad as I leave tomorrow for my 30th birthday trip and at this point the woman identified herself as the owner, but still appeared to show little concern for my experience and couldn't provide any explanation for what may have went wrong. I don't feel good writing a negative review on a small business. I really wanted to love my lashes today, especially for this special trip. I went to see Anita back in January for eyebrow micro-blading and was lucky enough to get my second session in March right before shut down. Now entering September, my eyebrows are still looking fantastic. I have received tons of compliments on my eyebrows, even from my MD dermatologist! They look so natural, full and do not overpower my face. Also, Anita is hands down one in a million...she puts you at ease immediately and is so much fun to talk to! I'm not one who has many concerns or questions during procedures, but still she made sure to walk me through each step. She also brought up topics that I wouldn't have thought to ask but the information she provided ended up being helpful once I left. One of my first experiences when moving to San Francisco was getting a facial by Anita. Simply put, it was fantastic! I'm a creature of habit who happens to be very selective (i.e., picky) so I was so grateful to find a skilled skin person, at a soothing spa, for my facial needs without having to look around too much. A little background on my skin, I have that "sun-kissed", olive complexion (i.e., a lot of sun damage from not wearing enough sunscreen) from being of mixed ethnicity. I also struggle with deep ingrown hairs on occasion that react with a strong inflammatory response when being extracted by an unskilled hand. Anita's extractions left no marks and cleared all my ingrowns and blemishes like a magic eraser! I also really liked the products used to perform the facial. It's common for my eyes to burn from the fumes of some products and I didn't experience any discomfort whatsoever with whatever is used at the spa. I would highly recommend the spa if you are looking for skilled extractions, refreshing and cleansing facials coupled with an awesome face/head/neck massage! read more

Are you the type of girl that wants to looked snatched, but in a way that makes you seem less high-maintenance than you really are? Me too! I've found the easiest way to do this is with some long-ass doll lashes. In an attempt to save money, I've been going with that au natural look and trying to tell myself that a good mascara is a replacement for a lash lift. Gruh. It is not. For me, lifts are perfect because my round face can't handle the drama and fierceness of extensions. I recently moved into the city from the Bay Area 'burbs. With a wedding coming up, I needed to find a place closer to where I lived/worked to get my face ready for photos. Behold, Anita B Spa! The only issue I had was that the spa is uphill from my apartment--meaning I arrived in a sweaty mess. Luckily, everyone was super nice upon welcome and they offered me a drink while I filled out consent and preference forms. I really liked that they asked me if I was in a chatty mood and what sort of music I'd like to listen to. It's a small gesture, but deeply appreciated. Booking only 4 days before my appointment using their online system, I received a Keratin Lash Lift from Christina. It was $70 (without tip, you can add tip to your card payment)--which I found comparable to other lash lifts in the area (other than Beauty Queen in South City, which is ~$50/60 without tip). What I didn't anticipate was how comfortable the spa would be and how meticulous Christina was with my lashes. This is my 3rd time getting a lift (even though this is my first time at Anita B) so I liked when she asked my experience with lifts and how I liked them done. This might be weird to say since I'm not exactly watching her during the process, but while I was laying there, I felt like she inspected each of my individual lash hairs multiple times to make sure the treatment was done correctly. When she first showed me my face, I was surprised by how good my lashes looked! A week later and I still can't stop looking at my lashes when I look in the mirror (narcissistic, I know). I used to see Anita for lash lifts when she was a one-woman shop on her own. She since moved to Potrero Hill, which was a bit of a trek for me so I started going to someone else closer to my house. The other place I went to had similar pricing, but they did more of a 'lash perm' vs. 'lash lift' for me. I decided to come back and drive across town to Anita B Spa. I got the Keratin eyelash lift. I wanted to really love it- but my right eyelash didn't lift as much as my left did. If it did, then this would have been 5 stars. I love how dramatic it looks with mascara and how cute my eyelashes look when I wake up in the morning. The second thing I noticed is the odor from the products used. During the process it smelled like when my sister used to perm her hair in the 90's. Afterwards, it just smells like bad breath. I don't know how else to describe it- it wasn't a pleasant smell. I was referred to Anita by my friend as I was telling her I was looking for a new esthetician. I have been going to Anita for facials since 2009 and I'm so glad I can finally tell people how GREAT she is! Anita is very knowledgeable about skin and provides tips on how to take better care of my skin. She really takes takes the time to educate her clients and answer any questions that may arise. As I have sensitive/dry skin, I'm always hesitant to try something new on my own. However, I trust Anita's recommendations on products. I like that she doesn't push her clients to buy her products just to make a sale. I have definitely seen a tremendous improvement on my face. My skin always feels so soft and hydrated after each visit with her. I only wish it felt that way everyday. However, I always look forward to my appointments and I LOVE her shoulder massages! Had a wonderful facial experience at Anita B Spa yesterday. Jeanete was my esthetician, and she was so warm, friendly and considerate. I went in because I had cystic acne on my chin that was proving very difficult to get rid of. I went in for extractions, and she gave me an Express facial which took about 20 minutes. She was very mindful of using products that would work well with my (VERY) sensitive skin -- and kept me informed all the way along about what was being used. She also gave me a clay & sulfur spot treatment to use on my chin overnight. It's healing so quickly! (Literally overnight) and my face feels so fresh, and my skin is glowing today. I will definitely be going back! I love that they customize the products they use for your skin type, and that they were so mindful of my sensitivity to Salicylic acid. This review is for Tina - I would follow this girl anywhere! Came to Tina initially for eyelash extensions based off a friend's recommendation. I've had extensions done by a dozen different places before in SF but no one even comes close to Tina. Not sure what magic she does, but her extensions last wayyy longer and look so much better. I have sparse eyelashes to begin with but Tina always takes the extra time to do whatever she can to make my lashes look as full as possible. Also, what I appreciate most is the time she takes to listen to what you want - sometimes for work conferences I want it to look more natural and other times if I'm going on vacation, I want them more dramatic and she always nails that and everything in between. + Last week I decided to take a break from extensions and Tina recommended I try out lash lifts! It's been a full week now and it still looks amazing and curly - definitely a less dramatic look compared to extensions but I am in love given how easy and low maintenance the process is. read more

This review is long overdue.... I've been seeing Anita for facials for 6+ years (at different locations before she opened her own place). She does an excellent job with my skin each time. I used to have very oily skin and frequent breakouts. Even tried rentin-a for awhile but it didn't help. Then it all cleared up after a few treatments with Anita. I try to go every 6 weeks or so, but my skin is in such a better place now that even when I can't make it in for a few months, it's never even close to as bad as before. I had some questions and the turnaround time was really quick. 2. Ambiance is clean, modern and smells nice. It's a small spa but I like the home-y/neighborhood feel compared to a bigger spa like Burke Williams. 3. Prices for services are pretty fair and reasonable. I had a customized facial with Tina and it was amazing! The massage feels so good and refreshing. I actually felt like my face was loosened up and there was much more circulation. I have had persistent problem skin since I was a teenager (dry, oily, prone to acne, acne scarring, etc.) and I have tried many treatments over time to improve my skin but nothing has stuck as an effective, long-term solution. I decided to give Anita a try on referral from my friend. During my initial consultation, Anita kicked things off by familiarizing herself with my skin... history of issues and treatment, environments that my skin is exposed to, my lifestyle, etc. After the initial assessment, she started my clinical facial treatment, which she customized to my skin type and skin needs. She was very patient and knowledgable, explaining each step of the treatment and what problems each was meant to address. At the end of the 75 minutes, my skin felt refreshed and glowing and I also walked away with a better understanding of my skin and tips to get the most out of my routine. A few months later I went for a repeat visit and I had yet another positive experience, consistent with the last. From then on, I started going to her regularly. What I appreciate most about Anita, aside from a consistently great customer experience and her expertise, is that she truly cares about you and your skin. She has never tried to sell me on products and doesn't make decisions or give advice based on the bottom line. In fact, she first helped advise me on what products I already had that would continue to be the best for my skin and, over time--and only when she had a better understanding of my skin--did we start incorporating new products. She is also not satisfied unless you are. When one product didn't work as well with my skin's needs, I brought the product back and she offered me a refund for the unused portion. Fast forward to today, I have been going to Anita for almost two years. With her help building a customized skin regimen (adjusting where needed) and being disciplined around adhering to the regimen, I have seen my skin get to a very healthy state and I could not be more thrilled with the results. I was so excited to have this place open up in the neighborhood. I had a lash lift here with Ria several months ago. Ria is super sweet with a calming demeanor. Unfortunately, it didn't take and lasted around 2 weeks. When at the end of the session I asked if the one side that was slightly lifted but not curled would curl more, she said she didn't know. I just had the best facial experience at this spa. I've been on a search for a spa that delivers and I think I found it! There were definitely lots of facial massaging and I noticed the difference before and after my facial. My face feels tighter, looks more lifted, and clearer bc of the extractions. The facial and my esthetician Gabby surely met, if not exceeded, my expectations. She was very pleasant and knowledgeable and answered my multiple questions with ease.
