I'm in town from LA visiting friends who recently moved here--and let me tell you, they know good food. Ordering Anita's on DoorDash was such a thoughtful "welcome" gesture. Everything we had was absolutely fantastic--and incredibly fresh. We went all in: chicken shawarma, tabbouleh, salmon, spinach pie... every dish delivered. The hummus was especially exceptional--smooth, rich, and full of flavor. And the sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts? Easily standout favorites. Food was great! I had the salmon bowl, which consisted of black beans, rice, sweet potatoes, a drizzle of avocado ranch or goddess ranch (I think), garnished with parsley. It has all the flavor and none of the guilt. The waitress was very attentive and made the suggestion to get the salmon bowl. I'm so happy she did. It was filling and delicious. Every time my wife and I are in Ferndale she says how good the food is at Anita's. So I finally made her take me there for dinner. She was right, the food is amazing. I got the mixed grill to try multiple things and it was so much food! The humus is so good. Everything we had, even the roast vegetables was delicious. The restaurant is sort of a mix of hip meets bar meets cafe. A good mix of folks and friendly and quirky staff. The food is great, the drinks are solid and you really should eat here if you are in the area. Another give away about how good it is, is the number of take out orders you see. read more

We have missed Anita's kitchen in Lake Orion so much we drove down this original location in Ferndale last week for lunch. It was chilly day but sunny and they had heaters so we sat on covered patio which was super delightful. They have benches along the seating area for guests to wait for their tables at a dinner rush which is lovely. We arrived right when restaurant opened but when we left it was packed. Our server Alyssa S was FANTASTIC and super helpful. She brought us tastes of a few beers on tap. I was so thankful because I really didn't like the sour one. I decided on Kittens Ale and it was refreshing and light. The menu is the same as LO had with changing seasonal features. The food was absolutely delicious as always. We ordered our faves: chicken shawarma entree and a side of garlic sauce to go (comes with pita) to eat at home. They changed up their loaded fries with an added homemade queso which was super yummy and I added chicken shawarma meat for protein. Loved it! We stopped in for a weekday lunch on this icy cold day. Paid parking out front on Woodward Ave. using the Ferndale Park app. (2 hr Max). We were warmly greeted by the host as we entered, and were shown to their outer enclosed and heated space which was really comfortable, and not loud. Pita was offered by our server. I had a hot, delicious cup of Crushed Lentil soup. The Lamb Burger served with fresh, hot, crispy Fries was large and flavorful with all its spices. Finished with a beautiful Lebanese Rice Pudding. What a meal topper! Price point is entirely reasonable given the high quality of the meal. Beer, wine, cocktails and craft NA beverages as well as healthy smoothies. What a win! read more

There was a good amount of seating space inside, but I was surprised it was so crowded on a Monday night (a good sign). I appreciate the designated waiting area with benches inside - not everyone was crowding right inside the front door Our food came out quickly once we ordered: - Lamb gyro: at first it looked like it would be dry, but it was just less greasy than others I've had (which is good, and it was well seasoned). There was a good ratio of sauce to filling, i.e. the sauce wasn't oozing everywhere and making a mess. - Falafel: $7 for 4 is a bit steep, especially when they're not bigger than normal. They had a bit of heat to them spice wise, which isn't what I'm used to, but it wasn't overwhelming. Flavor was pretty good. I appreciated the baked and fried options but I decided to just try the traditional fried style. Unfortunately, they were kind of cold when they arrived. - Mujadra: this was a new dish for me! It's rice and lentils seasoned with cumin and topped with caramelized onions. It was a touch on the salty side, but very flavorful and delicious! It also came with a yogurt sauce that was bland (which I don't think it needed anyway) and pickled vegetables which had a very strong flavor and I wasn't a fan of. $8 was pricey for this, but at least it was a generous portion, enough for me to take home for lunch the next day Our server was friendly and came over several times to ask how we were doing and offered to refill my water without me having to ask. I would definitely come back here and try more of the menu, although I'd definitely get the lamb gyro and mujadra again! read more

Very cool ambiance and decor. Excellent, attentive, and friendly service from Ren and Kayla. The food is delicious! The chicken shawarma is packed full and very flavorful. I loved my chicken and black bean bowl off the seasonal menu. The chicken is so tender and perfect. I love the jalapeño salsa. My lavenberry mocktail was very refreshing. The ambiance of the place is cozy with a dark modern aesthetic and the staff is really nice. The food was okay, but not the best Mediterranean inspired food in my opinion. My friend said her chicken shawarma was a bit dry. The seasonal salmon roasted bowl was a bit over cooked too. The flavors were good though. The loaded fries appetizer was really good. Maybe I'll give them another try sometime because my other friend loves this place and had highly recommended it. May 11, 2026 Lunchtime 12ish, I'm in my Detroit hometown from Arizona; for a short time. Izzy was our waitstaff, she was attentive, I requested to have a slow leisurely lunch, which was fine with her. Both our meals were excellent in favor and presentation. But, delivering of each course was too close, it was not as I expected. I have eaten @ Anita's several times whilst residing in Detroit, continue to eat here on my return visit every year in the month of May. I felt we were being rushed unnecessarily. Ambiance was consistent, has not changed in a few years. I would've rated it a 5 STAR...if we had not been rushed to eat...therefore 4 STARS is deserving. read more

Overall, great experience at Anita's! We started off with some apps - all were delicious. The stars were the raw lamb (I forgot what it's called) and the jalapeno hummus. I would come back for these two alone! We also tried the grape leaves with meat which were good but prob wouldn't get again. The tabbouli was pretty standard. Then for entrees, most the table got the lamb gyro was they thought was tasty and filling. I got the mixed plate to try a variety. The chicken was pretty standard. The kefta had a little too much cinnamon and a lil overcooked. The lamb chunks was the standout so I would just go with that next time. Roasted veggies were delish. Pilaf was underwhelming. Service was great though! Oh and dessert! The baklava was not one of my fav renditions but the lemon tart WOW. Get it!! read more

I loved the atmosphere of this place. Trendy but welcoming. It's been here a long time, the excellent food is the reason. I ordered the mediterranean gf entree with mujadra, caramelized onions, hommus, tabbouleh, pickled turnips, and choice of: falafel (baked), and tahini sauce, it was all prepared to perfection. I started out with the lemon lentil soup which was amazing. I had a glass of Pinot Noir and some Malbec, both wines were excellent. Our waitress was super nice and very attentive. We went to Anita's for lunch (again) today. We've been coming here for a few years now and I still have to rave about them. Their food is always so so good! It never disappoints. The manager once again stopped by to make sure everything was ok. Today we had their specials: Our app: Pumpkin humus with olive oil and pumpkin seeds drizzled on top. So good!! (They also have regular, roasted red pepper, and jalapeño humus.) Lunch: The Roasted Bowl - Grilled Salmon with Dill Tahini drizzle,, rice pilaf, black beans (with cinnamon? YUM), roasted sweet potatoes and Brussel sprouts. So so good. The two of us had app/lunch for $64 and both took home enough for dinner. I left holding my to go "treasure"...it was that good. (Unfortunately we'd filled up on the humus but Good for us we get to do it again for dinner.). I Love this place!! read more

I returned with a companion to Anita's recently for a weekday lunch, and we both left happy and full. Be aware that parking can be a challenge here; especially if trying to download and work the app with a credit card.... On this day, the restaurant was just opened and not busy. We were seated in the adjacent, heated space. Know that it can be really (too) warm if you're placed under the heater as we were. We just took off more winter layers though. Paris K was our efficient and knowledgeable server. She offered good meal accompaniment too. Wines by the glass and craft cocktails were interesting and reasonably priced. My companion and i tried a couple and there were all very good. Loved the Lebanese Old Fashion! Anita's serves some of the best tasting Crushed Lentil Soup around. It's thick, slightly lemony and a bit minty. My only wish was that my cup had been served hotter than just lukewarm. The Spinach Pie piece was very good. My companion raved about his seasonal (and recommended by Paris!) Chicken & Black Bean Bowl meal. Tabboulah Salad was a win too! We finished with fresh, hot, decaf coffee and Anita's excellent Rice Pudding with cinnamon and whipped cream. All in all, we will return! read more

Anita's Kitchen is one of my favorite healthy lunch spots downtown. I always order ahead using Toast, and my order is consistently prepared exactly how I ask. My go-to is the Chicken Feta Fattoush Salad with onions, a pepperoncini, and extra sauce--it's always fresh, flavorful, and perfectly satisfying. Highly recommend it for anyone looking for a quick, delicious, and healthy meal! If you have a sweet tooth, I recommend their Banana Bread! read more

Smallish establishment place that has a variety of mediterranean food like hummus, baba gannoush, grape leaves, kabobs, and shawarma. I got a sampler platter than had mujadra, caramelized onions, hummus, tabouli, pickled turnips, and cbaked falafel - so as to sample everything. Wow - was everything good - and a lot to eat! I took some home and it reheated great. You, of course, can just get one entree or salad - but I wanted to try a taste of everything. There is a good selection of basic drinks and mixed drinks. I've been coming to Anita's for a few years, and I've noticed that I come here most often to get takeout after a vacation when I want something quick and a little healthier. I've also dined in quite a few times! Their atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the service is always quick. My usual go-to is the falafel sandwich with a side of pickled veggies for a filling and flavorful meal. I've also recently had the mixed mezza for two, which was great! It had so many different items in it, and was only $40 for two people, which I thought was a great deal. The hummus and garlic dip are also amazing. Regardless of what I get or when I visit, I've never had a bad meal here. My only complaint is that they're not open on Sundays, which is a little inconvenient, but I totally understand that family time is important as well. I'll for sure keep coming back! read more

Today, I met a dear friend there to try the seasonal strawberry spinach salad with goat cheese, almonds, homemade vinegarette dressing salmon and as anticipated it did not disappoint. My colleagues and I were on a break from production. We decided to grab a bite to eat from Anita with it being hot and it was nearby. We ordered take out so it would be easier to pack and go then took seating at the bar. I've been to Anita and found the service exceptional; however, the manager on duty Friday July 11th, 2025 was extremely rude to us about a take out policy that we were never informed about by staff. In trying to honor their policy we asked if we could be seated at a table, to which she rejected entirely and insisted we leave. It was disheartening and highly uncomfortable to experience that in Ferndale of all places. I would strongly suggest another restaurant to dine in. read more

Spent $200 to feed 4 people, AS ADVERTISED, and my food was not good. Almost all of the portions were WAY too small--especially for four people. Paid $7.50 for freshly cut veggies, and got 3 pieces of each vegetable...which I could've bought at the grocery store for much less, and cut much better ‍ The kibbee was $18, and I ordered extra onions. They didn't even fill the whole tray--more like half, which was RIDICULOUS. Ordered the Mixed Mezz, which was also advertised for four people. They gave us two chicken kabobs, two kufta kabobs, four falafels, grape leaves, more meat on the side, a bunch of dry rice, but fresh onions. Also, when you order the pita bread, it's literally the store-bought pita bread that YOU can get from any store. SUCH a disappointment. Anita's kitchen used to be near, (I think), 14 mile and Crooks. It was excellent. The 9 Mile and Woodward has been riding on their coat tail for years. Like a lot of people I've been visiting this restaurant for at least a decade. As others have mentioned, some aspects of the menu have changed. That's not the major issue though. The major issue here is CONSISTENCY. At today's prices this is a must or you will steadily lose customers like so many shuttered restaurants in the Metro area. When customers order items like Cauliflower, Falafel, etc. they need to be fully cooked and not raw inside. Items like Hummus, Salads, etc. need to be fresh - customers can tell when they aren't! Likewise, I shouldn't have to search and hunt down my server in order to get another drink, a water refill, or ask for the check! Don't get me wrong. When the food is good, it's very good but several times in the last 2-3 years it's been more of a mixed bag IME. Food consistency, service, etc. needs to be tightened up big time. Management needs to make sure staff are properly trained. That includes BOTH front and back of the house. read more
