We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, which was super delicious especially with the Garlic Naan! We had an order of this ground lamb dish that came on a sizzling plate, that was also fantastic. We also ordered this amazing rice dish that has meat in it. It was beautifully spiced and absolutely delicious (I am craving it right now)! The Mango Lassi went perfectly with the meal. After rave reviews from a few people, this is the first place I went to for dinner when I visited London. I went with family and collectively we ordered Tandoori chicken, lamb biryani, and a chicken vindaloo. Service is ok, I've noticed they are crass and snappy with fellow Asians and more patient with the white guests. Our table was rushed and that was incredibly irritating. Food wise, it was good. It's nothing memorable though. The tandoori chicken was well seasoned and juicy but generic almost. The Biryani was good. Vindaloo was good but overly spicy, and I have a high spice tolerance. Khans Indian restaurant in Westbourne Grove is quite an eccentric place. The restaurant is spread across one quite large room with a bar at the right hand side. The whole restaurant has a slightly kitsch Indian theme which means pretend palm tree pillars, and a faux rattan pagodas mixed with well done desert scape and traditional scene murals on the walls. The overall effect is like the dining room of a pretend Indian palace at a dated theme park. The food is a range of Indian standards. I went with a friend and we both had a thali and a lassi, which were both well done and very good value. Definitely not the same place that I remembered 9 years ago. The food doesn't taste very good. Ordered a Chicken Tikka Massala and a Chicken Korma. The sauces were on point, however the meat was dry and flavorless. The meat is not marinated, just grilled chicken dumped in sauce. The place is very busy which I am used to, but the service is very impersonal. You can tell that they just want you to sit, eat and get out so that the table can be free for people waiting. Very long wait for sub par food. My husband and I waited an absurdly long time for our orders while others around us received their food in a timely fashion. They are only getting 2 stars because the experience initially started off good with drinks and appetizers, but after that we never saw our server again...LITERALLY. Khan's was always known as a cheap place for students on a budget to get a curry. My university digs were just down the road in Notting Hill Gate and I made a few trips here over the years. One amusing episode was when our group was told that it would be a long time for a table until the waiter spotted an expensive property magazine in my hand, which I had just picked up on the way out. Funnily, we were seated pretty quickly I returned here recently for old times sake. I noted the prices had risen but still not too high. Don't compare the food here with other Indian restaurants. The entrees are around 5 - 7 GBP. Service can be unpredictable, sometimes impeccable and sometimes downright annoying. The nan is always served warm and is pretty good. Dishes that you can't go wrong ordering are the butter chicken, tandoori chicken, tandoori chops and the sheek kebabs. The Biryani here on a scale of 1 - 10, gets a 2.The dessert menu is not much to write about.the Gulab Jamun tastes like it is out of a can. Hmmm ... good food. I thought their butter chicken was waayyyy too oily and had wayyy too much cream in it. Their saag alu ( spinach with potatoes ) was also wayyy too oily. I also had their Methi chicken .... It was good. The weird things was, their butter chicken and their Methi Chicken seemed to have the very same base spice. It is not quite supposed to be like that. I heard a lot about this place, worked around the corner for 3 years and only went on my very last day in the job. Honestly, not all it was cracked up to be. The service was pretty crappy, generally barked at by the waiters and certainly gave off that Basil Fawlty feeling: that customers were getting in the way of them doing their job... I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala with Palau rice and naan. It was served in under five minutes and everything was served hot. Chicken could have used some more spicy heat but was otherwise very tasty. Khan's of Bayswater a bit like that Star Trek film it's named after - The Wrath Of Khan. It started out with good intentions, hoping to save the world with tasty food. Unfortunately somewhere along the way it became a genetically modified super evil villain that wanted nothing more than to destroy captain Kirk. The last few times I've been there it's been getting worse and worse, and last time was the last straw. I don't want to go there again. The food was rubbish and the bill was expensive. The service sucked and the cutlery was dirty. The service is hit-or-miss, especially if you get seated downstairs or in the backroom. It may help if you buy a t-shirt...but I've never seen anyone actually make a purchase. Ok, so I must confess I have been coming to Khans since before some Yelpers were born! I used to live across the road from the damn place which made avoiding it almost impossible (I didn't try). For those new to this place it is an institution. Just around the corner from Queensway it is packed almost all the time. It has a front section which is the nice end of the restaurant with restful palm trees and a nice faux sky painted on the ceiling (try and sit in here if you can). The interior section is darker. It tends to be where large groups (of which there are tons) tend to go. Try not to get sat near the serving hatch at the back where the dirty plates are shoved as the clattering of plates is a bit jarring. The other thing to note about Khans is that it isn't at all about relaxed dining. Given the numbers it is get in get food and get out (think Wong Kei in the 1980s but nowhere near as bad). No lingering over polite conversation and a mango Kulfi. Sure, they have desert and the staff don't rush you but it's important to note if you want lots of time best to go elsewhere. But don't (go elsewhere). Go to Khans. The food-oh the food. I have been eating Indian food for 30+ years and can find no restaurant that can cook food of this quality in such numbers and consistently year in year out. We don't tend to have starters given that we aren't interested in elongating the dining. If we do, then we'll have a chicken tikka which is moist and not overly reddened by food colouring. It looks natural and tastes it. We always have the same mains-chicken tikka masala (really creamy and tender pieces of chicken-mildy spiced and perfectly balanced); chicken jalfrazi (this is not for amateurs-it's basically a sauce which consists of minced green chillis-tart, acidic, deep, hot, spicy and hot (again). It's not for the faint-hearted but I have had no dish anywhere like it. Try it-you won't regret it (actually you might but only because of the heat). Final point -Khans is booze free. I'm not sure if this is because it is a Pakistani owned restaurant or because they had too many problems with drunks. I do recall almost getting into a fight with a drunk in there one night who insisted on talking very loudly about his recent dysentery-like symptoms, so maybe it was the latter. Anyway, they do Cobra alcohol free and the Redan Tavern on the corner of Westbourne Grove and Queensway is a fine first stop. Enjoy. read more

I think it's important to review a place within a context. So those comparing this place to other Indian/Pakistani establishments which serve main courses at 10-12quid per, are being unfair to both sorts of establishments. I compare this inexpensive foodjoint to other similarly cheap and cheerful spots and find it satisfies quite well for those days when you're feeling broke and feel like some greasy but delish curry. Their maincourses are priced at levels which can only be matched by take-away food, if at all. The decor and the size of the place screams of the stereotypical curry houses with cut-out ethnic decor and faux exotic images. I have to admit that this is not the sort of place I would pick to go to on a night out - I've become somewhat averse to greasy curry unless I'm drunk. But a Siberian friend was in town and wanted some Indian curry, London style, and thus we ended up here. Service was passable, didn't annoy but didn't delight either. The menu had a wide range of offerings and looking at how inexpensive the dishes were, I assumed the portion sizes would be small, and we ended up over-ordering some. Nothing terribly distinctive about the food - it was spicy, a bit greasy and served in ample proportions, regular Indian fare. It was tasty and made in conventional ways - don't expect cool fusion dishes or anything overly experimental here. Nothing was unbearably hot for my Siberian friend, who has low-ish spice tolerance; he was well pleased about partaking in a quintessentially Londonesque meal. I would recommend this place as an OK place to stop by if you're in the area and looking for a cheap option... I don't imagine going out of the way to eat here, but nothing about it makes me want to avoid it either. read more

I have lived in Bayswater all my life and I often read about Khans in magazines or heard people saying it was cheap. So I gave it a go..never again! The waiters were unfriendly, the space was cramped, the naan tasted stale, my soft drink tasted cheap and flat and the curry was one of the most disappointing ones I've ever tasted in a restaurant. Excellent place just hidden round the corner at the end of Bayswater Street. Its a massive restaurant inside, with a weird sky-blue ceiling and palm trees painted on the wall, but the main attraction here is the food, which is also extremely good value for money. If you're looking for a posh, high end Indian restaurant to entertain business clients, this is not for you. But if you're looking for a filling, delicious cheap meal, then this is perfect. Located along Westbourne Grove, Khans is a cheap, and reasonably tasting Indian restaurant. I always seems to pay just around £10 and come out feeling stuffed with a curry, vegetables, rice or naan and a drink filling me up. Alcohol is not allowed in this restaurant so enjoy some of their other unusual drinks (mocktail mixtures) or one of their tasty lassi mixtures. Sometimes you have to wait for a table but it's not unusual that you get seated immediately since they have a lot of people and things seem to flow very quickly. Some of the waiters help this along by sometimes being a little bit pushy but when you're paying such a small amount, it's understandable. read more

Visited for the first and last time on Saturday. This was an old Uni haunt of my girlfriend. I can see how the reasonable prices (for the location), decent portions (though smaller than my local takeaway), and informal atmosphere would appeal to students as well as anyone else wanting a low key meal out. The service was acceptable (though they forgot our tapwater). We greatly appreciated the fact they validated our parking. However, while we wanted to enjoy this, bottom line is, the food was frankly poor. Both our currys were so spicy they we couldn't really taste the food properly. Even my korma was hot, I couldn't taste the coconut at all. I must admit I don't like very spicy food so this immediately killed it for me but my girlfriend was raised on it and felt the same about hers. The rice was ok but the naan was very oily and not very soft - overall below the standard of my local takeaways. I will leave this place for the students and tourists in future. read more

The restaurant is massive, with an upstairs and downstairs seating area. There are lots of tables and there isn't anything noticable about the way the place is decorated. However, one thing stands out, and that is the exceptionally buzzing atmosphere. The place is full of a huge variety of people enjoying good food and good company.
