Monsoon was tasty but not the best I've had- maybe it's because it's a different type of indian with of Bangladesh? They didn't want to give me a high percentage off, offered 10% then 15% then I just told them I had a Yelp discount of 20% and that was kind of it. We ordered coconut curry, and then chicken tikka binyari. We also ordered potatoes which came out very salty. The workers were very nice but I thought everything was average. The mango lassi was nice too. Naan was decent too! I probably won't come back because I didn't care for it too much.

I must admit - we were starving and started our meal before I decided to take a pic...food was amazing!

I don't know a lot about Indian or Bangladeshi food, so I was pleased to have the opportunity with someone who does...my daughter. We found ourselves by Brick Lane in the Whitechapel area of London and it was pretty clear we were in the epicenter of this cuisine. But which restaurant? We were encouraged to try the Monsoon by a gentlemen out front who also offered a 15% discount...it looked nice and bright and friendly...and had 4 1/2 stars on another site...so what the heck. We went for it. I'm so glad we did! We had an amazing king prawn jalfrezi that was very spicy with chili, peppers and fresh ginger, Murghi Methi Masala that was made with minced chicken and was medium spicy with a lovely flavor, excellent Chicken Biryani, saag paneer so sweet especially when you took a bite after the methi, and garlic naan that was so light and fresh..possibly the best I'd ever tried. What really made the meal perfect was the friendly and attentive service. It would be hard to find a nicer staff. Definitely try The Monsoon if you are in the Whitechapel area...or London in general and "jonesing" for awesome Indian food!

Brick Lane is historically known as "Bengal Village" packed with middle eastern shops and eats. On our venture down to East London, we most definitely had to try the cuisine known for its curry. Walking down the strip, there is so much competition between the restaurants that everyone is fighting to get your business. It's what we call in the States, "hustled". My advice is simply this: don't get "hustled". A worker was standing outside of his restaurant and insisted, no... he refused to let us walk away and basically commanded us to dine in at his restaurant. He tried to sell us his deal but we were not impressed nor convinced because there were no other patrons inside the restaurant. That is a huge sign indicating that the food most likely isn't that great. As we walk down further, we are drawn in by the Monsoon menu because the man offered us the deal: two bottles of wine, choice of appetizer per each person, entree, and nan for just £10. Good deal so we went in. I ordered the Chicken Jafflong which was a spicy dish, flavorful but not blown away. Although, I did enjoy the Garlic Nan with my dish. For my appetizer, I had the Chicken Tikka Pakora which was battered in flour, didn't enjoy it much. We dined in for a good and fair deal but I wouldn't prefer to come back again.

We already tried Indian restaurants in the area, so we weren't that excited about another Indian restaurant, but we really enjoyed our meal! The set plate combinations at the end of the menu are a great deal, and delicious. We tried the vegetarian plate and meat plate. Both very good. And the Cabernet Sauvignon from India was unique, but went well with the meal, I was glad I ordered it. A good choice out if many on brick lane- and they could instantly handle a group of 25 people the night we arrived, quite impressive.

Totally forgot to write a review for this place. Was there on August 28th and we were strolling around Brick Lane trying to find food at like 11pm because our flight had gotten in late. At any rate, this place came through and they were very pleasant and welcoming. My favorite was the Saag Paneer (Spinach with fresh Indian cheese) it was delicious and well priced! Next time I'm in London, I wouldn't mind going back.

For dinner I ordered the Chicken Ruby, basmati rice, garlic naan, and crispy okra fries. Now I get the hype. The Chicken Ruby was rich, spicy, and packed with flavor, the naan was perfect for soaking up every bit of sauce, and the okra fries were so crunchy I couldn't stop eating them. This place absolutely lived up to its reputation. They also serve breakfast, and there's so much on the menu that I already plan to come back a few more times before I leave London.

So we did some research. Somewhere along the line we found Meraz written up as one of the 12 best Indian restaurants in England. Okay, so we trek over to the East End (pretty wild neighborhood that we enjoyed) for dinner at Meraz. My husband was disappointed not to find a particular dish on the menu, but the waiter didn't hesitate to offer to have the kitchen whip it up special for him. My husband also went a little wild ordering all sorts of appetizers and side dishes. Now I don't like to deal in hyperbole. A five star rating should be sufficient praise. But I'm going to go overboard just this once: BEST INDIAN FOOD I'VE EVER EATEN IN A RESTAURANT. EVER. I've eaten in Indian restaurants at home in Chicago, in L.A., New York, St.Louis, Atlanta, San Francisco, etc., etc. etc. Many have been good, but none approached this. We ate every scrap of all the food we ordered, and only because we had a tight timeline and a busy itinerary for our brief visit to London did we not go back for at least a second meal.

As soon as you walk in, they offer to hang your coat. The young lady who was our server for the evening gave us the best recommendations--I wish I knew her name. She was so patient with our many questions and didn't steer us wrong. My friends and I started with the wings as an appetizer. They had the perfect amount of grill flavor and were very saucy and well seasoned. There was no classy way to eat them--they were that good. For our entrées, we ordered the goat shoulder and the half rack of lamb chops. The half rack is more than enough for one person, especially with naan and rice. The reviewers were not lying when they said you must try the lamb chops. They came out sizzling, and we laughed because it took us back to dining at Chili's (iykyk). Perfectly seasoned and incredibly tender. The same goes for the goat shoulder. This was my first time trying it, and I was very impressed with how good it tasted. While I'm not usually a dessert person, you must try the carrot pastry. Think of it like a McDonald's apple pie (the old-school one), but with warm carrot filling on the inside and a sprinkle of pistachio on the outside--just 10x better. Everything here tasted spectacular, including the chili naan. Can't wait to come back and try more dishes.

Location: The restaurant is a little out of the main road and it is just down after the Hakkasan which is next door so easy to find once you get on the right road. Decor & Lighting: Modern design with low light levels and separate bar area as well as a separate private dining room so great for events and private parties. Open Kitchen so you can see all the work. If you want to take photos in the evening you will need to take a light and/or flash. With large glass windows however i think light levels will be fine during the day. Ambience & Acoustics: No need to shout here and music is background and not overpowering. I am sure they can turn up the volume as desired should you want more of a party given i have seen they do live music events in the bar area. But during a normal dinner the level of background music was perfect so you can actually talk without needing to shout. Drinks: Many options here but as i do not drink i focus on the mocktails and they had a good selection and again the staff were able to adjust and amend any based on your taste. You also can get masala chai by the way for all the fans out there. We had the following: Passion Infusion - Asked for one to be more citrus and loved it. Very fresh and sweet but i really enjoyed it. Darbaar Smoothie - A nice red berry drink, thick but full of flavour, i got a hint of cinnamon but i like cinnamon so no complaints there. Food: There is a good selection of food but not too much that you cannot make you mind up. It does seem at first that there is a limited vegetarian selection but this is not the case as they are able to accommodate and make dishes off the menu. One of the party was vegetarian and did not go hungry. Portion size is perfect as any more and we would have wasted it. Worth sharing dishes so you can taste a wider selection. Food all arrived promptly and hot. We had the following: Papad and Chutneys - Great selection and mini papad making it a lot easier to share. Came with three chutneys, all were great and different to the usual. Corn Fritters - Veg option and small portion size but it was nice but not spicy Grill platter (to share) - We asked for the salmon to be substituted which was no issue and you get a selection of Panner, Lamb Sheekh, Murgh Malai Kebab as well as Tandoori Salmon which we had subbed out. The selection and food was fresh and clean. All tasty but mild with the exception of the Lamb Sheekh which had a little kick to it. Chutney served with the dish was just right. Nothing was left.... Nizami / Baby Aubergine - Again everyone liked the dish and something i have not tasted before, came in a sauce which i tried as i don't really like Aubergine (just the consistency i think) but i did enjoy the dish and great vegetarian option for a main course which is not on the menu. I noticed another review said it was caked in oil but i did not find this was the case when we visited. Cumin Roasted Potatoes - Cooked perfectly and a nice side dish. Kasturi Butter Chicken - Cooked well and tasted nice but i am not sure how you can really make a butter chicken taste much different as you get a similar taste in many good Indian restaurants but not too sweet and classic taste so you know what to expect. Rice / Garlic Nan and Roti all served cut and initially looks like a small portion but really fresh and not thick but plenty for us. Garlic nan was really nice and not overpowering. The rice was also really perfectly cooked and very aromatic. Could have eaten the rice just by itself. Desert - Not a large selection but plenty to choose from and they do specials of the day. I was lucky as the special was one of my favourites a Dark Chocolate Fondant with Cinnamon ice cream. Really lovely chocolate sauce inside and it was really good, even though i was full i could not resist and had to eat all of it. Single portion size but enough for a dessert. Highly recommend this dessert if you are a fan of chocolate. Staff / Service: Everyone was super friendly and attentive. There was only some confusion over a second drinks order but this was rectified with no fuss and it is important to know that any issues are dealt with. Head Waiter was always attentive and kept passing by and was always able to help and advice on dishes and happy to make amendments to a dish and even suggested and made off the menu items. We were also introduced to Abdul Yaseen who is the owner and chef. Which was a nice touch. Bill / Cost: We had three in our party and we shared dishes with only mocktails and no alcoholic drinks and the bill came to £50 per head (£150 total for three of us) which i think is reasonable for fine dining. But i would add another £20-40 for those drinking depending on how much is consumed. Conclusion: I would highly recommend a visit and its nice to be in a different area
