This is a pretty cute low keep spot for dessert in ktown. I love the mellow ambiance here. I've come here with my gf on multiple occasions and have always like the desserts. They have both desserts and coffee drinks. The drinks are pretty standard and is a nice pick me up in the afternoon or evening if you have a long night ahead. There is a solid array of desserts, of which they have tokyo and Seoul style. One of the styles has red bean so I would ask if you are picky. I've only tried the pumpkin and the Oreo desserts. Came here on a Tuesday night, and this place was packed! It was easy to find seating for 2 though. There is valet parking shared with other stores in this plaza. I couldn't find it so I parked in California Marketplace and walked over. I ordered the cookies and cream cheesecake and it took about 20minutes for it to come out. It was good but not like amaaaaaazing considering the price and the wait. Patbingsu (Korean shaved ice with red bean) was somewhat decent, but not truly amazing. Parking: Anko shares the same parking lot as Boba Bear and Feng Mao. Valet parking is $2, but there was only one valet guy and he was basically scrambling all over the place ... The valet guy was so unorganized that he ended up asking us what car (and color) did we drive *facepalm*. Stamp card is available, but you will have to buy 10 patbingsu bowls AND 2 drinks in order to receive one free patbingsu. In addition, cashier lacked attention to detail because he forgot to give me a stamp card. In the end, I did get my stamp card after I asked cashier about it. You will also need to pay extra if you want additional red bean with condensed milk (free red bean refills at Okrumong). Black Sesame Anko (red bean, black sesame, almond, injeolmi cake - also came with a side of red bean w/ condensed milk, $5.75 for small): The ice texture RESEMBLED Okrumong's - smooth and melt-in-your-mouth texture, but there was still some small chunks of ice with pretty rough and raw ice texture. Overall, the bowl was too sweet due to excess condense milk ... and I did not like injeolmi (Korean rice cake) ... tasted flavorless. *I sampled my friend's order (Milk Anko) and it was way better than Black Sesame Anko* If you are looking for a cheaper Korean shaved ice, more flavors and topping options, and something to satisfy your craving for sugar, then Anko will do the job. However, I would rather pay a bit more for one of the best black sesame / OG patbingsu at Okrumong (well ... just don't get green tea patbingsu at Okrumong). P.S. - Wi-Fi password is on the receipt. The Oreo cheesecake flavor was amazing! It's not too sweet or overpowering. The cheesecake bits were spread out evenly. Each bite was super creamy. Unlike the frozen cheesecakes, they tasted really fresh and it just melts in your mouth. The Oreo bits were crunchy and not stale at all. The sweetness from the condensed milk actually worked well with the creamy texture. My only complaint is there was a lot of ice ratio compared to the actual Oreo and cheesecake bits. So after halfway, you're left with nothing but just plain shaved ice. Service was good and the atmosphere is clean + hipster! When it's hot you need something to cool you down. Water helps, popsicles are good. Ice cream is just ok. Anything frozen helps. What's the best?! My son and I recently discovered Kakigori or Tokyo style shaved ice. Sounds simple right? Well, yes AND no. Like many Japanese foods (sushi for example) sometimes less really is more. Using what's in season now and letting those ingredients shine without too much fuss or unnecessary ingredients is the essence of Kakigori. We tried a few different flavors but in the summer, strawberry is our absolute favorite. Crystal clear ice is shaved on a special machine with blades that produce mounds of feathery ice. The texture and mouthfeel of this kind of ice is very soft. Not like the crunchy & somewhat granular ice you'd find in a sno-cone. No offense sno-cone aficionados!.. This ice is fragile and needs care. So it's gently shaped by hand into a lightly packed mound. Pristine perfectly ripe strawberries are added inside this pillowy ice. Then, more fluffy ice gently on top. Some more of those same strawberries are blended up to make a sauce for the topping and then more... you guessed it, freshly sliced strawberries are arranged artfully on top. Served with a bit of condensed milk this dessert is the ultimate summertime cool down treat. They have several flavors. Some familiar like fresh mango and some unfamiliar (at least to me) like black sesame. They have two styles; Japanese "Tokyo Style"(Kakigori) and "Seoul Style"(Bingsoo) It takes a few minutes to craft this righteous dessert but take a look at the photo. Its art. Obsessed! I stumbled upon this while eating at another place nearby, and let me tell you, their bingsoo is soo good. I didn't realize how good it was until I went to another bingsoo place that's considered popular (Sul & Beans), and man, it was not as good as Anko. The bingsoo here just hit!! The only downside is that parking around the area is difficult to find and the wait time was really long. They did give a disclaimer before ordering, but it took about 45 minutes for two orders of bingsoo to come out which felt unusually long but maybe their machines weren't functioning properly that day? Get the taiyaki here!! My heart was already sold when I tried a bite of the taiyaki with custard filling here. The taiyaki has a little crisp on the outside but the inside of the fish has a texture like mochi. The custard filling is delicious and prepared hot. The hot custard oozed out when i took a bite and burned my hand, but it was definitely worth the burn. I already know I'll be coming back to order the taiyaki here again. I also tried the mango bingsoo, which is also pretty good. The shaved snow is a great soft texture, and i like that there are two layers of mango topping on there. I will dare and say that this is my favorite bingsoo location in Ktown (dare because I am POSITIVE I have not visited ALL bingsoo places in Ktown!). Since my first time coming in the summer, I have been back and have tried almost all of the flavors on their menu - except for a few that I would rather not try. If you like more fruity bingsoo places, I definitely recommend trying their mango and strawberry flavored bingsoos. They are literally the best and kind of healthy. They also have plenty of real fruit nicely layered (top, middle, and bottom) and they each come with a delicious side of condensed milk. Yes, please! Each one is about $10 and can feed about 3 people (or 1 if you're me :) This cafe is super cute and the perfect place to come get dessert late at night, on a date, or just post KBBQ munchies. I have been searching for a place on the West Coast that makes shaved ice that is as fine as kakigori. Hawaiian "shave ice" is nowhere near as fine, typically. Additionally, kakigori uses a thawing technique to prevent brain freeze. Well I finally found something as magnificent as the kakigori I'd once had! I got the black sesame bingsu, which came topped with red bean, savory mochi, and a small sprinkling of toasted walnuts. The ice was so gloriously fine that it had the smoothness of ice cream without the thick creaminess or heaviness that comes with dairy. The bingsu just melted in my mouth. The black sesame was perfectly incorporated, and never did I feel like I was lacking in any of the accompaniments to the ice. As I dug further into the dessert, I was greeted with a surprise inside: more red bean inside the mountain! Also, there were slivers of almond. It was so delicious that we finished the entire thing and were sad that we were too full to order another flavor. Hopefully we'll go back tomorrow. We also tried the taiyaki in two flavors: red bean and nutella+banana. I don't usually like nutella, but the flavor combination was surprisingly well done. The banana didn't overwhelm, and the nutella wasn't too strong either. The taiyaki was very crispy on the outside, and then wonderfully fluffy on the inside. It was also hot and fresh! I've been coming to this cute little spot for 5 years now, and it never disappoints! In a cute dome shape, it may look like it's not that much food, but there's actually fillings hiding under the shaved snow. I appreciate that they leave the extra condense milk(or other sweetened syrup depending on the order) on the side. The menu has changed slightly overtime, and popular items tend to sold out faster on some days. Parking hasn't been difficult for me. Big windows, super bright, and the decor was so cute! My friends and I came into this cute little place on Saturday night 8PM - we were full from Sul Lung Tang just a block away and we wanted a dessert we could share. We were hoping to get a matcha shaved ice (seen in the pictures on Yelp) but I guess they don't make it anymore? We were choosing between Mango and Grain, and after we finally decided on mango - turns out they ran out for the night. So, we finally got our grain shaved ice which was pretty good! The shaved ice is layered with red beans and the misugaru powder (the taste is hard to explain until you try it!), and it's served with some condensed milk and red beans on the side as well. One thing that was a little disappointing was that there was only a little bit of mochi on top versus other places. We shared one shaved ice between five of us, but the serving isn't that big - I can see it being shared with two or three people.
