I went to Damo around 2pm on a weekend, and the line was already starting to form out the door. Unfortunately, the line takes up a majority of the cafe space, along with the few sitting tables, so it was pretty difficult to find a spot to wait for my drink after ordering. The pickup area can also get blocked by the line or waiting area, which can make it a little awkward when you're trying to reach over someone to grab your drink. I ordered the Coconut Hojicha and the Matcha Einspanner. The Coconut Hojicha was refreshing, nutty, and definitely the standout of the two. It's such a fun twist on the typical matcha coconut drink, and I have to give Damo their flowers for creating something that feels unique. The Matcha Einspanner wasn't particularly stand-out compared to some of the other cafes in K-Town, but it was still a well-balanced drink with a nice mix of bitterness, sweetness, and creaminess. I can definitely see why so many people consider Damo one of their favorite cafes. Despite the crowded setup, the drinks are creative and thoughtfully done! read more

Solid matcha place in ktown!! There's so many places around and it's a saturated market so I get the competition... but this place holds its own! Matcha is rich and bold, there's a good amount so it's not weak. Milk ratio is good so it's not diluted at all. The cream top is nice and thick and doesn't melt into the drink! Matcha Cream Top ($7.75)-- I looooove me a nice and thick cream top and this place does it amazingly. It's thick and perfectly sweetened and doesn't melt with the drink/ice. It stays perfectly thick and still and above the matcha unless you mix it in. The matcha is also really nice and rich. None of the bland or grassy taste. Just genuine good matcha! Chocolate Forest ($7.75)-- Basically same as above but the cream on top tastes like Milo/Ovaltine mixed in. It's a nice and sweet nostalgic taste. Not a hint of bitterness so if you want mocha/dark chocolate this is not the one for you. It's more happy kid hot chocolate vibes. Overall I really like this place for their matcha and would get it again. Pricing is steep but all good matcha goes for around $8 nowadays. This was our last stop of our mini cafe tour when leaving LA and headed back home. We came shortly after opening, so there was plenty of parking and it wasn't crazy crowded yet. Upon entering the place is clean, sleek, and modern. We were greeted right away. I already knew I was leaving with 2 drinks for the drive back home. I ordered: 1. Cold brew vanilla: Delicious, I love that tou can see the vanilla cream on top. This was definitely what I needed to wake me up. 2. Matcha einspener: I tasted this and immediately loved it when leaving the store. I saved it for last. It was so light and refreshing. I could easily drink it all day if they had a bigger size lol. DAMO has been on my list for a year since I last visited LA, and let me just say it was worth the wait! When my friend and I stopped by, I realized DAMO is located in a plaza I used to frequent for I Love Boba and what used to be Potions & Poisons when I lived in LA back in the early 2020s. After reviewing the menu, my friend ordered the hojicha einspänner since we'd already had one matcha earlier in the day. I ordered the strawberry matcha latte with oat milk, which is typically a safe choice. The cashier seemed to have misheard my name and order because when our drinks were ready, the receipt slip displayed my name incorrectly as "Jane", and my drink was prepared einspänner style even though I requested just a regular strawberry matcha latte. Fortunately, the barista was super nice and understanding and offered to remake my drink on the spot. Since all the tables and counter chairs were taken, we sat on the bench near the front of the café to sip our drinks, which were very good and definitely above average. It is indeed a small spot, so if you're looking for a quiet spot to work, this might not be it. The interior decor, though, is quite clean aesthetically and is relaxing to work in. The Matcha Latte, though, let me say if you're in need of an afternoon pick-me-up, this will keep you energized, even without the sugar! Damo is one of my favorite cafes in LA, and definitely has a special place in my heart because it's where I discovered hojicha! Their hojicha is so nutty, creamy, and balanced. It's not too sweet but just enough that it brings out the hojicha's flavor. I've also tried their matcha, which I think is equally as delicious. You can tell Damo uses good quality hojicha and matcha, which is why I keep coming back. The cafe is also super aesthetic and if it weren't so busy, I imagine it would be a decent place to study. It's is located in a small plaza so parking can be difficult during more busy hours, but I've never struggled too much and normally find parking within 10 minutes. Highly recommend for anyone visiting LA or anyone who hasn't tried hojicha yet. Theirs is life-changing! read more

I visited Damo in Koreatown this afternoon and tried the Strawberry Einspänner. It was a bit on the sweet side, but overall delicious. However, I was quite disappointed by the lack of decaf options. I am very sensitive to caffeine, so while I enjoy regular coffee in the morning, I always have to stick to decaf in the afternoon. When I asked which menu items could be made decaf, I was told that none of their coffee or matcha drinks have a decaf option. The only decaf-friendly choices available were the Strawberry Einspänner and the Strawberry Tonic. Because of this, I'll only be able to visit this spot in the morning if I want coffee. The first time I noticed Damo, there was line of people wrapped around the corner waiting to get in. I walked up to find out what was the commotion, only to find out that everyone was waiting in line to get matcha! I didn't wait in line and left but vowing to come back next time. Fast forward to my first visit. I got there fairly early in the morning because I was making a trek to the nearby Zion Market. No line and the store was practically empty. The store is very clean with a minimalist design. After placing my order for the matcha latte, I stood there excitedly waiting while my matcha was being whisked away by the friendly barista. After taking my first sip I was like DAMN! Now I know why all those folks were waiting in line. The earthy flavor of the matcha seamlessly melded with the creaminess of the milk. The hint of sweetness gently peeks through as the smoothness hits your tongue. Their matcha is top grade... it tastes like fresh greens and cream. If I had to nitpick, I'd probably wish the cup was bigger. You have to try it to understand. They have another location near DTLA.
