If you love matcha, Café Upper needs to be on your list! I tried their Double Cha Einspanner with hojicha cream and hojicha latte with matcha cream. The drinks are creamy, rich, and seriously addictive. The B.O.S. Latte has brown sugar, oat milk, and shaken espresso for that smooth sweet kick. And the Banana Matcha Latte? Creamy banana milk meets ceremonial-grade matcha. The Ube Shaved Ice is creamy and refreshing, the Matcha cheesecake brings that rich tea flavor, and the Ube Cheesecake is sweet, creamy, and totally addictive! One dessert? Definitely not enough! Honestly, I'd order 4 drinks!

Tons of seating great for work from cafe day. Free parking in rear. Currently have 20% all drinks between 10:30am-2pm. Pistachio Einspanner -coffee was good and pistachio shined through. Bits of crushed pistachio throughout. A bit sweeter than I would prefer and wished coffee was a bit stronger. Black Sesame Einspanner -not too sweet, black sesame added the right amount of nuttiness to the coffee. If you're a slow drinker like me, drink gets quick thick as it sits. Matcha Einspanner -it was alright, have had better. Probably would stick to ordering their coffee if I came back with someone else.

Cafe Upper's interior was really unique! It has an edgy, industrial vibe that you don't see at most cafes. The matcha was definitely the highlight. I ordered a matcha Einspanner less sweet. It came out super creamy and really well balanced. Also, I have never seen a matcha look like that! The cafe is pretty spacious with a decent amount of seating, which I appreciated. A huge plus is that they have a parking lot. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely come back!

Dirty Matcha Latte (4/5) So thankful they had this option because I couldn't commit to either side of my personality: earthy or caffeinated. The espresso came in with a noticeable presence, slightly more assertive than expected, but it didn't bulldoze the matcha. Instead, it created a layered profile: grassy, lightly sweet, with a roasted backbone that lingered at the end. Not the most delicate dirty matcha I've had, but still enjoyable to drink.   What elevates the experience is the space itself. The interior feels intentional! Clean lines, open layout, neutral tones. There's room to breathe. You could comfortably camp out with a laptop to study, work, or catch up with friends. It's naturally aesthetic. And here's the unsung hero: parking in the back. In Los Angeles, that alone deserves recognition. Just pull in and proceed to caffeinate.   I didn't dive into the desserts this visit, but the croffles and bingsu were visually persuasive. If they taste half as good as they look, I'll be adjusting my rating accordingly on my next stop.   Overall: strong beverage program, thoughtfully designed environment, and logistical convenience -- a trifecta that's surprisingly hard to find. I'll be back for round two.

I absolutely love the vibes of this cafe. I love that it stays open later than other spots, so it's a perfect way to end a night out. I usually order the mango ice dessert, don't know the exact name, but it's always topped with only sweet mangos. Not the biggest fan of the strawberry milk, but i'd still come back for their other desserts. Also a great place to get work done in. I always see students studying as it isn't too loud. Servers are also nice, nothing too crazy.

Cute cafe! We stopped by just to grab a quick cold brew but they had a lot of really yummy looking pastries! Plenty of seating inside so it would be a good place to hang out for a bit. Cold brew was solid, and served quickly. Also appreciated the parking lot! Definitely a solid option to grab a coffee in the Ktown area!

I was in town for a quick over nighter and I wanted some matcha. I looked to Yelp and found this cafe. I decided to stop in and enjoy my matcha inside since I had time to burn. Inside the cafe is super cute. Lots of seating and has free parking in their connected lot. The service was quick and the baristas were really sweet. I ordered the blueberry matcha with oat milk and it was so good. I'd definitely recommend if you're looking for a cute shop to support and visit. They also had some small bites and shaved ice treats. Good music and a very clean restroom inside.

cool cafe in ktown! definitely reminded me of cafes in Seoul, i always look for a black sesame drink and the black sesame einspanner was pretty good!

Taro Einspanner $8.50 (8/2025) NOT WORTH IT!
    Kat T.

Nice place with parking. BUT not ky cup of coffee. I tried the UBE/Taro Einspanner ($8.50) and I was NOT impressed with it. Barely tasted the taro and espresso. What I tasted was Milk flavored coffee. Which is not worth paying $8.50 for milk. I could have gotten a pint of milk at the market. I will say it's a good try but doubt I will be going back. This place is cute for social media drinks, dessert taking but for me who just wants a good Einspanner and with that price I'm going to have to say HARD PASS. Parking on the street or back lot.

Great coffee spot! If you come before 2 PM, all drinks are 20% off, which is such a nice deal. I've been here many times, mostly to study -- it's quiet and calm in the mornings, though it does get a bit louder later in the day (headphones help!). It's also a great place to catch up with friends. The service is always nice and helpful. I got the Orange Espresso Tonic, I personally love it, but my friend didn't since they're not into orange and espresso together. Their Butterscotch Latte is one of my favorites, and the Matcha Latte is really grassy (which I enjoy but if you don't like the grassy flavor than this isn't for you). Forgot to take pictures of those, but everything I got looked and tasted great. Plus, there's free parking, which is always a bonus!

    Katy C.

What I Ordered: Taro Einspanner Rose Lemon Tonic * pricey for drinks that did not particularly stand out in taste or quality * more ideal for late-night hangouts than to study at (open late!) * clean and spacious interior * easy access and free parking 6.5/10

Matcha is rich and bold, there's a good amount so it's not weak. Milk ratio is good so it's not diluted at all. The cream top is nice and thick and doesn't melt into the drink! Matcha Cream Top ($7.75)-- I looooove me a nice and thick cream top and this place does it amazingly. It's thick and perfectly sweetened and doesn't melt with the drink/ice. It stays perfectly thick and still and above the matcha unless you mix it in. The matcha is also really nice and rich. None of the bland or grassy taste. Just genuine good matcha! Chocolate Forest ($7.75)-- Basically same as above but the cream on top tastes like Milo/Ovaltine mixed in. It's a nice and sweet nostalgic taste. Not a hint of bitterness so if you want mocha/dark chocolate this is not the one for you. It's more happy kid hot chocolate vibes. Overall I really like this place for their matcha and would get it again. Pricing is steep but all good matcha goes for around $8 nowadays. Theres a shared parking lot (free if you go in the afternoon) but otherwise street parking.

Parking is pretty difficult, and valet is $5. I can easily see the parking lot getting gridlocked on a busy day. I sampled a few of their gelato flavors, including the jasmine lychee and soy sauce. Both were okay, but I just wasn't in the mood for either of them today. I ended up getting the Pandan Toast to try. The pandan flavor was really good--not too grassy and didn't taste too artificial. The ice cream also had a buttery taste to it. It might have been from the toast, but I'm not too sure. The bread itself wasn't oily, which was nice, but it was kind of dry. The pandan sauce definitely helped make it easier to eat. I probably wouldn't eat the bread by itself though because it was super hard and didn't really have much flavor. I wasn't sure what to expect from the toast, but it wasn't quite what I expected. I originally wanted to try the mango sticky rice flavored shaved ice because it looked really good in the photos, but unfortunately they didn't have it today. I'd come back to try their shaved ice when mango is in season again!

So we decided to come here for coffee or tea and ended up having a really nice time. I used to come here quite often about four years ago. Back then, I really liked their Einspänner and ordered it several times. But the last time I came, I thought it was way too sweet, so I hadn't been back since. It had actually been a REALLY long time since I last visited. And when I used to come here four years ago, I always came in the morning or around lunchtime. Last night was my first time ever coming here at night. My friend told us that they are open until midnight, so that's why we decided to come here after dinner. I had heard that parking here can be a nightmare because there aren't enough parking spaces and people have a hard time finding a spot. But once again, my parking luck was AMAZING! A car pulled out right in front of me just as I arrived, so I was able to park very easily. Another friend arrived later than I did, and she said she couldn't find a parking spot at all. She drove around for quite a while looking for one before finally finding street parking. Last night, we also had some tiramisu, and since I'm pretty sensitive to caffeine, I decided to have a caffeine-free ade instead of coffee or tea. It was a little sweet for my taste, but it was ok. We sat outside on the outdoor patio and talked and talked and talked. We had such a fun time together! However, it was actually pretty cold outside last night. I remember thinking that it felt surprisingly chilly. But what was even crazier was how FREEZING cold it was inside the café! They had the air conditioning turned up so high that both my friends and I felt like we were going to freeze to death. The restroom is inside, and I also went inside to get some water, so I mentioned to one of the male employees that it was freezing inside. He told me that they didn't feel cold at all because they were working, and that THEY were actually feeling really hot. I went back to our table and told my friends what he had said, and they were like, "WHAT?! We're freezing to death over here!" The parking lot here is actually pretty large, so I was wondering why it was so difficult to find a parking spot. Apparently, at night, the left side is the café, while on the right side there is a bar where people can drink and also play games. There was a huge line of people waiting outside the bar last night, so I'm guessing that's probably why the parking lot gets so crowded and it's hard to find a spot. It was also pretty chilly outside last night because of the low temperature, so one thing I wished they had on the outdoor patio was heaters. That would have made sitting outside much more comfortable on a cold night.

The barista was super helpful with explaining what each drink was, didn't steer us in any direction though. The Houjicha shaved ice was the standout. Houjicha is a toasted green tea, and the flavor is a little difficult to describe--it has a warm, grainy, almost wheat-like taste that's very different from traditional green tea. At first, it can seem like an unusual flavor, but don't give up on it. Once you add the syrup they serve on the side and keep eating, it really grows on you. It somehow gets better with every bite, and before you know it, you can't stop eating it. The Iced Brown Sugar Miso Latte wasn't exactly what I was in the mood for, but it was still well made. It had a nice balance of umami and sweetness without either flavor overpowering the other. While it wasn't my personal favorite, I'd still recommend it if you're looking to try something a little different. Overall, Anko is a great spot if you're looking for unique Japanese-inspired desserts and drinks in a calm, beautifully designed space.
