I found this place when I lived in Somerville and glad I did! Ann Marie cut my hair once (maybe 2x), but she always remembers me and is just an overall sweet and kind person. Natalie usually cuts my hair and has always done a great job. Onetime one side was a little longer than the other so I came back a few days later asked her to touch it up. Not only did she not charge me for it, she refused to take any money. Be warned though- if you're not in the area, CALL AHEAD. Sometimes they aren't open during their normal business hours. Got tired of the sub-par haircut at Salon Femia for $30, so decided to branch out and see what else was around. I had my hair cut by Natalie today. I walked in and only waited for 2 minutes. I can imagine it being a much longer wait if there are a few people in line. I was a little nervous that Natalie approximated a size 2 guard with her razor and a comb, but somehow she did an incredible job! She was fast, efficient, and most importantly I loved the cut. Conversation, which I typically dread while getting my hair cut, was refreshingly natural. Natalie is a sweetheart. I was almost afraid to leave a review, thinking that the longer this place stays unnoticed, the less I'll have to wait to get my haircut. But, it was too good to keep secret. Pretty good. You can only pay in cash. $10 for the haircut, maybe $2 for tip. The quality of the haircut is also decent. There are several drawbacks, however. There are only two chairs in which you can get a haircut, the wait can tend to get a little bit long, depending on the day. Be sure to get there on a day with low traffic, or in the morning. Also, the people who work here don't have very good work ethic, in that they sometimes just don't show up to work, leaving a lot of people waiting outside of the shop expecting them to show up. Furthermore, while this place is advertised to open at 11 and close at 5, the reality is that the people here usually don't show up to work until 11:30 earliest (in my experience), and usually close up shop before 5. I made an account just to rate this place. Ann and Natalie run the best local barbershop in the city. 10$ for a men's cut, with free touch-ups if you don't like it after a few days. They're keystones of the Davis Square community, and have surprisingly accurate memories, even if you only get a cut every few months. I'm not much of a talker when I get my hair cut, and even though Ann can probably talk for a week straight, she made me feel comfortable and didn't try and make me talk if I didn't want to. I went - I got a haircut-I came out happier than the last 5 times my hair had been worked on by a barber. Total cost $15 with the tip. If you are after a simple, clean, quick and perfect cut -Walk right in. This is a barber shop run by 2 sisters and they make you feel very welcome. Ann is fabulous as she keeps you entertained with her chatter while she gives you a cleanup. This is not a salon so probably not for those needing to dress up for a wedding or a special occasion. I moved into the Somerville area almost a year ago and needed a haircut badly. Not knowing of any good places to go, I decided to risk it and walk into Ann Marie's. I was very pleasantly surprised. These two sisters have been cutting hair for over two decades and they produce excellent results. Even more amazing is the extremely low $10 charge. Since that first day, I've loyally returned every single month or so. However, today I walked in for a haircut and had an important meeting in an hour. I figured that would be plenty of time for a haircut, since there was no one in line. After waiting patiently for 15 minutes for the older sister to leisurely settle herself, I politely informed her that I was short for time and asked if she thought she could give me a quick, simple haircut and have me out the door in about 25 min (she usually cuts my hair in much less time). Her answer was a curt, "probably not." Then she added, "I'm not gonna rush," in a very dismissive and disrespectful manner -- the way an irritated adult will often speak to a child. I was completely embarrassed in front of her sister and the customer she was attending to. So I walked out and left to my meeting without getting my hair cut. After the meeting, I found another place that charges almost twice as much as Ann Marie's. However, I will be cutting my hair at this new location from now on. I would rather spend my money at a costlier, further business than be treated poorly at a cheaper, closer one. I got my hair cut my natalie today - and she was so lovely! My hair is medium length and she only took about 20 minutes to dry cut my hair. She was pleasant, talkative, and overall a sweet heart who did a great job on my hair. I will definitely come back for my next hair cut. It was only $17 including tip! The only downside is that they don't take appointments, and about 3 men got their hair cut before it was my turn. But Natalie is speedy with men's cuts so I only waited about half an hour. The men waiting to go after me obviously had to wait a little longer since I was getting a women's cut so I'm sure they weren't happy with me (but I don't really care that much). You can't beat the price! One star off because you can't book an appointment, but everything else about this place is 5/5 stars! read more

I just came from there about a half hour ago. Was looking for a decent haircut for a decent price and came upon this listing. Went right over and got myself a good haircut for $10.00. ($15.00 with tip included) There was several people there already waiting but I still only had to wait about a half hour. Still very much worth it though. I went here several times because it costs $10 cash for mens haircut, its fast, and its an old fashioned barber shop. The younger sister cut my hair the first times. It was satisfactory for the price, but still a poor quality haircut. I had the older sister cut my hair the last time. I only wanted the sides cut and asked her to leave the top alone. She proceeded to cut some of the top, so I then asked her to cut the top politely. I was dissatisfied with the unevenness in length on top. I told her this and she was very defensive and began talking loudly and rudely. "I did what you told me to do!". It was as if her goal was to embarrass me in front of the rest of the shop. She proceeded to cut sloppily with an attitude, an electric razor in one hand and a comb in the other. I just said ok I am fine with it. She told me that I could come back, with a condescending attitude, suggesting I was too picky. When I got home I noticed a clear electric razor line above one of my ears, but not the other. Then I went to another barber (Dentes) and he told me that it was worse on the back where she had cut some areas really short and left other alone. The worst part about the whole thing was that I realized I did not like what she did during the haircut, told her, and then I received what seemed like deliberate sabotage. In addition, it was a stressful experience. If you go, don't criticize after the damage is done and don't expect to get exactly what you want. read more
