I love this place! I started going here as a "quick desperate cut" and quickly decided there was no sense paying 2-5x as much (like I had been at salons). Theres no head & neck massage in fact they don't wash & blow dry (unless you ask them to and pay extra) but honestly some days thats a benefit- it's a quick and good quality cut! I went because of all the good reviews -- yes, it was affordable, and yes, it was convenient. But the woman who cut my hair didn't listen at all to what I said. I asked for a trim. I indicated exactly where I wanted it cut. I start a new job on Monday. I really just wanted someone to take 2 inches off so it looked tidy when I meet my new boss and senior leadership for the first time. She removed over 7 inches of hair, and it wasn't cut evenly. I can BARELY put my hair in a ponytail. She literally took the scissors to the back, chopped a bunch off, and THEN said "I just cut here - is that okay?" I said "I want to keep as much length as possible" and she said "I won't shorten it any more" and then.... continued to cut it shorter. I think the worst part was that she kept asking me if I had a boyfriend, why I didn't have a boyfriend, what kind of family I was from, etc. I felt very, very uncomfortable. Then she talked about her daughter gaining weight and needing to lose it before her wedding. She kept commenting on my overall appearance -- she called my hair "big and sexy" (???) and commented on my skin. I hate the haircut, and I feel like crap. I paid $30 to have someone butcher my hair and make me uncomfortable. My hair will grow back, but I will never, ever set foot in here again. read more

I'm really sad I moved out of Massachusetts and can't get my hair cut here anymore. I've been trying to find "my" hair stylist my whole life and have thus tried many, many different salons, including $70, $150, and $200 hair cuts. I have always left these salons feeling disappointed with how my hair looked, and especially after that price. I've been trying to grow my hair out for two decades and always want to keep the length, appreciating that a couple inches will need to come off to maintain healthy hair, but other stylists keep chopping off 4-6 inches without warning, then tell you afterwards that they cut off more even though that hair was healthy and did not need that drastic of a cut. But at Hair International, they listened to what I wanted and did exactly that. It was super easy and fast, and yet they still took their time to really pay attention to what they were doing. Both women who worked on me did great jobs. I loved my hair when I left, it was exactly what I wanted. And such a fantastic price. I think it was $20 or $25 for my very long, curly hair with layers. I got my hair cut here a few times since discovering the place. If I'm ever in town again, I will come back here. Highly recommend. read more

This place is awful for hair color. I was visiting Cambridge and in a bind, and came in for a root touch-up. The Google reviews are surprisingly positive, so I was comfortable taking a chance. The woman who applied my color was very nice, but it was clear she wasn't applying the color properly. The brush was old and rough - she got color on my face, and didn't get all the spots (I had huge patches of white throughout!). The wash out was pretty bad - she barely put conditioner conditioner on, didn't rinse the color out well (I had dye in my ears and on my neck). Again, I still have white hair in very visible spots. They do not blow dry. I spent 60 bucks on terrible color. Not only that, when you pay via Venmo or Zelle they ask that you don't write for hair color, which suggests something shady is going on here. AVOID!!! read more

Great haircut! I called ahead and they were ready 30 minutes later to take me immediately. No frills, no washing included, but it means they really focus on giving you a great haircut. Definitely have found "my place"! Only small downside is it's cash only, but there's a bank across the street and a 7-11 down the road that does cash back. read more

So I called around, and Hair International agreed to see him later the same day. There is no catch; they'll cut your hair for $12. But if you are the kind of person who prefer full service salon and if you get satisfaction by looking at people working busy just for you with small talk and big smiles, this is not the place for you. This place is cheap, good, fast but they don't give full service. At least, that's not what most people seem to go there for. A $12 hair cut, which still fits within a $20 bill including tip, is fast, good, and very satisfactory, if you go home right away and wash your hair yourself. The women who run this place don't waste time. The place always has some people waiting in line, and they cut hair fast. I thought this must be a German operation from the pre-war era or something (by the way, I only know about it from movies and such, and never lived in pre-war era). They are fast because they ask you a few questions to figure out what you want, and just do the best they can in one shot, rather than making incremental cuts. They don't waste time talking about stupid baseball game, president Obama or vacation plan in Europe. They don't make unnecessary steps in their operation. They don't cut, trim and fine tune same hair many times when they know precisely where to cut it in one shot. read more

I was cutting my hair to donate, which means there are some pretty specific requirements, but the stylist understood & gave me just what I wanted. I also appreciate that she didn't try to push me into anything -- often stylists pressure me to do more ambitious things with my hair, but my stylist asked if I wanted layers or bangs, I said no, and she left it at that. read more

Let me start with 2 points: 1. My hair is hard to cut. Really it's a combination of having pretty thick hair which grows out in weird angles and a slightly (alright, very) asymmetric head. Luckily for me, my hair covers up the weird contours of my head quite well so I don't come off looking like an alien, but that is a whole other story which would take way too long to discuss at this time. 2. The nice, pretty Vietnamese ladies at Hair International (HI) know how to cut hair efficiently and skillfully. I have sat down in the waiting area with 3 people ahead of me and still gotten out of there in less than an hour. That's pretty darn impressive. When I used to get my hair cut at Borics, my wife would refuse to comment on my haircuts because she loves me and I'm sensitive. My wife is now very happy with the way I look after my cuts, and she is pretty hard to please. HI is not a place to be pampered (like a salon) or to sit around and watch games (like some old school barber shops in my hometown of Chicago). However, if you want a very good cut with minimal hassle at a low price of 12 bucks, this is the place for you. read more

For $15 this place was perfect! I walked in (granted, it was 2pm on a Tuesday) and they were ready for me before I could get my coat off. I explained how I wanted it cut and I felt confident that she understood me right away. The stylists are Vietnamese, but there wasn't any issue with a language barrier. It was fast, inexpensive, friendly, exactly the cut I wanted, and in a cute little garden atmosphere. It only took about 15 minutes. I have medium-long hair with tight curls, so I've had my share of haircut catastrophes. I've learned that dry haircuts for my hair type must be ridiculously hard. Until I find a stylist who's world famous for that exact type of cut, nobody will ever be allowed near my hair with scissors unless it's dripping wet. Why do stylists ALWAYS want to try that on me!? That's a big reason I stopped wasting money on horrendous $50+ haircuts. They're charging enough money to think they can try something challenging like a curly dry cut, but they just aren't good enough to pull it off. Sorry for the rant, but if you're a curlie then you understand. Anyway, I went in for a trim right after a shower so my hair would be as wet as possible. She thanked me for having it wet already (I take that as a sign that she recognized that it obviously needs to be wet) and she didn't hesitate to get down to business. No wasted time on failed attempts to do something epic, just a quick $15 pragmatic trim. She was attentive to the style left from my previous cut, and made sure to ask me questions about anything I forgot to mention, like how the front was a little longer. This price doesn't include a wash or style though, so be prepared for that. If you want your hair cut wet, I recommend going in to the salon (any salon you go to) with it wet to save time and money. Overall great experience. Much better than comparably priced corporate stores (i.e. supercuts, great clips, etc.) I recommend it! read more

Hair International is a hole in the wall salon that most people probably would never notice from the road. It's run by two Vietnamese women who are really nice, and most of their clientele is local people. They have a little waiting area by the window with magazines and some kids books, which is nice. The one main draw? $12 haircuts (for a long time now). They do a decent job, and are reasonably fast. I've had my hair cut there once or twice, but mainly I take my kids there. They always remember my three-year old and always give him a lollipop after the cut. He actually associates haircuts with lollipops now. One little sticking point, they don't give kids discounts, so I paid $12 for my one-year old to get a trim. But hey, they work well with kids so I just think of the price as kind of a tip. The window has a sign for $50 perms, though I wouldn't know much about that. There's a decent amount of meter parking right in front of the store as well as across the street. read more

I went to Hair International for the first time today and had a really good experience. One of the owners, Dac, gave me an excellent cut and was extremely friendly. I am a guy, so I have a pretty straightforward cut but there are ways to mess it up (ask the chain down the street). Dac even trimmed my bushy eyebrows, something my wife has been trying to get me to do for years. This will be my new go-to place for getting my hair done. They have been there for 22 years, so it will be nice to know that the same people are there every time and that they aren't fresh out of beauty school. And you cannot beat the freaking price. $12 for a haircut??? Where can you get a better deal than that? read more

So i came here because i needed a cheap hair cut and this place seemed to have okay reviews at an affordable price. There are two ladies that cut hair and i guess i got stuck with the sucky one. First i told her how i usually cut my hair, very simple style that everyone should know how to do. It started okay. She shaved my sides and trimmed my top with scissors. Pretty basic stuff until i told her that i wanted it much shorter. At that point she got super pissed for some reason and just took a shaver and shaved all around my head to make it "shorter". I don't understand why you would use scissors to cut the top and when i ask you to make it shorter you would just bring out shavers and shave all around my head instead of just using scissors cutting it shorter. Not only that, she never once said a word to me, and was not very nice at all. This is probably one of the worse haircuts and service i ever received. Its not because it was only a $12 haircut because all my cuts are under $15 and they always turn out fine. Bottom line is, if you still want to come here, choose the friendlier woman. But i wouldn't recommend it cause they dont' give a shit about your hair UPDATE: Despite my horrible experience, i have learned to accept this place just because i had to give this place a benefit of a doubt and also because i don't care too much for my hair as it grows back quite fast. read more
