Came here on a rainy day, suggested it to my Hubby since we have been wanting to go try it ! Well it didnt disappoint we shared a two piece fish basket and traded out fries for onion rings , now let me tell you usually I prefer fries over onion rings .....But the onion rings here omg light fluffy batter cooked to perfection !!!! So so delicious .The fish also light beer batter super super crispy and the fish Well the fish was so juicy and tender and so incredibly scrumptious. My husband got a Guinness beer wich i tried and it was crisp and fit perfect with the fish and onion rings. The place is small nothing to the inside thats special but the food is what is the star of this place. So if ur in Hughson or not , take a drive there you will not regret it !!! We will be back !!!!

First of all, I am not a huge lover of fish and chips. I've always thought that most places don't change their oil much and the flavor of the fry suffers. My daughter has told me about this place and insisted that everything tastes fresh. My wife and I headed over and am glad we did. The fish and fry had a very fresh taste. Fries were good and did not have a fishy taste. I was pleasantly surprised. I tried my son-in-law's shrimp and they were fried perfectly. I really enjoyed the food. Place is clean and the young man checking on our table was friendly and helpful. Can't wait to go back.

I drove all the way from Sonora to try Ann's--and let's be clear, I do not take fish and chips lightly. It's my all-time favorite meal. I've literally gone to the UK in search of the perfect fried fish, so yes, I arrive with expectations. Ann's is a charming little spot: super clean, cozy, and absolutely packed--which is always a good sign. The staff was genuinely kind and welcoming, the kind of place where you feel taken care of, not rushed. I ordered the two-piece fish and chips and asked for extra tartar sauce. They gave me three cups. This alone deserves respect. I was told the wait would be about 30 minutes and was handed a free drink while I waited--hospitality points unlocked. My order was ready right on time. Ann's lives up to the hype. Crispy, flavorful, perfectly fried fish--every bite delivered. While my personal preference leans toward big, chunky UK-style steak fries, I can't fault Ann's fries at all. They held their own. Bottom line: the reviews are spot-on, my standards are high, and Ann's passed the test. I'll absolutely be back--no passport required.

Shrimp - PERFECT! Their cocktail sauce was even delicious!

We made the drive to give it a try, after seeing it on tik tok. It is very small inside, and was packed! The owner lady was so nice and helpful. There is a bit of a wait but it's coming out FRESH and scolding hot (exactly how I like it)! The coating is chefs kiss perfect!! Although in my opinion the fish itself could use some seasoning or flavor. The shrimp was perfect!!!!! Fries were good. I wouldn't make a special trip again, but if I was in town or passing by I would absolutely stop in! Honestly probably the best and closest to UK style we have in the valley!

What a rare find in small town California. Never did I think that I'd find a good fish and chip place in Hughson. Surprisingly Hughson also has great Chinese food but that's a different story. This place is counter service. Walk up and order. The fish is huge! The shrimp is very plump too. They were out of a few things so I just tried these two items. Decor is pretty simple and nothing specific. We went up and asked for refills and were served pretty quickly. Highly recommended!

A Crispy, Golden Treasure Just Off Hughson Ave! Ann's Fish and Chips is the kind of hidden gem that makes you want to tell everyone and keep it a secret all at once. Tucked just off the beaten track, this mom-and-pop spot, serves up some of the most authentic, delicious fried fish I've ever tasted. The fish was perfectly fried--golden and crispy on the outside, tender and mild on the inside. The batter? Absolutely stellar. Light, crunchy, and flavorful without being greasy. I couldn't resist adding the veggie platter (I'm a sucker for deep-fried mushrooms), and I'm so glad I did. Their signature batter turned those soft, fresh veggies into crispy delights. The onion rings especially blew me away--thick-cut, full of real onion flavor, not the usual over-battered mystery rings you find elsewhere. Every bite made me fall more in love with this place. If you're craving classic fish and chips with a homemade touch, Ann's is so worth the detour.

Best fish in the 209 area! I brought my parents here, and they were impressed -- they used to go to Long John Silver's in Modesto and have tried other spots, but this one is hands-down the best. We ordered the 3-piece fish and chips, onion rings, and fried mushrooms, and everything was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. The restaurant was packed when we arrived around 1 p.m. on Saturday, but the wait was absolutely worth it. The staff stayed friendly and attentive despite being busy. I hope as they grow, they stay consistent, because this place is a gem!

I have left wonderful reviews in the past for this place but I have to share my experience…read morerecently. My boyfriend and I have been to Standard Pub several times during the day, and every visit has been fantastic. We've enjoyed the food, drinks, and even had the pleasure of speaking with the owner on multiple occasions. The service was always welcoming, and the food was consistently phenomenal. Because of those great experiences, we decided to bring some friends on a Saturday night. We arrived around 7:30 PM, and the atmosphere looked promising. There appeared to be a DJ setting up, and the crowd seemed excited for a night of music, food, and drinks. Unfortunately, our experience that evening was completely different from what we had come to expect. We ordered food and drinks, and while our server wasn't outright rude, he seemed uninterested in providing the level of service we had previously received. As the night went on, things became increasingly odd. Shortly after ordering another round of drinks, while our drinks were still full and we had just received them, the server approached our table and asked if we were finished. My boyfriend jokingly responded, "No, let me talk to your manager," and laughed, assuming the server was joking as well. The server responded, "Yeah, it's my brother," but with an attitude that left everyone at our table looking at each other wondering what had just happened. He then informed us that we needed to put a credit card on file. At that point, we had already been there for over an hour, and it seemed strange that this requirement was only being brought up then. We also noticed that no other tables around us were being asked for a card. The most disappointing part came when we received the bill. There was an additional $60 service charge added--$35 on my friends' bill and $25 on ours. Confused, we asked for an explanation. The explanations we received kept changing. First, we were told it was because my boyfriend was sitting with another group, which was completely false. Then we were told it was because the bill exceeded $100. After that, we were told it was because there were more than six people in our party, despite there only being four of us. The inconsistent explanations were frustrating and made it feel as though the staff were simply making up reasons to justify the charge. Our issue wasn't necessarily with a service fee itself--it was the lack of disclosure and the conflicting stories we were given when we asked about it. To make matters worse, the receipt also included a separate line for an additional tip. After discussing it with them and explaining that additional charges should be clearly communicated to customers, the service charge was ultimately removed. This review is not a reflection of the food, which remains excellent, nor of our previous experiences at Standard Pub. It is solely based on the service and handling of the situation during our Saturday night visit. We left feeling disappointed and confused, especially because this establishment had earned our trust through many positive visits in the past. I sincerely hope this was an isolated incident and that management addresses these issues so other customers don't have a similar experience

The total for the two entrees and a cocktail for my lady ran just under a hundred, including tip. One caution: this place is LOUD. We stopped by on a late Sunday around 5:30 pm, and the patrons were talking so loud you could hardly hear the person across the table. Earplugs would help.

Tasty or WasteY??? Tasty!!!…read moreI don't know why we never tried this place before a couple months ago. Probably because of the name. We tried it once and now we're hooked. This time we tried the steak nachos. What a tasty surprise! The best nachos I've had in years! I would highly recommend this place. And, not only is the food good, but the patio dining is relaxing. The waitress that works on Sundays is so attentive. She never lets our drink get less than halfway empty before she's bringing us a refill. The prices are great for the huge portions of food.

Horrible service experience…read more When we arrived, the restaurant was only about 30% full and there appeared to be four waitresses on duty. After seating ourselves as instructed, we waited nearly 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged us or came to our table. We ordered two drinks and an appetizer (cheese curds) and requested a beer flight. It then took another several minutes to receive a flight card, and additional time before another waitress finally came over to enter the order. By this point, we had already been waiting approximately 25 minutes. Nearly 30 minutes after being seated, I finally received my flight. The cheese curds never arrived. Shortly afterward, our entrées were delivered. To be fair, the food itself was good. The larger issue was the complete lack of attentiveness from the wait staff. During the time we were waiting, employees appeared more focused on talking amongst themselves and cleaning tables than monitoring customers. At one point, a waitress cleaned the table directly next to us and never acknowledged our presence. Customers should at least be greeted, acknowledged, and offered water shortly after being seated. Instead, we sat for nearly 15 minutes without any interaction whatsoever. If a self-seating system is being used, management needs to ensure staff are actively watching for incoming guests and providing prompt service. To make matters worse, when the bill arrived, we were still charged for the cheese curds that never came to the table. We had already asked two different waitresses about the missing appetizer. The charge was eventually addressed, but it should never have appeared on the bill in the first place. We visited on Sunday, June 14, at approximately 2:45 PM. Our food arrived roughly 75 minutes after we first sat down. We left a $0 tip, which is extremely unusual for us. We normally tip 20-30% for good service, but the service on this visit did not warrant any gratuity. Management should review what occurred during this shift, including staff performance and table coverage procedures. Based on our experience, there were clear failures in customer service, communication, and basic attentiveness. Unless we receive an apology from management and some indication that these issues are being addressed, we do not plan to return. Potential customers should be prepared for slow and highly inconsistent service.

I love this restaurant, This is Southwest cuisine done to perfection. Think Chevy's , but with an extensive menu and food that is actually really good. There was nothing I would change about my visit tonight- it was memorable and fulfilling. For starters , we ordered the Margherita pizza. Not quite Southwest , but it works - trust me! The pizza is wood-fired! The cheese , tomatoes and basil are fresh. Oh , and the tomato sauce they use is just right. Seriously, the pizza here rivals some pizza that I have tried at Italian restaurants. I can't wait to try more pizza creations. For my entree, I opted for the chile verde enchiladas covered in a smooth tomatillo sauce. This enchilada sauce was so tangy and the pico de gallo and guacamole topped them off perfectly. The entree comes with Spanish rice and charro beans. My wife opted for the ribeye steak fajitas , and they were fantastic. The steak was marinated well and it was tender. The only thing that could have made this dish better would be homemade tortillas . Espana's serves up high quality food. Everything that I have tried so far has been phenomenal. The service that we receive is always prompt and friendly , and the food comes out fast -but not too fast. Tonight's meal was a five star experience.
