The wife and I were in the neighborhood and she brought up Ann's Fish & Chips. I was definitely down. We ordered the #1, two fish and chips. We did substitute the chips for onion rings. I am not mad not mad at that decision. The fish were what seemed like two whole filets with a beer batter that would knock your Sox off. Tender fish with a crispy batter. The batter on the onion rings was thick and crispy. SO GOOD!! The service was good super nice. You walk up to the counter and order. And I'm really not a fan of this for the fact, I tip small here. Thats just me. I want to give bigger but you didn't do anything yet. Give me some good customer service and I will give you a ble$$ing. Ambiance was ok. We ordered the 2 piece fish and chips (16.99) Vege Combo (7.99) Soda (1.99) Wine (7.00) The total for our meal was $62.50 Which we thought was pretty high for fish and chips meals. The food was delicious but the service is very slow (probably because they make each meal as the order comes in). The dining space is very small but for a little hole in the wall restaurant it worked. I ordered a water and never received it. We also ordered coleslaw and didn't receive that either. I had to wait in line to ask for it. The staff were all very friendly. Maybe they just need to hire more help. I'm not sure we would make the trip out to Hughson again for their fish and chips but the food was really good. read more

Came here on a rainy day, suggested it to my Hubby since we have been wanting to go try it ! Well it didnt disappoint we shared a two piece fish basket and traded out fries for onion rings , now let me tell you usually I prefer fries over onion rings .....But the onion rings here omg light fluffy batter cooked to perfection !!!! So so delicious .The fish also light beer batter super super crispy and the fish Well the fish was so juicy and tender and so incredibly scrumptious. My husband got a Guinness beer wich i tried and it was crisp and fit perfect with the fish and onion rings. The place is small nothing to the inside thats special but the food is what is the star of this place. So if ur in Hughson or not , take a drive there you will not regret it !!! First of all, I am not a huge lover of fish and chips. I've always thought that most places don't change their oil much and the flavor of the fry suffers. My daughter has told me about this place and insisted that everything tastes fresh. My wife and I headed over and am glad we did. The fish and fry had a very fresh taste. Fries were good and did not have a fishy taste. I was pleasantly surprised. I tried my son-in-law's shrimp and they were fried perfectly. I really enjoyed the food. We were very excited to visit on our 41st. Anniversary. We loaded up the family and unfortunately arrived just before closing. Everyone was very forgiving and helpful. Nice establishment. Enjoyed the staff, very helpful and friendly. I loved the backstory. The food was good and I especially enjoyed the chips and shrimp. My wife who is extremely picky concerning her food thoroughly enjoyed her fish, which is no small praise! They had run out of Guinness and only had a different brand of stout. I've literally gone to the UK in search of the perfect fried fish, so yes, I arrive with expectations. They gave me three cups. This alone deserves respect. I was told the wait would be about 30 minutes and was handed a free drink while I waited--hospitality points unlocked. This review is for the food truck on 217 F St in Oakdale. I was super excited to try this- I love fish and chips! Everything lacked salt, no problem, I can salt it myself. They were out of coleslaw just after lunch hour. The batter was crispy but the fish was tough and kinda small, especially for the price. The onion rings were on point! Delicious and crispy, but again, could use salt after they come out of the fryer. Employee was nice, but it took quite a long time to get our food. Glad we ate there because I'm thinking the steam would've made everything soggy. But not glad the tables are on the hot asphalt with umbrellas. Most people were leaving their cars running in the parking lot while they waited, which just made it hotter. Overall my belly just feels heavy. We made the drive to give it a try, after seeing it on tik tok. It is very small inside, and was packed! The owner lady was so nice and helpful. There is a bit of a wait but it's coming out FRESH and scolding hot (exactly how I like it)! The coating is chefs kiss perfect!! Although in my opinion the fish itself could use some seasoning or flavor. The shrimp was perfect!!!!! Fries were good. Everything was on point here! Customer service, food, atmosphere. We got extra fries just because the cook thought we wouldn't be happy with the fries he gave us! It all tasted delicious but it really showed how friendly they were to give us extra just in case.. you don't find restaurants like that anymore. Also free refills!which are hard to find too. Made the drive out to Houston to try this spot I've been hearing about . Small , cute layout, tables were clean and service was friendly. Order took quite some time don't think you could do this in a lunch break without calling in first. Ordered fish, vegetables, and chicken strips. Fish was decent , vegetables were ok , but the chicken? Well I was very disappointed no love at all there just typical frozen fast food massed produced garbage. I was expecting the light crispy lightly battered ... like Long John silvers has and what they put on everything else in house. They dropped the ball on this one . What a rare find in small town California. Never did I think that I'd find a good fish and chip place in Hughson. Surprisingly Hughson also has great Chinese food but that's a different story. This place is counter service. Walk up and order. The fish is huge! The shrimp is very plump too. They were out of a few things so I just tried these two items. I have been waiting to try this place. Today the food truck was in Modesto so I stopped got 3 meals. We were very disappointed by the taste especially , because I was so excited to try it. Everything lacked flavor the fish did have a decent crisp on it but there was absolutely no flavor to the batter the fries didn't have any flavor. Best fish in the 209 area! I brought my parents here, and they were impressed -- they used to go to Long John Silver's in Modesto and have tried other spots, but this one is hands-down the best. Single fish or as an add on is WAY too expensive. Create a 2 piece fish combo with 3 shrimp please. The customer service is top notch. I would say that please improve in getting orders out FASTER please. People can tell when the food sits a tad bit too long the batter gets cold . Work together please. It was a Saturday afternoon so it wasn't busy at all, ample parking available. The place is good sized, tables available for you to sit and eat. The ladies working were very attentive and nice! We got the special of the day which came with 2 orders of fish and chips, 2 slaws and 2 sodas for $38. Also added an order of shrimp and chips and onion rings, plus obvi some beers, lol. Girl, if I can give you a small amount of advice, find a way to give people that are seafood/shellfish sensitive a way to have a space of allergy sensitivity. Recently, I asked my husband to buy me some coleslaw, which was completely fine!!! He bought some chicken strips and fries. I think it was called F&S Salt... so of course when my daughter found Ann's on Yelp I had to make the drive. They did not disappoint. Absolutely full of flavor, crispy out side not greasy,and flakey white fish inside. I'll admit the fries are not what im used to but they work just fine. I decided that the kid's one piece I had previously wasn't filling enough for me.
