Definitely worth a stop if you like history
    Jessy M.

Short, easy hike with great history and views. We enjoyed a little exercise and learning history about the Annaberg Ruins in St John. Definitely worth a stop in your on St John. We got there around 10 and found parking no problem. If you can't walk to stairs you can be dropped off to avoid them. We are grateful to Carol who we met who told us about this place.

Second visit to the Annaberg Sugar Plantation Ruins (my first 13 years ago on a girls trip). I remembered it being an interesting historical site perched on a hill providing amazing views of Leinster Bay. Factoring in the older/wiser analytics, I found much more appreciation for the site on this visit. We grabbed a taxi from the tiki bar at Maho Bay and it was just a short 5-7 min drive. We were dropped off right at the entrance. But there is ample parking if you are traveling by rental car. Views abound from every vantage point. Views when ascending the wood stair walk path from the lower parking lot, views from the ruins, look out points that reveal spectacular panoramic views of the bay, BVI, and beyond. Good to know: Fee is Honor System Donation (fold dollars and place in metal pillar secured at front entrance in front of closed visitor station, Ample Free Parking, lizards are not camera shy, views are spectacular! Enrich yourself with some history, get the blood flowing and make the effort to check it out and remember to respect the site and take your trash with you.

After plenty of beach time, we took the short drive up to the plantation ruin for a look. We got there around 1:30 and easily found a spot in the parking lot. We spent around 30 minutes strolling around the grounds, reading the historical markers and imagining what life was like on that spot 200 years ago at the height of the sugar boom on the island. Other stuff to know: -parking and admission are free -don't be surprised to encounter Charlie, the caretaker who will probably offer you some fresh cut coconut (tips appreciated) -30 min here is enough for your self-guided tour -just walk up the wooded steps from parking to get started -there's also a nice walking trail just around the bend to waterlemon (lemon, not melon) Cay-about 30 min and some snorkeling at the end of the trail -bathrooms (outhouses) next to parking lot Worth a short visit-while there are lots of sugar ruins on the island, this one seems to be in much better shape.

You can do an "encounter" for about $100 less, which is basically touching them. The "swim with" was $182 per person in June 2026. The kid loved it and I think it was worth the money. The basic entry fee was $29 per adult. The ocean park is on the small side. There were small exhibits of sharks, birds, and coral reef fish. The largest area is for dolphins. Parking is hard but when you pay for entry they give you a permit and there are special places reserved for permit holders. We ate at the restaurant, Nautilus 340, and it had a very good burger. Really nice char flavor. There's a gift shop (of course) and a snack shop. Overall, we had a good time. The basic park is not a whole lot to look at but with the add-ons it turned out to be a very nice afternoon.

Fun facts were shared and I learned a lot. Q and A also is accepted to answer your particular questions. It was clear that the keepers cared deeply about the animals and were well involved in their care and preservation. They fed the sea turtles as they talked about them. We then went out to the observation area and fed the fish in the ocean 'trash' fish. It was fun watching the feeding frenzied as they fought over the fish food. That area was open and I was surprised at how many fish were hanging around there waiting for food. We did the sea lion talk. They brought out one of their sea lions and showed us their many bahaviors. The bleachers were close to the sea lion 'stage' so we got a nice up close view. We fed the Lorikeets which is always fun. We then went to the dolphin talk. There was no show but a couple was doing a dolphin encounter after the talk so we could see the dolphin showing its bahaviors as it engaged with the trainer and couple. We had some lunch in the snack bar. The curly fries were delicious. The park is not super huge but we spent over two hours there and enjoyed it very much.

The museum guide lady was very helpful and answered any questions that was needed. It's actually a small museum but we stayed there a bit longer than most. They had a hurricane simulator booth which we had fun with. Also had a gift shop which I picked up a St.Thomas Christmas ornament. To take back home for my Christmas tree. We enjoyed our visit. I recommend checking them out if this is your sort of thing.

The museum starts either a quick video explaining what you're about to see. Then the doors open and you walk into a well done exhibit hall. Exhibits include vases, weapons, tools and coins found from various shipwrecks. The centerpiece is the Odyssey which is an in underwater robot used to collect artifacts. There is a second floor accessible by a slow elevator or stairs which tells a little bit about some of the pirates in the area. There are a few photo spots, hands on exhibits and a hurricane simulator with wind speeds up to 75 mph. I felt the $20 admission fee was reasonable compared to the $30 for the skylift. The museum is located next to the skylift and about a 15 minute walk from the cruise ships.

When you're shopping your way through the fifty…read morethousand jewelry stores in Charlotte Amalie, you get really hot between the heat and the humidity, so Magic Ice is like a little slice of heaven, I want to preface this by saying I've been to Minus 5 in Las Vegas where you pay $37 to hang out in a bar made of ice and have a couple of drinks... but don't even think of bringing your own camera in there. Magic Ice is completely different and better in so many ways! First, Magic Ice is not just a bar made of ice, it's an ice museum with a large collection of ice sculptures. You walk through the collection of ice sculptures that are lit with colored lights AND YOU CAN TAKE AS MANY PHOTOS AS YOU WANT! In the middle of the museum of ice there is a large ice bar shaped like a pirate ship where you get a shot of rum. You can choose to buy more drinks if you want to, the first shot is included in the $20 entrance fee. AND, there is a slide! I wussed out and skipped the ice slide, but the husband had fun going down it. It is super cold in there... obviously, but they give you a big hooded cape and leg warmers and gloves to keep you warm. My toes still froze in my flip flops, though! The bartender told us that these particular sculptures were carved all the way back in November, so they last some time. There was some melting that had taken place on some and he said it was about time when they are going to be redoing them now. It's really an awesome experience. If you are in St. Thomas, seriously, do this. We had a lot of fun in there goofing around and taking photos. I highly recommend Magic Ice! I want to go back!

It's actually not that big and we were done walking around the entire ice bar within a minute. Price is $22 dollars for a free shot of cruzan rum, a souvenir glass, and a couple slides down the ice slide. Here in Vieques, this fort that served the same purpose is much smaller, not fully intact and locally managed. On my visit last week there was no admission fee nor would they even accept a donation. This initially surprised me but then while touring it I realized that this museum is still recovering from Hurricane Maria. Therefore not all of the normal displays are out for view but I still think this fort/museum is worth your time to visit. It takes about one minute to drive here when you leave the downtown area of Isabel II. At its unassuming entrance you drive up a steep hill to the fort. Parking is mostly on grass wherever you want to. Up there is the old fort brick entrance and the old fort brick walls with a few cannon added in. This area offers a commanding view of the town, port and Puerto Rico about 10 miles offshore. It is beautiful up there. Inside the newer building (built in 1991 that houses the indoor artifacts) it's a 2 story structure with exhibit rooms on both floors. It's open air ventilation with usually a breeze blowing though.
