Mainly for safety and cross contamination risks. Kennel cough can spread like wildfire and I don't want to risk my dog's health. And as much as my little dog may think he can run with the "big" dogs, he could easily get himself hurt in a group play setting. Dog's attitudes can change at the drop of a hat (especially in an environment that is not familiar) and god forbid my dog or any other goes Cujo out of fear or any other stress response.
