I visited Anna for the 2nd time yesterday. I went in thinking I needed a big trim for split ends but after taking a thorough look at my hair, she said my hair is very healthy and looking great. A little bit about Anna - she used to cut for the Vietnam Army until 1975. Years later, she moved to LA and opened up her shop. It's been around since 1981. Anna is a Vidal Sassoon-trained hair stylist. Along with decades of experience, she hasn't lost her touch. Since 2018, I've been consistently going to Anna's for a haircut (even through covid). I used to live in DTLA, then moved to San Gabriel Valley. Sure, there are plenty of great Asian barbers and stylists out here. But honestly, I would rather make the extra drive out to her place in Chinatown. Anna has never rushed through a session, because she cares and only takes one client at a time. I usually ask for the Short Pompadour (pictured here) and then Anna takes her time making sure it's done right - the first time. While she's working, we'll catch up on life, talk about food, travel, politics, you name it - Anna is a good conversationalist. One time she even recommended me some of her great home remedies for a sore throat ! Look, there are places where you pay the person a few bucks, get an expedited cut - business as usual - sorry Anna's is not one of those places. Anna and her salon is a gem in Chinatown. She's a veteran hair stylist who can cut any style of hair. I was a regular at her salon pre-pandemic and she would cut my hair really well with a classic side part. Afterwards, I grew out my hair long and it had been a while since I got it cut by her. I wanted to try a mullet style so I showed her a picture and she was able to cut it exactly how I wanted! I have been to Anna twice (November 2020 and October 2021) and loved my haircut both times!! Embarrassingly, the first time I went to her was to fix bangs that I attempted cut myself... let's just say I looked like a clown. I texted her one evening, and she booked me in her schedule the next morning and did an amazing job fixing it! She softened up the mess, and it looked great. Literally blown away by Anna and her craft! I've never had such a pleasant experience at a salon with such a skilled hair stylist (an artist actually). She is Vidal Sassoon trained which means she's the real deal (it's Sassoon Academy now and it's definitely not the same as it used to be, hence the real deal).
