Whenever I visit my sister in Sarasota and my tummy growls, two words immediately pop into my mind: Surfer. Sandwich. Anna's Deli is a local staple I had the pleasure of discovering this year, and when I tell you I should really start billing them for this sandwich living rent free in my mind 24/7 -- I'm serious! This sandwich is a simple concept: ham, turkey, Swiss, cucumbers, and Anna's sauce on marble rye. Somehow, though, it manages to be so insanely delicious I just have to eat the massive thing in one sitting every time! It's a small space that is extremely popular but we nabbed the corner table in the back, which was perfect for visiting! The service was order at the front and then they call out your name! Anna's Deli has a very good reputation in the area. I decided to try the famous sandwiches and after my experiences, I am not quite sure what the hype is about. I have tried The Surfer and The Villager. When you order one of their signature sandwiches, be sure to ask for any toppings you want such as lettuce, tomato, onion etc. It seems that their signature sandwiches only come with one topping. With that said, the sandwiches are very good. They source very good bread which is the most important part of a sandwich. Their cold cuts are sliced thin. The sandwich comes with some kind of mayo mustard mixture which is very good, but I don't think they tell you that it comes with it. The restaurant is packed from 11:30-1:30 with people coming for lunch. There are plenty of seats but almost none available during that time. When you walk in, there is a small line to the right where you will wait to place an order. Overall, I would recommend trying the food here however, I feel that it is overpriced. I ordered a sandwich, a side of potato salad and a drink which cost $17. That is too much for what is simply a cold cut sandwich. read more

Wow! I see why this place is loved, great sandwiches, salads and service. I am gluten free yet was able to get the Ruben sandwich without the bread, so good! My sister had the surfer sandwich with marbled pumpernickel bread & cucumbers. She loved it! The staff is super friendly and helpful at making recommendations. Simply put, the food is really good ! I hadn't been here in quite a while so when a friend suggested meeting here for lunch I was happy to go. Between the two of us, we ordered 3 different sandwiches so we could try a few different things. We ordered the Reuben (warm, perfectly toasted bread and just the right amount of everything), egg salad with lettuce and tomato on marbled rye (really good except I noticed a hint of relish or something I'm not a fan of) and roast beef on rye with deli mustard and mayo (great quality ingredients). The sandwiches came with several pickle spears and I added a small side of potato salad. The potato salad was pretty good but had large chunks of potato which isn't my preferred style. So to be clear, on a food only review, Anna's might come close to being 5 stars. After that, it drops off a little. The atmosphere is kinda rough around the edges. The set-up for ordering or picking up orders is not ideal. Especially, considering how busy they are because of the great food. If I owned Anna's, I would shut it down for a week, spend $10k - $20k revamping the place and reopen as the best deli in Sarasota. Just a thought. read more

I had the worst corned beef sandwich in my life from this deli. The meat was so dry you could rub two pieces together to start a fire. It was supposed to have swiss cheese on it but there were just a few spots of what might have been cheese that I could identify. A friend reccomended this little Sandwhich shop and we decided to stop on our way out of town for the holiday. The store was clean, the employees making food wore gloves and the smells were divine, a great sign. All I can say is Yum. I ordered the Italianna it's a warm sandwhich, and my friend got the Villager. The Villager has bologna, salami and swiss. I normally don't eat bologna, however, I tried a bite and it was delucious. The meats they use are on display and seem up be high quality. I asked to have the Italianna with the Italian dressing on the side, I reccomend this to be sure you experience the best flavor profile. The ham, salami, pepperoni and house sauce they use with the melted provolone and fresh lettuce, tomatoes and onions is a taste explosion. I tried the Italian dressing, which is good, I just liked this sandwich better with out it. The only thing I did not care for was the potato salad, it was very bland. They have won a couple of local awards for good reason, if your in the area give this busy lunch spot a try I'll be back. read more

The food is good, I wish they had sub roll options, but the bread is fresh and the sandwiches are decently proportioned. I had the surfer and my boyfriend had the villager, it was interesting we had to ask for such things as lettuce, tomatoes and onion (most only come with one item), so heads up if you want those items on your sandwich, you may have to ask. The soup sizes are disappointing, a bowl looked more like a cup- but the clam chowder was good. It was a little off putting for us as I asked about adding Mayo since it had the Anna's sauce (I don't know what is in the sauce lol), but the cashiers response was a little rude and not very helpful so I forgo the Mayo lol. I wouldn't return for the service, but I may return for the food. read more
