Everything was yummy. Cute ambience, very much a classy upscale 50's style deli. Remember if you want a kids cheeseburger you should ask for cheese for the kids burger. (Mind you it does say hamburger so that was our fault). My Reuben was delicious. I am a picky Reuben eater, the marble rye was butter/flat top toasted (a nice crunch) with fresh corned beef, Swiss, dressing and I enjoyed the pickle on it. The right amount of everything. Beautiful place. When you walk in it feels like you are going to have the most amazing meal ever. We both selected the PAM breakfast. One was ordered as is and it was rated 7 out of 10. OUCH The other PAM was modified and I rated this one the same. Another OUCH I wanted so much to love this place but when you're eating your meal and thinking my OJ at home is sooo much better than this one. I wonder how long this bacon has been sitting around because it's dry and tough? THAT's NOT GOOD. Food should taste fresh as though it was just made, FOR ME. This food was not. It lacked flavor was not very warm and again did not express freshness. Bagel was also just okay. No where near a New York Bagel. Overall for a restaurant to be memorable each individual item has to be the best. This results in a total amazing meal. This meal unfortunately was not amazing just Okay. What was good? Glad you asked. Coffee was warm & tasted good. Extra points for providing real cream on the side. Love that! It's a great touch! The cream cheese was excellent. Service was also good. I have been here twice since I wrote this review and have been seriously disappointed each time. First, I got a Caesar salad to go only to get home and see there was no salad dressing. When I got home and called, they said I could drive all the way back and pick it up. I asked to speak to a manager, she said she would refund my lunch. SHE NEVER DID. This place packs a punch when it comes to the style of the place. When you walk in you're immediately transported to an elegant 1950s style New York diner. It's a photogenic place, and somewhere you can relax over breakfast. They open at 8am and serve breakfast, lunch, and some dinner meals too. I went for the Latke eggs Benedict with pastrami. The hollandaise sauce was flavorful but the pastrami portion was really quite small. The coffee was disappointing; quite watery without a real flavor. I'd skip that next time. Service was excellent. This is the spot for a light, delicious soup and sandwich. Can't beat their 'Pickle for a Nickle' either, two (2) picks and some coleslaw. The whitefish croquettes are my absolute favorite. Palm Ave is a classic deli in downtown Sarasota, Florida. I had the 1871 sandwich, which is like a Reuben, but with navel pastrami instead of corned beef. Juicy and drippy. My wife had stuffed cabbage, which was flavorful, and perhaps the best thing we tried at the Palm. We shared a fluffy blueberry cheesecake for dessert. I included a picture of the wall of photos of famous guests, and a look past the bar into the kitchen. There is a garage next door. Highly reviewed Deli in the neighborhood of my hotel I'm staying in for work. I spend a two days in Sarasota a month at minimum, so I'll constantly looking for great places to eat. I've walked by the Palm deli many times late at night when it's closed. It's a very nice space inside. The ordering system is confusing, there's a self order and pay kiosk, which I found to be a pain in the ass and abandoned my order half way through the confusion. Go to the counter and place your order and find a table. Cappuccino was great, latkes were big and tasty served with applesauce and sour cream. The pastrami egg and cheese on bagel was mediocre at best. I've been to 20+ places that have better breakfast bagels. The bagel was dry, and the amount of pastrami was a joke compared to the pictures I saw online! I had a slice, maybe a slice and a half of pastrami for $14?!? Unacceptable in my book. Many pics on Yelp and Google show heaping piles of pastrami, but I got a crappy sandwich. I Wasn't happy. If I am to go back, I may not get a bagel Sammie, I might go with a platter or other plated bfast. read more

Same owner as Kojo & Bar Hana (did not get to enjoy this yet but it's beautiful, intimate & worth going back for). The only disappointment was there needs to be a few things more vegan. Especially the latke (one of the easiest things to make). Now to the best part of the review. I'm the only vegan in my family & he was so helpful. I do believe that for a fantastic New York style deli, the bagel game needs to be stepped up. I'll start with what was very good - the Reuben. Palm Ave is apparently best know for their classic pastrami sandwiches but I couldn't pass up a Rueben. The corned beef was moist and delicious. Perhaps it could be a bit bigger with a touch more sauerkraut but really it couldn't have tasted much better. Highly recommended. The side knish was ok, in all honesty I think it may have been a Costco knish. They had good deli mustard on the table which was appreciated. Hot Honey Waffle & Chicken came with a nice portion of fried chicken. It did seem to be a bit over cooked. Lots of flavor, definitely on the hot side. Eggs hash was not a hit. The eggs over easy on top were prepared well but the corned beef in the hash was too chunky and had an odd taste, somewhat like old oil. Most was left over. Making it worse, they were out of Hollandaise sauce and couldn't make the latke eggs Benny so the eggs hash was a second choice. Probably best to stick to NY deli classics which seems to be their strength. Service was ok but not too attentive. The interior of the restaurant is reminiscent of a NY deli, but cleaner. L'Chaim! To life! As the Jews say! Went here on a first date. Excellent choice Great ambience but busy since we went at lunchtime on a Saturday. We sat at a table in the back corner which was nice and more private. The large windows provided a nice view of the street and ample lighting. It was not too hot but a comfortable temperature even though the sun was shining directly on me. The hum of the conversation from the adjacent tables was present but we could still hear each other. Seating was varied and ample for both small and larger parties. Bright and cheerful interior with an homage to its deli heritage with checkered floors and art deco vibes. Service was consistent and prompt throughout. I hadn't tried Jewish food before so I was excited to foray into a new type of cuisine. My date suggested we try the vanilla egg cream soda. Fizzy and delicious. Definitely something memorable. Insider tip: Fear not the milk mustache and defer the use of a straw to get the full effect of the cream and fizziness below for a proper first sip. Do it quickly because the fizz goes away within minutes. For those with a lactose intolerance, I survived without any 'incidents' so I think you can risk a few sips if you can handle cheese, ice cream, or gelato. Our first entree was the Chilled Beet, Strawberry & Watermelon Gazpacho with rye croutons, toasted almonds, fresh horseradish, and dill. What a dill-icious and gorgeous dish! I didn't want to touch it. So I enjoyed staring at it for a few moments because beauty should be appreciated before devouring it. Don't judge me I was hungry and I don't think food should be wasted. The cool slickness of the soup juxtaposed against crunchy rye croutons and toasted almonds was perfectly balanced. I would definitely get this again. We decided to then share the Sablefish lightly spiced and smoked alaskan black cod. Again, beautifully presented with the vegetable schmear. I being Filipino, had no problem, palming the delectable food. Maybe, it was strategic because you know 'Palm' deli right? The fish was slightly salty and the capers even saltier so I would recommend you not skimp on the schmear. I really love (red) onions so that was a welcome flavor. For those of you who oddly do not care for onions the flavor was mild and did not overpower but rather, enhanced the rest of the dish, so say I. For dessert we tried the Challah Bread pudding. I have a thing for trying any bread pudding because I'm on quest to top the best bread pudding I've had to date at Montrio Bistro in Monterey, CA. My date was kind enough to humor me. I should challah back at him for being such a great guy. The bread pudding was good. Soft. As I remember I also liked the sauce. I even ate the raisins which I am developing more of a tolerance for #adultingnextlevel In summary: it's a versatile place. Great to take your family and friends, or in my case a date! It's located in downtown Sarasota which is very walkable and charming. The food is not only a culinary experience, but an ethnic one as well. Either way you can't lose. Win win! read more

A good NY breakfast I was downtown with an appetite and a little extra time, time to try the new Palm Avenue Deli. I stepped into a fairly large open area restaurant with a modern upscale feel. I was greeted as soon as I crossed the threshold and was offered a choice of tables. My server was right over to introduce himself and get me started with a drink. They have their menu displayed outside so I was all set with what I wanted to try, their "Burnt Ends" Pastrami Hash & Eggs, so he also got that going. I want to say what a pleasure it was talking to my server. The restaurant wasn't busy so I did take advantage of that to chat and ask some questions. Palm Avenue Deli offers many NY Deli staples, like bagels, corned beef and pastrami dishes and sandwiches, smoked fish, and so much more. My "Burnt Ends" Pastrami Hash & Eggs was mostly cubes of tender pastrami, lots and lots of pastrami with one side "burnt". An impressive and filling dish. I did notice a high fat ratio, most cubes have the pastrami, a thin layer of fat cap on one side, and then on that side the burnt part. I liked it, but I will be picking something a little healthier for future visits. I really want to try their pickles and slaw and Matzo Ball Soup soon. All in all I was very pleased with my visit and recommend Palm Avenue Deli to others. read more

Service is welcoming, fast-paced, with a retro diner ambiance. Kitchen is open for all to see and wide windows makes this place appear bigger than it is. Important to note that although they have extended their operating hours, breakfast is only served until 11:AM, even on weekends. This is a huge miss, hence the 4 stars. I can't see why Breakfast can't be longer on weekends. Pastrami is delicious and I highly recommend. The hash brown potatoes have caramelized onions that elevate the flavor and portions are generous. Both we would get again. However, the Taylor Ham breakfast sandwich was pitiful with only 2 very thin slices of meat you barely tasted it. Also, be prepared for the egg is a runny mess. Sad to say, Not a repeat order for us. We did see other breakfast items we might venture to try if we are operational early on another weekend. read more

The Eggs Benedict with salmon and avacado over potato latkes was perhaps the best Eggs Bene I've ever had. The eggs were poached perfectly and the hollandaise had a light lemon flavor. I've been to Jewish deli's for pastrami sandwiches in the past but have not had the iconic noshes and sides and Palm served some delicious ones (truth be told I've been fascinated with Jewish food since the Seinfeld episode where George's dad makes noshes for a Jewish singles social). It's a nice restaurant with out-door seating, black walls and black and white tiles dominate, its large street side windows brighten up the airy feel. The staff is super friendly, greeted us with a warm welcome. It was a Saturday morning but there wasn't much of a wait. Service was quite fast and drinks arrived soon after our order was in. My daughter's boyfriend is Jewish so could help us but the waiter answered all the questions we had about the menu. Just to highlight how awesome the staff was, the day before I stopped in to grab some dessert and some bagels. After putting our order in at the digital kiosk, the hostess came over to tell me they were out of bagels, but that they had the bread pudding. She was very apologetic and said that she would comped the pudding. What a great gesture. We started with the $.05 pickles, probably the best pickle I've ever had and meal just got better. We started with blintzes, latkes, and the kreplach which wasn't what I expected but was amazing. Two of us got the pastrami on rye, the single order and it was huge. My wife got the scoop of chicken salad on a bagel, my daughter got the white fish salad platter and a friend got the Rachel. It was all delicious. There was quite a bit on the menu that I wanted to try, like the hotdog and patty melt. Sadly I only have a picture of the white fish salad.
