Annette's includes a highly inventive and diverse salad bar - including one ingredient (Lotus root) that I had to ask about. Breakfast and entree portions were huge and delicious. I had the Kingwood Grill, which ought to be named "The Carnivore's Delight." The tater tots accompanying it were nicely crisp and they easily accommodated my request for 1000 Island on the side. My wife had the Taco omlette and, like me, took about half of it home for later. The ambiance is dark, but a little too crowed to be intimate. The staff was very attentive to our needs - and refills. Three of us and three bad meals. I had the razor clams and oysters. The oysters were just ok. The razor clams were greasy and with mushy breading. One sister has the Fisherman Fettuccine. The fettuccine was way way overcooked to almost mush. One sister had Shepard Pie. I didn't try it, but it didn't look appetizing and she didn't like it. Three strikes Annette's "You Are OUT" My husband and I have tried to love our local neighborhood restaurant but we just can't take the really bad food! The salad bar is so unsanitary with knats flying all about while your trying to pick through bits of wilted and slimy lettuce pieces. Inexcusable. I've been going to Annette's for years and sill do out of habit. However, the quality of food has plummeted and prices have sky-rocked over the last year. The quality is that of a chain restaurant, and the friendly staff that "always knows your name" has been replaced with a revolving door of new employees. The great meat they used to serve has now been replaced with low quality product that is covered up with large quantiles of salt. It's a shame that this great neighborhood gathering place is now no different than your basic chain restaurant. read more

My daughter and I went here yesterday 4-14-19. Have heard that the place is "FABULOUS" the place is "DISGUSTING". We got there fairly early, around 8 am, the place was packed but we got seated right away. I was told by the owners husband that they had the best, hands down, eggs benedict in town. Ha, it was not even on their regular menu, but it happened to be on their specials, but how odd, on a croissant roll? who eats it like that? So, everywhere I go I try eggs benny to give the review. my favorite breakfast of all. So I ordered it off the special and had them put it on an english muffin, had their fried smashed potatoes. Gross. the food was COLD. the eggs were somewhat runny but were hard on the edges of the yolk. The flavor was acceptable. My daughter ordered the veggie skillet. The shredded cheese was melted on top, but the food was cold??? she ordered a pancake for the toast and I can make better pancakes at home. It was flat and NO flavor, she took all but a couple of bites of her breakfast home to re-heat it. We also took a piece of chocolate cake home and it was old and hard... Our waitress on the other hand, was very sweet, the hostess was a sour old crust who seemed stressed out and didn't really want to be there. They needed more wait staff. I had never been there before and did not know I had to pay at the table, so when I went to the front desk, I asked the old crust if she could take my payment. She said she would try. I'm a big fan of Westgate. I've never made it out here for lunch/dinner, but have the breakfast dozens of times over the years. Great portions, good prices, friendly staff and really good food. They have a pretty diverse menu, with some unique dishes along with the staples. As mentioned before, portion sizes are huge, so bring an appetite. The Titan is almost enough to feed 3, the full omelets are ginormous and even the country fried steak is a meal made for kings. This place never disappoints. We always eat in the bar because I like the no kids thing. The food is always spectacular and the service is amazing. You can tell all the folks at the bar are regulars and you get the feeling you are invading their space. So WHAT! Had breakfast(and lunch as I ate the other half of my meal a few hours later) at Annettes. Wow big portions of your standard breakfast fair done well. I had the haystack with a huge pile of above average hash browns tons of sausage, onions and peppers covered in cheese. Only criticism is that I think they may have forgot the baking power in the homemade biscuit, It was the size of a softball and weighed about 2 pounds. We stopped here for lunch today, and were pleasantly surprised at finding a great little place close to home. I ordered the Cool Ranch Wrap and my husband had the Reuben. The kids had giant mickey mouse shaped pancakes as big as their head, which made them extremely happy! I wasn't super hungry so I thought the wrap would be a nice, light meal. HA! It was enormous and chock full of juicy chicken, bacon and veggies. We also ordered the clam chowder, which was delicious. My husband ordered the Reuben and said he really enjoyed it. Their dessert display looked incredible. My kids were literally drooling over it! I would like to try a dessert next time I stop in. Our waitress was incredible. Four of us looked forward to a relaxing and enjoyable dinner last night. I ordered the fish and chips with a side of clam chowder. What I got was a bowl of wallpaper paste (yes, that thick) with too much bacon, and no clams. The fish was barely warm, and very greasy. The fries were pale and so soggy, they looked like they had been left over from lunch. My husband ordered the Grilled Chicken Salad. The chicken was not grilled, it was cold, and buried under iceberg lettuce. The rest of the salad consisted of fist sized mounds of rubbery orange cheese, and, again, too much cold bacon. Our friends also endured the clam chowder, as well as the salad bar. Shame on you Annette's, for serving some of the worst food we have had in Salem. read more

I really like the potato pancakes. I had them for the first time yesterday morning. And, I'm thinking about them this morning. Enough said :) Try them with your breakfast instead of the hash browns. I had it as part of the $5.99 two egg breakfast. Great deal. Oh, if you don't like bacon and chives, these potato pancakes aren't for you. One of my favorite breakfast places in town! Word of mouth gets a lot of press, but their waits are extreme. Here you get less of a wait, generous portions, and delicious food. The food was all edilble but the steak was well done. I ordered medium. My daughter's French Toast was bland to the point of Hospital food. Sorry, not impressed with the food. The service was good though. The coffee was half way decent. If I wanted Denny's I would pay half as much and just IHOP instead. For a thirty dollar breakfast for 2, I expect much better. The sad part was that when I mentioned that my daughter wouldn't eat any more of the French Toast because it was so bad. They just took her plate and disappeared leaving the check. I never met a manager or talked to another person as I was leaving. I understand that I am not a regular and impressing me is not there objective, but an I'm sorry would have been nice. 8 dollars for substandard French Toast stings a bit. This is a great little bustling breakfast joint, fast-paced and a little bit loud and packed for good reason because the portions are not only large but the food is great for the price and the location is kind of nice little bit off of the beaten path and if you're in that area of the Edgewater West Salem section of town it really is the best little spot for breakfast or lunch probably as well. You have to be careful though because they are so fast at filling your coffee That you will walk out of there wired to the gills! read more
