Let me preface this by saying I'm been there a few times, so my review is lenient due to other positive experiences. On my latest trip there, everything was going well until I left. Being the good patron that I am, I often bus my own table to the bar area. When I dropped off my glass this time, the bartender asked me twice if I paid. I paid her in cash not more than a half hour before that. She still raised a accusatory eyeball as I said this. Why would I go to the bar and drop off my glass if I was trying to bail without paying? Next time, bar staff, please take your memory medication before going to work. Despite how cool this place looks, I won't be returning. read more

The Cellar is a very cool spot. I had the pleasure of chatting with the owner and she has done a really good job of creating space that is very unique and welcoming to both locals and no locals. Ambiance: funky, eclectic, comfy. Did you know they have a historic jail cell, board games, and trivia? Covered outdoor seating? I didn't, but I like it. Food: the only place that still offers zucchini sticks to my knowledge! Love it! We only stopped in for a quick bite after a long morning, so our order was light. But the hush puppies were *amazing*, and the sausage-pretzel business was great. Location: close in, on the river side of Edgewater, with lots of parking. Service: more friendly than fast, which was fine with us; we were there at an odd hour and the bartender was on her own and cooking too, but everything came out perfectly. Cocktail: I had the Velveteen Rabbit and it was scrumptious. My husband tried a beer that I wish I could remember; I stole a taste and it reminded me of the golden era of Boulder Brewing (RIP Hazed & Infused). I went with high hopes and was pretty let down. There were only 7 beers on tap with over half out and not replaced. We got zucchini fries which were delicious with a touch of spice but a lot seemed to have almost no zucchini in the breading. It could be our fault as we ordered the pasta dishes- bacon Mac and chicken Alfredo. We will update when we go to try the flat bread that everyone raves about. The pastas flavor was there and huge portions of pasta. However barely any bacon in the Mac, just on top and not through out sauce. And then the chicken was dry and very small and only on top not through out. The side salads were delicious with pickled onion beets plus normal toppings. Service was good. There was only one worker and she was doing a double. I think she did awesome for how long she had been working. Took my wife here for a bit of an escape from the kids, where we could get a meal and some drinks. As much as I wanted to find something to like about this place, there wasn't really much... Pros: Interesting ambiance Cons: Watered down drink (The Darko) Out of multiple items (The Chubz, zucchini fries, all pasta) Burnt hushpuppies Slow service (Bartender seemed to be the only one running the place) Smoke/weed smell constant from outside I give a second star only because the hushpuppy batter actually tasted good once you got past the burnt taste, and because the bartender proactively asked us when she brought them out to let her know if they were ok or not. What worked... 1. The French dip and fries were good. I enjoyed this. 2. The location is also a plus, especially if you live in West Salem, as there is an indoor seating as well as a large patio outside. 3. There is an interesting quirk to view in the establishment-- a jail cell, which has been converted to a hang out space. It's musty in that room but cool to swing by and see, while you're there. 4. There is original artwork to buy on the walls near the restrooms. These were unique. THE REST 1.The business allows a very large pig to roam the outdoor courtyard, where patrons are eating and drinking. We had to ask the owner of the pig to keep it away from us while we ate ( as it was munching on leaves under our table). I understand this pig frequents the establishment. Albeit cute ,at times,with a wagging tail, it wasn't something I wanted to have near me while eating or out with a friend for a drink. 2. For those of us who are not cigarette smokers, you should be aware that people were actively smoking cigarettes on the patio. It made the patio dining less enjoyable for us. 3. The bartender scheduled that night was unfriendly and gave us the death stare. She turned away from us and walked away,as we inquired about drink options and availability It was odd. That being said, If you're looking for a unique and unexpected experience then this could be a place for you. You may be able to see a large pig roaming happily under tables. Extremely weird experience. We went in, sat down. After 20 minutes no one had even glanced in our direction. A guy came out to the bar from the back then disappeared again. Service was a little slow but they only had two bartenders. It was a super busy night with a band playing. The music was great, the patio was open, the ambiance of the bar is cute and playful. I love all the rabbit decor and names. I didn't get to try the food because the kitchen was so backed up it would have taken over an hour to get anything and I was too hungry to wait. What a great find! While looking late at night for a place to grab a bite to eat, my 2 cousins and I stumbled on the The Rabbit Cellar! Their outside seating lights and white coved area caught our eye! They have craft beers listed on a chalk board inside but we were caught by the designer drink menu! 2 of us had the "Thumper" ( a delicious version of a Lemon Drop) and one tried the "Lola" ( made with Empress Gin, which made it a beautiful purple color). We ordered the veggie flatbread pizza which came with a salad and the zucchini appetizer It was all perfect for what we were after. The staff was amazing. Our Waitress was quick to check on us and was very friendly. Even the chef came by to check on the food we had order! Ate here as a second choice. Served rapidly, great beer on tap. It was a wait to get our food order in as the 2 servers were busy. Once ordered, the wait (for 2 sandwiches) was almost an hour. My Cuban sandwich with ok, the gyro was a bit better. It was loud, to be expected at a small bar, but not intolerable. Been wanting to try for months. Maybe it was an off day. Four cheese pizza very cheesy, but was not hot, so mediocre. Caesar salad looked good, very little dressing ( best part of a Caesar salad in my opinion). When I asked for more dressing, they were out. So a plate full of lettuce and cheese was what I got. They hit the nail on the head for what Salem locals want and need. I've always loved this building for a bar, but previous tenants didn't execute properly. The remodel is a perfect mix between class and dive. They could always go fancier, but Salem is slow to fancy. Awesome job! read more

Food was mediocre at best. I will say that the service is very slow, took 10 min while standing at the bar to close out my tab. Along with this the staff wore very insensitive clothing. Sweatshirts that say "Oregon Infidel" with assault rifles next to the words. This place did not warrant the prices. If you own or work at a restaurant you should do your best to not wear clothing with messages that will offend a good amount of the clientele when you are charging quite a bit for a drink. Many of us go to restaurants, bars etc to escape the barrage of politics...not see apparel that supports either side or the aisle. read more

This is a great spot, my husband and I have been twice and both time the food and service were awesome. We live in West Salem and are always excited to have a new spot for food. The fried zucchini and BBQ chicken pizza are two of our favorite items. We did try the French dip and nachos both were very good as well.
