The host was very nice and cooked for us an amazing three course breakfast each morning. It was like we had a gourmet meal unlike our usual breakfasts when we go out and certainly not like what we eat at home. We really enjoyed the other guests at breakfast and our 5:00 happy hour with a plate of cheeses and crackers with wine was wonderful. Sometimes we spent up to two hours or more just sitting around talking with them. The host even went out of her way to purchase beer for us which made it extra special touch for us. Thank you so much for making our first experience a good one. Highly recommend!

We decided to do a Bed & Breakfast instead of a hotel. We got room 5 which has a clawfoot tub in the bathroom, 2 windows (one with a view to the street, the other with a view to their landscaped area) which had a lot of space. The hosts offer a cocktail hour at 5:00 with a fresh snack and a few drink choices. Breakfast is made fresh daily and varies from day to day. The location is excellent; at the end of a quiet street yet 3 blocks from all the shops in downtown Galena. Very close to a couple tourist attractions. The hosts are very attentive and helpful and have been doing this for many years (yet are selling the place...)

He refused to give me his name, or the owners. I won't even go into what the dispute was about, even though I was taken for $500. Being spoken to like this is totally unacceptable. I have worked with the public for over 40 years and would never think to talk to someone like this. In fact, even the most upset customer hasn't talked to me like this.

For some reason I had thought these cabins where going to be spaced a little further apart, the where relatively close to each other, kind of like a city neighborhood. I don't know where I got that impression, but they never advertised it that way. We stayed in the Grant cabin, it was the smallest log cabin they had and it was perfect for the two of us. It was nice and cozy. The cabin was clean and waiting for us. The owner/operator welcomed us cheerfully and explained the amenities. The cabin comes with a microwave, fridge, Jacuzzi tub, TV, fireplace and firewood. There is a couch and small table and chairs to eat at. They supply you with a cork screw, coffee pot/coffee, wine glasses and tumbler glasses. In the fridge was a delicious loaf of homemade blueberry bread and two bottles of orange juice. On bench that served as a coffee table between the couch and the fire place there was a guest book where people put in their stories and a binder with fliers and menus for local business and restaurants. One of the neatest part was the history of the building, not just how old it was but the impact of various guests. There were pennies and corks wedged into the walls at different places, left by guests as a reminder of their visit. Keep this in mind when you show up so you don't get annoyed like I did that someone jammed a cork someplace and the owner didn't clean. My wife and I left our own mark. I loved the location and the feel and can't wait to go back. I will say that at $228.00 after tax a night is a little pricey, but well worth the ambiance and experience.

Numerous sitting areas, porch, little gazebo; coffee, Keurig, and water always available. We stayed in Room #2, the ?Mary Kay room. There's a cozy reading nook which I utilized. We had a hot 90 degree day but inside there's central air, plus a window unit, a ceiling fan and additional tabletop fan if needed. Needless to say, we were totally comfortable. Our room also had a free-standing tub, which is unique to us. You may not like that part if you're claustrophobic, because you're totally enveloped in its graceful, pretty shower curtain... just an fyi. Definitely added to the charm, though. Also, if you're used to a king bed, like we are, this bed might feel a bit snug. Again, just fyi. The B&B is very conventionally located to town, just a few minutes walk. Make sure you bring your walking legs for the hills though ;) As with the whole area. Breakfasts were filling and delicious. Cookies and candies are always available, too. And again, Todd and Candy were very helpful and accommodating yet not intrusive, so it felt like your own home. Would definitely come back. Thank you!

The largest is called the Master Suite, and the others are named after the original owners daughters. We stayed in the "Eleanor" room, which is the smallest of the rooms. We came on Christmas Day and were the only people there. Rita, the innkeeper, was extremely pleasant, accommodating and helpful. She told us the history of the house, how she became the ninth owner and also helped us find the only restaurant open on Christmas within a 30 mile radius. She then gave us a gift of local wine and a tiny Christmas ornament. So great! Another thing I appreciated about this B&B is when I was looking up places in Galena, I noticed a rather disturbing trend of a lot of places having beautiful buildings, but then were either ridiculously expensive or else inside things got really hokey. Like with in room jacuzzi tubs or everything Super Girly with pink and lace exploding everywhere. Thanks for keeping it simple & elegant, Hellman, we are excited to come back again.

Great views from the front porch of Galena and of course, Horseshoe Mound. The house itself was very fun to explore, with ornate wood trim and built in china cabinets, etc. They don't build them like that anymore!
