    Old fashioned Coney Island hotdogs
    Anthony C.

A classic cruising spot for over 50+ years and still standing. Not as big as I remember them, but the spirit is still there. Gotta get a Coney Isoand dog definitely. The area isn't a place I frequent, but parking is there and they even offer drive-thru service. The music inside is, of course, the golden oldies! If you're craving messing and just down to goodness food, this is it. Don't let the location and look fool you either.

First time in Portland OR , my cousins lived nearby Annie's and supposedly they were good , so me and my bf had to come check it out , there burgers were ok overall ..onion rings were ok as well .

I honestly can't say much about this place other than when my wife and I walked in here I thought we had walked into a Roake's restaurant...which, lo and behold, after some research, it use to be one at some point but changed owners and name. The menu is pretty much a replication of what Roake's current menu offers with small deviations such as combo orders, slight different appetizer items, and some of the cooked items to create an originality feel for Annie's as a stand alone establishment. Other than that, Annie's falls right under the Roake's shadow, in my opinion. From the decor, fresh cut fries, to the extra cost for side dipping bottled condiments other than ketchup and mustard. And now...the real review. So, between my wife and I, we ordered the Annie's Dog combo and Wimpy's medium combo. The price tag ran about $17. The wife really liked the Annie's dog. The Wimpy burger was good. However, like Roake's, not a big fan of the fresh cut fries. Extremely greasy, never crunchy, and they get cold QUICK. Threw most of them away. The service was ok. I believe was the owner that took order. He got the job done but don't expect friendliness. Cut to the chase and bring the order to the table. I get the fact that a lot of people come here for the "Coney" style which personally I'm not a big fan of but for a burger place, it's ok. There's plenty of places to go to for a better price, service, and originality. If you want "Coney" based, come here....or Roake's first.

Deluxe Cheeseburger. Coney fries and waffles fries in background

What can I say, cheap and decent cheeseburgers. Get a double, or else you will still be hungry. The Coney fries were disgusting! But...Waffles fries are a must! .25 for a soda refill?! Seriously?

This is the menu, all looks good

I have driven by the place and I was curious as to what's the menu like and how's the food? Today is the day that I found out. I tried a double cheeseburger combo with a large beverage and I was amazed. I found the burger prepared the way that I wanted it with all the right toppings and sauces and it came that way. The meat was moist and done right. And then there were the fries! Wow! I could not eat all of them! I found the food to be great, but, I had an issue with no lids for the beverages, this might be a problem with to go orders and spillage, but, it may be okay as the restaurant is getting away from plastic straws. It is a small place and looks divey on the outside, but, you will not be let down with the food.

NOT A Chicago style dog by any stretch.

The owners of this place, a man and his son, seem to hate their jobs. There are so many things that could be done to make this place amazing, but it starts with customer service, and these two are rude and do not give a shit. The hot dogs are made of the cheapest, crap pseudo-beef I've ever had. They are like rubber. The coney sauce clearly comes from a can, and even though they advertise a Chicago style hot dog, they are clueless as to what that actually means. I won't go any further because the people who run this place do not care. I'd love to buy this restaurant and take it off their hands, turning it into a REAL Chicago beef and dog shack. But for now, it's about as exciting as visiting the morgue, and it doesn't seem to taste much better.

    Limp soggy not salty fry

The burgers are decent. My boyfriend got the Farmer John and it was tasty. However the Coney sauce was terrible and the fries were white, limp, chalky and unsalted. We threw the fries in the trash.

    Big bite!

I love the Coney dog here. Hamburgers are great too. But that Coney dog is hard to beat in Portland or Gresham.

Right now Captain's Galley is hidden behind a newly arrived red psychedelic-painted Mexican food truck. The food is as delicious as ever. Fried but not greasy, no old oil taste. My usual order is fish, shrimp and clams, chips instead of fries. All made fresh to order. The chips are to die for, fried just right. The breading in the clams, shrimp and fish has just the right amount of seasoning. They are so not greasy that I can eat them all as finger food and wiping my fingers off on a napkin doesn't leave greasy streaks. All are served with a little coleslaw, generous amounts of cocktail sauce, a spicy but not too much so dipping sauce, and the best tarter sauce I ever had in my life. I found something new to make me happy. They have delicious fish tacos! Before trying these I had fast food fish tacos that were more crunchy breading than fish. Captain's Galley brings the fish! Perfectly seasoned fish with toppings in proportion and a nice drizzle of sauce. Now when I go back it's a tough decision as to what to get. If you ever in your life liked New England clam chowder, get yourself on over to Captain's Galley for theirs. I've had New England clam chowder many times in New England and this is so much better! It comes with oyster crackers. This clam chowder is fresh enough that it can survive 2 days in the refrigerator and still be delicious.

Because the temperature is less than 40 degrees, we hurried up with our order, so she can go back & close the windows, where it's warmer. We both ordered 2-3 fish and chowder. It took about 7 mins. maybe more, for our order to be done. I actually was disappointed: there were two or three (for hubby's order) fish sticks, (and they looked burned). I was hoping for some chips but I guess that was EXTRA, and we didn't order that. Total for mine is $10. The tartar sauce was filled with dill. The chowder (be both agreed), was salty! (We've tasted that SAME chowder elsewhere before). The lemon was fresh! (Probably, the only thing plus the dill, that's fresh there). This is the first time I wanted Fish & Chips, and Chowder, and no chips or fries. Totally my fault! I should have read the menu, and I shouldn't feel sorry for someone who is cold, and try to rush my order, when I only have seconds to pick what I wanted. I SHOULD have spend more time reading everything BEFORE I ordered. (I've ordered them so many times, in my life, I was assuming chips or fries came with the order).

This location is also a bit small so not really suitable for big groups. We came on a Friday for lunch and there's only 1 kiosk so it takes a while for big groups to order and I don't think they have a person starting another order if it gets too busy. They were out of a couple of the drinks for the kids menu, which was okay because there were 2 other options. Not once did the staff interact with us or say hello to us. The wait time for the food was ok but the server basically ran and threw the food at our table without ever saying anything to us. I ordered a pork katsu sandwich and the pork was VERY dry. I also ordered it normal but when she threw it on the table, she mumbled something "it's not spicy" and but there was clearly some red powder on it and looked like my friend's sandwich that she ordered spicy. We went up to ask the girl and she said they accidentally put the powder on but it's not spicy and that was it. She didn't apologize or offer to exchange it. I think it's unacceptable behavior and I was in disbelief. They were also out of ketchup and we had a whole table of French fries with the kids meals... I have been to the other location a few times and the food and service was good as far as I can remember, but this location is horrible. I will never come back again and will tell all my friends and family about my experience. 2/9- I emailed the business owner like he requested but never got a reply. Don't need to tell me to reach out if you don't care to email back. Thanks.
