Annie's is always great. Very friendly owner preparing good burgers and excellent fry's. Between "Jim Dandy's" and Annie's, there very similar,but like the fry's better at Annie's. I honestly can't say much about this place other than when my wife and I walked in here I thought we had walked into a Roake's restaurant...which, lo and behold, after some research, it use to be one at some point but changed owners and name. The menu is pretty much a replication of what Roake's current menu offers with small deviations such as combo orders, slight different appetizer items, and some of the cooked items to create an originality feel for Annie's as a stand alone establishment. Other than that, Annie's falls right under the Roake's shadow, in my opinion. From the decor, fresh cut fries, to the extra cost for side dipping bottled condiments other than ketchup and mustard. And now...the real review. So, between my wife and I, we ordered the Annie's Dog combo and Wimpy's medium combo. The price tag ran about $17. The wife really liked the Annie's dog. The Wimpy burger was good. However, like Roake's, not a big fan of the fresh cut fries. Extremely greasy, never crunchy, and they get cold QUICK. Threw most of them away. The service was ok. I believe was the owner that took order. He got the job done but don't expect friendliness. Cut to the chase and bring the order to the table. I get the fact that a lot of people come here for the "Coney" style which personally I'm not a big fan of but for a burger place, it's ok. Annie's does a really nice old-fashioned mom-and-pop sort of burger. Very, very tasty! Among other things on the menu, they offer a Coney dog-the sauce is very hot (not spicy) and delicious. The decor was inherited from a previous owner, and it's pretty tired, but it's the food that counts. It's run by two people, and the service is hit or miss- sometimes they are friendly, but I have left twice without being acknowledged. read more

I have driven by the place and I was curious as to what's the menu like and how's the food? Today is the day that I found out. I tried a double cheeseburger combo with a large beverage and I was amazed. I found the burger prepared the way that I wanted it with all the right toppings and sauces and it came that way. The meat was moist and done right. And then there were the fries! Wow! I could not eat all of them! I found the food to be great, but, I had an issue with no lids for the beverages, this might be a problem with to go orders and spillage, but, it may be okay as the restaurant is getting away from plastic straws. The owners of this place, a man and his son, seem to hate their jobs. There are so many things that could be done to make this place amazing, but it starts with customer service, and these two are rude and do not give a shit. The hot dogs are made of the cheapest, crap pseudo-beef I've ever had. They are like rubber. The coney sauce clearly comes from a can, and even though they advertise a Chicago style hot dog, they are clueless as to what that actually means. I met Cindy (the owner) at my place of work and she become one of my good clients. She told me about her diner and I inquired about its location and decided to come in and try. The food is made to order, so it does take a little bit of a wait, which I didn't mind because Cindy is inherently friendly. Her husband, who took our order, was also very friendly! That and the food comes out hot and fresh! DELICIOUS. I swear that I ate my burger in like 20 seconds. I INHALED IT and my fries so fast that I missed it when it was gone. For some reason, I felt a sense of nostalgia when I was eating the burger like I was transported back to my childhood in California when I always used to eat at authentic diners. The burger is juicy and full of flavor and just the right size. The fries are fresh and hot. You can tell they cut them directly in the kitchen. My husband and I both ordered a "Lil John combo" which entails a burger with added ham, egg and bacon as well as fresh cut fries and a drink. Our total for two combos was about 16 bucks. QUALITY FAST FOOD, made with fresh ingredients and attention to detail. ordered a wimpy cheese with mushroom, it was split in half because it was too big to pick up without giant hands. as I listed in my "burger bite" photo, it took me about 4 bites to get across the center of the burger. it was well-made and neatly organized, with an oversized soft sesame bun and a thin, monster patty. fresh-cut veggies: mushrooms, tomato, lettuce...the onion was super fresh and had some good bite. I haven't had tater tots in a while so I did a substitution on the fries and the tots were great and NOT SALTED which some reviewers complained about but frankly, I think we should ALL be salting our own fries...there were salt shakers everywhere. that way you always get your preferred salt level. they brought my tray out to me which I thought was nice. prices super reasonable. the young man that was helping me was having some trouble with the register before he was unceremoniously brushed aside without a word (by his Dad, I can only assume, who completed the transaction.) Basic "Hot Rod" / Corvette Diner / In And Out throwback decor with black and white checkerboard wall tiles. a few ants were competing for scraps at the trash can but otherwise place was pretty clean. I got the delux burger combo $6.75 I think First thing I noticed walking in is that the place could definitely use some redoing with electrical fixurning which completely killed the atmosphere they're attempting to create. Place was clean but looked messy. Service was bland. Guy took my order while he was on phone, no greeting no thank you. Meal came within 5 minutes Food was okay maybe worth $4.15. Came with drink but only drink available was water or lemonade because only soda water was coming out of the fountains. Trust the bad reviews, this place was awful. I gave it the benefit of the doubt from the few good reviews but wish we hadn't wasted our time (and money!) We should've known as soon as we walked in & it smelled awful. First we were given our shake which tasted like a cheap ice cream sandwich aka: fake freezer burnt ice cream. Then the rest of our food came and was mostly inedible. Both my husband & I took one bite of French fry & looked at each other with disgust. Cold, greasy, limp & stale. Our large basket of fries went completely uneaten. My kids' hot dogs were pale & literally had plastic on the ends from the sausage wrapper. My burger bun was dry & hard, the burger itself tasted awful. I took two bites & couldn't stomach any more. My husband choked down most of his, despite the brown grease & juices from the mushrooms that turned most of his burger bun brown. What a mixed bag of reviews! Clearly, you either love it or you hate it. I have been going here on an off for nearly 20 years and nothing has changed. It's my favorite cheap burger spot in town. I can easily feed my family of 3 for under $20. We often end up spending more on taco bell... I saw one reviewer state their full basket meal was worth $4.15. Do you live in a different economy than the rest of us? Not sure what people expect. The primary complaint seems to be customer service. To my knowledge, the same man has owned the place for the entire time I've patronized it. He has always been friendly and efficient. This isn't a sit down table service establishment after all. They do bring your food out to you though, which is nice. His son has been working there for the past few years and I have always enjoyed our interactions. I am also not so wrapped up in being the customer that I failed to notice the young man is cognitively challenged and likely works hard every day to interact with the public when he has what appears to me to be aspergers. He didn't want to look you in the eyes, really. He's perfectly good at performing the duties of his job. I have seen him shrink away from rude or demanding people and it was not his lack of customer service I took note of. Every once in a while he'll share an odd joke or story with us and I really appreciate it. He's got a great sense of humor and is a big wrestling fan in case you want to try and engage him in an actual conversation. The burgers are actually pretty great. I think he may use tarragon as a seasoning so they are a little unusual. I tend to prefer the thinner patty and like that they use diced onions. The meat to stuff balance on the classic cheese burger it perfect for me. The hand cut fries are good. Like others said, a lot like in n' out. We get individual burgers and a big basket of fries cause a large is plenty for everyone. The place is a bit run down, sure. It's kitschy and nostalgic and that is the appeal. It's part of a dying breed. It's crazy to me how many folks want to pay $4.15 for a meal and go on to suggest that they should invest in renovations. Gordon Ramsey has gone to y'alls heads. Toss up between 2 and 3 stars. We are still trying hard to support local rather than the chains. I ordered the double burger, add bacon, to go. I live close by so the burger was still hot enough when I got home. And I ate a good burger exactly how I was expecting it to taste. Zero food complaints. However, the front of house is disgustingly filthy. Had I noticed that before I ordered, I would have left to go elsewhere. It they clearly have made no attempts to clean anything in a long time. As well as cosmetic repairs. The guy taking orders spends his free time messing with his phone. The ice cream machine has dirty streaks running down the front. We were long time customers of Annie's on stark street. We were very disappointed in the place last time we were there.They had a sign posted on the front window saying no tomatoes.I could understand that if they just ran out,but the owners son at they register told me they went up in price so there not serving them. I asked the young man what happens when they raise the price of beef,or wheat what the buns are made of,are you not going to serve them? He just ignored us and walked away,and started filling the ice for the soft drinks. I ordered a Coney from this same guy once before I ordered it with Coney sauce only ,no onion,no mustard,he wanted to charge me extra for Coney sauce Until I explained a Coney Island comes with Coney sauce so he dropped the extra charge,This young man needs training in how to handle customers,or there won't be any customers left. This place is great. I've been going there for several years. It's not meant to be fancy. It's meant to be greasy and salty and taste good in an old fashioned way. Their fries are hand cut and fried fresh, although lately I've been getting tater-tots and pretending like I'm back in school. The burgers are great but my best advice is to order a wimpy burger. It's a single half pound patty on a huge bun. Even adding bacon and cheese the thing costs right around $5. And the patty isn't frozen, it's clearly hand formed. My goddaughter loves the coneys. She's a teenager and doesn't even get self conscious about getting it all over her face. And they have great chocolate malts. Perfect for dunking your fries. Topped of with yummy coney sauce. Mmm! So good! I should've honestly just order an additional coney dog instead of fries. So, the fries is what's killing the rating here. There was a very weird, distinct taste to them that I couldn't put my finger on. Either the fries were freezer burned, or they're using extremely old grease to make them. Either way, they were crisp, no salt, with a slight ashtray aftertaste. Not kidding! It was as if someone was smoking and decided to flick their ashes in the grease.
