I've been on the hunt for the best banh mi in Portland and Bon Banh Mi is placed very high on the list! I had never heard of it before I saw it on maps while I was running errands. It is a cute small shop. There are some desserts and snacks on display, and I noticed the fresh sugar cane, too! I ordered the #1 special and had it in my hand within 5 minutes. I was charged a 3.5% fee for using credit card! I am so pleased with how great it was. I love when banh mi has equal amounts of pate and butter -- not a lot of places give you a taste of both! They loaded up the banh mi with tons of filling (warning for cilantro haters, they laid it on heavily). I did note there was no jalapeño in it though. The bread was perfect and so fluffy. So happy this came to the neighborhood! I was finally able to try it tonight, got my regular order: BBQ Pork bahn mi, no mayo. I ordered using the kiosk, but others were ordering at the counter. Both seemed like a great options. The sandwich was delicious! The pork was cut quite thinly and it ended up being a really full delicious bahn mi. Saw someone show this place on tiktok so I had to go. First impression was that the prices are more than fair they are great! Had the special Bahn mi and it was wonderful! Fresh in house baked bread every day had that super crunch and pillow inside. Full of fresh meats and vegetables. I also got the egg rolls for 1 dollar each!! I mean come on 3 for a dollar? Yes please and they were great. I didn't try it but it's the only place I've seen that has fresh squeezed sugar cane juice!!! I got also a Taro bubble tea for 5 bucks! I'd been waiting for this place to open ever since they put the sign up. I was a bit skeptical when I saw all the overwhelmingly positive reviews on Google as new restaurants often give incentives for 5-star reviews. But the moment I took my first bite of their #1 banh mi, I knew the hype was real. We only ordered one to try it in case it was not good. A few days later, we went back to order five (buy 5 get 1 free). The bread was warm, fresh, and crispy, and they're incredibly generous with their meat and veggies. Not only do their banh mi's taste better than other spots like Lee's or Best Baguette, but their prices are also more competitive, even better with the buy 5 get 1 free deal. I won't be going back to Lee's or Best Baguette unless I'm desperate. They also have punch cards if you don't want to buy five at once. The only downside is they charge a 3.5% fee for using cards. I hope they consider waiving it for larger orders. Parking is small but you can park nearby and walk over. read more

After driving by a few times, I finally got to try this place out (and eating it as I type this) They're super nice! I was able to add avocado to my banh mi and they were super generous with it. Their bread? A+ and you can tell it's def baked on the premises. Mine was still warm, had a nice crunch, and one of the tastier baguettes I've had in town. The tofu? Rad!! It's cubed as opposed to shredded tofu and they do a great job of making it tasty and not taste like just a "cube of tofu" If you get it to go, don't forget to check your bag! This is a great banh mi place in my opinion! It's not a Viet restaurant selling cheap imitation sandwiches with poor substitutions -- think pizza sharp salads -- it has a great variety of fillings, the staff seems super nice, the prices are very fair, and if you get enough for that free one, you're just making money at that point. I've had their meatball/xiu mai, the dad biet, tofu, and roast pork/thit quay, and they're all good. This is reminiscent to what the old shops were like 30 years ago where it wasn't trying to be fancy, sandwiches were their main seller, and can't ever forget that free one. read more

My favorite of all times, and keep on coming back, is the "Banh Hoi Thit Quay" - "Roast Pork with Vermicelli Rice Noodles" where you can eat it out of a bowl; however, I prefer the wrap. Of course, there's banh mi and I can never leave without ordering at least 1"Banh Mi Thit Dac Biet" -- "Vietnamese Sandwich Deluxe"!!! The banh mi is larger than others and lots of meat!! Today, I'm trying out the "Bun Thit Nuong" which is grilled pork with rice noodles and I loved it. Lots of lemongrass and plenty of protein. Each portion is perfect for 1 person, not too much but not too little either and best of all... it's totally affordable and everything is made fresh there; can't you believe that? The food is ok. The bread is so fresh and the food was warm when delivered. I ordered the egg rolls that didn't have shrimp but got the ones with shrimp. The pork vermicelli bowl the meat was seasoned with five spice and a bit fatty and the sauce to put on the vermicelli was the sweet chili sauce. The crispy pork bowl was also seasoned with the five spice. The only sauces we got was the sweet chili sauce the portions were big but too much five spice. The bread and the egg rolls very good and the prices were good. I will go back to get the egg rolls and to buy the fresh bread and next time I want to try the drinks and dessert. The bahn mi were fine. Everything youʻd expect. The bread was a little too crispy on the outside so when youʻd take a bite, it exploded. Luckily, it was soft on the inside and before you knew it, the whole thing was in my belly. Sadly, they got rid of their avocado shakes so I settled for a very sweet taro with boba. Their banh mi was not crunchy. Don't order their banh hoi thit heo quay, and bun thit nuong. Their banh hoi only had 3 or 4 pieces of cucumbers, no lettuce. Their banh hoi did not stick together. It looked like bun. Also, their fish sauce was mixed with powdered not a straight liquid. Their heo quay did not taste good either.
