I love a good sandwich. I usually prefer sourdough bread to a sub roll. I have to say I loved the bread here! It was soft and pillowy, and very fresh. There was plenty of meat & cheese and all the veggies added to the Italian rounded it out. The very berry turkey was very tasty as well. It looks a little thin in the picture as we omitted the lettuce on that one. The service was very good as well. I liked that the person taking the order read all the ingredients in each sandwich to make sure we wanted all of them. The sandwiches were brought to our table. The shop was bright and clean. I had the original club to go and when I opened that baby up I knew I was in for a treat, the fresh homemade bread is the best sub bread I've ever had crusty and like a pillow. If you're here because you are contemplating order on a delivery app.... Don't do it! Drive to the store and order it there. Prices are about $3 higher to offset the greed of these delivery services. Go straight to the small business and support them dollar for dollar. We were choosing between our favorite Jersey Mike's or trying something new with Big Town Hero. I am so glad we took a chance on Big Town Hero instead. The sandwiches are THICK, you can taste every singular ingredient and it's a great value. It's not mushy even after having it delivered. We were not that impressed with the Mac salad though as it tasted a bit like something I'd get from Walmart in the big tubs but the sandwiches are a win! I used to work for BTH in downtown Portland at their 3 locations.Was feeling reminiscent and stopped at this location in Gresham today.Was craving that Turkey. My only issue is that there was a man who worked their who was speaking top volume. The Spanish part didn't bug me but the volume and what he was saying did.I listened to him complain and speak Ill of another employee. Atmosphere means something to me especially when I'm out eating. I have been going to big town hero since my early teens and I am sad to see so few of them left here in the Portland Metro. Too many of the big giant chains have taken over with poor quality and little value. The bread here is freshly made every morning by hand, it's soft, fluffy and light. The meats are real and not dyed variations of Turkey like you get at Subway. The customer service is friendly and neighborly not contrived, forced, or fake. The very berry Turkey is my go to as idk anyone else that offers it. Highly recommend this place over other chains for that classic yet fresh deli experience. read more

An underrated gem of a sandwich shop. I do delivery driving and have popped into this chain a handful of times, finally decided to try it for myself. What a sandwich! Im a big guy 6'5" and 300 lbs, so I usually have to order a large portion to fill up. Today I tried a #25 Classic Club on cheese bread (because what better to judge a store on than a "classic"?). I ordered the Large size (14.50 as of 10/2/2022) and paid 3.50 to make it a meal, which included a medium fountain drink and the option of chips, potato salad or macaroni salad. All I can say is: Wow... first impressions are important and Big Town Hero just knocked this one out of the park. Maybe the first impression you get of a meal is the visual presentation. This is one of very few "fast" meals I've ever had where the product delivered to the table looked as good if not better than the advertising/menu board. Also, the balance of vegetables to proteins was spot on and the dressings were detectable in reasonable amounts without being overpowering. One other thing I was impressed by is that the slices of cheese are appropriately thick (in my opinion many food vendors have shrunk their product: ie cheese is cut so paper thin that it barely crosses the palate when eaten, not so here good folks!). If I could find something to nitpick about, maybe we would mention that the bread was a surprise (but not in a bad way, just unexpected). The bread here is like biting into a cloud. Very light and fluffy. I'd rate Subway's bread as a 50/50, kinda middle of the road between fluffiness and chewy.... And Jimmy John's like about 30/70 less fluffy and more chewy, then Big Town Hero's bread is like 80/20....very fluffy and very little chew to it, but that's not to say it isn't wonderful, just a surprise! In summary: good sandwich, very generous portions, a little pricey but also extremely good quality, I'll be back to try more in the future. read more

I wish yelp did half stars... i mean, its the 21st century... or something, we have to branch out. I give this company as a whole a 3.5, they have many things i like.. fresh baked bread, shreaded lettuce on the slicer, good veggies. Also has some down points, generic meat, processed to death, and cheese that is the bottom shelf. I feel this place in a small town, or next to a place you work will do well, but in portland with sooo many options, i almost never pick this unless i have a coupon or a deal. Really unless you go vegan, no sauces, or dressing its not healthy. If you eant a over the top sub where it tastes good, expect a ton of cheap fillers and oils. I know its a subway competitor and it wins that, but against the better two chains in the area, it just doesmt cut the mustard. read more

I use to love this place so it's sad that this had to happen. I went in and orders a sandwich. when I got it i took the first bite and there was 3 long hairs in it. i tried to pull then out but it was wrapped around in it so much I couldn't . we took it back and told them. The person working tried to say it was possibly my own hair. I have short hair and there is absolutely no way it's mine. so I gave them the sandwich back and said "look for your self if u dotn believe it." A cashier using the same disposable safety gloves on to handle cash and cashier, but she did use the same gloves to make sandwiches. The meat scale was not wiped down after each meats used (so many cross containment). The rag she wiped down on counters and left the rag on the counter, not placing in satiation bucket. Using same rag to clean knives. That cashier needs a lot of training!!! I would not go there to make myself sick after watching her so many things do wrong. read more

Yesterday June 5,2019 was my first visit to Big Town Hero and my last!!!!! I've heard a lot of good things from a friend of mine, But looking at the most recent reviews I would have to say " things have changed " The service, food and portions were horrible!!! We ordered three salads and they were all less than half in the container they came in. The dressing was less than half of the container it came in. I noticed one of them was short and was able to get it filled. The young man making the food said "the dressing was stuck so it was hard to get out." I had also ordered a pastrami panini, The sauerkraut was rubbery and it was a horrible sandwich (those words from my mom) We were also the first ones there to put in our order. Another person came in behind us and her food was delivered to her and done before our order. There was one young lady at the cash register and one young man making food. It took more the 30 minutes to get our combined two orders. They're only getting one star from me because I can't give them zero which is what I'd like to give them!! BIG FAT 0...... Update June,2019 I called and spoke with "Shannon and quote the manager. She thanked me for the information and was genuinely apologetic. She is going to forward the information to the general manager to get the issue resolved quickly. My hope is that things get turned around and I can become a Big Town Hero customer going forward. I hate leaving reviews like this because it makes me feel bad. I'm glad that Shannon was understanding and this will be used as a learning tool as opposed to just negative press!!! I've really tried to be understanding with the lack of management at this location. But tonight I finally voiced my concerns and the answers I got were upsetting. I asked them why they lock their back door during business hours and the answer I got was for "safety reasons" they said there was a big homeless problem and they were worried about the safety of their employees. The problem with this answer is that they are locking customers out where the parking lot is. I suggested that they put a sign up that says bathroom is for customers only and then have a key to check out. Honestly I think the best approach would be to install a camera facing the backdoor and put a chime on the door to hear when people are entering. It's is truly offensive and discriminatory to say they lock the door because of safety concerns with the homeless. My other HUGE problem with this location is they NEVER have white bread. I try to order several sandwiches and always are unable to complete the order correctly because they run out of bread. This location closes early at random so be careful showing up anytime close to closing. This has become a pattern at this location, they make excuses for it saying this isn't common, however I've been coming here once a month for a few years and it's just getting worse and more common. Now that the back door is being locked, for "safety reasons" I doubt I'll be back. read more

The worst sandwich I have ever had! Completely overstuffed to the point it falls apart in your hands and you can't take a full bite. I have ordered this same sandwich from other sandwich shops and have never had this issue. It was and absolute mess and I had to take it apart and only eat the meat because you could not bite into it like a normal sandwich. I will never order from this restaurant again. Last night I was beat and famished after work. Earlier in the week, I had noticed this Big Town Hero just a block from the MAX train and thought this it was good to know about for the future. It turned out the future presented itself right there after work last night. I have eaten at Big Town Hero outlets over the years and never had a bad sandwich, so the trust factor was already in play. This particular outlet was neat and clean, and two young cheerful and friendly ladies presided. I ordered a turkey bacon ranch panini to go. They worked their magic and voila one panini (with artichoke hearts even) to go was in my hands. Of course, I rode the train, but there is plenty of parking right out front. There are four or five tables with comfy chairs. The sidewalk outside is very large and great for outdoor seating in fairer weather (and spring is just three weeks away). Everything is flat here, no stairs, so entrances and exits are smooth for those who need them that way. I did not use the restroom. I thought $6.70 was entirely reasonable for the sandwich. I managed to wait until I got home to eat. Guess what? I turned into a better version of myself because of my delicious sandwich. So come on in and find out what Big Town Hero can do for you. If you love the smell of freshly baked bread you will love Big Town. This is probably one of the nicest and cleanest Big Town heros I know in the area . Always great service, food is fresh and the place is really clean, including the bathroom. Even though it is a sandwich shop, I LOVE the Chef salad with greek dressing. My little ones enjoy the kids meal that includes a fresh made mini sub, chips, milk and oreo cookies for 4.95. They also have great soups and paninis. The prices aren't expensive, and sometimes they have specials, like the 8' sub for only $5. Much better than Subway anyday!!! read more

We love Big Town Hero in general, but unfortunately not this location. This location is almost always out of something (bread, meat, a veggie), it always takes a while to get your food even when there's hardly anyone there, and there's always new people working. We've been coming here for about 4 years, and the first couple years were great for a quick lunch, but I'd say the last 18 months or so have really gone downhill. For some reason our sandwiches are just not as good as they used to be. Not sure if something is going on with the management here or what, but it could really use some attention. read more

I had a problem through Uber eats with my order and don't know how to undo the review that I gave it...They put something on my sandwich that I was allergic to and it was the incorrect order...However once I spoke with someone that worked at the store he listened was compassionate with everything that is going on with Quarantine and being sick and paying $15 for sandwich...He went above and beyond to remake it to make it up to me their food is delicious and this is exactly the kind of heart felt company that I want to continue to support. I wish I could change my Uber review but at least I can leave this one on yelp! Just a tiny bit better than subway. Time and time again, I am disappointed at the quality of food they have in Oregon. I can't believe people in this state think these places are good. Restaurants like this wouldn't last a few months in Los Angeles. First of all, the service was terrible. The black girl working there just did not care and I could she wanted to go home. On the way home from a New Years Day snowshoeing trip my husband and I were very hungry and weren't really in the mood to waste calories on fast food since we'd just hiked 3+ miles in the snow. I was craving a sandwich...though there really isn't a time when I'm not :) I've just recently started yelping and my friend Sabrina usuing this thing all.the.time to find places to eat so I thought I would too! In leui of getting carsick (I get REALLY car sick) I decided to just look up Big Town Hero's instead of just sandwiches...since I already knew they exsisted. Low and behold there is one in Gresham just a few miles of the path our GPS was taking us on to get home!! We called the number on Yelp just to make sure it was open since it was New Years Day and there seemed to be a number of BTH's on Yelp that had no reviews or said they had moved. We really weren't in the mood to drive around...seeing as we were pretty hungry. We were very happy with this location. It was clean inside, the people friendly, and the sandwiches yummy! I had my standard sandwich but the hubby tried a grilled panni - he wanted something hot seeing as we were still a LITTLE cold from the 20 degree snowshoeing weather! Best part about this! The sandwiches are good, but recently the service there has been horrible. Not only are they dressed unprofessional, but they have horrible customer service. They are rude and short with conversation. Today my fiance went in to get a sandwich and they told him at 3:45pm that they werent taking anymore orders since they close at 4. They also told the people in there the same thing when they got there at 3:30pm. They stood there and ordered still. 15 minutes of the workers standing around the other customers asked for a refund and everyone left. It was the first time we tried Big Town Hero, we moved here recently and were looking for a good sandwich spot. I ordered the salad sub tonight (06/06/21) and my order was wrong :( items that weren't supposed to be on my sandwich were on there, and items that were supposed to be on it were missing. Just had the worst experience for dinner. It was only 6pm with four patrons in front of us and it took 30 min just to place an order. They were out of 4 of 6 bread options (bowl, onion, garlic, panini) (at 6pm!) and out of ice. The place looked dirty and it took another 15 min just to make the food with no one else in line or calling. We get back and they screwed up the one mini sandwich my friend ordered and forgot a salad in mine.
