    Lovely, isn't it?
    Kiyah D.

I'll try to keep this incredibly long ordeal concise. I had my car towed by this company to their shop (since aparently they're a towing company and repair shop in one) on a SUNDAY night. MONDAY morning I was told my car would be done at 3pm. By 4:30 I called and I was told "so sorry, we ordered the wrong part" I was told it'd be done by TUESDAY at 11am. 2:30PM TUESDAY I was told they fixed the main problem but then engine light was still on. At this point I had had enough and since the main undrivable issue was "fixed" I decided to pick up my car....this is when it get's interesting. Have you ever looked up 2600 28th St NE on google maps? DO IT! The place doesnt even have a sign on it! It's in one of the WORST areas in DC and I've lived here for 3 years. The cab driver that took me there was literally hesitant to let me get out. But I see my poor beetle sitting there (with the front license place dangling off...HOW THAT HAPPENED I have no idea!) I walked through a boarded up building to a woman who told me CASH ONLY, and that I had to WALK TO THE NEAREST LIQUOR STORE TO AN ATM. A 20-something girl coming from work, walking to a liquor store for an ATM in the hood....AWESOME. I was in tears but made it to the sketchy store and back. the total was $214...I gave her $220....SHE HAD NOT CHANGE. I didn't care and just left. Ten minutes down the road.....my car shut off. Ladies if for some GOD AWFUL reason you HAVE to go here, NEVER GO ALONE! Otherwise, everyone....AVOID THIS $#!THOLE AT ALL COSTS!!!

Lloyd arrived 15 or 20 minutes after I called--well in advance of the predicted one-hour wait time. And he was SOOO friendly and helpful--a lovely person. He also got my tyre changed in no time. I'm so thrilled! This was my second excellent experience with Always. Less than a year ago, my car wouldn't start and it turned out to need a new battery. That time, too, Always came promptly and sent a friendly, competent mechanic. Always is simply the best--ALWAYS call them if your car breaks down!

I'm not sure why someone would have such an attitude at 9 AM when they're supposed to be providing customer service. When Jose arrived to pick up my vehicle, he called to say he was outside and then immediately hung up. From the moment he got there, he was rude and unprofessional. He started asking pointless questions about my flat tire and even said the tire didn't look flat to him. I'm not sure why a tow truck driver thinks he's a mechanic, but that wasn't helpful at all. To make matters worse, he asked where the keys were while they were literally in his hand. The entire interaction was frustrating. GEICO set me up with this alleged "company", but the whole experience was mind blowing from start to finish. Based on the rude behavior and poor customer service, I definitely would not recommend using Always Towing and Recovery.

As the crow flies, Recovery's yard is about a half mile from my home where my car was scheduled to be picked up to take to the shop. My experience with dispatch was pleasant enough. As I was at work at the time and not with the car was to be picked up, I explained to the dispatcher the car was in a parking lot behind the building of the given street address. He said his driver, Curtis, would call to get the details. Curtis called me to let me know he was en route to the vehicle's location. I explained to him the location of the car and offered to text a screenshot from google maps, showing the street names and labeling the location of the parking lot entrance and vehicle's exact location. I sent that screenshot and reiterated exactly where the car was and how to get there. What followed much later, well after I thought the car would have been picked up, were several calls from Curtis saying he couldn't find the car/the car wasn't there/he can't read maps/he doesn't do tow jobs in D.C./he can't find the key/he can't open the armrest where the key is/the car won't start. Ultimately, the car and key were exactly where I said they were and the car started without trouble. I don't understand why Recovery 1, a firm that boasts all over its website about how it serves D.C. specifically, would send a driver who tells customers he doesn't do tow jobs in D.C. Moreover, I don't know why they'd send a driver who can't read a map and also can't relay a cross street location to me over the phone to try to direct them to where the car is located. Again, Recovery's yard is less than a 10 minute walk from where the car was being picked up. It was extra concerning that he needed directions how to push a button to open an armrest compartment and that he had to put the key fob into the ignition to start the vehicle. Finally, with all the problems D.C. has with car thefts and carjackings, the last thing your driver should be telling your customer is they're at the location of the car and it's not there. Aside from not dropping the car off the back of the truck, Recovery 1 failed to meet the most basic expectations for professional service I had.

They changed it for a very reasonable price. I didn't get talked down to. I was sure I'd have to take several hours off of work and I didn't. Incredible. Compare this to the last time I got tires when I was in New Jersey where I had to go two days in a row and waste 2+ hours each time on a weekday because they didn't have my size tires in stock. And I paid a lot more for them and didn't have the option to get used tires, either. Compared to that, this has been a breeze.

Immediately after the new tire was installed, it began making a pronounced thumping noise. I called early the next morning to explain what had happened and told them I would be bringing the car back later that day. They asked for my phone number to confirm that I had been in the shop. I drove just over a mile back to the shop at no more than 20-25 mph, and the noise remained severe and noticeably worsened over that short distance. By the time I arrived, there was also a loud clanking noise coming from the new wheel when braking. I arrived around 4:00 p.m. and, because the noise had become a serious safety concern, called again as soon as I entered the line. I was told to simply wait and that they would take care of me. There were several cars ahead of me and no parking area to wait in, so I remained in a line extending into the road. Once I finally got into the shop, I waited over 90 minutes with very little communication other than somebody telling me to shut off my engine. I had to explain the situation to three separate employees, none of whom seemed to have the information I had already provided by phone. The woman I had spoken with earlier didn't come out to acknowledge our conversation until after the car had already been worked on, and then said she hadn't known I was there, despite my having called and been told to wait when I arrived. I specifically requested that they inspect the wheel, studs, and brake components for damage, rather than simply retightening the lug nuts. I was also specifically told that, once the tire work was complete, I should pull the car forward so that a second employee could perform a visual inspection for damage. That's not what happened. I personally watched the first technician remove and retighten the lug nuts, but I did not see him perform the requested damage inspection. When I pulled the car forward as instructed, the second employee did not perform the visual inspection I had been told would happen. Instead, he simply asked the first technician whether everything was okay. The first technician gave a thumbs-up, and they sent me on my way. The actual problem was eventually confirmed: the wheel had been installed loose. Multiple employees also initially asked where I had gotten the work done before addressing the actual problem, even though the tire had been installed at their shop the previous day. The car was eventually fixed, but the overall experience was extremely concerning. A wheel installed by this shop was loose enough to cause severe thumping and eventually clanking while braking, and the problem became significantly worse within roughly a mile. I returned specifically because I was concerned the vehicle was unsafe, yet I waited more than 90 minutes, repeatedly explained the same issue, and was told that a second employee would independently inspect the area for damage when that inspection did not actually happen. I'd think very carefully before trusting this shop with tire or wheel work.

I called Nationwide Insurance which then connected me to WTF Towing. After 2 hours I received a call from their dispatch informing me that they have a time for my pick up. This would be a really long wait if I wasn't already in my office when the car decided to break down. Waiting 2 hours in the office is really different than waiting 2 hours outside in the cold. Closer to my pick up time , the driver called and mentioned he's running late due to rush hour. When he finally arrived an hour after the call , the driver hooked up my car pretty fast and we were out of street and on our way to MD within 15 minutes. Here's where I think they can improve their service. The driver had asked to follow us (a friend gave me a ride) to MD since he doesn't know the way. Which is really weird , who doesn't have a GPS nowadays ? Especially someone who makes a living driving from one place to another. The driver was rather reckless on the road , I saw him cutting cars off while we were on the way and also ran over a red lights. I guess if you are driving a giant flatbed tow truck you can do whatever you want ? We finally lost the tow truck driver since he was speeding and passing cars way faster than us ( apparently he decided to stop following us ) . Two days after the towing , the tow truck driver called me at 9PM ( yes , they apparently call people at night ) asking for a reference number to my case which I informed him it was my phone number. He ended calling me back a few times stating that it wasn't right . I got annoyed and stop answering the phone calls since I was trying to have dinner. It's just not professional to call a customer at 9 PM especially for something that can wait till tomorrow.

I tried another mechanic for my Honda Civic, but it just wasn't the service I wanted or expected. So, fast forward to an issue with my window. Long story short, I had it replaced by a certain well-known company, and three months later it wouldn't roll all the way up. They came back out to honor the lifetime warranty only to tell me it was the regulator. IMO they/he was responsible for breaking the regulator, as there was no problem with the window until it was replaced. There was definitely a nexus. But I digress. Instead of having to search for another mechanic in Baltimore, I just returned to what I already knew was good--Auto Tech. Todd and family are very personable and make you feel like you're at home. They're not trying to cheat you out of your hard-earned money by making up things that need to be repaired. If there's an issue, they'll lay out your options and let you choose which route you'd like to take. Again, I'm in Baltimore. But that's not a problem, as their waiting area is superb. You'll find the Wi-Fi code right there where you can see it. At one point Todd came out and said I could change the channel if I wanted to. They've got a nice coffee machine, snacks, and leather chairs that are as comfortable as the ones I have at home. My AC was also running warm so they checked that and topped it off. I also had them check my brakes. And they quickly repaired my window. The price was very reasonable. So, I'll just have to keep coming back to Bowie to have my Honda Civic serviced. No problem.
