No one does location better than Anthem (aka "ambiance"). On Pacific, I love sitting by the window and looking out at the Glass Museum, at Point Ruston I love looking out at the water and in Old Town I like stopping in before or after a walk on Ruston Way. My favorite Anthem drink was always a WakeUp Call. Essentially a cortado over ice, when sweetened with lavender syrup it was my platonic ideal of a cold coffee drink. Sadly, however, they took it off their menu a while back and, even though I can still order it off-menu, not every barista can give it the old wakeup call magic. So, given that it's winter, I recently got a regular old cortado. It was okay but the espresso had a bitter aftertaste I've only ever tasted with a cup of drip coffee, so I'm not sure what happened there. Either way, I'll still be back. It's a mainstay. read more

Haven't been to this spot in years. Went inside in a great mood enjoying the gorgeous sunny day. Barely anyone in here. Two other customers who already had their drinks. Not closing for another couple hours. No excuses for the rude bitch of a barista. I've been a barista and I am around the same age as this girl and was shocked by her nasty attitude and coldness that she did on purpose to seem "aloof", or she was unhappy by me not ordering in a perfect robotic way to limit the time she has to interact with another human. Girl you think I don't know what you were doing? I've worked customer service and have given customers that same treatment, but it was when it was a rude customer or someone who came in at close or held up the line. Not someone who made a mistake and didn't see the sugar free option on the list of syrups and then accidentally didn't hear you when you said you can only do iced in 16 oz. Are you just a rude person for no reason? Does someone approaching the counter quiet and calm and with a smile saying "hey how's it going" really warrant such condescension? Grow up hunny. Don't work in customer service if it is so hard for you to take an iced latte order without a side of cold rudeness. The world is hard enough without nasty people like you literally ruining society,community and common fucking decency. Welp updating this review because the same girl had to be rude to me twice. Yelp showed you were open another 30 mins. Instead of maybe giving me a 5-10 minute warning she waits until there is less than a minute before close looks at me from the counter and says rudely ma'am we close in less than a minute with a bitchy look on her face and again looking at me like I'm an idiot.. Seriously what horrible service. Bummer this is an incredible location for a coffee spot. Maybe hire some normal functioning adult people. read more

She came back with a mango smoothie and when I said no I had the strawberry protein smoothie. She sassed me no don't you remember I told you we are all out of it. And walked away. I never ordered it. I've been to several Anthem locations so when the coffee shop I wanted to go to was jam packed I knew that Anthem would be a good alternative. I went in on a Sunday morning and the place was basically dead...looks like everyone else was in the other shop down the street! Like all the other Anthems I've been to the store was clean and had the same design style. Service wasn't very friendly, and it was obvious that the barista was having one of "those days." I'm human, too, so I know how it is, no worries. I opted to get a mango reviver and received watermelon. *sigh* it took long enough already that I decided to just go with it. Overall this is the worst Anthem location I've been to and now I'm extremely curious about the that other coffee shop down the street - there's got to be a reason they're full to the brim while Anthem is dead. read more

Only one employee working. Employee was phenomenal and handled the situation very well. Line was 10 customers deep. A few left angry without ordering. Joe app helped me skip ahead of a few customers, but still took 20+ minutes to get my order. Manager should be fired for such poor scheduling. read more

I've been to a couple Anthem Coffee Shops in the Tacoma area but this was a location I haven't been to yet. Like the previous two locations I have been to in the Stadium District and in University Place. Like my other customer experiences my experience at the Old Town location was solid and enjoyable. The service was very friendly and they got my iced coffee to me any a very prompt manner. If memory serves I believe that there was a different coffee shop here prior to Anthem coming here. I more or less had okay experiences at that one two but had minor issues with the food and drinks there. I did not notice any such thing now that Anthem is in this space! read more

This is my first time attending the coffee shop and it is truly the best in the area. If you are a student you get 10% off, so just show them your ID and you are good to go. I got an oat milk latte which was delicious and only $3 for an 8oz significantly cheaper than the Starbucks across the road, and a chocolate croissant for $2, which was individually wrapped for an easy toss in the backpack. My classmate got a breakfast burrito which was toasted he said was very filling. I will definitely be returning! Very disappointed. I come to this location specifically for their customers service. Normally it is such a great experience. No lines and not overly packed. But not today. June 30th 2022. The two young ladies working this shift would rather gossip about other shifts then make a simple coffee. I drink a lite ice 24 oz white chocolate mocha. The drink I got today is completely disgusting. Not stored in at all! & has large espresso grounds floating around. Staff were not friendly. They did not make eye contact or even acknowledge my presence until I was standing at the register for over 4 minutes. Finally, one of the girls came over and just casually says "Hi" and asked me what she could get me. I ordered a shot of coffee over ice cream, an Affogato, which is not on many menus so that's why I come here, but I will not be returning to this location again. I felt totally invisible and I was actually in a hurry to get to an appointment, I was going to spend 10-15 minutes here waiting, but it took 10 minutes to get my order, so I ended up spending 5 minutes after I got my order then leaving. My wife and i thoroughly enjoy Anthem. Currently our favorite location is Old town. The main reason is because the parking is a little messy in stadium. Once that gets fixed we will be visiting both. The coffee is always good, the staff is always friendly, and the app (joe app) is awesome. One of the coolest things that has happened is that at one point my wife requested one of their drinks to be added to the app. The next time we ordered it was there. This was such a cute coffee shop that my friend liked to go to when he was in nursing school. I had work at 5pm in Tacoma but everyone said traffic is horrible and suggested I leave from Seattle around noon. I got there with no traffic and had a few hours to sit on a high table next to a large window facing a park with a delicious caramel white mocha. The ambiance was cozy and I loved how there is outdoor seating for a warmer, less rainy day. Having power strips along the tables and walls were super helpful too! read more

Always appreciate the local coffee shop but this location is just run of the mill. Anthem is usually solid but I ha e noticed your experience will differ by store. Not a big fan of the advertising wraps which cover all the windows and the interior feels cluttered - especially considering the coffee bar is dominated by a pastry display case. The coffee is good and the location is great but there was one barista today who made the service unforgettably bad. I came in for a cappuccino and sat down to read. No idea during winter hours they close at 3pm--all good, my bad. 3pm hits and said barista goes to the door to switch the sign off and says "AAANND we're closed! Wow, and we still have a customer, wow, I love our customers!" She proceeded to go out the back door. Honest mistake on my part (summer hours usually close at 5pm); unnecessary aggression on barista's part. I will not be going back. This is the second location I've been to while visiting the area. The other location was the one In the stadium district. This location is a little smaller. Overall service was friendly. Decent amount of seating. Not a lot of power outlets that I noticed. The downside about Anthem is they are a little on the spendy side for drinks and pastries, otherwise I'd probably give them 5 stars. I just got their drip coffee and a cookie. Coffee was good. Cookie would definitely have been better warmed up. Picture doesn't really do it justice but it was a pretty hefty sized cookie. read more

I am sorry to say I've tried Anthem's lattes many times and have never been able to drink it. I hesitate to come here because it's always the same awkward, bordering on unpleasant, experience. The baristas lack anything resembling personality. (At least if you're female. They seem quite chatty with the male customers, though, which makes their curtness with me that much more annoying.) The only words the most recent barista uttered: 'Hi' ... (I said what I wanted) ... (then barista again) '$4.48.' Literally, that was it. A little (maybe a LOT?) customer service training wouldn't be wasted on this place.
