Jimmy was the one who did my nails, and you can tell right away that he's more than just someone doing a service, he's truly an artist. He was incredibly precise and intentional with every step, taking his time to make sure everything was perfect. What stood out to me most was how careful he was and how often he checked in throughout the appointment to make sure I was comfortable and happy with the direction we were going. I was given a recommendation for this salon by a friend. I was also given a recommended nail tech (a male nail tech.. which is relevant in a minute). I called and made an appointment and then showed up for that appointment. The nail tech whispered something to the receptionist and then the receptionist informed me of a "rule" where male nail techs don't work on male nails (yes I'm a guy). It shocked me. I probably should have left right then but I was shocked and I sat down and let them work on my nails. The guy I originally booked spent my entire manicure time sitting in the back of the studio on his phone. They assigned me a random nail tech that needed help doing a simple cat's eye. Had to call 2 different nail techs over during my manicure to get them right. I thought the salon was clean and I appreciate that they have sterilized instruments for each client. They did eventually get my nails right. The price was a bit more expensive than my normal spot. Overall, not sure I will be back. Still puzzling this one over in my head. read more

She asked many times for short cut square shape but the lady refused to cut shorter and insisted that filing it down would make it short. This is the worst mani/pedi I've ever gotten. I should have trusted the poor reviews but decided to give them a chance. First off, the salon is dirty. The second I walked in, I was grossed out. The nail polish selection was extremely picked over and looked old. Nothing about the salon was fresh, inviting, or welcoming. While I really liked the pedicure options for a little more high end "spa" treatment, the pedicure itself was awful. My tech didn't even file my toes nails (which was apparent when a nail broke later that day.) She also didn't push back/cut my cuticles? The polish looked streaky and messy. When she wrapped my legs in the warm arm towels, she didn't even wrap my feet. I chose to get a regular manicure instead of a no chip. I don't like the fact they don't put the fingerless gloves on the hands during a no chip like my regular salon. The gloves are lotioned and protect the hands. To start, my tech filed my nails completely flat, instead of at an upwards angle. When I went to wash my hands (also weird, why do they have you do that here?) I noticed they were almost all jagged because of the file. None of my nails were even/the same shape either. I asked my tech to fix them, specifically one of my pinkies. I asked multiple times and she didn't do it (picture attached of how jagged and flat it was before I fixed at home.) Once again, my tech didn't take care of my cuticles at all. Halfway through painting my nails, my tech left to do someone else's pedicure. A man came to finish my nails. He took the polish off one of my hands and muttered under his breath about the status of my nails. He was very rushed through the rest of my manicure. From there, he cut and trimmed my cuticles... but only on one hand! He left the other hand with cuticles still intact. The paint job started very messy. He did 3 coats on one hand and 2 on the other. My polish started chipping almost immediately. (Again, their polish selection looked very old.) I came with two other girls. One got a no chip and it looked nice, but my friend had to coach her through the whole thing. My other friend (who they separated from us during the manicure) wanted her no chip taken off, and then a regular manicure. The no chip removal was so poor, my friend finally stopped her and just paid for her pedicure (which was also a mess.) I would never recommend this salon to anyone. When I got home, I had to cut and file my nails to fix them. My toes and fingers both look like they were done at home, instead of by a professional. It was a complete waste of money. read more

DO NOT come here, they should close down . Pictures don't lie! I made an appointment for a pedi/ full set with design and mani/pedi for my daughter. I sat down for a pedicure and the lady started cutting my toenails. i noticed her filing my right foot round and left foot squared. I told her they needed to be the same shape and she didn't speak English so she called someone from the front they put someone else to do my nails that person tried to fix the round nails but they were already too short. So I said that was fine that she couldn't completely fix them. She went on to clean/cut cuticles and by the time she was done with my one foot I was so upset and told her to just start polishing because my one foot was so red and irritated. I'm not sure if the tools used were dirty, if she did something wrong or both. The manager apologized and said she was sorry and that I was really particular so her techs were not comfortable doing my nails. After what they did to my toes I was not planning to stay for my nails anyways so I was fine with that but for her to say I'm particular, of-course I am It's my body. To top it off for my daughter they were supposed to do a manicure and pedicure but they only did a nail polish change and still tried to charge me as if they did a mani/pedi. (I worked in our favor that they only did one pedi, so only I got the infection). Fast forward to later that night my toe was in pain, still red and it worsened as time went on (it was turning slightly purple. She shared an explanation on the service I received about a month prior and was really understanding about my reasoning for being a little frustrated. She took the time to speak with me one on one and ensure that I was satisfied with the service this time around and moving forward. I've been here twice for no chips. My nails always look beautiful when I walk out but the no chip never lasts a full 2 weeks. My no chips from other salons can last up to 3-3.5 weeks but from AV, the bottom starts to peel off after a week!!!!! So discouraged and wouldn't go again. read more

Especially when they are busy they don't do the best job because they are rushed, My mom and I have been going for the past two years. They have recently gotten lazy. They stopped cleaning the nail good. The picture I attached was two days after getting them done and you can still see all the cuticle. Absolutely unacceptable. And when I called to get them fixed they told me I had to get them done with the same guy who didn't do a good job in the first place otherwise, I would have to pay full price with someone else. I'm not a manicure kind of gal. But some of my friends are. And sometimes they get married. Back in May, the day before one of my friends got married, she brought her entire bridal party (myself included) to Anthony Vince Nail Spa for some nail pampering and girl time. My friend wanted us to pick from shades of silver or pink.... I decided to rebel a bit and go with..... *gasp* a glittery pink! If you know me, you also know that in addition to not being a manicure kind of gal, I also do not do pink. Pink is not my thing. But this time around? I thought it might be interesting to go with it. I asked for a gel manicure. Unbeknownst to me, gel manicures cost quite a lot more than a regular one. EEK! This, I did not find out until after it was done. Grrr. Fortunately, my friend was willing to cover the extra cost of the manicure (thank you, thank you, thank you!). I did, however, find out exactly why they cost so much more: THEY NEVER COME OFF. I swear. I got this pretty, shiny pink manicure that stayed on my nails for TWO MONTHS with no chips or cracks or anything. The only reason I had to cut the color off after two months (because by then my nails had grown enough for me to keep trimming the gel ends off) was for another wedding. Go figure! The entire experience itself was quite lovely too: the woman doing my nails took her time with the color, occasionally massaging my hands and forearms with lotion, and making sure I was satisfied with everything. I had a terrible experience just yesterday with AVNS. I only give it a 2 instead of a 1 because I had an ok apt the time before. My mom and I made an apt for 1 dip powder and 1 no-chip mani at 330. When we got there, they kept saying pedicure...which I corrected them over the phone multiple times when I was making my apt. We picked out our colors and had to wait until about 4pm because they overbooked. The owner was running all over the place. They kept bouncing around and had us move our seats. They were super rushed when doing my nails. I asked for coffin shaped. They went super far in on my thumbs (sore) and I have irritated and scabbed cuticles. The cherry on top? It took 2 hours. I've been going here for years and i can't believe I've never left a review! This place is absolutely amazing. I have never had a bad experience. I've specifically been going to the incredible Jimmy and Mimi for a couple years now and they have completely transformed my nails. My nails are so long, strong, healthy, and always beautiful thanks to the care and art that they provide. All the staff at AV south Barrington are always so kind and friendly and as a regular customer, they always make me feel taken care of! I have now moved to the city and i will always travel back to go to Jimmy at Anthony Vince in south Barrington. The salon is always clean, nice ambiance and music, and welcoming atmosphere. As long as Jimmy and Mimi work here, I will be coming back! My nails last as long as 4-5 weeks with Jimmys dipping powder service. I want to start by saying that my nail technician, John, was fabulous. He did a great job. However, this was my first time at this establishment and I won't be going back. The only reason I came here was because my friend had given me a $40 gift card. I know it was $40 because I called the number on the back of the card and they verified it. But the woman checking me out said she could not accept the gift card without the purchase of receipt. She said they switched machines and their new machine does not accept these gift cards. I flew home and stopped to see Henry for my usual no-chip (aka shellac) mani just over a month ago. To be exact, I had my nails done by him on 8/20 and today is now 9/25. I have since traveled to Colorado, lifted weights, CrossFit work outs, gone hiking and camping, and worked as a full time ER nurse (lots of handwashing with direct patient care). My nails have also been cut and filed at home by myself since they have grown so long over those weeks and the polish has yet to chip or crack. Anytime I have them done by Henry, I get consistent results. I have not had them last like this anywhere else. I tried to be patient and thought maybe it was a bad day for me or them, but now I've come to realize they do not know how to welcome their clients and make them feel comfortable. -It has gotten so dirty. The area I was sitting in had a layer of nail dust on the siding of the table. -The lady that did my manicure had a bit of a English barrier, which is understandable. However, she had so much negative energy and was so aggressive with my manicure. She rushed through it and just rubbed lotion in a sloppy manner on my hands and wasn't even close to a hand massage. -Nails salons are a dime a dozen. I am taking my business elsewhere! read more

I visited this salon as a walk in for a no chip manicure. It's filthy. I can't believe how unbothered everybody was with how unsanitary and filthy it was. The mail tech literally blew the mail dust from previous customers off the file before using it on me. The table was sticky and dirty from layers nail lacquer. The polish bottles were gunk-ed up and the powder brushed used to dust my hand had chunks of nail polish on the bristles. The actual manicure was also terrible. Terrible nail shape, did not take time so the gel manicure came out thick and uneven. I regret staying and letting them work on me. I will not return. read more

FINALLY found a salon that does gold foil!! It turned out beautifully and I got loads of compliments-people grabbing my hands left and right! My only wish is that it wasn't so pricey. $55 for just a gel mani is excessive. They treat you so kindly and give you a full forearm massage, so you certainly get your money's worth, but I can get a full set of acrylics for less than that elsewhere.
