We were craving something shareable for lunch, so we stopped by Anthony's Butcher & Deli. We ordered the Bay Ridge Special and the Imported Prosciutto. Both sandwiches were generously sized and perfect for sharing. We each had half of both sandwiches so we could try them both. Both sandwiches were flavorful, but our favorite was the Bay Ridge Special. I especially enjoyed the broccoli rabe, and the thinly sliced chicken made the sandwich even better. We stopped by to grab some sandwiches, and we ordered: +one of their Fried Filet of Sole Roll - comes with lettuces, tomatoes, and mayo; the fish was just okay, and while this was a special, it's better to stick to their more well-known specialty sandwiches +and, Anthony's Famous Steak sandwich - with black angus steak (2 pieces), white American, and peppers & onions; this was unbelievably delicious! A terrific gem in my BIL's Bay Ridge neighborhood. There are no delis back home so I had said I was craving a rare roast beef on rye and Anthony's certainly delivered. This place did not disappoint I got a grilled chicken wrap with fresh mozzarella WOW. It was such a solid wrap straight up perfect ! . Now The service was amazing Anthony is such a nice guy, offered me some chicken he had made fresh on display wow really good. The meat cuts he had on display looked very clean and Nicely cut. Food is OK but service is awful. Tried them several times over the years but never improved. Recently gave them another shot. Girl at front is unfriendly. She seems to stand around doing very little. Area is untidy. No napkins. First order was OK. Decided to go back and they failed totally. Ordered from man behind counter. Then three young women came in. He fawned all over them taking their orders. It was a pathetic performance. One was then given her order and so I asked where was mine? Moi? He had zero recollection of taking my order. Zilch. Nada. None. So then he asked if it was on the grill and they said yes it was. Then he told me they had run out of rolls and it would have to be a wrap. Was that OK? I said no it wasn't. I'm writing this post to highlight the customer service at this deli. Originally I was supposed to host thanksgiving for my family. About a month before thanksgiving I went in and spoke directly with the owner Anthony . He was kind and very helpful. He was happy to talk with me and provide me with my unusual request to have a deconstructed turkey. Anthony not only reassured me I would have a quality turkey the way I requested but also walked around the store with me to help me pick out various meats and cheese for antipasto I was making . Unfortunately plans had to change and I had to cancel my order . Anthony was not angry by my call very kind and great-full I cancelled within enough time. Always passed by and meant to come in but today I finally did. Coming in the first impression is that its neat and super clean layout. Second impression as I walk around the store is how much homemade and high quality products they have. The meats looked so fresh and it seems that they have a high turnover rate of food. I purchased the Bay Ridge Special on a roll and it meant my expectations. The chicken wasn't dry and everything meshed well together. Lastly the service- very helpful and informative. Walking in made me feel a bit nostalgic for the days when you felt like you walked into a family versus a store and this place def had that neighborhood family vibe. In a word outstanding. I don't live in the area and I haven't traveled to Bay Ridge in a long while since the quarantine so forgot how terrific Anthony's is. Finally went to Anthony's yesterday via car service and I'm so happy I did! I bought cooked chicken cutlets, pasta with broccoli and uncooked ground beef for a meatloaf I'm going to make. First of all the chicken cutlets were nice and thin just the way I like them and the pasta was perfectly seasoned. Both were very satisfying and delicious! The ground beef looks to be very high quality. I'm making my meatloaf tonight, so I'll know more later, but I'm confident it will be great. The ladies taking the orders at the front are super friendly, professional and caring. I can say the same for the owner, who I spoke to on the phone to ask their hours and what types of food they have. Great family business and you can easily tell they take great pride in what they do. They were also SO ACCOMODATING and worked with me as I changed my mind which menu items I wanted. They helped me determine quantity and created a custom menu to my liking. Best meats in Bay Ridge, just for starters. Anthony knows what he's doing. Their sandwiches are generously loaded - about triple what you'd get at a Subway shop. The signature sub is the proscuitto, loaded with paper-thin slices of melt-in-your-mouth Italian prosciutto. It's a $12 beast that will more than satisfy two people, and it's heavenly. And I'm hopelessly addicted to Anthony's huge, garlicky meatballs - they're a reason, in themselves, to cook spaghetti. Often. Adding an update: Anthony is happy to custom-cut the meats if you don't see what you want in the display case. I've gotten extra-thick (2") pork chops on a couple of occasions, for brining and roasting, and they're incredible. I also recommend using this place as your butcher. I have only gotten their meats once. But the roast beef was the best I've ever made...
