    Pastrami on Rye
    Julie P.

David's was quite the experience! Pastrami, corned beef, and brisket are already on my top 10 list of meats I love but all 3 here... absolutely amazing. This is officially my spot to get my fix!!! I once read a review that said that their meat was dry here... I didn't experience that at all. Everything was juicy and remained traditional to pass down David's legacy! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Walking in, you're surrounded by history -- photos and news articles... all that prove that this establishment has been around since the 60s.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Most people, who crave aesthetically pleasing places, would be bothered by how vintage it looks inside. But I loved it. Sticks to the true essence of Brooklyn honestly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My sandwich had me full from 11 AM until 8 PM... that's quality!!! The meat is made fresh every day, seasoned traditionally, and served with lots of love. The potato knish is soooo classic and sooo good. I ended up putting some of my pastrami in it and I can see why that's on the menu... those flavors together work so well. I love the story of how David's has stayed afloat overtime. The family is so nice and welcoming so I'm glad they are taking care of a Brooklyn staple.

Small place but friendly service. Pastrami and Brisket are both delicious, but I always seem to like Pastrami best:) [[HIGHLIGHT]]Only cons were the tiny bathroom to wash hands, and trying to find parking around there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Spent way too much time trying to find street parking, almost gave up before getting lucky to be able to park and go eat. Maybe they can do much better biz if able to relocate to a less busy area:)

Very decent brisket sandwich, not too salty nor wet and plenty of meat flavor. Quick and efficient service. Could've had more meat considering the price.

It was good but a bit on the pricier side. I got the corned beef and brisket sandwich and the bread fell apart so easily. The food got to us quickly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was pretty hot indoor, we dined in[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Pastrami lunch special (salad not pictured).

Well this was a spectacular find in Crown Heights. Forget Katz and head here instead. I got the pastrami lunch special (comes with fries and a salad) for $24, which was great value imo. The pastrami is excellent. Moist and a good portion to boot. Will definitely be back!

David's Brisket House has been in business for a few decades. The brisket and pastrami was incredibly tender and melt-in-your-mouth. I have to come back and try their other menu items.

Great brisket experience, all the Mayo-basted sides and dishes you could want, tender, juicy beef and meats very solid. Started eating beef again, but strictly from here or whateve. Great spot for a sandwich Great selection and variety.

Man, this is the real deal spot for corned beef and brisket. Got a small corned beef and a medium pastrami, both on rye with mustard wrapped to go. When I got into them a couple hours later, they were excellent. I was afraid that the bread would have soaked up the mustard, but not so. Next time I'm eating them in the restaurant! Can't wait to go back!

    Chicken Salad Sandwich

Ordered a chicken salad sandwich and this is what I was served. It was just a piece of bland chicken with lettuce and tomato. Definitely do not recommend. *EDIT* Once I posted this review, the owner was so quick to fix this issue as I was still in the restaurant and had the staff bring me the correct chicken salad sandwich. The chicken salad sandwich was delicious and what I expected! Thank you again for the quick response to my complaint!!

Pastrami Brisket Combo (Medium) with Au Jus
    Martin B.

I went there for the first time in several years today and it was far better than I remembered it. I got the medium pastrami-brisket combo. It's hard to find brisket that's moist and flavorful and this was it. And they also give you a cup of great au jus which makes it even better. The pastrami was right up there with all the more 'famous' delis with great bark on the edges. I don't know whose rye bread they use, but it was hearty, tasty, crusty and held the sandwich well, unlike the junk bread they serve at Katz's. Prices were quite fair compared to other delis. $21 for the sandwich and $1.75 for the Dr. Brown's soda (some delis charge $3.50 for the soda). And it came with several large slices of quite good pickles. I think the large sandwich is about $3 extra. And served on a REAL plate. This was a fabulous lunch. I've got to get there more often. I only have one complaint: I wish they'd open a few branches around the city.

Triple meat (Pastrami, Corned Beef, and Brisket) sandwich combo
    Matthew S.

The hell with everything else on the menu, when you sell brisket, pastrami, and corned beef on the menu, and that is what you advertise, that is what I am going to focus on. Before I get into what I ordered, I will preface this review by saying this is NOT a Jewish deli. It is owned by a Muslim family and the meats are halal, which is essentially the Islamic kosher. That matters little to me. I have eaten halal meat and like it, so here I go. I got the sandwich with all three meats along with a coleslaw, and it did not disappoint one bit. All the meats are melty, briney, with so much flavor and very easy to eat. Get a fork and eat this open faced for a more enjoyable plate of food. There is also an option to get it with mayo but that would be a horrid decision on your part. Stick with the mustard, it will help you eat this and enjoy it more. The dish also comes with a nice array of pickles and and served on seedless rye bread. Smart! Both of them are the perfect pairing so the meats digest easier. I also found the cashier who took my order highly intelligent, with good know-how. He was patient and answered all my questions in a succinct, straightforward, respectful, and thoughtful manner. More restaurants need to hire kids like him. Now for the dirt, most of it nitpicks. -While my meal was served on a ceramic plate, the coleslaw was served in a clamshell container. That is disgusting. Give it to me on a ramekin or another sort of bowl. We eat with our eyes, and seeing this made me throw it away after three bites. -Offer free water. Salty meats mean higher water consumption. Do not be greedy. Give me free water. It will not kill the business. -They offer a Moroccan soup at $7, but it appears they only serve it in tupperware bowls. That ruins it. Put it in a real ceramic bowl to allow all the flavors to know each other and make the dish look real pretty. -I would only go in daylight here as the location outside is a bit sketchy (Bed-Stuy, the "You May Be Right" version of Bed-Stuy). Besides these nitpicks, I am happy I visited here and really happy with the overall result. This definitely rivals Katz's, Sarge's, and 2nd Ave Deli as having some of the best pastrami, corned beef, and brisket in New York City.

    pickle is full sour
    Steve A.

i can say this place does not at all feel like an old Jewish deli. It's a little midblock store you can easily miss with a little counter and, well, the meat is halal not kosher. Anyway, the food actually seems to come out authentic. Constant service in and out but friendly and quick. Kraut was an extra $1.50 and they didn't say anything but at least I saw it in the register. Buyer, be alert! And the verdict... Not quite enough to draw me back. Rye bread has no seeds and fell apart on me. Thick cut pastrami doesn't work to the right senses that thin cut does. In the end I think Eppes Essen wins and is much closer to home. Not bad here at David's but that's my overall impression in a New York minute.

    Tender Corned Beef
    JL H.

Quaint. Service is affable. Allows you to sample, which led to our purchase of the both supple slices of Corned Beef and Pastrami. Although the Brisket was equally tender, it had NO FLAVOR, NONE, zilch, nada. The Corned Beef had a Bouilloned stock flavor, which was delish. The Pastrami was good. Both sandwiches 1. Needed to be sliced thicker, although we loved the slivers to melt in our mouths but they both fell apart, especially the Pastrami and 2. Needed stronger bread. We got the Medium sized on Wheat and Rye. Neither sandwiches held up, which is highly frustrating, especially when you are On-the-Go.

Let's start with the good - the service and ambiance were on point. I went on a Sunday evening around 7pm. It was busy inside, but since I was a solo diner I was seated immediately by the bar. The servers were friendly and attentive. Probably 3-4 different people checked in multiple times throughout the meal. Where I struggle is with the actual burger itself. As a non-resident New Yorker, for me $22.50 is a lot to spend on a burger and fries. It needs to rock my world at that price point. And it just didn't. I got the B&B Burger. The onion ring tasted like it had been refried a second time to make my burger. The bread was crumbly like it was on the verge of going stale. The actual beef patty itself was decent - good flavor. Usually I can overlook an okay burger if the fries are top notch, but these fries were under-seasoned and also 'just okay'. I also got a side of Chicken Tenders. These were good - no complaints here. I really wanted to like this spot, but not sure this would be a return visit for me.

To begin with the atmosphere of the restaurant is dim lighting a few tables with a reasonable sized bar in the middle of the room. They also have an open kitchen concept where just past the bar you can see the cooks working. My server Inda was polite and knowledgeable about the menu. My burger was excellent, normally I don't eat my burger with a knife and folk, but in this case with all the cheese and sauce oozing down the sides, not to mention the caramelized onions, it was necessary. (If I were home I wouldn't mind having burger juices running down my arm, but other people were eating in the restaurant also). The tiny pickles which I can't remember the name of were an added treat to the burger. I decided to order mine with the loaded fries. Just imagine the ground burger with all the toppings covering french fries and add melted white cheese. Since I was alone I didn't order a pizza because how would I eat it all, but next time I will try the pizza. I don't mind paying extra for a burger when it's aged beef and the taste is great. I definitely recommend this location. There is a fast food burger restaurant next door to Emily's but I can't imagine there burgers compare. I will try them another time and let you know. My sandwich was more well-done than requested. They don't offer 'rare'. The few bites with red meat were infinitely better than the rest of the sandwich. The roll, as everyone points out, is baked in house. Though light and puffy, it didn't outweigh overdone beef. Onion rings were great, root beer average, and lemonade -- per my husband who loves lemonade -- excellent. While I wouldn't balk about returning, my vote goes to Brennan and Carr, though truly, when cooked as requested there is no substantial difference. I prefer what they call a "knife and fork job" where the sandwich, the meat the bread is all dunked and comes out in a river of au jus. They make amazing sides, I typically go for the onion rings and corn fritters which are tasty, fried nugget of sweet corn and they are delicious. Do note, they only take cash and sometimes it takes a while to get your food but in the end it is so very worth it.

Curious about the "famous" Brooklyn roast beef war -- yeah! it's a thing! -- T and I decided to see for ourselves. (Once I try the competition I'll weigh in with my vote.) With a reputation built on beef we ignored other options and researched how to order. You can get double dip, "dingle-dangle" (don't ask), cheese/no cheese ... it was confusing. We both went with rare roast beef, cheese and onions. T asked for his double-dipped in gravy. Yum! Short of five stars, but yum nonetheless. We ordered two unhealthy sides which added to the decadence of our lunch: corn fritters and onion rings. If you only get one, go with the fritters. The place is busy. You'll likely have to wait a bit -- but I found it interesting to watch the guys at the counter work. Service was friendly and attentive. Unlike someone's comment about paying blind -- not so. We were given a check with an accurate breakdown of what we ordered. Prices are posted. And yes -- cash only.

I didn't do the egg, which I regret, but did get the thick cut bacon. The burger is a must! It's probably the best burger I have eaten in a long time. Hospitality wise, it was top notch. This group knew I had a shellfish allergy and took extra time to make sure there was no cross contamination with the burger. The wings were good as well, but I wouldn't bank on it being the draw. They also come with a warm towel, which is a really nice touch. Overall, just a great experience. I have been twice, so it is more than a one time stop.

The restaurant was extremely busy and much noisier than I expected. I ordered the double cheeseburger with bacon and an egg, and I have to say, it was a thing of beauty. It may be the best looking burger I've ever had. It tasted really good too, but for me it didn't quite live up to the hype. It was a very good burger, just not the best I've had. My wife had the fried chicken sliders, which unfortunately were pretty unmemorable. The chicken really could have benefited from more seasoning. Service was average, not bad by any means, but nothing that stood out either. Overall I'd give it 3.5 stars, I'm glad I finally tried Au Cheval and the burger was definitely good, but considering all the hype, I was a little let down by the overall experience. I'll have to try the original Chicago location at some point for comparison!
