3.5 stars I came to Farmer in the Deli cause of the hype it has on social media for thier viral chopped sandwhiches. I arrived and of course thier was a line. I waited for about 45 minutes, while waiting I picked up my chips and a white peach ginger ale. I also talked to the girl in front and she explained that you can get your sandwhich on a hero or roll. I ordered a chopped honey turkey with onions, pickles, lettuce and mayo. The guy who made my sandwich was soo friendly and patient. I just put my trust in him to hook it up lol. He also asked if I wanted to add the chips and I did. Overall my sandwhich was better the next day after it firmed up. The flavor was good but the texture was soft, mushy and just not what I want in a turkey sandwhich. It ran me about 12.00 and it was worth the experience. read more

I've have been going to farmer in the deli since I was a teenager and b4 any of the social media exploits. The original name was called laurose and tuna salad chopping has been happening for over four decades. My fort green family really know what it is. My cousin and I stopped by yesterday and picked up a couple of heroes. I had to get my beef salami and 3 pepper colby jack cheese, extra mayo, lettuce, tomatoes and pickles, on a whole wheat hero (10.99) . Much love to a family staple for years. The whole time I was seeing this sandwich be made, looking at the sandwich afterwards, then eating this sandwich, I had to keep thinking the same thing over and over again. This is not a tuna sandwich. Sure, yes, you could get one here, but that would be missing the whole point of this deli/sandwich shop, where for a few extra dollars, the staff will finely chop everything you want in your sandwich, compress it into a block of unrecognizable wreck, then slather the whole thing onto your choice of bread (get a hero here). I went here on a weekday during a lull between lunch and dinner, and there was still a decent line! Rumor has it on weekends during lunch rush a line can form out the door! At least it moves when somebody is not ordering for their entire family or apartment. Before I came here, I did my research and discovered turkey sandwiches are the big ticket. I ordered a honey turkey hero with lettuce, tomato, mayo, deli mustard, American cheese, oil, and red wine vinegar. Some things cost a bit extra, but that is okay. I also got it chopped because that is the thing here. You do not have to do it that way, but honestly, you should. The sandwich is made before me, all the chopping, piling, spreading, slicing, it feels like you are watching your sandwich come to life! After 10-15 minutes of ooh's and aah's, it is brought to the cash register, rung up, thank you have a nice day, and off you go. There is nowhere to sit as it is really a glorified neighborhood bodega. Thankfully, Fort Greene Park is only about a five minute walk from the deli, so I made a beeline for the park, found an empty picnic table, and made like Aqualung as I opened the wrapping to see my newborn child, um, I mean my chopped hero. Again, upon opening, I had to keep saying to myself, this is not a tuna sandwich, this is not a tuna sandwich. After one bite, I could tell coming here was the right move after a long day. Taking a bite of the sandwich in between watching videos of this made me all the more excited to keep at it. In fact, I found as I took more bites I found the sandwich gets better and better. All the bites had everything I ordered in the sandwich. Best of all, despite its size, this sandwich did not fill me up like I thought it would. Manhattan has Chopped Cheese in Haji's, but this is a unique Brooklyn treasure. Between this, Defonte's, and Lioni, Brooklyn has a Holy Trinity of sandwich shops, with Jimmy's as their jester, or if I want to keep with the piety, the pope. Before I wrap up this review, I want to thank two Yelpers for recommending me this spot. You know who you are. Chopped sandwich was delicious! If you come during the day expect to wait on a line potentially wrapping around the store. It doesn't move as quickly as I had hoped. While the wait may have been a big of a downer, the sandwich wasn't! I went with the honey turkey with lettuce, tomato, pickles, swiss cheese, pepper, and an old school Dipsy Doodles as my crunch factor and it didn't disappoint. I made a 45 minute walk all the way to try this spot that has gone viral for their chopped turkey sandwiches. When I arrived on a Saturday at 3pm, there was a line that wrapped around the store. While waiting in line, you can grab a bag of chips and drink. The tip is to get a bag of chips to add into your sandwich for some extra flavor and crunch. For my sando, I got the Chopped Honey Maple Turkey on Hero ($11.99) with Pepper Jack Cheese (+$1). Also got all the fix-ins: lettuce, tomato, mayo, salt, pepper, vinegar, and oil. I added half my bag of Utz Crab flavored chips ($2) as well. When I went to pay for it, they even staple my opened bag of chips to "seal" it back for me. It's definitely cool to see them make your sandwich in front of you. Because everything is made to order, the line moves slow thus the long wait times. I ended up waiting 50 minutes. Also, grabbed a bottle of Arizona Green Tea ($1.25) to enjoy my meal over at Fort Green Park. You know how they say you gotta get a bite of everything? This is what makes a chopped cheese so good-- because all the ingredients are well infused together. No lines when I went, not the usual experience so I was glad only 2 people were ahead. The sandwiches artists here are friendly and will make your sammich exactly the way you want it. They are very proud of their craft. You can get traditional layouts and choose from the board. The lure of this place is the chopped up ingredients and you have the option to be creative, adding chips or anything from the grocery shelves onto the chopping board. On prior visits I've seen some combos that either made me sway my own order or give the silent eye roll. Today I was getting it for my hubby who likes to keep it simple. I've been hearing about "Farmer In the Deli" for years. People talked about the amount of food you get for a great price. That sounded like music to my ears, so I had to check it out. If you are driving, parking in the areas is a pain, so give yourself time because it will take awhile. The outside of the building speaks history, it's older and not modernized. Inside is about the same, but it is tight in there. They have isles packed with groceries, but offer no seating. That's the trade off to sell more product I guess. You line up around the back of the store and wait. I mean really wait. The line is slow and takes time. I spent a lot of time just waiting. However, I finally got to the counter and was able to order. This delis claim to fame is that you can make sandwiches anyway you want and I mean anyway, you can choose chips, sauces, and meats to go into your sandwich. After the chop, they put it between a hero or roll and your off. I decided to get turkey and cheddar, bacon with a few toppings. After I went to the counter paid and had to sit in my car to eat, if you go there to get full, mission accomplished! This sandwich is massive. I almost didn't finish it, I said almost. But the sandwich was lacking something. I guess, I want to say flavor. They didn't put enough cheese on it, the bread was a bit hard, and the mayo was kinda bland. This is definitely a much larger and older deli, which has some chaotic charm. The line moves quickly and the staff are super quick and skilled. I highly recommend getting the toasted hero sandwich and adding some chips. I enjoyed my turkey with cool ranch Doritos, and added some chopped banana peppers and jalapeños as well. It is a bit pricey for sandwiches, and one hero with some additions came out to ~$15. Be warned it is a very heavy sandwich, as the base relies pretty heavily on mayo! This place had been in my bucket list forever and we finally made it to NY. The sandwich was worth the trip from Manhattan. It was so good. They have loads of specialty chips on the other side of the store to pair with your sandwich. I got the chopped mesquite turkey and honey mustard. They hand chop the smithereens out of it. The guys making the sandwiches were nice. There is no place to eat inside b/c it's like a corner store. I have nothing but good things to say about Farmer In the Deli. I used to live close by and go pretty frequently, but despite living further, we still make sure to come by when we can. Walk in and head straight to the back to get in line. Grab some chips while you wait! Chopped, chopped, chopped, they do it best! Be warned, there will likely be a line, even at 2am, but it moves fast. I really love getting tuna, chicken and turkey pastrami but really, you can't go wrong with any of their cuts. Same goes for the cheeses. My favorite thing about this place is they do NOT skimp on portions. You'll need a fork to catch everything as you eat. One thing I really like about these guys is they have an option without any bread, where you get all the goods but in a plastic bowl. If you're cutting down on carbs, it's a great option. I'm already trying to plan my next visit to the store! My friend and I were in Brooklyn for the day and I found this location on tiktok because it went viral. We needed to try it before we went back home to Jersey and I'm so happy we did. Yes it is a corner store with your convenient needs but the chopped sandwiches are the star of the show I'm not sure why the chopped Ingredients make the sandwich 10 times better but it was worth the visit. I can't remember the exact price but it varied between $11-$14 and well worth it. You can have it on a hero (long sub bread) or a roll. You can also opt to add chips in your chopped sandwich just hand them the bag. I got the honey maple turkey provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, banana peppers, extra mayo, oil, vinegar, and pepper and a oregano on a hero. This place is relatively famous and usually has a very long line. I figured the line wouldn't be too long, but it was-- also, the line moves rather slowly because people usually get multiple sandwiches. Wow! It was my first time trying a chopped sandwich & it was divine! We randomly came here as it was near a yelp event we went to. Well a few Saturdays ago I had some extra time after an appt and decided to see what the hype was about that was recently circling on social about Farmer in the Deli. It should be noted that most of the hype was from tourists. As a native NYer (born & raised) deli sandwich from the corner stores (bodega or Ock) are not anything new to us. They are staples for both field and road trips. However, here they chop up all of your ingredients and mold it to fit your bread nicely. There was a line and will probably always be a line but it moved fairly quick and the gentleman that assisted me was very pleasant and fast. I did my typical honey turkey and swiss with brown mustard, lettuce and tomatoes. I added black pepper, pickles, banana peppers and oil & vinegar. It was chopped and assembled on a roll. I grabbed a beverage and some chips. Was the sandwhich was good?... Yes! It's my typical go-to ingredients for a sando at the bodega, so I didn't expect anything different in that regard. Was gentleman nice?... Yes Was the price decent?... Typical Was it spectacular?... No It is chopped deli ingredients that may look like mush to some. Yes, you get a taste of everything in one bite but in all honesty having everything chopped makes it extremely messy. The portion size is definitely large for the price and the ingredients were fresh, I really appreciated the soft bread however it tasted like an average sandwich for me. We came around 4:45 am after a rave and were ready to eattt!! The people there were very friendly and it seemed so fun to finally get to try the famous chopped sandwiches!
