Enjoy your hipster bike or subway mission out to Nostrand Ave where, as a tourist, it might feel like some sort of off-the-beaten-path adventure. While this place isn't in a gentrified area, it is in what can be considered a "food desert", google it. Not a lot of things are what would be considered fresh food. Most things are prepackaged, including the croissant that they used. Here's a little known tip for tourists & visitors; you can basically pull anything from a shelf in the store, give it to the person at the deli - any deli - and tell them what you want on it & how to make it. So if you want one of these breakfast sandwiches that came up on Reddit for some reason, look for a deli that has fresh croissants delivered everyday and save yourself the trip on the rarely running G train.

The bacon and eggs on this croissant sandwich are plentiful indeed.

I waited for about 45 minutes, while waiting I picked up my chips and a white peach ginger ale. I also talked to the girl in front and she explained that you can get your sandwhich on a hero or roll. I ordered a chopped honey turkey with onions, pickles, lettuce and mayo. The guy who made my sandwich was soo friendly and patient. I just put my trust in him to hook it up lol. He also asked if I wanted to add the chips and I did. Overall my sandwhich was better the next day after it firmed up. The flavor was good but the texture was soft, mushy and just not what I want in a turkey sandwhich. It ran me about 12.00 and it was worth the experience.

Definitely a place for you to pick up a sandwich that won't break the bank.

If that's not the most Brooklyn thing ever, I don't know what is. Same sandwiches, different blessing. Everybody says order the pastrami, so I listened like a grown man should. Pastrami on rye with spicy mustard absolutely slapped. Smoky, juicy, perfectly stacked, and messy enough to ruin your shirt with honor. Then came the beef brisket on rye with a cup of au jus for dipping... and brother, that dip should be studied by scientists. Pure perfection. Washed everything down with a Dr. Brown's root beer like it was 1957. No fake trendy nonsense. No deconstructed sandwiches. Just old-school deli greatness that punches you directly in the soul. Great food doesn't care where you come from -- it just brings everybody to the same table. That's New York. That's Brooklyn.

I went with two friends so were able to try three different sandwiches and to be honest, they were all just alright. The food: Roast Pork Special- Fried Eggplant, Provolone, Broccoli Rob- The texture of the pork came off a bit dry, the eggplant was good but kinda gets lost in the sandwich so if I literally had it on it's own I would have appreciated it more but who eats fried eggplant by itself? The rob was nice it added a nice crunch but didn't offer that much flavor. Giuseppe Special- Eggplant parm, meatballs, melted mozzarella. I couldn't get over how soggy the bread was. It was like wet paper towel to me. Soggy bread and everything kinda tasting the same made it underwhelming. Nicky Special- It just tasted like salad in between bread. There was so much veg, that was the main thing I remember in that sandwich.

We requested some for our end of the table - the nasty waiter begrudgingly brought it about 10 minutes later. Two people sitting opposite us ordered one kasha knish each but were not told the restaurant did not have any. Three potato knishes, two square and one round were served instead without any explanation or request for them. I ordered what should have been a restaurant special, pastrami, coleslaw and mustard served on an open knish. The knish was served ice cold, seeming to have just been pulled from the refrigerator and cut open. I asked for a knife to cut into the food but it never arrived. The pastrami was a fatty, inedible mess, next to no meat, just spices on room temperature meat fat. It was awful. The coleslaw and mustard were fine. Unfortunately, the dish as a whole was unpleasantly inedible. The same Hispanic waiter was rude to the person sitting next to me and the person sitting opposite me. He seemed intent on making it clear that customers were an inconvenience to him. While we were a large group other than us the restaurant was empty. With so few customers you'd think they'd at least make an effort with the food or basic courteous service. Nah, didn't happen. I would have liked to recommend Essen as a great kosher restaurant but I can't. My meal was awful, the waiter rude. Coleslaw was great, but nothing else was. I was very disappointed.
