We started enjoying Anthony's Gourmet Pizza when they were in a gas station at the corner of Packard and Stadium Boulevard many years ago. But we hadn't tried them in a long time so we decided to take a trip down memory lane. It was every bit as good and hefty as I recall it being. We did take-out so we don't have anything to add with regards to service or atmosphere. But the pizza was ready when promised. These things are HEAVY! And cheese laden. Certainly not for every day consumption but as a cheesy treat, Anthony's can't be beat. read more

Opting to dine in rather than take it to go, we found the pizza shop to be modest with just a few tables, but ideal for a casual meal. Stopped in for a Chicago deep dish pizza. Basic pizzeria. About 5 tables for indoor seating but appears to have outside dining in the summer at picnic tables. Basic toppings, pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms and green peppers. Crust was light and cooked perfectly. Sauce is very good. The pizza had good pull on the cheese, fresh mozzarella and plenty of it! Not much of a drink selection but they had bottled water, Coke and some flavored sparkling water. read more

Impressed with a Chicago style deep dish moment from Anthony's. This was so absolutely flavorful and delicious. I didn't know about this location and it's definitely in a nondescript area but it is truly a gem. We ordered their medium Chicago deep dish and a side of Cajun potato wedges. We ordered the pizza with sausage, garlic, and spinach and it was super delicious! All the toppings definitely tasted fresh and the sauce was amazing. I only wish there was more of a crisp to the crust but we were actually able to accomplish this by stick our leftovers in the oven! Soo good. Updating because for the first time we tried their deep dish pizza and it was AWESOME! In all honesty, it was an accident. My husband got confused and accidentally ordered it instead of a hand tossed round. When we opened the box we were greeted with the cheesiest, most delicious heaped pizza I've seen since I lived in Chicago! Pepperoni, mushroom, and chopped garlic all gooey with the sauce and cheese. It was perfection. And HUGE. We ordered a large and needless to say, we have a ton of leftovers which I'm not mad about. Excited to have it for dinner again tonight! But after biting into this pizza, I soon realized that my pizza was at a lesser quality because it had a lack of toppings. The pizza was delicious, love the flavor of the sauce. My first couple of visits were good, no issues, pleasant experiences. One incident left a bad taste (no pun intended) - they made both of my pizzas incorrectly, placed my name in a book for remakes, and when I called to have them remade, they only applied a discount to the order. The original call-taker left the impression that the pizzas would be remade for free, so that was my expectation, rather than paying for their mistake. No one was rude or anything, I just disagree with how that was handled, and likely won't return. read more

Hailing from Chicago, I have had my share of deep dish pizzas, and let me tell you, Anthony's makes a great one! After having a disappointing experience with deep dish pizza when I first moved to AA, I had given up on finding a good one...until I crossed paths with Anthony's fairly recently. So, I'm back again in Ann Arbor for the weekend visiting with my sister. We always have such a great time whether we're hanging around the house, out exploring or eating together. I am definitely a foodie but my sister is very much eats the same thing every day kind of gal so I was really excited when she offered that she had read some great things about Anthony's gourmet pizza and that there was one off Maple Road which is nearby her home. She hadn't tried it yet and knew I was the perfect subject so we called in our order. Be sure to take a thorough look at the menu as there's quite a lot on it. Several styles of pizza along with lots of toppings and likely could suit anyone who enjoys pizza! They also have a café menu and it has beverages along with salads and some appetizers which also sounded delicious. In fact we decided to get a Greek salad and share it. It turned out to be more than enough for both of us I would say generously would serve three and salad portion would serve four so the $16 is not unreasonable. I'm not too picky about the toppings on my pizza I will eat just about anything except fru fru veggies! I love them on their own but I'm just not a fan of broccoli or that type of veggie on pizza. We decided to go with mushrooms, green olives and some Italian sausage. That turned out to be a great combination. I was explaining that if we decided we had wanted to completely separate halves I was sure that they could do a half-and-half pizza for us but will have to save that for another time because we were both in sync for supper yesterday. In fact starving! As reported the pizza was fantastic! The toppings were fresh and delicious, nothing out of a can! The sauce was excellent and just the right amount not to speak of the cheese that was also obviously the real deal. Can't wait to try it again with another style pie. This time we went with the New York style because we were both in the mood for a thin crust. It was thin however it was not cracker like it actually was made from pizza dough. Excellent quality in sauce and crust, lots of toppings and really good cheese. You can taste the difference here. This is not a cheapie pizza place, definitely a special occasion one. They can go head to head with the New York pizza places in town (NYPD and Joe's), especially for large, foldable slices on their round pizza. The pepperoni has a meatier flavor than most places. The cheese was thick and pulled with the slice beautifully. The crust has a crisp, baked edge and is delicious in an of itself. It is not too doughy. I wish it was a little less expensive but the quality is there to back it up. read more

Needed to take home a quick dinner and it was closest restaurants to me as I headed to the freeway. Wow, was I glad I did! I took home a whole deep dish spinach and feta. It happened to be in the display case: the worker offered to make me a fresh one or heat it up, but I was in a rush. Getting home, I microwaved two slices. Amazing! The ingredients were very fresh, and the crust was perfect, and the seasoning and sauce perfect. I absolutely cannot wait to go back and try a hot fresh slice of deep dish!!! Deep dish Chicago looks like the real thing, but it's not. Crust should be flaky, buttery like a fruit pie; it's not...just the usual bread dough. Sausage patty should cover entire pizza; instead the sausage is minimally placed near the edges only. Mozzarella cheese they use is regrettably bland. Good stuff! During a stay in Ann Arbor I found myself hungry but not absolutely starving. Also, I was alone on this trip so I didn't feel like going into a restaurant. I searched through Yelp! looking for some local restaurants. I came across Anthony's. Right off the bat, Anthony's menu had exactly what I was looking for. I ordered a personal size deep dish sausage and spinach pizza. I ordered it to pick up and bring back to the hotel. The gentleman on the phone was polite and friendly. I ordered my pizza which he said would take about 15 minutes. With a small dining area, Anthony's reminds me of a true Pizzeria. Again, the staff is very friendly and my pizza was ready exactly when they said it was going to be. After grabbing a few plates, napkins, utensils and red pepper flakes, I headed back to my hotel for dinner. From the onset, I knew this was going to be good. The second I opened the the box I could see and smell the goodness. The pizza was great. No complaints. The sausage was different, I will say that, however it was not bad. Instead of you or more traditional Italian sausage chunks, Anthony's Italian sausage was quite thin. Fresh ingredients, great flavors. This deep dish pizza from Anthony's really hit the spot. This is one of my favorite pizza places for deep dish pizza. I really enjoy a peperoni and Italian sausage deep dish pizza from Antonio's. It takes about 30 to 40 minutes after you order for it to be ready coupled with and antipasto salad it is a great meal with leftovers. It is a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. read more

Hands down my favorite pizza in Ann Arbor. The Anthony's deep dish with pepperoni and garlic is my go to. A little pricier, a little heavier than your average pizza but so satisfying. The secret's in the sauce... Seriously, this has become my mantra when trying out pizza places lately, because the sauce is so critical to the overall composition that if you have it wrong, everything is wrong. Well, Anthony's Gourmet definitely has it RIGHT! This may be a bit presumptuous, as we only ordered the Chicago Stuffed "American" (mushroom and pepperoni), but like I said above, the sauce is phenomenal; I extrapolate that truth out to mean that their other products must be just as fabulous. So, the Chicago Stuffed American. An even mixture of pepperoni and mushroom throughout - mushrooms aren't overly flavorful, and pepperoni didn't seem too greasy. The crust was just as you'd expect a Chicago Style deep dish to be: a perfect buttery crunch on the outside, fluffy on the inside. The "stuffed" for those that are unaware, means they add a thin layer of dough on top of the cheese and ingredients, and then add a nice layer of sauce on top (that's the Chicago style). This makes for a very fulfilling, heavy pizza. We ordered a 12", the "medium", so that we could have leftovers. It's just my wife and I (where my Wolverine's at?!), and this lasted us two nights *score*. PRO TIP: Reheat in the oven, ~400 degrees for about 10-15 minutes. We use a pizza stone for even hearing. But check their directions online, as they do have take and bake options which I'm sure have official heating directions. Pricing seems to be on par with other area pizza restaurants. It was hard to stomach $40 for a pizza (this was the 12" Chicago stuffed with tax/delivery, but with a $5 GrubHub discount code), but it fed us for 2 nights and was VERY good. Due to cost, this may not be a weekly, or even monthly occurrence, but we definitely will be back for more! read more

Five stars for delicious food and for delivering on an ice cold snowy day. Our group of five adults definitely over ordered but leftovers came in handy! We ordered the Anthony's style deep dish, the Bianca round (topped with spinach, roasted garlic and potatoes), a veggie pizza and a Margherita. Plus two ordered of the Greek salad which is so good! One salad would have been plenty. The dressings is super flavorful and unlike traditional Greek salads this one comes with a blend of greens which i absolutely loved. The salad is also served with a giant slice of feta cheese! I'd happily order from Anthony's again. It's not the lightest Meal out there, but certainly worth the calories! read more

Big huge fan of Anthony's Gourmet Pizza. You need to like deep dish pizza. Not any deep dish but DEEP DEEP dish. Anthony's comes in at 2" plus thick of cheesy saucy goodness. For those that like Pizza Papolis, you will feel right at home here though I think Anthony's puts a little more care into their pies. Anthony's isn't a cheap date but you shouldn't need to eat more than two slices. Also, this is not a place I would plan on eating in at. There are some tables and chairs set up but this is clearly a restaurant targeting the carry out community. Oh, one last tidbit: Leave yourself around 45 minutes or so. I haven't been eating out recently. So I wanted a special place. The ads for Anthony's says it's gourmet. To me, that means there is good food and extra special touches that make the food/eating experience above the average. Is that possible for delivery? Anthony's has quality food, but my experience doesn't put it in the gourmet range. They serve a decent pizza. I always order the simplest food to evaluate a new restaurant. So I got the New York style cheese pizza. It was well made with no large bubbles in the crust. The sauce is tasty and the cheese quite good and all was well balanced. I will buy this again. We got delivery. Even though they came faster than expected everything was luke warm. They need to invest in those warming packs cheaper pizza places have. That's why I am giving Anthony's 3 stars instead of 4. It was my friend's birthday, so I bought him the chocolate ganache cake. It is tasty yet definitely not large enough for two. At $6.50, he said he wouldn't buy it for himself. He said the chicken sub was good. It's made with real chicken not that deli pressed meat that's not worth eating. He didn't like the sub sauce--which seems to be a mediocre Italian dressing. The salad is good and generously sized. Made with red leaf lettuce. Maybe they were busy but they didn't cut up the peppers or onion which came in large slices. I didn't care for the dressing so I used my own. read more

I have a pretty severe lactose intolerance issue but when I'm willing to suffer, this is the place I go. That should be all the review you need! :-) But, in case you want more info than that - Anthony's is a small store front in a plaza on the NW side of Ann Arbor. I've never eaten in, but they have some seating available. We always call ahead for pickup. When you order ahead for a Chicago style deep dish (which I highly recommend - it's incredible and the sauce is so flavorful), it's usually a 25-30 minute wait and I've never come in to find our pizza not ready. The folks at Anthony's are efficient and their pizza is excellent. No frills and great flavor! And it saves you a trip to Chicago! read more

Anthony's had great reviews, and I trust my Yelpers.. so I HAD to try it when my most recent pizza craving struck. YELP DID NOT DISAPPOINT. They have a variety of crust options (deep dish, original, thin) - although the crust was probably the least remarkable part of the experience - it was good enough. The toppings and the service are what really make Anthony's Gourmet worth Yelpin' about. There are so many toppings to choose from that it took me awhile to decide. The staff was very accommodating of my special requests (of course I couldn't just order off of the standard menu). I ended up with a 'traditional round' pizza with eggplant, zucchini and sundried tomatoes AND a thin crust with chicken, roasted garlic, and asparagus. I asked for both with "light cheese" and only one seemed to come that way but both were delicious and both were absolutely COVERED in toppings. Toppings for days! With other pizza places I have been burned - paying $2-3 for 'garlic' that you can't find on the pizza, or 1-2 pieces of scattered eggplant (even when I asked for extra). NOT HERE. Oh, no. Anthony's gives you plenty of bang for your buck. Whole, large cloves of garlic, chunks of chicken and so many veggies you can't keep it all on your slice. I originally called the location downtown because they're closer, but it turns out they don't deliver until after 3:30. Luckily this location does, AND the driver came out in a snowstorm, came into my apartment building and all the way up to the third floor. I've eaten various Chicago deep dishes both in Ann Arbor and Chicago and I would say this is the best attempt in Ann Arbor at matching its windy city variants. The food is freshly prepared and delicious and the portions are reasonable. Docking a star because the price is definitely a bit more than I would like to spend on a pizza; however, this is definitely worth a bite if you are tired of eating Domino's and Little Caesars. read more

Based on the recommendation of my fellow foodie, MaryLiz S., I made my way over to Anthony's to give it a try. I went around noon and there was just one other person in the restaurant. My first impression was that it definitely has an old school pizza feel: modestly size and decor, checkered floor, up and close look at them making your pizza. There were three guys in the back working. The guy who appeared to be the owner or the boss took my order. Based on the Yelp reviews and because I was just grabbing a quick lunch, I decided to just try the slices. He told me they had two options: meat and veggie. Of course, I had to get one of each to get a good sampling of their pizza. I'm not huge on onions so I asked if I could get my veggie without onions. Unfortunately, I was told I could not because it was already pre-made. It wasn't a big deal because I figured I could just take them off. After I placed my order, I saw them put my slices in the large black oven. Since they were sliced that were already made, I didn't think it would take that long. Maybe it was because I was in a hurry trying to make it back to work before my lunch hour was over, but the wait seemed a little long to me. I thought the slices just had to reheated but it appeared as if they were baking it on the spot versus just reheating. I patiently waited because I had a feeling it would worth the wait. I'd much rather wait for good, quality food that get mediocre or yucky food in a hurry. Shortly after, I was told my order was ready and that my total came to $6.00 even. I paid and quickly made my way to the car. I wasn't going to wait until I got back to work. I had to taste these babies fresh and hot, in all their glory, like they were meant to be consumed....and it was love at first bite. It was piping hot and the cheese was plentiful and the pizza sauce on top was perfectly balanced, not too sweet and not too acidic. The meat was heavy on the meat which was made it very filling. The veggie was also very flavorful, I'm sure due to the spinach and the feta. And the crust, my oh my, that crust. It was just pure perfection. I'm a bread lover so the more, the merrier. It was just a glorious experience in your mouth. If I had to choose, I'd say I actually prefer the veggie over the meat. The veggie definitely was heavy on the onions and since I'm not an onion lover, I found myself constantly scraping off the onions but even still, it was pretty amazing. All in all, I'll definitely be back and am looking forward to trying a full pizza, a calzone, and maybe even a sub. Those looked pretty tasty as well. In the future, I think I'll call ahead and place my order and definitely avoid onions. I must admit though, for this to not be Chicago, they were pretty spot on with the authentic flavor. This is one of my go to places for pizza in AA, especially when I'm in the mood for Chicago deep dish pizza, but don't feel like making the 4 hour drive. For what my opinion is worth, Anthony's has pizza that is comparable if not even slightly better than what I've had from Lou Malnati's (one of most famous pizza places in Chi town). Everything from the crispy crust to the layers of tomato sauce, cheese, and "toppings" are essentially perfect (especially the amount of each ingredient, which is crucial to a deep dish pizza). You get plenty of pizza and it tastes just as good the next day. I always end up going with the Carnivore's Delight Chicago Style Stuffed Pizza, but I've been meaning to try other things on their menu such as the Island Super Star or Chicken Delight. I also recently tried the spinach and feta flatbread, which was good despite feta not being my thing. Yes, it's a bit pricey and you'll have to wait about an hour, but for what Ann Arbor offers for pizza, Anthony's is the place to go for deep dish pizza. read more

After trying so many pizza places in Ann Arbor this has got to be the best. Love the Sicilian, New York and deep dish pizza's all are excellent quality. This place can get a little pricy but you have to keep in mind the sheer amount of ingredients some of these pizzas have. It has basically become our default pizza to pick up whenever we have people over or really just dont feel like cooking. Just had deep dish pizza at Giordano's in Schaumburg, IL. Anthony's is much better than the pizza regarded as one of Chicago's best. I think the difference is the red sauce - Giordano's is slightly watery with no standout flavor whereas Anthony's is thick and pungent. read more
