Stopped here for a quick breakfast on a road trip and would definitely stop again! It was next to a motel so it took a second glance to actually realize where it was. Service was great, our server was super attentive and prompt with getting orders and delivering. Great prices and even better portions. Stopped in here for lunch on the way back from Houston. They had a great lunch buffet with BBQ Ribs & sausage, chicken fried chicken, & Salisbury steak. Sides were mashed potatoes, fried okra, corn on the cob, pinto beans and rolls. Salad bar and homemade lemon cake. Everything was very good!! read more

We were driving back to Oklahoma City from Galveston and saw 5 star reviews for Anthony's Restaurant. One of us was a little leery because the outside of the restaurant looked a little sketchy. My son in law and I had the two egg breakfast with bacon,hash browns and biscuits, all we could say was "wow" best breakfast food we've had in a long time. First of all the biscuits were to perfection, soft and were practically falling apart, the hash browns were cooked also to perfection, bacon? Right off I45 made it for an easy stop. Very clean and super friendly staff. We love it when your food comes out hot, and this was the case here. Hot gravy mmmmm. Anthony's restaurant is in the tiny town of Buffalo Texas so there wasn't a lot to choose from as far as lunchtime. It seemed to have the best reviews of the places that we found on yelp so we gave it a shot. It's a country place. Don't look for anything fancy. I have been so disappointed in the past with chicken fried steaks I have tried many places but I decided to give it a chance. I got the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, onion rings (I'm usually disappointed with these as well) and white gravy. As it turns out this was the best chicken fried steak I've had in a very long time. In terms of the crust, it wasn't your beautiful golden brown crust but it wasn't bad. The crust was crunchy and not overly seasoned with pepper. The steak was tender. They served it with the gravy (good gravy too) on the side so that I can dip it in the gravy and have each bite still be crunchy rather than having the gravy covering the steak and making the crust soggy. I was also pleasantly surprised by the onion rings I got a small order and decided to take some of them with us in a to go box along with the mashed potatoes and toast. I ate all the chicken fried steak so that was the leftovers there. If you don't mind a Countryplace with no-frills, reasonable prices, good food, and friendly staff, this is a place to go if you're ever going through Buffalo around mealtime. Also the place look pretty clean. My wife got grilled chicken and said she wants to come back to get the chicken fried steak. She ate about half of mine.
