    BLT with fried okra
    Shonda M.

This place was very good. My coworker and I stopped here for lunch while passing through and there were a decent amount of people here. It's seat yourself and, in addition to the daily special, there's a larger menu with burgers, sandwiches, Mexican food, and your typical fried Southern entrees. My coworker and I each ordered a BLT, hers with fries (you can also choose onion rings or tater tots), and mine with an upgrade of fried okra. Our server was really nice, but the food did take awhile to come out. Everything was delicious, though, and I was given a ton of okra. Payment is taken at the front counter. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but this part of the state has few options and it was a good choice. If I find myself back in the area at lunch time again, I would come back.

my family and i are taking a road trip and we're passing through marquez. we were looking for a place to have brunch and we drove by this restaurant and we decided to give it a chance. i was super skeptical because the outside of it gave a bad impression, but i still tried it. my family and i (4 of us) were the only ones in there- maybe because it's christmas eve- and the restaurant is very open so it felt awkward talking, it almost felt like we shouldn't talk. i took the safe route and just had the chicken tenders. they were good for chicken tenders, nothing crazy. the fries were very yummy, though. i couldn't stop eating them. i think i would come here again, if i ever happen to be in town. despite it's unappealing exterior, the brandin' iron cafe is a cute and simple yet tasty restaurant. i would suggest this place to someone looking for a family style restaurant!

We definitely could've shared the catfish!

We make a point to always stop by here. The food here is always good. I love their homemade peanut and pecan brittle at the register. The fried catfish isn't "fishy" tasting at all. Their coleslaw is definitely homemade and tarter sauce (I don't typically like tarter sauce) is sooo good! We always order the fried pickles and also get the okra extra crispy!

We were in Old Union this week relaxing at our lake house and were looking for somewhere new (to us) to eat. I am SO happy we stopped here. Everything was fresh and their ranch dressing is amazing. We ordered onions rings as an appetizer, plus the chicken fried chicken with fries and pinto beans, as well as the steak finger basket with fries and okra. Everything was SO good.. and while this seems like a small detail, I was most excited that their oil tasted fresh. Not sure if you've experienced old oil taste with fried food but it's nasty. We'll definitely be back!

Excellent place to eat. If you happen to be traveling in a motorhome it has plenty of room to accommodate you. We had chicken fried steak and BLT with onion rings. Very good and everyone was very friendly! Love finding places like this to eat at.

Don't let the size of the town fool you.....they have a great burger. I would put this burger up against all my favorite places.

I had the steak finger basket, husband a burger.

Fantastic burgers and catfish plates on Friday. Would be a 5 star but they tend to over cook fried foods.

Savory grits, biscuit French toast, and berries and biscuits. Unfortunately, my meal was slightly overcooked but the young man quickly made me a regular biscuit. I gave 5 stars for the service and chill environment. We may return at a later time.

We ordered and sat like everyone else. Received our food after the two groups behind us who ordered well after us got theirs. Most were Veterans so I appreciate that and would hope this was the reason. Once our food was dropped the server asked if there was anything else and I said I'd take a refill of coffee (empty). As I observed the room, the tables around us were getting really attentive service. Refills galore, conversation... I had to go to the counter to refill my coffee as I saw a server walk past our table and refill the cups at the window while ours remained empty. I got up, walked past all the servers and went to the counter where I got my first cup of coffee. After a while without anyone checking on us (again, all other tables were getting some really good 5 star service) I went to the counter to get a refill of water (empty) and a young girl who I overheard said she just graduated from high school stopped me and asked if I needed a refill. She was your bright spot. The rest of the staff just stood talking as u walked past them. It wasn't even busy. As I saw tables about to leave they were offered a cup of coffee to go. Thanked for coming in and probably would give 5 stars on a review. I made eye contact to the middle age female server and she quickly looked away. So did another young server who I saw refilling coffee. My previous review of here was 5 stars. I recommended coming here because this is our second time and my first was outstanding. Not playing the card, just the facts. We are the three Asians on the 4 top next to the booths by the kitchen entrance. Watch the entire service. I have a rule that if I really like a place I'd go back and even buy a shirt if available. I bought a shirt after my first visit but I'll holster the shirt. I'm huge on loyalty and sorry to say, this was lost. We left the cold, unwelcoming restaurant without any one of your staff saying a word. Not the type of place I'd return to. I hope this review is useful and hope this is a one off and I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. ***update*** The operations manager reviewed the video with the owner and quickly reached out to me directly. They agreed with my assessment and said they immediately addressed the issue with their staff. Doesn't change what happened but pleased to hear they care and will take corrective action when needed. They offered to refund my bill. I declined as I am just thankful they swiftly dealt with my concerns.

Today's choices were liver & onions, beef tips & rice, chicken spaghetti, collards, scalloped potatoes, corn and pinto beans. I ordered the liver & onions, scalloped potato, collards and cornbread. My husband ordered the beef tips & rice as well as the collards and pinto beans. Everything was so delicious but my favorites were the beef tips & rice and the scalloped potatoes. You get 1 entree and 2 sides with roll/cornbread for about $15. If you want a drink that is extra. If you want something other than fast food but more like what you would cook at home - try it. Everything that my husband and I had I can cook better at home. For starters, I would buy fresh mustard/turnip greens to cook and not get mine from a can. Same with the sweet potatoes. The rice was instant rice that was not cooked properly and was crunchy. When I asked for rice and gravy, the young woman serving me looked confused because there was no "gravy" selection and I had to point to the gravy with the hamburger steak- which by the way was frozen hamburger patties, not fresh hamburger meat hand shaped. So, if that sounds like good home cooking, go for it. I'll probably just stay home and cook.
