I've never been to an Anthropologie that didn't make me swoon. This particular one holds a special place in my heart not only because it is the closest to work and home, but it is massive, with three floors to help give you a little break and reevaluate everything you've piled into your arms on your way to the fitting room. I'm used to digging around for my clothes since I'm an avid Marshall's and TJ Maxx shopper, so I know to come here prepared for the long haul. Get your game face on in the sales section, ladies, and know that you might find the best things on the floor or shoved back onto shelves. Ok, so none of this is new to anyone, but here's something I discovered this weekend. I walked in with a huge Crate and Barrell box (the kind with the handle attached to the top, which is great but it doesn't make the thing any less annoying or awkward to carry around). I was there for about 2 minutes, just taking everything in and staring at things, wondering if I could actually shop with this box in my hand, when a saleswoman came up to me and offered to put the box behind the counter while I shopped. I was stunned. It literally took me a few seconds to process what she said and collect myself; of course I took her up on the offer. This completely changed my shopping experience. I have never had that happen in a store before and it made all the difference in the world. I popped in to check out the new space and I have to say that I left pretty disappointed. The Anthropologie on Boylston was a pretty cool spot that made you feel more at home, but this space was super stuffy. Like they check to make sure you have a small dog in your purse before they'll let you in. They were playing Christmas music on November 2nd (really guys?), not one sales person looked my way, and prices are as high as they always are. Oh goodness. I love the Anthropologie website and I often pop into the one in the Atrium Mall when I'm there. Having some time to kill on Newbury before a hair appointment I decided to go into this location for the first time. Chaos. Utter chaos. The lines for fitting rooms and the registers were insane. It's a huge store but its still packed with people. Loud music + lots of people does not equal a happy shopping experience for me. I'll stick to their website. anthropologie is one of those stores that u just ACHE to buy sumthing,but when you go in u only wind up browsing and gasping at the ridiculous prices! the most beautiful location i've visited is in las vegas, inside caesar's hotel...i do merchandising and OMG their store was sooooooo beautiful..it was like stepping into someone's loft and being embraced by vintage everything.. anyhow, they have really pretty dresses and shirts, etc, but even if I wanted to spulrge, i couldn't bring myself to pay 200 bucks for a summer dress when they are soo many other alternatives around...their jewelry doesn't look like anything special...(60 bucks for asian closionne bracelets??? BITCH, i'm asian, my people MADE these, and i proudly buy mines in chinatown for less than 3 bucks each!!)...it's nice to browse though...i love their soaps and home goods...u can get a prett packaged soap that smells great for about 8 bucks, expensive for soap, but nice as a gift to someone...(i got one from a co-worker and i spent countless hrs starin at the vintage wallpaper wrapping and ribbon)... the sale section is not all that great, if u want a better one, try the one in chesnut hill in the atrium mall, they have a huge one and you can actually find things until 20 bucks there! i think i have some fetish with dressing rooms, but I find their d. room very relaxing and almost zen...i like that it's in the back corner and it feels like a mini boutique area with nice lighting and views of boston! my suggestion: grab a copy of their current catalogue (don't worry it's free) and look in their for inspiration...their ad campaigns are amazing... read more

i used to get lost in the three story monstrosity that is the 5th ave store in NYC almost once a month. and for some reason, every time I went to philly, I ended up here. so it kind of surprised me that last night was the first time i had been to the Boston store (although I DID stand outside of it during the 2003 marathon). i usually skip the clothes because they don't fit my body type, are insanely overpriced and don't suit my style. once in a while, i will find a dress or skirt that i LOVE, but i usually stick to housewares and jewelry. they had a decent selection here. i like their dinnerware, mugs and glasses. i found some cute footed bowls for my mother in law and some funky coasters for a co-worker. the prices in the housewares section is not that bad. It's no target, but you get classy items for a reasonable price. i am def coming here after bonus time to spruce up our crate and barrel dining snowstorm (white bowls, plates, fine china, and servers - yawn). read more

Its a well known fact that I'm a huge Anthropologie lover amongst family and friends (and random strangers who witness me shopping in their stores). So when my friend asked if I would mind dropping into this location in Boston, I stared at her until she realized what a silly question that was. So, this is clearly their large Boston store (although I have been in bigger ones) since they had a ton of stock out on their two floors. We flitted from rack to rack, chatting as we loaded up our arms with garments. She was looking for a dress; I was having way too much fun just trying things on (and obviously brought more items to my dressing room than she did!). But what I really loved about this location was the fact that, upon finally entering the changing area due to a massive line, I came upon their new service: the personal shopper!! I have always wanted Anthropologie to offer this service since Free People already does, and now my wish is answered! She was fabulous - very nice and friendly, and she chatted up all the girls in the line while also helping out customers already trying things on, giving advice on how to wear items and giving a heads up if certain items ran smaller or larger. Awesome!! Its wonderful to finally have access to that kind of service, especially at Anthropologie, where all their pieces are covetable and can be mixed and matched with so many things in the store, but because the designs are so different it can be hard to figure out what to pair that semi-shear blouse with. I can't wait to really take advantage of these new personal shoppers! read more

This location is great. I find that the Atrium Mall location doesn't have as much of a selection as the Newbury Street location. The Atrium Mall store is kind of messy and picked over. I like the Newbury store because it's neat and organized, and there's two floors full of fashionable goodness. Great place to stop in on a walk down Newbury! read more

I'd buy clothes from the non-sale section if I had the money; for now the sales rack will do. The workers here are also very friendly. Many of the cuts for tops do not work on me for some reason (too big or just looks funny on), so I usually have to try on 10 different items before finding one that fits. Bottoms tend to fit well. ugh, i like anthro more than I want to admit. and mostly, all of the stores are the same. hence, my review is pretty much all about service. wait, what service? I have literally never had a salesperson help me before getting to the dressing room. aside from the obligatory hello at the entrance, they act as if you don't exist. the concept of working around customers seems completely foreign. I've been bumped into by salesgirls carrying armloads of clothes multiple times. they need to be more polite (or wait) if they need to hang something where you're looking-- say something, don't just reach around me! service at the register can be painfully slow. even if there is one complicated order that takes 15 minutes and they see you have one item, they don't bother to call up more help to the desk to get you on your way. the one exception is the personal shopper. she is very pleasant, professional, and kind. read more

I always find something at this store- a necklace, some dresses on sale, or 9-11 items that I find myself with in the dressing room, counting on some not working out, and then being pleased or relieved when I emerge with only 4-6 items, or I would break the bank. The dressing room usually has a line, but it moves along, and I don't feel rushed when I am trying on items. I like that I can find cute, quirky pieces here, and the store is beautiful. read more

What happened?!?! I've always enjoyed anthropologie's aesthetics and their clever use of space. Prices aside, part of the shopping experience is going into the store and seeing their unique use of a space. Taking over an old American Eagle on Newbury st does not count as imaginative and is certainly not conducive to shopping when you're weaving between tightly packed racks and poorly placed displays (anyone over 5' 10", beware of lanterns in the basement). I'm disappointed in you anthro. As a Philly girl who loves to see her hometown store represent, this location is sadly a dud. I absolutely love this store. That said, like many others, I cannot afford any of the clothing....at regular price. Beautiful, yes, but just way too expensive. The clearance section, at first glance, doesn't seem that hopeful, but I've gotten some amazing deals. You just have to know a few things: -Don't go on the weekend! Try for a weekday morning/ early afternoon in t he beginning of the week -If you see something you like, but it's not in your size, grab it anyways. This store has a huge back stock in their basement. If you are willing to wait for a little bit and they aren't that busy, someone in the dressing room will go and look for your size. I once pulled a size zero dress from the clearance rack (the only one) and someone went to the basement and came back with a size 2, 4, and 6! It was definitely worth the time and I got a $150 dress for $30. -The store has an in-house personal shopper. I forgot her name, but she's probably in her 50s, and she's very classy. I think you can ask for her if she's in the dressing room, but she hands out some great style advice. If she's not busy, she's a great person to ask about finding something because she knows the store like the back of her hand. On the first floor they have really cute kitchen products, and everything has a very vintage/ flea market feel to it. For the past two years they have had really cute mugs with a monogram letter on the front for $6 around the holidays--these make great gifts! read more

The sale room is a little small-ish compared to other Anthro stores, but it's very organized. It's owned by Urban Outfitters blah blah blah whatever. Unlike Urban their clothes are very high quality. And they're gorgeous, every time I wear something from there people always ask about it. They have some great brands including Manoush and a special Anna Sui line. The sale rack is a godsend to anyone who wants to look fabulous while only spending moderate amounts of cash. I got a Plenty top for only $49. The home goods are excellent and they have wonderful perfume and books. Here's the best part though, you can return anything at any time for any reason as long as you have a) your receipt or b) the Anthro card. (Get it, it's free!) read more

I've shopped at Anthropologie for over 10 years and have always thought that they have a fun, but expensive selection of clothes. Recently, I visited the store on Newbury with a baby stroller. The main entrance is up a flight of stairs. While there was a ramp to a side entrance with an elevator, the door to get into the room with the elevator was locked. My friend and I disassembled the stroller and carried it up the stairs. When I inquired inside about the door being locked, I was told that people usually just run up and signal for the elevator door to be unlocked. While this is perfectly adequate for people with strollers, I think that Anthropologie is missing the point here. Individuals with physical disabilities cannot run up the stairs to signal that they need the elevator. I'm disappointed in the fact that Anthropologie has a handicap accessible building that they actively choose to make inaccessible. read more

I have to give Anthropolgie 5 Stars based on my recent excperience with their personal shopper, Jeanne Mooney. In a word, Jeanne is amazing! I don't typically love shopping, and I can easily get overwhelmed in a store like Anthropologie. But, Jeanne took the stress out and made shopping for some new summer outfits fun (and successful!). I emailed Jeanne in advance with ideas on what I was looking for and some information about my own body & style. When I showed up for our appointment, she had a dressing room stocked with potential outfits for me. I never left the room (for almost 2 hours) while she personally gave advice, exchanged sizes and helped me put together some beautiful outfits. She picked out items I would never have seen/found, and had style advice that I found really helpful. She is just a joy, and a real bonus for this store location. There is no fee for her service. Jeanne, I'll be back! Prices for Anthro can be high, but I love that the clothes are really unique and stylish without being so trendy that I won't get several years of wear from them. i could live here. the housewares section makes me drool, for you find very unique stuff, that won't be in everyone else's home (as opposed to say ikea, pottery barn or crate and barrell). the clothes are funky and fun, but a bit overpriced for me...right now. what i really love are the little accent pieces and "fun" stuff like sunglasses, barrettes, notebooks, etc. just those little touches that can set you apart, even if your clothes are from the gap... fun to just wander around and explore. read more
