I love Anthropologie in theory. Their mix of carefully curated pieces with mass-produced funky/pretty items is very captivating and I find myself spending a ton of time walking around the store looking at things. Today I saw the most amazing canopy bed made of what looked like regular old plumbing pipe, of course dressed to the hilt in frilly, pretty bed linens. So why do I rarely buy anything at Anthropologie? I'm not afraid to spend a few dollars now and then when I see something I like. Partially I think it's because I have to rush out the door when I get overwhelmed by the candle smells. And I would definitely buy clothes there if they carried plus sizes. But mostly I think the store itself is more lovely than any one thing in it. I do find cute things for the home from time to time, though. read more

Anthropologie is one of my favourite stores at University Village. They carry women's clothing and accessories, housewares, décor, toiletries, books, and more... I think of them as more of a curated lifestyle store than a clothing store. Their clothes and bedroom textiles are always very whimsical, bright, fun, and unique. I purchased one of my favourite tops from here, and I have never seen anything else like it in my entire life. It can be hit or miss... some days I want half the store and some days I can't find anything at all. Sometimes the price is so good I feel like I'm getting away with something, but sometimes I feel like a sucker for paying that much for a dress, candle, cardigan, pillow case, etc. Customer service is always great. They even have stylists that will help do a wardrobe makeover for you! Unfortunately, the line to pay can get ridiculous, so don't come here with a full bladder or you'll be sorry. There is free covered and surface lot parking available at University Village. If you haven't been, I highly recommend you check them out! read more

This store is one of my guilty pleasures. I rarely buy anything, it is too damn spendy! However, I enjoy the experience. It feels like a splurge just to go in there. The boho style gets me every single time. I love it for clothing & home. This place has both in one store! At some point I will be able to do more than window shop here. I heart anthro . . . why did my friend ever introduce me?! Everything they have is so cute although pricey. Their sale section can get over crowded and messy due to its proximity to UW. Once a year they do have a huge sidewalk sale (which just concluded this weekend) and so I always swoop in and grab some goodies! Today I got a summer dress for $20 and a nautica blazer for $10 - crazy cheap for anthro!! read more

If I had the money, I would buy so many things from here...but the prices deter me. It s a large store with lots of things to look at, but I usually end up browsing rather than buying b/c being the poor grad student that I am, $149 for a casual dress just isn't plausible. Also, service seems to be a bit lacking, the last time we were here, not one staff said hi or asked if they could help us. No biggie as I like to browse on my own. Overall, a-okay, and if I had the means, I would purchase things from here, but you can find similar things for much cheaper elsewhere. read more

Something about me wants to dislike this store...but I can't. I actually like it. I usually just browse the regular priced section before heading to the back to scavenge the sales racks. I've found a lot of cute stuff there for really reasonable prices ($40 for a super cute skirt...). I don't have any complaints about the sales people since I don't ask random strangers whether or not clothes look good on me and I don't pay attention to unsolicited comments. Doing so would be, in a word, idiotic. Of course they'll tell you everything looks good...it's called retail, darling. It is really similar to the one downtown but I like honestly think this one is a little friendlier, more relaxed, less pretentious. I'm definitely more tempted to go to this branch than the one downtown when I'm desperately in need of some retail therapy. read more

I have finally found my new favorite store! Only - because this is a chain - I won't be visiting this location again and will be seen at the downtown Anthro instead. This is mainly due to the employees and there too-hipster appeal that they can't even have good customer service! I guess this is what you're supposed to expect when they hire mostly college students who don't have any experience?! I didn't even get a hello until I went to try on some clothes! However I love the store as a whole because their clothes are actually very stylish, affordable (especially on the sale rack), and the fit is great! You know how you get those silly email forwards that are like: Fill out this list about yourself and forward it to all your friends!" Well, when I choose to fill them out- about 1 in 3 has this question: "If you could max out your credit card at any one store, what store would it be?" My answer? Anthropologie (Anthro to those in the know/former employees, which I am). I first fell in love with Anthro back in high school when my mom and I would make the trek from small town Port Orchard to the big city and stop in UVillage. The clothes were so pretty and there were so many of them! Yes, they were expensive, so I would maybe get a shirt, but it was definitely on sale. Then I started school at UW, and during my sophomore year, I got a job at Anthro. The upside: work with pretty clothes and get a discount. The downside: I was one of the few that was working part-time to support my LIFE instead of my shopping habit. Therefore, when all my coworkers blew 3/4 of their paychecks buying new clothes, I had to be a tightwad and only bought things during the rare times when we got discounts on sale items. But, every item that I have ever bought from Anthro is still hanging in my closet, and I still love it. In fact, as I write this, I'm wearing my watch that I bought there over 3 years ago. Anthro is a great, beautiful store that I love, and would be a five-star review if it wasn't so freaking expensive! read more

I like the clothes here - even if many are hit and miss for me. They have so much inventory though, and I can usually find basics throughout the year (t-shirts, jeans, jackets, and the occasional dress). This store is often crowded, but I know when to come here so I don't deal with crowds (don't come on the weekend!) Some of the clothing is high quality, but some is not. When I've bought an item that gets a hole in it after only a few wears, they always take it back with no questions asked. read more

I love this Anthropolgie. They have the best stock of items when they do sales. I love the giant bright fitting rooms and their staff is always so friendly. I do recommend going to the downtown Seattle location though if your looking for dresses (wedding guest dresses, event dresses) as they seem to have a bigger selection upstairs. However, the U Village one seems to have more home goods, etc. read more

My friend is an Anthropologie lover through and through. It has surfaced in many of our conversations but I had never been there. I figured it to be high end clothing which of course would be expensive. I shop at thrift stores therefore this place obviously was not for me. One Sunday we needed to do some retail therapy and I found myself walking through the heavy wooden double doors of Anthropologie and found why this is heaven. This store is decorated as if you're outside under a canopy. There are lots of windows and it feels airy with lots of natural light. The color scheme is very earth tone based and you just know their mission statement boasts about working to protect the environment. Unbeknownst to me Anthropologie sold more than clothing. There are house and bed wares to satisfy the chicest of people. My house looks like a bachelor pad. Its sparse and purposely so. If I gave a damn about my house looking presentable, I would buy decorations from here. The clothes are cute. So cute. I wish I could be more articulate but that is what they are. Plenty of colors and patterns and embroidery. I was in awe then my friend mentioned the price of a top we both admired. You have got to be kidding me! It is legal for them to charge so much for a strapless top?! I continued to browse, loving every item I saw, but remembering that if I bought something at full price my heart would explode. The sale rack beckoned and I found a cute romper that was still a bit pricy in my mind but damn it would make my day a little brighter. Went to the dressing room and the associate there was gregarious and helpful. She told my friend and I to let us know if we needed a different size or anything else. She then came back later to see if we were doing okay. The romper was terribly cute but I found the boning was sticking out. A minor repair that I was capable of but I wondered if I could get a discount. I figure I wouldn't and if I did it would be something measly like 10%. I go up to the counter and the woman was incredibly friendly and nice. I told her about my problem. She was genuinely concerned and said I could get a discount but needed to call her manager to see how much it would be. The manager came and the associate explained the situation. The manager expressed just as much concern, apologized, then gave me 35% off. My jaw dropped. Did that really just happen?! Dang. I like this place! Of course Anthropologie has incredible clothes and trendy housewares but it gets four stars due to the customer service. Its been a very long time since I've been treated that well in an establishment plus they gave me 35% off! Holler. read more

I need to share about a wonderful experience I had at this location yesterday. I live out of town and often purchase items online and then return in store what I do not want to keep. I had saved up quite a lot of items and I went into the store with multiple boxes of merchandise to return. I was expecting some rolled eyes and weird looks for all of the extra work I was gong to need to return everything. What I got instead was the absolute warmest welcome possible. Taylor and Shannon helped me do all of my returns with the kindest smiles and open heart. This is the reason I love this store. Its all about love. Spent 20 minutes pouring through the sale rack of knobs and hooks, where a decent-sized 50% off sign sat. Went to the register and was rung up at only 25% off. When I questioned it, two salespeople said that hardware was only 25% off, despite the sign. This impulse purchase wasn't worth it, so I left with nothing and will not return. read more

The clothes are the saving grace of this store for me and the sole reason why I give it three stars. I love the jeans they carry (Joe's and Paper Denim Cloth are still fitting me, luckily) and they usually have a good pair of casual work pants as well as interview appropriate clothing. However, it all does strike a distinctly Country-Club, sorority-girl note especially in the spring when all the pastels attack. I have now managed to actually find items to purchase on my last four trips to Anthropologie and have almost been driven away (or driven to killing) by the sales staff, which seems to employ the type of person who would live in the entire store's clothing without having to purchase elsewhere. It takes all of my self-control not to walk out pretty much every time I get to the register. This is partially sticker shock (though they definitely aren't terribly pricey; just somewhat pricey for the quality of certain items) and partially because no one wants to wait in line forever when there are two sales people, but only one doing the ringing up of a huge line while the other checks things on a list (this was at 4pm, not near closing) or there's no one at the register. Unfortunately, my experience today brought all of my good times here to a close. After finding the pants that I had coveted online and locating them in every size except for the one I wanted, I requested the next available size down in the pants and a shirt I was trying on. They had not been terribly busy when I asked because they were all talking to each other (I stood and waited for a break in the conversation because I had no "helper"/sales associate assigned to me) and two of the girls remained after the floor manager left to go find my pants. Now the kicker is that I had seen the pants in the size I requested and that's why I was asking for them, but I just waited instead of listening to my gut and going to find them myself. Tried on the other five pairs of pants I had brought in and looked at the pants I chose again, but no sales associate had returned. After walking around the little room for a few minutes and staring out the slats in the louvered door, someone came with the shirt, but upon asking where the pants were, she told me that they were looking in the back for the size. Obviously, a bit annoyed, so I told her that they were on the floor and I had found them before I went into the dressing room (with more than one of that size). She said that they would look again. After waiting another five minutes with no updates, I walked out onto the floor, walked over to the rack with the pants, pulled off the size I requested (noted the other two of the same size right next to it) and walked over to get a different shirt... only to run into the manager. I could've spit nails when she said that she just couldn't find those pants I wanted and had been looking in the back. Unfortunately, my seething boiled over and I informed that I had to go get them myself and had found two others of the same size, so I doubted that she was in the back. She then lamely told me that she was doing something else. I know that this is a business and you have things you need to do, but no customer should have to go out and find the items that you, as a sales person, are supposed to be getting. Particularly because it was the manager and when I found her, she was folding shirts at the front and talking to a new customer. I wonder if I had just stayed in the dressing room if they would've ever come with the pants. Went back into the dressing room, looked at the pants again. Chose the original size I had brought in (which made this experience even worse), walked up to the register, thought about it, and put the pants back. You know, I don't want someone to get a commission for not helping customers. Anthropologie could do well to learn from their counterparts in the Village, particularly due to their proximity to the very friendly and helpful Lucky. But hey, Anthropologie's online store gives you a little pink birdie when its loading a new page. That's pretty cool. Hope the web designer gets my clothing commission instead since I ended up buying the pants online. read more

I have had the unfortunate event of LOVING this store for years now. I have bought things despite being treated horribly just because I loved them. However once I had children and was still carrying a few extra pounds I was treated like garbage by the sales reps. I stopped shopping there. I really was not interested in being scrutinized by women and treated like a second rate citizen because I had a child and chose to be healthy enough to feed her. I went I this store last night because I had ordered what I can only describe as a potato sack online. I was told for thirty minutes that I made it up, the order was not in the computer , what did I do to the dress exc. Mind you I obviously had the dress. I had the original packaging, all receipts and everything. She then refused to process it in any way except putting it back on my visa. I am done with anthropologie and the disgusting treatment of those who keep your doors open. read more

Definitely save up before you go here. And don't get too caught up in all the gorgeousness that surrounds you. They have the most elegant and classical touches for your wardrobe in a new, unique style. I like that their clothes say more about a person than just their silhouette. The home decor stuff is where I get crazy, though. There's good deals in the back and you can usually find a cute piece that won't blow your budget. i love love love this store. i go in once a week and can always find at least one amazing sale find. just last week i found an amazing skirt for only $30 originally about $80. you just have to look and keep going in. plus the whole anthro experience keeps me addicted! the u-village store in particular is really open and the employees always are honest if i ask them their opinion on something that i choose and if i ask them for advice and to help me put together an outfit they most certainly will. love this store. read more

Love this store. Have always loved this store. Will probably always love it too. The product is amazing and just walking into the store makes you feel like you are walking into a story. And I guess that is how it is set up too. One of the sales associates told me they invent a person and merchandise around her. They even give her a background story! So cute. Love the staff, they are always so helpful! And it is refreshing to know that they aren't paid on commission so I don't feel like they are lying to me if they say something looks good! Once I tried on a dress and showed the associate and she politely told me that they could probably find something to suite me better... and they did! U Village Anthropologie is their best store that I've seen. They have so much more than the store in Bellevue. There's so much fun stuff, I have to look through 2 or 3 times to not miss things. The sale room in the back is great. Some of the clothes are poorly made and don't last, and yet others are well-made and last, but guess you could say they are all fun! It always seems to me the pants and tops are great and the jackets and skirts are too weird-fitting to wear. Maybe they could someday make some normal a-line or pencil skirts? As long as short pants are in, I being short, can buy jeans that don't need hemming, and I can find some cool tops here. If you need something imaginative to wear, come here to find it. I am so awed by their catalogs, like the recent one with a lady in the hammock hanging over a small pool in an indoor/outdoor Mexican garden probably in Baja. I'm glad I registered. read more

I impulsively bought a ridiculously expensive shower curtain on Anthropology.com (it had a glorious gold sailboat on it, go ahead and judge). After waiting for what seemed like way too long for my purchase to arrive, I opened the package to discover the wrong curtain had been shipped. (it was strangely from urban outfitters had a gold octopus on it, close, but not quite what I ordered) In the throws of my first-world disappointment, I decided to see if I could return it in the store rather than dealing with the mail-in exchange process. I was pleasantly surprised to find the staff incredibly helpful in rectifying this! A cashier AND a manager wound up jumping in to help. They took the time to call their warehouse, actually find out the reason for the mix up, get a new one ordered and expedited, AND they gave me a discount for my trouble! I actually expected to be sent away to handle this at Urban Outfitters or something. I certainly didn't expect them to actually CARE about the mix up. Thank you for your help! read more
