Had such a nice dining experience here. I don't normally find myself in Mukwonago, so I took the opportunity to check out their food scene while there for a doctor's appt. Went around 11 am and was legitimately the only customer there which was great due to the attentive service and short wait. Wish I could be the only one in restaurants more often. I felt transported back to my volunteer abroad in Antigua, Guatemala with the ambiance, Spanish music and superb food. The waiter seated me in a prime booth next to the beautiful waterfall wall. Complimentary chips and salsa- chips came out warm, would have liked more salt. Salsa tasted like any other. Horchata- creamy, cinnamon-y goodness. Better than most I've tried Guava juice- I've taken a recent liking to guavas so was happy to see this on the menu. It was slightly creamy and bubbly with a subtle, natural guava flavor. Very refreshing. Roasted Egglplant soup- unlike anything I've really had. It wasn't liquidy at all like soup. More like a really, really thick stew. Had big chunks of eggplant that still had a little crunch to it in a chile sauce. Looked like vomit, tasted delish. Tamales calientes w/ side of guac- pork tamales topped w/ pico, sour cream and cheese served over potatoes. Came served on a sizzling skillet. It was so hot that it fogged up my camera lens when I was trying to take a pic #foodieproblemz You have a choice between spicy verde or a milder red sauce. Went with the spicy which had a nice kick. The potatoes were seasoned well. The food is so fresh and flavorful. Was happy to have my own little Latin American oasis for lunch :) read more

My family and I went here three times and yes I know, after the second time...you would think we'd have learned our lesson. The first time, we didn't think it was the restaurant itself, second time around...immediately after, everyone was going watery #2. The third was giving the restaurant the benefit of a doubt. The first time we went we were immediately told they had a party of 30 coming in and we needed to order fast. We visited again a week later and when the owner said there would be a 5 or 10 minute wait, (only 3 cars in parking lot), all my husband said was "come on let's go." I told him that wasn't bad so we decided to stay. We didn't say anything else. I went to the restroom and when I came out my husband said the owner came out and said we were rude and he wouldn't serve us. He also told my husband he needed to look at him when he was talking and said, I am the owner of this restaurant. This man (owner) actually was the one who was rude twice to us. Never will we go there again. If he thinks my husband was rude by saying let's go, he will not survive owning this restaurant. read more

This place is going down hill, I used to rave about the food and their service....sadly that is not the case any longer. I'm not sure if ownership changed or what but the last couple times (like 5) there have been multiple problems....rude service, smaller portions, wrong items in a to-go order, long wait with nobody in the parking lot. Our first visit to Antigua Real, and we were not disappointed! We came for a late Saturday morning breakfast, arriving about 10:40 am. There were not many diners in the restaurant. This place is a hidden gem in Mukwonago, because the meal we had was delicious! I ordered the Machaca ($8), a mountain of fried flour tortillas stacked with savory shredded beef, scrambled eggs, cheese and avocado, with pico de gallo & ranchera sauce topping it off. It was crunchy and very yummy. It comes with plantains, but I substituted the la plancha potatoes. The portion was very generous. I'd order this again, no hesitation! My husband ordered the Enchiladas Riojanas, which is two chorizo and potato enchiladas covered with ranchera sauce and pico de gallo. It is served with two eggs of your choice, black beans, cheese, and soft cream. He really enjoyed his selection also! We like the atmosphere here...the dining areas are separated by walls and arched openings, keeping the feeling intimate with Mexican decor and background music. We'll be back! Stopped in for a quick lunch between customer visits. I quickly grabbed a seat a the bar which was clean and had a nice view of Latin decor and various tequilas. The dining area adjacent to the small bar was bustling and noisy. I was quickly brought chips and salsa. The chips were light and crisp with a good amount of salt. The salsa which is a good indicator to the coming meal was medium spiciness, smooth texture, and tastes fresh. I opted for the Poblanos which was a mole enchilada. It came with standard beans which were creamy and good. The enchilada itself was medium to mild spice which good flavor and great texture, only criticism would be the mole. Nothing a mole should have stood out. None of the spices or cocoa or peanuts I craved. The food was still very good and boy was it quick. Almost too quick if you know what I mean. We stopped here after spending the day at Old World Wisconsin. I was a little hesitant to write a review because after spending five hours hiking, pond water and tree bark would have tasted good to me. ;-) However, hiking merely made us appreciate a good meal all the more -- and we had a very nice meal here. Plus, service was very prompt and our server very knowledgeable about their menu and drink options. Speaking of drinks, they have New Glarus Spotted Cow on tap. It's a favorite of my son and I'd never had it. It was delish! Finally, be sure to check out their extensive selection of specialty coffee drinks. It's pretty exceptional, with a lot of easily comparable to what you'd find in a Starbucks. Plus, they have a couple of options that you would not find elsewhere -- like "Café con Miel" -- which is espresso, milk & honey. read more

Bought a deal online for Antigua Real because I'm always up for trying a new place. It was a Saturday night and it was not very crowded, made me a little leary. Inside we were greeted by a hostess and taken right to a table. The decor was pretty nice, really liked the waterfall wall. Booths are cozy and each one has a coat rack which is nice. Menu selection is adequate. Not a lot to choose from but enough to make a decision quickly. Our waitress could have used some skills in being a people person, she mumbled and would walk away before you could finish your sentence. Food came, it was hot. It was ok, just ok. I had fajitas, have had better at many other places. Hubby had a combo platter, everything tasted the same. Overall, it was somewhere new with a deal and we tried it. I wouldn't say I would never go back but I would not make the drive to just go there. Food was ok, service was meh, ok, place was nice. read more

I wish I would've discovered this place sooner! Wonderful atmosphere, quick and friendly service, awesome margaritas, and outstanding Latin American food. My wife and I are avid Mexican food lovers. We arrived on a Saturday evening at 6:30 and were seated immediately. We were greeted with a warm basket of chips and an outstanding red salsa. If you like things spicy, ask for the verde salsa. Being 1st timers to Antigua Real, we needed extra time to study the menu which is extensive with a wide variety of choices. You will certainly be satisfied with your dining experience. Went back there for dinner Saturday night, have been there years ago, must have forgot why we haven't been back. I ordered one of their classics which was some cheese and chopped tomatoes with two tablespoons of chopped chicken on top of some Spanish rice. The menu said it was supposed to be with creamy jalepeno sauce which was not found. There was some chopped jalepenos with the chopped tomatoes but it was very bland and tasteless not worth $13.75. My wife ordered a burrito which she said was prettty tasteless also. We also ordered two marquaritas which were lime juice with triple sec, no taste of tequila at all. read more

Yep- this is a good one! It's hard to find original dishes at most Mexican restaurants. (No offense!) This place includes a number of Spanish and Central American-influenced dishes, which I found interesting. If you travel through WI in business, I would recommend the stop! read more

Was brought here by some local friends. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. We called ahead because we had a large group, and a table was waiting for us when we arrived. There is a good selection to choose from, and the selections include more regions than just Mexican. Our friends told us it was more of a "Latin" cuisine than Mexican. In addition to the other varieties of foods, there were even plantains as a possible side dish. They offered a lunch portion for each meal listed. My meal was very flavorful. I had a chimichanga, covered in a jalapeno cream sauce and chorizo, in addition to many other flavors. The grilled veggies were so fresh and tasty too... My daughter enjoyed her taquitos. My sons both had the Sopa de Camaron (Shrimp soup), and only the tomato lover really loved his soup. It was not particularly "soupy"... it had a LOT of chunks of tomatoes in lieu of the tomato-based soup. My youngest had the appetizer quesadillas, which were more than enough to suffice as a meal for him... add it to the soup, and he was unable to finish. My husband a dish with mole sauce, which included chocolate, cinnamon, and pumpkin flavors. He enjoyed it. The margaritas were good... not the best I've ever had, but still a pretty decent margarita. If I lived in the area, I would likely return to sample some more of the dishes. read more

We had a groupon she did not want to Accept it. We asked to speak to manager. She said sure then came back 10 min later claiming the manager was too busy and she would do it. Another Antigua in the Milwaukee region... and another thumbs-up! As far as I know, the owners of the two restaurants are not related or affiliated, and yet somehow the style conveyed is similar. Antigua Real has built a fascinating space with an art gallery aspect to it (I really enjoyed sitting by the waterfall near the booths--which have a pergola "ceiling" below a deep blue-purple ceiling that intimates the night sky). There's even a small gift shop near the entry that sells local handicrafts from Central America. The interesting twist on these guys' menu is that it feels typical-American-expectation friendly... They don't include the refried beans that EVERY other Mexican/Latin American restaurant gives you; instead you get tasty fire-roasted vegetables like zucchini, squash, and peppers. And while their rice is a pilaf of some kind, it is spiced slightly differently from such creations of my previous experience. I had a fantastic adobado pork dish with a nice compliment of roasted pineapple to give you a contrast to the spices on the pork. And the horchata was creamy and delicious, while our standard barometer of performance, the flan, exceeded expectations with the abundant caramel sauce underlying the custard... and the surrounding swirls of whipped cream. For the price, these guys are definitely worth an evening's expedition. They offer a fully stocked bar, and while the waitresses were very suburban high-school youths, we were well taken care of even while we didn't really expect much out of the experience. Third time NOT a charm. Our group of 8 went here on a Friday night. It was half empty in there yet they jammed us at s tiny table made for maybe 6 way in the back where we could see in the kitchen. The hostess said they'd get us another chair. They never came back with a chair or waitress! We had to get our own chair and waitress after 20 minutes of staff passing by us going into the kitchen- and literally lifting trays over our head. Once we grabbed our waitress- who was not supposed to be ours, she was great. However, food took easily half hour to get to us- I had fajitas- taste was fine but way too little food for 13.00. We stayed longer after eating to talk- at some point there was a horrible boiled egg or sulfur smell coming from the kitchen that forced us out. Wow - I have being going to this restaurant with my group of friends for years, but have been splitting bill so I guess I never realized the hidden upcharges till I went with my daughter and grandson. So - kid's menu includes a side, and although not noted on menu, it is $3.50 extra. Seriously, the fruit side was a couple pieces of apple and two oranges slices. So not worth $3.50. Then, fajitas include three 6" shells (not enough, but most restaurants just supplement as needed). So - I asked if I could have a couple more (like we always do). "Sure" says the waitress. Then the bill reflected $1.75 for the two 6" shells. Guess we've been paying this for years! The quality of food just is not worth the hidden costs. We haved eaten her several times my favorite is still the tamarind pork. It's fantastic served in a cast iron skillet.
