I attended Top Gun with my boyfriend this past Saturday night 6//11/22. There are only 27 seats in this quaint theatre. The tickets were only $5 which was reasonable. The concession prices made up for the cheap seats. I paid $16.50 for a medium popcorn and 2 medium sodas. I only paid $10 for us to see the movie. The theatre was incredibly uncomfortable as if the heat were on. It was about 72 degrees outside and felt like 90 degrees inside watching the movie. I definitely would have paid more $$$$ for my ticket if it meant the theatre had air conditioning. I like the town of Antioch it's a cute town. I was even excited that this little theatre was showing Top Gun Maverick since it had recently came out. Next time I'll wear short sleeves with shorts not jeans if it's warm outside. read more

In the old days we had one movie theater with one movie and we loved it. And when the movie was done it left forever and a new movie came in. This theater is like the old days. One screen and one movie...if you do not like the movie, then you might have to wait a few weeks for a new one. I really love the old days and the simple times of what the Antioch Theatre offers. Early bird tickets are only 4 bucks. That is an incredible deal and honestly you can not find a better deal anywhere. This theatre also has a balcony too. I have not watched a movie from up here because this seems to be where the teenagers go and I am sure they are not watching the movie, so I better stick to the main level. I have explained to my little one that most theaters I went to as a kid had balconies. She thinks that is cool. I am sure she will want to sit up there with a boy but I am going to cross that bridge when I get to it. One of the coolest thing that this theater does is free refills on soda and popcorn but that is not the cool part. They actually will come down the aisle during the movie and check to see if you need more, then they will go and fill it up for you. Are you kidding me? Who does that? The staff is also super nice. The worker behind the counter takes your money for tickets and can also fill your popcorn or soda request. What I really love is the old school tickets. The tickets are actual tickets like you would see at a raffle but this is how tickets use to look when I was a kid. There was no printing on them with the name of the movie or the theater number. I also love that they have the old school ticket machine which spits out the tickets. I must be the old one in our group because no one else remembers those. Man am I getting old. The workers will also do some trivia before the movie starts and you have a chance to win prizes. They also run a contest on Facebook to win tickets. I always seem to be late to the party and I have never won, even though I typically know the correct answer. One of these days I am going to win...I hope!!! So if you are looking for an old movie feel and what to go back in time when movie theatres still had charm, then this is the place. The prices are super low and the staff is really friendly. There is also plenty of parking around with spots in front of the theatre with a two hour time limit and spots behind the chamber of commerce that have a 6 hour time limit. So depending on how long the movie is you can park accordingly. read more

What a great movie theatre! It carries the feel of your basic small town movie theatre - kind of reminds me of something out of an old 60 or 70's movie where the kids would go see a show. Prices here are beyiond reasonable - and free refills on the popcorn and drinks AT YOUR SEAT can't be beat. Staff here is usually upbeat and friendly - my parents were leaving recently with my niece when they saw the last show of the night, and she asked at the counter if she could have one last refill of popcorn, they asked her "Do you want a little bit of popcorn, or a lot?" Of course she opted for the second choice, and what did they do? They gave her ALL the left over popcorn in a giant Hefty garbage bag! This theater is one of the more historic buildings of Antioch. Located just off of Main Street, it's sign and marquee are instant eye catchers. Now, in the many times I have visited the theater, I have always been greeted with a friendly "hello!" by the people at the front counter. The main lobby and theater has always been very clean, and all the counters and posters have always looked presentable. The theater itself is quite nice. The chairs are comfortable and nicely spaced from each other. I also find the screen and sound systems to be more than adequate for the building it is in. (No, it's not a multiplex with cutting edge sound equipment and the best movie screen money can buy, but it still looks and sounds perfectly fine.) However, as much as I love this theater, it does have one negative about it. The popcorn. The last few times I have been here and purchased popcorn, I always leave feeling sick afterwords. Sometimes, it's even been stale. Now, I just avoid the concessions completely. Overall, a nice theater where you can watch a movie for a decent price and be treated equally as well. I'm actually a little suprised with the amount of good reviews for this theater. I will give it that it is one of the only reasonably priced movie theaters in the area. That being said, the popcorn is disgusting, you stick to the floor as you walk through, I don't even want to know what the smell is and I'm certain that the seats have never been cleaned in all the years that it has been open. Also, whenever they have midnight showings, the only concessions that you can get are candy. On a good note, they have contests where you can win tickets or candy at the midnight showings and they have contests on their Facebook page as well. This was probably my favorite field trip! We were able to have a special showing with unlimited popcorn and soda in the morning. The theatre was super clean and the safe was so accommodating to my students with autism. They adjusted the volume for us and allowed them to practice their ordering skills and money counting skills. Their process was so reasonable, I know I will be back with my husband later. read more

For years I wasted money on other movie theaters, then I stumbled upon this one during an afternoon date with my fiance. I love this movie theater. The prices are great. And before every movie they do a trivia thing and give out small prizes. And during the movie the staff comes to you in the theater to see if you need any refills on concessions. Please note that they do not go to the balcony to see if you need refills. I've sat in the balcony a few times before and they have never come up there. But I still love this place. read more

I understand this is a local, historical business and all... But I did not enjoy my experience here whatsoever. Went and saw Star Wars on Christmas Day with my family. The sound was awful, and the screen was tiny in my opinion. If you're looking for good prices, and friendly staff, this is the place to go. It's all about expectations. If you want super comfy chairs and awesome sound and picture this is not the place for you, drive to gurnee or fox lake. If you want to keep it cheap and still have a moviegoing experience come here. The seats are squeaky and the floor is sticky, there are cobwebs in the corners and the carpets are worn, but you know what?...some day simulations of this experience are going to be offered to draw customers wanting such nostalgia. I go to Disney World or Great America and they have these "old-time" saloon or theater enclaves where "imagineers" have painstakingly placed faux patina and old-time looking whatnot around and it makes me sad. I'm torn here. I'd like everyone to know about this place, but don't want to tell anyone out of fear that it will become too crowded. Here's the scoop- The theatre is small, the prices are reasonable , the people who work there are friendly , the seats are all in good positions relative to the screen. The Antioch Theatre is a piece of history that we are lucky enough to still have! We must support businesses like this before they are just a memory to us and a story of the past for children who will never actualy get to see it! The staff are better than I have ever seen in any other theatre! The staff are amazingly friendly and respectful. The balcony is great and people shouldn't be afraid to sit there due to teenagers, the teens that go to the Antioch theatre are a great bunch of kids who have never been a problem. There is something about this place that brings out the best in people. You get the feeling that you have stepped back in time to a day when strangers could gather together and become friends in minutes. This is good clean family fun without the stress of today's world! Please support this wonderful business before we lose it! The prices are the best you will find anywhere and the owners keep the prices low because they care about more than just making a profit! It matters to them that they keep history alive and give families somewhere to go to appreciate the past. My family go there for every movie they show, even if we wern't planning on seeing each movie, we want to keep this business from closing! For those that don't know what that is, it is a wonderful opportunity for special needs families to be able to enjoy a movie with the lights up and sound down and be surrounded by other families that understand if your child isn't quiet throughout the entire movie. We bought tickets for a movie and went to the 2nd floor. 10 Minutes later after the movie started but wasn't playing the person working came in with a leaf blower. After asking him when the starts he said that is in the 2nd theater. We had no clue the was a 2nd theater. We ended up missing 15 minutes of the movie. read more

My two children and I went to the Antioch Theatre on Friday, July 1st to see Independence Day: Resurgence. The kids each got a Kiddie Combo and I got a small popcorn. It was all reasonably priced and we really enjoyed ourselves. Little did I know, I had accidentally left my wallet behind. I did not realize it until the day after when I went to grab something out of it. I called the theater and asked if a wallet had been found. A young man answered and told me that my wallet was indeed there. I went over there right away and picked it up. Everything in the wallet was completely as I had left it. It would have been so easy for him to say that he never saw my wallet. Because of his honesty, my kids and I were able to proceed with our 4th of July plans for the day. We would have been stuck in the house otherwise. We will definitely return here simply because of this young man. I just want to say "thank you" to the Antioch Theatre. read more
