Is it expensive? Yes. But you're paying for the experience, and in these pandemic times, social distancing in groups can be hard. Being outdoors and feeling semi-normal and back to pre-COVID was awesome. The team here is friendly, patient, and extremely strict on wearing masks when you're away from your vehicle, so we felt very safe all-around. We saw PeeWee's Big Adventure, and couldn't stay to watch BeetleJuice. If you stay for both features, the ticket prices provide more value. The concessions are a little pricey, but you can bring your own food and drinks. The bathrooms are pretty descent. Our only complaint was that we were eaten by mosquitos, and someone was smoking close by, which impacted us when the wind would shift. We'll be back with citronella and some Taco Bell!

Love the experience and if this was the only drive in theatre around then I'd probably rate them higher. But they are expensive, for the same service. They charge $12 per person for adults. So 4 of us paid $48 when we had just paid the flat rate of $30 for our car at the drive in in Hoffman Estates. The only thing this theatre has that Hoffman Estates doesn't is a concession stand with actual food, but it's overpriced. $7 for a bucket of popcorn, $4 for a bottle of water?? They have burgers, hot dogs, pizza, nachos, etc. whereas Hoffman Estates has a cart that comes around with candy and snacks only. But you can bring outside food into either, so why would we pay more to come here? We did see a double feature which added to the value, but I doubt that we'll be back.

Five stars for the McHenry Outdoor Theatre - it's so great to see a drive in theatre as so many in the area have unfortunately closed. The ticket prices are pretty reasonable and comparable to the actual movie theatre ($12 a person) but that includes 2 movies - they play a variety of a new one first and sometimes another new one or an old one - I saw A Quiet Place 2 and Friday the 13th (original) in the same night. Concessions can be a little pricey but that's where they make their money - still less than an actual movie theatre concession prices. It's a great experience - help keep this drive in alive for generations to come!

Good old Happy Days experiences for me and my kids. I met the owner 5 years ago as a complete stranger. I was not well but he gave me an ornament of Mickey Mouse with a camera and a movie rheel. It's on our tree today and I really appreciate it. Thanks for your thoughtful touch and your kindness as it has been paid forward in full (over and over). Happy Holidays Scott!

I've been here a few times and each time has been amazing. Even though the theater is a bit far from my house, it's a great experience. They've really kept the drive in old fashioned vibe alive. There's a $12 admission fee for adults and cheaper for any one else. You're welcome to bring your own radio or they have some for sale ($5). You can also just use your car and if your battery dies they'll help you! They have plenty of snacks for sale and lots of places to use the bathroom. Each week their movies change. There's a more kid friendly movie that starts around sunset and then another movie probably around 10 or 11. Overall, I'll totally come again and I recommend this theater to everyone.

As seen from inside my car before another screen obscuring (raised hatch) SUV arrived. Taken 7/28/2012.

We went on their website and saw a decent variety of shows so we made our selection and made the reservation, which is required. It's an hour from our house and it's worth the trip. We arrived an hour and a half before our movie started as they recommend, which was perfect. The lot is big and clean and they are currently accepting less cars due to the pandemic. They have a guy who comes around with a concession cart that has basic snacks and drinks, but we brought our own. (I recommend this.) There are port o potties on both sides and right now everyone has to wear masks when you're away from your car. We packed blankets and pillows too and my daughter and her friend sat in the back of our truck, while we also brought lawn chairs and set those up too. It was a perfect night and a lot of fun! Can't wait to go again.

It was pretty annoying to have your 2hr movie go from starting at 10:30pm to 11am. We all had sound problems at the start of the movie, and had to turn radio station on and off to get it synced with movie. The only thing that saved this from being a one star review was that the port-a-pottys were ridiculously clean; a staff member went in after each person and sprayed everything down--most sanitized toilet I've used since Covid.

This gravel field is at the end of this industrial street with a large building in front of the screen that has lights on. The are low budget scones indicating where to park. First two rows are reserved and last had a private party. The color contrast is so dull and just sad. The movie started late due to technical difficulties and half into the movie, the audio stopped and after 10 minutes, they just skipped to another scene. Im absolutely speechless that they would charge over $40 for this very low quality movie expierance. I will most definitely not be going back.

You can have as many people in the car as there are seatbelts but there were just two of us. Their snack bar is now just candy and a few drinks, including beer. So if you wanted hot dogs or anything like that, you won't get it here. However, they let you bring outside food and drink--probably why they charge more. We made a huge batch of homemade butter popcorn, brought our own waters, candy, and jerky. The car next to us had brought in pizza and Chipotle, which I'd do next time. There are restrooms on the site and they were very clean and plenty of stalls (at least for women). The one thing I did NOT like aside from the price is that you have to use a radio to listen to the movie. I have a 2019 Subaru and my car battery almost died after leaving it on without the engine running for both movies. A couple people had cars that needed a jump. So either bring a handheld radio or bring jumper cables. We would come back again because we like older movies but it would be nice if they had newer movie options too. It's a cute date night if you like old school things.
