There are couple of things to know about this guy before try it out: 1. There's no such thing as a line at the cart. If you sit back and wait for him to notice you, you'll be waiting a long time. The majority of the guys who eat here are Hispanic, and they're regulars, so they pretty much shout out their orders as they arrive. You don't have to do that, but you do need to make certain he knows you're there because he's really freakin' busy at lunch time. If you speak Spanish, it will help, but it isn't a necessity. The tacos are really, really good. They don't have the grilled green onion I like to see, but they're still good. The carnitas tacos are especially good.. He's got more going on there than the tacos. Try the stews! I love the pigs feet in salsa verde, and he has it pretty often. It's really great. The tortas are ok, but the gorditas are better. Gorditas de chicharron are ace. (update 3/01/13) You really ought to check out the daily specials he's got too. He makes a stew of pigs' feet in a green sauce that's the bomb. I tried the chiles rellenos today, and they were chock full of melted Oaxaca cheese bathed in a red enchilada sauce. The batter was a little worse for wear, but they still tasted great. Pricing seems a little flexible at times. You might get charged a little more than he charges the Hispanics. It's kind of the same rule that the hot dog vendors use. They're very likely hurting more for cash than you are, and that extra dollar can mean a lot to them. read more

I've never been to Mexico but after trying their taco de carnitas, I feel like I got a taste of Mexico. I've tried the chicken n beef taco but my fave is the carnitas. I got two of them and it was very filling. $6 meal around this area is def the most bang (bang) for your buck. read more

I rarely write reviews, but after randomly eating lunch here today... WOW WOW WOW. Being that I am from California, I would say that my Mexican food standards are very high. I would also say that the overall quality of Mexican food in the city is very low (don't get mad, we have pizza and bagels here). With that being said, I just had a plate of the most amazing Carnitas tacos that I've ever had in NYC. At $3 a pop, these are tacos you dream for. For awhile there, I was worried. After years of stuffing my face at the Antojito Mexicano cart along 28th & 6th, it just suddenly disappeared. I've lost count on the number of times I came to this end looking for it, only it was nowhere to be found. A few years go by and I spot the cart in all of it's glory perched up in the same corner, with Luis doing what he does best: cooking and making magic with Mexican food. It's almost as it never left. I soon learned the cart decided to make it's return after a couple of years of serving folks along Broadway just down the road. The principal reason for coming back? Apparently there's less Halal carts along this part of 6th Ave, where as they're scattered across Broadway - less competition, means more customers. Since the cart doesn't stay late, lunch is the only time to really enjoy the food. Luis still throws together some real quality Mexican street side fare like they do in Queens, albeit for a tad more due to it's Manhattan surroundings. Favorites like the quesadilla de papa (potato quesadilla), chorizo torta (spicy Mexican sausage sandwich), carnitas platter, and on occasion, steamed tamales are all the rage when it comes this cart. There are a multitude of things he can make for folks, all one needs to do is ask. The menu on the front of the cart isn't exactly legible, a worn piece of cardboard with a muffed penmanship that would rival an elementary kid's chicken scratch doesn't exactly make for easy reading. He accommodates with custom made specials often, which are always well made and quite tasty. In a city where Mexican food is often a hot topic and debated endlessly for it's good (and more often bad) eateries, this cart is one of the sure things few Mexican lovers can hardly afford to pass up. read more

Delicious! Had the beef tacos. Two for $5 is an amazing deal and they are very decently sized. Two will fill you up no problem. These are not your puny little tacos that are so small you will need at least three. Also, he put plenty of green sauce, white sauce, and cotija cheese on them which gave them a nice kick. Only downside was that two regulars who speak Spanish cut in front of me by speaking Spanish and ordering ahead of me. This is the only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars. Came here at 2pm on a Monday and got my tacos by 2:12 even with the people who cut me though. But it would be nice if people were a bit more considerate. I was walking uptown from doing some shopping on the LES and I was craving tacos. It seem like every place is a crappy chain or bad rendition of American/Mexican food from what used to be a bad Chinese food place. I wanted some authentic messy tacos so I turned to Yelp and decided to check out Antojito. I had the "address" in my head, knew I was in the right area but couldn't find the store front for the life of me. After walking by the cart 4-5 times I finally stumbled on it and ordered 3 tacos. I got a carnitas and 2 pastor tacos and walked them to the nearest park because I knew I would have to sit down to eat these awesome tacos. They really were awesome. Two corn tortillas, stuffed the brim with meat, pico, and sauces. I think I paid about $7 for the 3 tacos and they were well worth it. I can't wait to find time to go back down to visit this place. I will be trying other meat offers they have in other delivery forms such as the gordita! I will definitely be bringing friends who enjoy authentic Mexican. read more

I am kind of surprise it has 4 1/2 star, here is why... i wanted to eat some mexican food for lunch so I search here on yelp and read the reviews, I must say that even though I did speak spanish and there was a line some people will SKIP the line, they either dont see the line or ignore the fact that people are waiting on line, they just go ahead and order so that's a problem, whether you speak spanish or not it doesn't matter people will skip you, for some reason they are not aware of the line. The food, I order the platter. Chicken platter and its just so so I didn't find it great. Its just ok, maybe I should have order tacos instead of the platter. While eating I bite two chicken bones already. Yes BONES. For $6 a platter I guess you pay for what you get, I might plan to go back for the tacos just to try them but the platter is definately a no no for me. read more

Came here for lunch on a Friday. Line was a little long but not like, Sweetgreen long. I asked for just rice and beans, and the guy offered to put some lettuce, hot sauce, and cheese on it. Senior just became my new friend in the neighborhood. Some of the best tacos you can get in the midtown from only $5 for 2. Generous portion. Well made. If you visit him on a low time around 3 to 4 PM, he will make you some really good tacos. Just ask whatever you want and take your time. When I walk by during his rush hour, you won't experience much attention beside just a normal business transaction. I have yet to try everything on the menu but one day. Food is good. I got the Plato de Cecina which is $7 but I added some choriz(sausage) and it came out to $9. They are nice and even give you 4 extra grilled tortillas on the side. Get the white cream sauce or red hot sauce on top. read more

I work nearby and stopped by today because a colleague recommended it. Glad I took his advice!! I had 3 chicken tacos and they were great. I've never been to mexico so I can't say how truly authentic they were, but to me they were as authentic Mexican as I've had in NYC. The chicken, sauces, garnishes and tortillas were all great. Pretty much the best mexican food I've had in NYC. I normally opt for pork but today I got a chicken platter (rice, beans, chicken, hot sauce, salsa, lettuce, cheese) for six bucks and it was about the best chicken platter I've ever had. Some of the best street tacos I've ever had. Not the quickest and not the flashiest, but great tacos and good prices. The al pastor is delicious. Some of the best mexican good period. I opt for the $6 platter and just ask for a mix of meats. You get rice, beans, veggies, a ton of meat and 4 tortillas on the side to make your own tacos all for 6 dollars. I try to go either on the earlier side (11:30) or after 1 pm to avoid the lines. Some of the mexican works just shout in their orders so it may take awhile to get your food during peak hours, definitely worth it though! read more

Not a bad deal. $5 for 2 tacos. the tacos are well filled iwth meat. the quality of meat was OK. it was deep fried in oil. The toppings were dried cheese (powder) and hot sauce and some sort of white sauce. onions and lettuce. They were tasty if in a bind but wouldnt go out of my way for this. read more

Sure, it takes some chutzpah to sidle up to the man on the right and establish eye contact as you order. And sure, there are times when you tell him one meat, he'll insist on you getting another. But this place totally SLAYS when it comes to greasy piles of meat covered in a mélange of sliced radishes, lettuce, and grated queso. Oh! and they understand your English just fine. read more
